    I feel like Ja Yeon's character was developed as well. The singular mention of her terminal illness was to indicate that she is a person who has nothing to lose and ultimately should be the one who is the most feared. However I think the lack of emphasis on her health condition was done so we could disregard her and her capabilities, just like the Chief Ma did which led to the extermination of his group. I really enjoyed this movie and thank you for your review!

    This might be one of my favorite foreign movies of all time i thought they were gonna end the movie on some bs but they completely satisfied need of revenge in the last 10 minutes honestly might be a 10/10 for me

      Same. Try to watch The Raid Redemption too. It's action packed with i think is a great fighting choreography.

    Great review. The ending was definitely cathartic haha. I found Director Ma / Sang Gil pretty interesting when I looked at his actions and philosophy. The film of course opens with the thinly veiled misdirections, making him out to be the big baddie, but he's kind of the ultimate product of his element : a focused, deadly gangster. He was right from his perspective to seek vengeance for the unwarranted assassination attempt on his boss's life, but he did intend to keep his word, and was basically completely honest the entire time. He seemed to exist in his own kind of moral universe where he wasn't afraid to do terrible things to other gangsters if that was what was apparently the correct course of action, but not the kind of guy to revel in senseless violence or attacking innocents. A stark contrast to Yang, who we came to understand Ma's complete contempt and disgust for. I thought it interesting that both Director Ma at the cafe and Jae Yeon on the beach met death with a smile.
    If anyone who enjoyed this film wants another Korean great, 'The Man From Nowhere' is something of a masterpiece, with similar tone and not a small amount of violence, including perhaps the best knife fight in film history, again with an interesting antagonist that is honorable in his own way.

      I agree by the end i found director ma very interesting to the point i didn’t even want him to die as you begin to understand why he’s doing it. and yang just completely disgusted me due to the fact he was so willing to do everything without a second thought that would be stabbing tae goo and his gang in their back

      I also like the fact that Ma himself was disgusted by Yang. They are bothe gangsters but Ma held himself and principles at high regard. Yet Yang does everything that's so low without blinking. Ma smiled before the bullet hit him and Yang said 'please'. That was more than enough for me. Not apologizing...just begging.

      I was actually sad when Ma died. He only paid back what was done by Yang. Nothing personal. Even though he carried out the order to kill Tae Gu, he kept his promises.

    Its a very slow-burn and than boom! Love the ending scene! I think the director is paying homage to the legend from Hong Kong....Director John Woo! I am mesmerized by this movie!

    I love it a lot! The Director also direct the Witch Part 1, good action too.
    Watch Gangs of London too.

    The title is "Night in Paradise" to show the contrast of the dark plot set in Jeju island, which is considered as a paradise for it's beautiful & breathtaking scenery, maybe the reason why they had a blue overlay almost all throughout, to visually foreshadow the "night" that awaits the characters.

    The scene with Tae-goo where he fended off the men in the car was my favorite scene, the desperation and ruthlessness was absolutely amazing

    you spoiled the terminally ill part

    • @BlaineAuld
      @BlaineAuld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really, Wikipedia has it in the synopsis and a lot of reviews mention it too. Plus the illness is brought up pretty early in the movie itself
