My biggest problem is the lack of writers credited in app. I shouldn't have to search the game credits on Moby games or in the actual game to find who wrote the song I'm listening to in app. It makes it harder to find music I might not have been interested in, and it's just not cool.
That’s the same thing I said on NintendoLife’s video-it’s so odd. As someone who obsesses over composer credits, it sucks that it’s absent in the app; every composer _deserves_ to be credited for their amazing work. Also, as much as I like Splatoon crediting the in-universe bands, I’d love a setting or toggle to show either the band or the real-life composer, or both. By the way, I recommend VGMdb when it comes to credits for official soundtrack releases. They have screenshots of the physical soundtrack CDs, track lists in English and Japanese (if applicable), and even individual performers, be it lead singers or instrumentalists. If _they_ don’t list the credits, the physical release most likely doesn’t credit a composer per track (like _Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes_ or _Animal Crossing New Leaf,_ for instance). MobyGames is great for everything else, though.
Like Disney, they hide the developers and artists behind the projects they publish and steal all the credit to the company itself. Gotta preservr that ~Nintendo Magic~
That’s your _biggest_ problem? I don’t disregard it as a problem but there’s plenty of other issues with this from a user perspective that are going overlooked.
Lack of composer credits is a pretty big mark against the app. I’d like to think that it’s just an oversight and coming soon but it follows a pattern Nintendo’s been on lately of omitting credits on their legacy library whenever they can.
It is absolutely not an oversight lol they don't even want you to know if they got a support studio for help on a first-party game these days and almost got away with not even crediting any of the original Retro staff on Metroid Prime Remastered. It's like taking all the credit for the group dissertation that everyone else carried

The person who was in charge of taking screenshots for FE7 took Serra to endgame which I find based
I've been constantly wondering how the smash ultimate soundtrack on this would work ever since they released this thing, they'd likely omit all "original" tracks that were ripped direct from other games cuz many are redundant since they'd also be in their own game's osts, but that also removes many 3rd party tracks that would never come to the music app in the first place? Also 3rd parties in general, would they really manage to license them for use in their own music app, or would they end up also oddly omitted? Honestly I'm betting they're going to skip smash soundtracks in this app altogether to avoid these problems, which is unfortunate cuz there's so many good smash-original tracks, as well as fully Nintendo-themed remixes that deserve to be included!!
For having a "small" library as expected, i think it's pretty great, if small means +200 songs. It's worth for being just an "add-on" for the NSO membership. Also, i have no doubts Nintendo keeps testing the waters for the next console, this, the online thing that happened a few days ago. I wouldn't be surprised if this service makes into the new console
One strange thing that I noticed was that the Fire Temple theme from OoT is just a short loop of the beginning of the track. Maybe it’s because of the original vocal sample, but they could have just used the version from later releases instead.
I hope Nintendo commits to this music app and adds content to it on a regular basis instead of simply dripfeeding a soundtrack now and then like they do with classic games on NSO.
The only things I dislike is that there’s not much detail on the music. It should probably have the credits for the people who played and composed it, where it plays, what game it’s from, and probably a better image for the song instead of a screenshot.
I like to think that nintendo is just procrastinating at this point and is releasing all of these random things because they don't want to get the switch 2 ready
They're just buying all the time they can, so they can keep working on the next console, hence this, Xenoblade Chronicles X, the remasters that keep coming in the next year. Personally i'm okay with that, if we're getting good things. IMO, this, somehow, is just a confirmation that the next console will definitely be releasing in late 2025 or in the Q1 2026

Gotta give the award of best Wii Channel music to Doodle from the Photo channel. That thing is a bop and when I saw it in the app I almost fainted, it's such an obscure song and to see any mention of it by Nintendo is magical. Really hoping we get all the Streetpass music soon.
I'm definitely happy about this for sure! But like many others are saying they must credit the composers, a lot of Nintendo's music is just so catchy and memorable and I really wish they would do more to honor the people behind it all. Not only should they credit them but some commemorative video interviewing the composers about how the music came about would also be fantastic!
