18:55 Not only is it very wholesome it also plays into a later scene where Mion says that Keiichi is going to have the same punishment as Tomitake. Keiichi thinks she’s talking about his death, but in reality she means the shirt drawing.
I also think that even after Keiichi pushes Rena down and runs away, in the anime she was laughing maniacally making her seem even more deranged and dangerous but perhaps that's when she realizes how alone she is without Keiichi and breaks away their trust, friendship and potential love. Like her heart is broken, she snaps and just laughs but out of sadness and frustration. :(

I watched the show something like ten years ago first and now just recently all over again, and honestly this arc specifically was such a sad one to watch. Knowing that all of the suspect things Keiichis friends were doing is just in his head and everything coming to an end by him brutally murdering and disfiguring his best friends and love interest just makes you sit there with your head in your hands for a moment.

Onikakushi was my first encounter with a time loop, and I was completely freaked by the ending of episode 4. I had to lay off anime a couple of days. K1's depiction of what all consuming paranoia was like was spot on and its terrifying.
That's fair. I'm still a Deen anime simp don't get me wrong, its a 9/10 in my book, I just am sad that we didn't get Tomitake hanging out with the gang more and Hanyuu being hinted at in this arc. Both I think are very important, but their lack of inclusion doesn't make it bad or anything

Hi hi hi! 8:01 I’m a teacher! Just wanted to talk about IEPs-that stands for individual education plan. Those are made for SPED students with documented physical and/or learning disabilities. In IEPs, the student has specific needs recognized, and their teachers legally have to accommodate those needs. (Example: a hearing-impaired student might be placed close to the teacher, or a student with ADHD might have an accommodation to have their assignments broken up into smaller chunks.) His getting an IEP must have happened because his parents noticed him starting to crack under the pressure they were putting him under. I imagine they called up a psychiatrist and strongarmed them into getting him a diagnosis because they were convinced that something was mentally wrong with him, not recognizing that they were overwhelming him and making him burn out. Just thought I’d clear that up! IEPs are somewhat stigmatized in the world of education (even though they shouldn’t be), so to me it doesn’t seem like it’s an extra marker of Keiichi being smart, it seems more to be indicative of his parents having good intentions with trying to support him in his education, but ultimately end up smothering him and making him feel as though he couldn’t rely on them for emotional support.
this was a very good analysis of all mediums, thank you for spending the time to go through everything and point out all the differences between each medium. Interesting video overall 10/10
i don't know in how many months you'll reach this point and i only watched anime but that moment when keichi remembers how he killed rena and mion and instead of syringe she's holding a marker felt like a point blank shot in the face because anime with it's limitations and differences feels... lot different, at least to me it did. like it's the audience jumping time and every time someone else is going crazy and then it hits you like a crowbar to the head first arc being only from keichi's perspective does make it feel like everyone is onto something and BAM it was him going mental everything he saw was a hallucination he murdered the hell out of them while they wanted to believe in him till the end
If anything, taking your time with analyzing things can only be better for the project, so that things can sit with you click all the pieces into place of this labyrinth of a story!
I like that you explain what the characters were experiencing. I’ve only watched the anime and while I really enjoyed it, I realize it was lacking in some places! The person who wrote the story clearly thought things through a lot and gave more hints than what we got in the show. I remember being 12 years old and watching this show for the first time. I got super annoyed when everything started over again in the second arc and contemplated dropping the show. BOY am I glad I didn’t. Shion’s arc was mega intense (and kinda spooky ngl) and Rena’s arc at the end of the show definitely had me crying like a dummy.
Okay, this does help me get a straight line with what was going on, and really helps put the puzzle together, as this video is like looking at the picture on the box. Thank you very much!
Well it's been a very long time since I've watched your Higurashi videos, and I'm pleased to see they're better than I remember them. I found myself wanting more and more of this. I hope there's more coming, but take your time. I know how draining the content creating process can be.

