The game existed on steam for years before it was released a few months ago. Many people you see on these tournaments actually helped with building the in game ship designs, so they know what they are doing.

Hi Saris, this was a great watch with very informative commentary. Hope to catch a tournament stream live at some point.
If you're concerned about people getting salty over counterpicking (or it becomes a problem at some point), I'd recommend using a formalised pick/ban system. With 3 loadouts each this is quite easy to make work.
Things which would need to be set up:
    - Players must specify beforehand what their 3 loadouts are, and this should be public knowledge, including the archetype of the ship(s) as well as their names/images and how many of each ship type used in each particular loadout. (e.g. posted on a discord channel an hour before the tournament begins)
    - In the lobby for each match, the host should use a website/bot to randomly select a player to begin the selection process; let this be "Player A", and the other player "Player B".
For the first match, loadout selection happens in 3 steps:
    - Step 1. Player A bans one of Player B's loadouts.
    - Step 2. Player B picks one of their 2 remaining loadouts, then bans one of Player A's loadouts.
    - Step 3. Player A picks one of their 2 remaining loadouts.
In subsequent matches (if playing with best-of-N), the order is reversed; so in a best-of-5, Player A would have the first ban in rounds 1, 3, and 5, and Player B would have it in rounds 2 and 4.

Quick links to each individual match set. Spoilers below, be mindful extending this post:
    0:00 - Stream Starts
    19:25 - AlexD vs Forder
    32:37 - Gnusmas vs Pine
    51:11 - Kommandant vs Pyraeus
    1:27:15 - Pyraeus vs Slowking
    1:50:55 - Spacecat vs Zachary/Destroyer
    2:05:30 - Greedisr vs Zerual
    2:20:07 - Enoshade vs Sylne4r
    2:49:04 - Jun(0) vs Rose
    3:09:32 - Salephz vs Zerual
    3:18:35 - Enoshade vs Rose
    3:26:51 - Forder vs Gnusmas
    3:51:16 - Slowking vs Zachary
    4:04:32 - Rose vs Salephz
    4:28:55 - Forder vs Slowking
    4:46:06 - Rose vs Slowking
Neat notes I found while editing:
    - An entire two hours of the stream was spent in menus (💀)
    - 8 of the 15 sets went to their max match amount
    - Enoshade's Spinner vs Sylnear's Armor diagonal was the longest match at 16 minutes
    - Enoshade's Rail traps vs Sylnear's Missile barge was the shortest match at 1 minute
    - Despite this Enoshade's set vs Sylnear was the longest at 19 minutes
-- Rose vs Slowking's best of 5 resulted in 24 minutes, but was obviously a best of 5
    - Enoshade (breaking all the records) lost to Rose in a blistering 4 minute set
By my decree Enoshade gets the honorary victory

Shortest match of the game: Won by Enoshade.

    • @NickAndriadze
      @NickAndriadze ปีที่แล้ว +1

Forder's Oneshot is not designed to regenerate. Instead of spending money on energy equipment for recharge, it goes for as many railguns and accelerators as humanely possible and begs that the enemy won't be strong enough to survive its devastating fan four times, which surprisingly works, as the railgun count on the ship is truly unfathomable for any other 1.5 mil design.

I personally don't like the rail meta, it takes a lot off the table. A rule determining that players can only have a specific main weapon system on one single ship and can only use that ship once vs the same opponent would change things a bit in a positive way, i think. A ban system would also be interesting, where players can ban one weapon system for the opponent and only one time (so they can't ban rails in 3 matches). Or be allowed to know the opponent's ships and ban a different ship per match.
It'd a bit heavy on the rules, but we would see a lot more variety :)

Why on earth do you allow counterpicking? Obvious huge advantage to be the guy that goes ahead and counterpicks after they see the opponent ship. Don't rely on social reluctance to decide matches. It would be trivial to have people both blind pick, or have a bans and picks option.

    • @SarisWinterwisp

This was a test to see if bans and such could be supported, as it previously hadn't been tried before. It will be used in the future.

    • @enoshade
      @enoshade ปีที่แล้ว +3

that's true, but it will depend on the ship. Some of the ships you see in the tournament, the ones which have no armour, are already at the maximum feasible speed; spinning fast is easier than moving rapidly in a circle, so a good spinner could spin faster than the fastest ship could orbit it. If it is out-orbited, it could also slow down the spid instead and have the same relative effect. The only real way to keep a spinner from shooting you is ram-locking it, which is why a lot of spinners have smooth shells, to keep hooks off them.

Just some feedback for the casters/hosts/commentators,
I may be the minority here but it was exceptionally annoying hearing one of the commentators actively "Correct" a majority of what was said by the other.. Even in situations where the "Misinformation" isn't detrimental to the viewer really in any significant way.. For example, @1:42:00 when they are talking about the speed of the ship and the one commentator is like "You'd be surprised" and then proceeds to press the topic. Any good casters/commentators dont do this. They either feed off eachothers energy/topics or they move on to a new topic of discussion unless, of course, its a serious error.
It's very offputting as a viewer to hear "Well AcKTUALLY" as many times as I heard it in the couples hours I watched of this tournament. My advice is either find a commentator/caster that knows what they are talking about if you feel they are not being as accurate as you want for the audience or try to just steer the topics in a different direction. Even just being more subtle about the disagreement can go a long way. In my example above, if he had just started telling a small story about a time where 20 mph was seemingly effective or faster than expected it would shed light on his point of view, give the viewer something to think about and impart the knowledge of the speed without actively contradicting/disagreeing with your cohost. Especially when your disagreement/contradiction is entirely in response to an obvious joke that was being made. Your cohost continuously loses credibility throughout the entire tournament everytime I hear you correct him. As someone who does not know a ton about the game just yet, It makes me start to question if the cohost is a reliable source of input whenever he speaks.
That all being said, I enjoyed the fights and they are very creative ships. I just think if you are going to have more tournaments in the future, there needs to be more energy and more synergy between the casters. Get your audience excited. Especially in a game that is this slow. I strongly recommend watching the casters for starcraft 2. Primarily in the beginning of the game when not a lot is happening during econ and scouting/harassing. Its hard to be super ecstatic like the commentators of league of legends considering theres more action and more to talk about and its faster paced. Theres definitely a happy middleground in there though.

Yes, I understand where you're coming from. The thought process was that the less savvy to the game casters can ask questions, and the more experienced one could explain an interaction or matchup, such that viewers would naturally have explanations.
Clearly it didn't work out as desired, which is only magnified by the fact that all of the casters (including myself) were volunteers with approximately no professional experience. This was probably noticeable in that there were relatively long silences at times as well.

@@SarisWinterwisp Thanks for the response. Didnt mean to come off as harsh if thats the way it sounded. I appreciate the open communication and wish you the best of luck on your casting adventures :)

@@TheSenseiSwift Worry not, dear viewer, any and all feedback is appreciated. I actually watch sc2 stuff all the time by the way, Lowko and Sc2 Highlights being great channels, but the issue is that I myself wouldn't be capable of applying any of it as I prefer to participate in tournaments, and casting during them isn't the best thing to be doing. I don't think forcing potential casters to learn or such is necessarily a great solution either, and such I'm in a bind.

Pretty fucked up Gnumas had to replay his game against forder when forder DC'd RIGHT as he was about to die. Then forder wins, of course.