Probably because they want privacy...In Japan it is pretty common that they recognize the good job the composers have made up but they also want to respect their privacy...and even more because sometimes there are fans that also are crazy (Just not extreme as The Idol Industry where the fans sometimes can be psychopaths)
This is the most Nintendo thing to do lol release a music app specifically for them. I wish they'd be better about credits but its a cool idea at least. People saying to put it YT or Spotify assume everyone has the non ad tier, this is just another bonus perk for NSO. I have a ton of Nintendo OSTs but I can see myself using this out of convenience.
Pretty conflicted here. It’s a cool idea and a huge step for them… BUT the idea of them drip feeding us tracks SUUUUUCKS. I’m also scared they’re gonna go after more game music channels here on YT now… I’m “backing up” some of my current playlists just in case (perfectly legal I assure you😉). Also as a smaller complaint: they don’t list the composers. That sucks
I've seen a few complaints, yet even with 23 albums featuring roughly a thousand songs is not an easy task. Keep in mind that tracking through even the older OST and especially placing all of these songs in is no simple task. Like adding released music to our daily listening playlists, this process takes plenty of time. It's better than nothing and especially better late than never. As far as composers and writers goes, we can just view the credits of certain video games. The fact that they are doing this, even with no credited sources (potentially yet), is an homage of appreciation towards their musical contributors; themselves; and us, their fans.
I’m hoping we get all the Xenoblade Chronicles games on this app, since those OSTs are straight up fire. Plus it could also help boost even more interest in a niche series like Xenoblade. But also more Pokémon down the line is a no brainer. If gen 4 and 5 get added on this app, it is so over.
Frequency matters less than volume to me. I’m ok with updates once a month if they drop as many as they did at launch if not more. With the games available on NSO and things like how Fire Emblem GBA is labeled and both versions of the original Metroid, I can see this app being very strong very quickly.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl's soundtrack would be such an incredible addition. F-Zero GX might be the most underrated soundtrack in the history of Nintendo. But honestly, give me all the soundtracks, and let's expand to include Sega, Atari, Arcade games, etc.
i know we asked for them to just release/post songs themselves to make strikes be less greedy but uh. they won't do what we actually ask for with this. so its crap.
Yeah, there are a lot of weird things missing, and I hope they resolve that soon. As far as songs relating to dlcs go, I think those were more specifically excluded because they'll be in their own albums. For example, they've already shown the Champions' Ballad has its own specific album separate from BotW.
I said a while ago as I popped in Phendana Drifts for a sec “I wonder if Ash immediately downloaded this” and in I go on TH-cam to see an 18 minute video fresh off the oven
I bet that Nintendo will make a Nintendo video streaming service when they have a large enough amount of movies and shows to launch it. I would love Nintendo to make more small niche productions like a fire emblem anime or pikmin or splatoon anime, i think if Nintendo bought an animation and video studios for that they could do something cool there.
Some music require to get some rights like the music with lyrics sometimes so that might be the reason why some titles wouldn't be there. The same problem usually happens with Final Fantasy music where even Square Enix themselves struggle to get the rights for their songs.
For having just launched, the only real complaint is lack of crediting. Sure for the audience it doesnt matter a ton, but come on lets not pull a metroid dread, credit the damn people that made these legacy soumdtracks. The real question is how frequently we can expect updates, and more importantly, WHEN IS XENOBLADE COMING NINTENDO I NEED ULTIMATE BRINGER OF CHAOS AND MOEBIUS BATTLE THEME NOWWWWWW
I have doubt they will do it, but it would be awesome if they added the Soundtrack to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the game 20th anniversary on the 15th of November. Also seem with the exception of Wii Channels , Tomodachi Collection and Nintendogs, all the released sountrack are from game playable on Switch. So this make me wonder if The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker being in the upcoming music, is a subtle hint that the game we also coming to Switch next year.
Isn’t this just adding value to an already great value subscription? I an’t buying a Spotify premium account or TH-cam premium account. I already got Nintendo Online and it’s just more bang for the buck.
I suspect Nintendo plans to give the songs out in batches, and I suspect the batch size may vary. And really, Nintendo doing things atypically is kind of typical of Nintendo, which kinda does make sense since they started as a toy company (compared to more "typical" devs that started with electronics).
The reason it is tied to Nintendo Switch Online is so you continue to have reasons to keep NSO. You could stop playing Switch for months on end, but if you like this app and want to keep the music, maybe you're more compelled to keep paying for the NSO service.
