mak-flies, I've a question. I notice a lot of midge/buzzer patterns such as this one exclude breathing gills. Is it because these are larva patterns or is just because they're unnecessary for pupa imitations? Would love your insights.
+Charles Loftis Sorry for the late reply,. The breathing filaments begin in the larva stage but are very very small. As they grow into the pupa the filaments are much bigger and clearly visible. I guess it depends on how physiologically accurate you want your representation to be. Personally, I just want to catch fish lol. Regards, Mak.
I think I've mastered tying this pattern, can never get the super smooth finish with my resin though! The finish also ends up making the colours look a bit more dull. Hopefully will still work, but annoying! Thanks for the video
Hi Johnty63, I actually don't Bleach them because they become really stiff & break quickly, the best way is to wet them in Mouth & leave them for a 30 second & then strip them with Thumb & Finger Nail :))
Happy to see you back. You tie lots of buzzers are you primarily a still water fisherman? I am going to have to be, I cannot stand in the river. I've got very bad legs due to back problems. So I fish from my boat. Thinking about getting a float tube, for calmer days. All the best to you and thanks for sharing. Sean
+Sean Mooney I am the same with chronic back pain. I broke a lower vertebrae playing rugby and seriously damaged my disks too. I stick to the boats aswell mate , it is much less painful than standing all day ! Tight lines bud . Could you let me know how the float tube goes please ?
Jon Morgan-Parker Sure will, I haven't bought one yet so it won't be soon but I will. The last time I used one it was great because there is no pressure on the back at all no weight since you are in the water. I hope you do well. They are not expensive if you are not heavy. I am heavy so I have to get the largest one. All the best, Sean
excellent, may I ask which white spanflex you are using ? it seems to hold the colour even when stretched, Some white spanflex is almost translucent when stretched.
You are wonderfull!! What varnish is that?! Is this strong? I have the UV Clear Fly Finish Thin Loon but this broke easy and become ugly soon. Sorry for my english :)
Hi, Can you tell me if there is a conversion chart for English to American hook sizes. What you describe as a size 10 hook seems small to me. Thank you.
+Mario Atencio I can't really help you on this, The best idea would be to go to any Angling shop , they will help you, I know in America they use different numbers Thanks