Really really good vid! For someone not that into the whole story; how many story arcs are there that follow this one? As an anime only I never even remotely understood the story that they wanted to tell 😅
There are 6 more main story arcs cause we covered 2 other ones. The rest are bonuses or debatably canon. Don’t worry tho I gotchu, I’ll get you as much info as I can cause I used to be anime only too
Onikakushi already had me on edge of "wtf" when I finished it, I didn't cry flood until that one scene in Tsumihoroboshi where Keiichi remembered what happened and how he was wrong for doubting his friends. Like, I already teared up with every text, I literally had to pause and process everything while still crying. Ryukishi is a peak writer and I respect him for pouring the flood out of my eyes.
My take for Keiichi's weird feeling in this arc - and the deen anime especially - is the idea that this fragment Keiichi was wanting to run away from his guilt, afraid of his past blowing up in his face. (!!Spoilers from here!!) He was so stressed out that he wouldnt be able to do better, be better that he became the mirror to Satoshi. Satoshi desperately wanted to be a better brother, a better person, so Satako could grow more independent and have a some what normal childhood. But the trauma was a heavy weight on his back that he couldnt shake. Keiichi wanted to grow and be better, especially after getting the forgiveness from the girl he shot. But it was always a weight on his back that he couldn't shake. The only difference was Satoshi had a "saving" grace of Irie growing attached to him. So he was able to be "saved" while L5 Keiichi was alone and had no one to stop him from clawing out his throat. -- Alternatively-- The first arc implies that keiichi is like REALLY fresh to himezawa and would likely be speaking like a "rude city boy" vs the likely more laid back casual rural tone everyone else uses. Other fragments imply that while he is new, hes acclimated to the village a lot more and has pretty open and comfortable dialogue with everyone. --- But I 100% agree that the apology in the beginning is likely a mix of a past fragment coming to his mind and Hanyuu. Keiichi is the only character shown to remember fragments clearly, vs other people's fragments being revealed purely in dreams. Also sorry for the wall of text haha. I love this series so much.
Yay! So glad to see this! And happy to you got better after getting corona. This really cleared up a lot of things for me. I was so confused about the needle and hot sauce. I guess that means Keiichi has a very weak tolerance to spicy stuff. But the hallucinating and paranoia doesn't help either. I was confused as in the Deen anime (and I think the manga) for some reason "manager" was translated as "director". And when Mion and Rena mentioned it, I thought they were meaning like a director that's in charge of shows and plays. My mind didn't make the connection of the director of the clinic (Dr. Irie)/baseball team. Although I'm more confused since Shion is the manager of the baseball team and Irie is the coach. I guess some things just got lost in translation. All I remember from the live action version was that Mion and Rena took off Keiichi's shirt to give him a sponge bath I think. They were wiping wet rags on him. It was awkward. When my mom came in she thought I was watching porn.
man, it's great to see someone else who likes keirena!! not like i want to start shipwar but i'm also in a similar boat to MrHunteru moreso due to personal feelings regarding the other character keiichi is paired with (hence why i'm still stubbornly refusing to read miotsukushi). this arc and tsumihoroboshi really does keirena well and i think became a blueprint as to the kinds of ships i like in the future 😊
I think it's not abnormal for cars to stop for longer periods of time when school children pass in Japanese villages like this, since they tend to walk together in big groups and there isn't much traffic. I recall hearing something to that effect from someone who went a small village there, but not sure how universal this is. I do think the hunting dogs were trying to either kill or "get" Keiichi since if he hallucinated he probably would have hallucinated someone he suspected and not a group that didn't really catch his eye at that point, but that's just my take on the matter. It's been a long time since I interacted with this series and seeing the sequence of events with hindsights really highlights how good Keiichi's friends were to him and made me remember to never trust cops lol

Dear god I got so fucking dumb founded by this episode. Like i watched the anime forever ago and was so confused what was happening but still thought it was good. Back then I honestly never knew that Keiich was the one going crazy and thought that Rena and Mion where. This completely chnged the show for me and changed so much in a GOOD way. Thank you so much for creating this so people like me can understand this show. ALSO RANDOM QUESTION - but if you could hmu in the comments that would be greatly appreciated i have a question!
I feel so stupid. I started the anime the other day, after looking up what order i should watch them in, this being the first one suggested. I hadn't played any of the visual novels or read the mangas. I took it for granted that Rena and Mion were out to get him. Yes, I did wonder about the cat eyes thing, but just chalked it up to being a manifestation of the curse or something. I remember getting angry that the cop said Keichii was a murderer, thinking "it was obviously self defense!" How could i have so utterly missed everything? It actually broke my heart when you stated these were all hallucinations, especially remembering the hand in the door scene. The poor girl was worried sick about her friend, and he smashes her hand in the door.