This is already a fantastic release, but this will become incredible if/when they add the Smash Bros games! Interesting that both Nintendo and Apple have for some reason decided to trickle out their announcements over the course of the same week.
Anyways, hopefully they'll give us Smash Ultimate's colossal OST...also wondering if they'll do 3rd party games, would love to have some Monster Hunter on there.
This is stupid, Nintendo already has a youtube channel, just upload the songs there, making it a phone app is very limiting and won't allow people to play these tracks on a PC or a TV which is probably what they were aiming for in the first place.
You all sure are whiney. It's honestly kinda neat. Sure, the artist credit thing is a little weird, but the other things? Sounds like you guys are just a bit picky.
@@goldenninja9053 Nope, screw all of that. The artist credit is not just "kinda weird". Wish this wasn't linked to the user having Nintendo Online (active).. I used to pay for it but then decided I didn't need that service.. now I feel like they're gate-keeping a neat concept :/
As far as I can tell it's because some songs are literally just jingles that last less than 5 seconds. In my experience, you can extend all "real" songs
@@LetsPlayNintendoITA2023 It's possible that they are songs that were composed to not have a loop, which, knowing Ocarina, there are a lot of candidates there. Like the title theme, or the ocarina ballads
As far as I know from everything they do, Nintendo hates competition, so if this new app of theirs becomes popular enough, it can mean the end of Nintendo tracks on Spotify or on TH-cam and everywhere else, because they will try to force everyone to comply to the new standard that they decided, and the fastest way for that to happen is to request take downs of the competition, especially when access to it is free like how Spotify and all the others work, while to use Nintendo's you would need the NSO subscription... So I hope that this worst case scenario does not happen, because Nintendo's track record of video take downs because of silly stuff on TH-cam and stuff, is pretty much the reason why there aren't that many channels discussing Nintendo stuff, as for whatever reason Nintendo might flag you one day for whatever reason they decide...
You can't win really can you people whinge and moan about not bring able to listen to the music, when you give them what they want they still complain.
Honestly I think it’s better this way. Spotify and TH-cam require there specific premium for them to actually be usable. While Nintendo has a premium it’s pretty much a necessity for any switch owners and provided a lot more for the cost. And I like being able to easily find all the music from one game at once.
Makes sense. If I was pretty much selling music and someone illegally took that music and published it for everyone then I’d want to do something about it.
Dogwater. The bare minimum They had time to put in Wii menu music and Nintendogs, but Zelda only got two games, Dr. Mario over either Super Mario Land game for Game Boy and a single game for GameCube and GBA each. You can literally rip the Smash OST to your PC, enable local files on Spotify and get like 4x the music of Nintendo's official alternative to not just putting their music on other streamers. So disappointing
It’s literally just a free bonus. And are you really saying “I can pirate this music so why don’t they have it??” And Nintendogs and the Wii Channel themes are amazing.
@@nathanpfirman625 The point isn't that I can pirate. The point is that if you're going to make an official alternative to discourage pirating, make it better than what I can get by pirating. Especially if it's supposed to be a perk for an ecosystem I'm dedicating myself towards as a customer because this isn't free, it's a perk of already paying for NSO, the perk I'm paying for should in fact be better if I'm paying for it at all.

Aren't there some kind of legal complications with the Xenoblade 2 and 3 tracks? Smash lists the copyright for those tracks as belonging to "ACE" (The music duo), Kenji Hirumatsu, or other parties not related to Nintendo.

Oh...I thought there would be more than that...also...only Star Allies? No Forgotten Land? WTF? lol...
This selection is hot ass.
That being said, Star Allies OST is better imo
Smash bros credits their composers (mostly)
Gang gang
I need Wii sports and resort, Mario 3d World, Mario Wonder, and Mario kart Wii and I will be happy.
Its awful because they will copyright strike people now
they need to have it compatible for ipads because you can get the app on it but it just looks off
Wish this wasn't linked to the user having Nintendo Online (active).. I used to pay for it but then decided I didn't need that service.. now I feel like they're gate-keeping a neat concept :/
why can't we extend ALL music :/
As far as I can tell it's because some songs are literally just jingles that last less than 5 seconds. In my experience, you can extend all "real" songs
@buivars there are full songs in ocarina not extendable
This is just goofy bruh 😂 Competition? Fans uploading copyrighted music to streaming platforms isn't competition.