I think them lieing about satoshi hit him the hardest. At least in the visual novel. Like at first rena straight up tells him she never met the guy and I'm pretty sure thats not a hallucination. It's annoying when he calls people out on it and it frustratingly never goes anywhere cause he is so deep in paranoia.
I guess IEPs are different in America and Japan. Usually IEPs are for students who struggle in school and or have disabilities. Like dyslexia or dyscalculia. Or at least that was my experience.
Bro, pretending to be asleep, and he’s dropping is nowhere near as bad as someone standing out somebody’s bedroom door for an hour lmao.. if it had actually happened like he thought
now that you are saying the hallucinations is marked by cat eyes, now it starts to make more sense. the first time I wase wery confused, and the needle I belived: no way there is a needle in the food.
Thanks to your breakdown I now understand why this story has had some hype and was able to find the appreciation I was just shy of having for this series. I knew there was something there but what with the way the anime portrait the story, it appeared as though the story was made for the interest of viewers/readers that simply wanted to watch something grotesque and disturbing for grotesque and disturbing's sake. Perhaps in the anime adaptation, there were some creative licenses that were restricted or taken to induce that effect for whatever promoters/head of media and production teams moronic, nihilistic idea that to sell this story they would need to adhere primarily/solely to that demographic but that is my speculation as to why I could never understand wth I was watching or really appreciate what it was when I did give it a chance.
OKAY BUT LIKE, YOUR FRIEND STARTS CARRYING AROUND A WEAPON, SLAMS HIS BEST FRIENDS FINGERS IN THE DOOR AND YOU THINK NOOOOOW IS A GOOD TIME TO HOLD HIM DOWN ?!
Great video, looking forward to the next in the series. I still have two questions left: how exactly did Keiichi die after killing Mion and Rena? From what I have seen, he kills them with the baseball bat and afterwards he is wounded and makes the call. While being on the phone he feels someone behind him but who exactly killed him? Did I miss it or is it explained later on in the series? My second question is rather simple: Keiichi is suffering from the "syndrome" which makes him see stuff and be paranoid, but how exactly did he get infected. From your origin videos I was told that others of Hanyuu's kind are trying to posses humans. So is every infection just an alien ghost trying to posses the host? How exactly would that make sense in the context of everyone dying that gets possessed which means the alien ghost misses the goal?
So for the first question, Keiichi’s death was caused by himself;he clawed out his own throat, just like Tomitake did. This is cause the “curse” makes whoever have an intense feeling of bugs crawling inside their skins. The second question is that when Keiichi is becoming possessed, by means of Hanyuu’s people, it’s said that it makes them irritable, anxious, and increasingly violent. Hence why the further along he goes, the more violent and crazy he gets. They started possessing him because his mind was vulnerable. At least that’s what we can assume anyways, it’s not exactly clear, especially since Kotohogushi is a story that was made after the original arcs. I doubt the story initially had an alien species’ possession in mind lmao
@@MrHunteru Thanks for your fast reply! I didnt really think about the fact that they came up with the alien stuff later in the series. I am still confused why the alien ghosts would try to possess people when all we ever see are humans who get so paranoid that they kill themselves and therefore eradicate the potential host of the alien ghost. It defeats the purpose, but since i only know the anime and your video series, maybe there are other examples where the alien ghost successfully possesses a human, so their actions can better be justified?
I have no clue. My only guess is from what we know, they try to assimilate into babies because the babies had no idea something was going wrong, but when they try to move into older hosts they're aware that something is entering their body cause this is stuff we know from Kotohogushi. So maybe they try to stop it? I'm not sure
Correct me if am wrong, but I remember after one of the seasons, the entire city is destroy, and there's a reporte who reunite with the only one alive after the catastrophic events Rena was talking about when fighting Hugurashi, is that on a ova? Because I can't find the chapter
It was, she became “evil” as you state because she was injected with a serum that immediately makes her go to terminal stages of Hinamizawa Syndrome. Good question!
@@MrHunteruI also have one question two actually 😊 my first question is in curse killing why were people people such as takano, irie, and ooishi dying when keiichi wished for it? Finally my biggest question is are you going to the second arc???😮

first arc being only from keichi's perspective does make it feel like everyone is onto something
and BAM
it was him going mental
everything he saw was a hallucination
he murdered the hell out of them while they wanted to believe in him till the end
If anything, taking your time with analyzing things can only be better for the project, so that things can sit with you click all the pieces into place of this labyrinth of a story!
That’s very true. The longer I spent with this one the more I would end up realizing
Always down for more higurashj content even though I know what happens 😂 it's a nice refresher
Thanks for uploading it was worth the wait.
I’m happy to hear that :)
I’m trying to forget Higurashi so I can watch it again…
I will look at these videos in the future 😂
Understandable lmao I’ll see you in the near future then
Well it's been a very long time since I've watched your Higurashi videos, and I'm pleased to see they're better than I remember them. I found myself wanting more and more of this. I hope there's more coming, but take your time. I know how draining the content creating process can be.
The first arc is soo frikken sad once you realise all the malicious things MC saw werent really there.
Nice a new video from Mr. Hunteru to ease my pain of my laptop dying today out of no where.
Despite me not being in a minute in Keep up the great work, have fun while doing so and of course as usual do this thing at your own pace cause from the looks of it it's already phenomenal.
I will definitely! I'm sorry to hear about your laptop though, that sucks. Hopefully getting it fixed or a replacement isn't much of an issue
@@MrHunteru yeah tomorrow my gigachad friend here will try and help me fix this trashy laptop of mine while I'm still waiting for the day that I can get an replacement one. Which is yeah thanks for the concern this just happened out of no where but you know what they say it is what it is.
love these higurashi videos 💜
Really really good vid! For someone not that into the whole story; how many story arcs are there that follow this one? As an anime only I never even remotely understood the story that they wanted to tell 😅
There are 6 more main story arcs cause we covered 2 other ones. The rest are bonuses or debatably canon. Don’t worry tho I gotchu, I’ll get you as much info as I can cause I used to be anime only too
I remember someone saying that the syndrome was just paranoid schizophrenia.
These breakdowns of Higurashi are top notch.
In the english dub, Renna and Mion refer to Kyosuke as "The coach" instead of "Manager" so the dramatic irony of that scene is lost as a result
It is sad that they always suspect the innocent sonozaki family. Mion and her family is innocent
Yeah they fr just get in the crossfire of everything purely cause of their status and families history
@@MrHunteru too be fair, they didn’t confirm nor deny it
My take for Keiichi's weird feeling in this arc - and the deen anime especially - is the idea that this fragment Keiichi was wanting to run away from his guilt, afraid of his past blowing up in his face.
(!!Spoilers from here!!)
He was so stressed out that he wouldnt be able to do better, be better that he became the mirror to Satoshi.
-- Alternatively--
The first arc implies that keiichi is like REALLY fresh to himezawa and would likely be speaking like a "rude city boy" vs the likely more laid back casual rural tone everyone else uses.
Other fragments imply that while he is new, hes acclimated to the village a lot more and has pretty open and comfortable dialogue with everyone.
---
But I 100% agree that the apology in the beginning is likely a mix of a past fragment coming to his mind and Hanyuu. Keiichi is the only character shown to remember fragments clearly, vs other people's fragments being revealed purely in dreams.
Also sorry for the wall of text haha. I love this series so much.
Great vid! Love the comparison between thr mediums
Rally the Banners, a new MrHunteru Video is upon us.
The pain rika goes through 😕😢😢😢
So in baseball, the term manager = head coach (Irie). Shion was more an "assistant manager" and the moral support for the team
@@yanderetotodile ah, okay that makes more sense now. Thanks for clearing that up
excellent per usual. cant wait for the next timeline video!!