It would be awesome if they added Xenoblade games.
5:17 Metroid Prime is missing quite a bit of music.
They have penny's battle theme 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 🎉
The only good song from Pokemon SV
NSO is a great value for some people of course Nintendo way ...😂.
Why would I use this app when TH-cam is the far better platform and is free?
Mii Channel! And would like all the Xenoblade music. And Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Random but I can’t find the dragon theme from BOTW, is it just me?
They dodged Splatoon 2 and Octo Expansion's ost which is atrocious!
Well Splatoon 2’s OST are coming through an update, as well as Wii Sports, Mario 64 and Wind Waker
$20 for free TH-cam music
You can't win really can you people whinge and moan about not bring able to listen to the music, when you give them what they want they still complain.
I’m so happy
So many osts will disappear from yt because of this.
Feels like a really stupid idea to me. Why can't they just officially upload their tracks onto TH-cam and Spotify like every other game company does?
Why would they do that when they can use it to boost the value of their already existing online service?
Have you ever heard of capitalism sir?
Why should youtube or spotify profit off Nintendo's music catalogue?
Honestly I think it’s better this way. Spotify and TH-cam require there specific premium for them to actually be usable. While Nintendo has a premium it’s pretty much a necessity for any switch owners and provided a lot more for the cost. And I like being able to easily find all the music from one game at once.
@NumberOne1One1 there's tons of ads on Spotify and TH-cam
Why isn't it on the Switch? Only on phones D:
I’d love to have some of the Xenoblade series music on the app. Sadly not having much hope for pokemon to make an appearance on it.
Scarlet and Violet are already there
It isn’t on the App Store last time I checked yet
It is. It’s just not showing up because it’s a new release. Check the Nintendo Account.
@ just popped up thanks
Should be free
I wonder if they will add 3rd party titles if we got pokemon we might get games that were on nso ie sonic
The lack of composer credits already makes this garbage.
You know what this means?
They'll heavily go after video game music videos.
Makes sense. If I was pretty much selling music and someone illegally took that music and published it for everyone then I’d want to do something about it.
They've been doing that for years already. Nothing new. People just keep reuploading so it doesn't really matter. Just inconvenient.
Dogwater. The bare minimum
They had time to put in Wii menu music and Nintendogs, but Zelda only got two games, Dr.
And are you really saying “I can pirate this music so why don’t they have it??”
And Nintendogs and the Wii Channel themes are amazing.
@@nathanpfirman625that is what they're saying, yes
Selection sucks. No Xenoblade music. Music from only one Fire Emblem game. Only one Pokemon game for music. I hate this dripfeed method.
Meanwhile youtube is free and has everything I want and stuff like unofficial remixes and fanmusic
There's literally no reason to use this
My favorite songs are called: there is no switch 2, stop asking for it, the rumors are bullshit, and Nintendo's next console is still another two years away.
They literally already told investors it's being announced before apr 2025. People are just dumb and took that as 2024.
I can listen to these soundtracks through TH-cam music, I can't see using a separate app for something like this
Dude, this clearly means they're taking all those music channels down.
Until they copyright strike all of those videos like how they nuked Giivasunner
@@rammantakhsh9247 I thought that after I said it, I guess that would be the next step
Not legally. By that logic I shouldn’t get a job cause I could just break into a bank.
@@nathanpfirman625playing a Nintendo song through TH-cam is not stealing lmao
Cool but at the same time, meh. Limited currently and Nintendo being Nintendo, slow additions to it. Also RIP to anyone who's uploaded OSTs to Nintendo games on TH-cam.
No xenoblade and no three houses music or pokemon :(
There is Pokemon and they said there will be more coming in the future but yea there’s not much on release day pretty disappointing but they have the Zelda breath of the wild minigame music and I’ve just been listening to that on loop 😂
Aren't there some kind of legal complications with the Xenoblade 2 and 3 tracks?
Smash lists the copyright for those tracks as belonging to "ACE" (The music duo), Kenji Hirumatsu, or other parties not related to Nintendo.
@@agedstringwell the OSTs are owned by Nintendo, but the albums are usually owned by Dog Ear Records in terms of distribution. But no, the actual music is owned by Nintendo and Monolith Soft.