I ship Rena and keiichi so hard especially watching onikakushi
Godamn bro no wonder you were grinding so hard on this
+1 engagement
man, it's great to see someone else who likes keirena!! not like i want to start shipwar but i'm also in a similar boat to MrHunteru moreso due to personal feelings regarding the other character keiichi is paired with (hence why i'm still stubbornly refusing to read miotsukushi). this arc and tsumihoroboshi really does keirena well and i think became a blueprint as to the kinds of ships i like in the future 😊
I used to looking higurashi long time ago when I first had my computer that was centuries ago it brings back a long long good memories never do forget you think something like this would have been on Syfy on adult swim when I was watching my TV but I never do the Magi would see the world of anime beyond that and higurashi was one of them even though we didn't premiere on TV on air on TV it really was a good anime to watch on my computer and I would love to relive those days again I know because I was there and I saw the Manga and anime those were some good times you know when I think about it one of my favorite characters have to be kenichi I mean I know cuz I had some problems too that I face now I should have been thinking about looking at this anime with my granny had passed away when I was in school nevertheless it was a good anime like any other I mean I had some friends that I cared about but slowly everything start to change friends do come and they go sometimes they change and sometimes you never really forget about and I really do miss those days hang up with some good people I wish I could relive it all over again and looking at this anime it's the proof of it I just wish that my day is going to happen different we actually had good clubs activities of our own but that's all in the past now and I miss those days more than anyting I even took a karate class and they should have stayed Intuit I was among good people and good friends but I didn't want to go cuz I got too lazy all I would have been looking at it on my computer I got into it more to move my life could have been better among a lot of good friends and good opportunities and could have changed my life and watching higurashi it's proof of it I wish I can go back to those days morning anything and that's the one thing I want more than anything and looking at this animated you guys that you have made I mean it's proofably now and it was nice looking at this so thank you and maybe I might look at this anime again someday on the time is right but I have another anime thing about looking at right now so thanks 🙏😌🙏
Been waiting for this for a long time..but thx for upload
Of course, sorry it took so long lol
I feel so stupid. I started the anime the other day, after looking up what order i should watch them in, this being the first one suggested. I hadn't played any of the visual novels or read the mangas.
I took it for granted that Rena and Mion were out to get him. Yes, I did wonder about the cat eyes thing, but just chalked it up to being a manifestation of the curse or something. I remember getting angry that the cop said Keichii was a murderer, thinking "it was obviously self defense!"
How could i have so utterly missed everything? It actually broke my heart when you stated these were all hallucinations, especially remembering the hand in the door scene. The poor girl was worried sick about her friend, and he smashes her hand in the door.
The goat is back !!!!
YESSSIR what’s good bobby been a long time
I think them lieing about satoshi hit him the hardest. At least in the visual novel. Like at first rena straight up tells him she never met the guy and I'm pretty sure thats not a hallucination. It's annoying when he calls people out on it and it frustratingly never goes anywhere cause he is so deep in paranoia.
Uhggg I hate how obsessed with this show I became.
I guess IEPs are different in America and Japan. Usually IEPs are for students who struggle in school and or have disabilities. Like dyslexia or dyscalculia. Or at least that was my experience.
No you're completely right, I said the wrong thing. That's my bad
Here we go, after a long wait 🙏
I treasure this video ❤😮 thanks for making it! Very entertaining
Yaay legend is back
Man, I should really start actually watching this again 😅 Im kind of so confused about this hahaha
Hinamizawa is a nice village, i currently live there. ❤ From Hinamizawa
3:05 This is me, i am the "you" of your sentence.
as i kid i watched the fisrt two seasons and i never got it so i'm signing up for higurashi courses
I have the manga, Wish I read that first.❤
"How did you find your way here?"
Dude, I just found some killer music with harpsicord in it, and now I got a lot of dead teenagers on the deck, so...
PLEASE WHEN PART 2 I NEED IT
NICE finally it's here!
Bro to this day I thought Shion an Rena fr were trying to kill Keiichi
Great review you ahve a new sub cant wait for the rest!
Welcome aboard!
Holy shit this is the one everything was leading up to holy cow.
Let’s gooo 😊
Bro, pretending to be asleep, and he’s dropping is nowhere near as bad as someone standing out somebody’s bedroom door for an hour lmao.. if it had actually happened like he thought
The way I see it
The manga version is exactly from what Kechi sees due to the effects of the infection
“Time to indulge in some mmmmmmm ultra violence” *57 min later “damn I’m sad now :/“
so, uhm... has it been two months yet? I NEED the other parts! hahahah
now that you are saying the hallucinations is marked by cat eyes, now it starts to make more sense.
the first time I wase wery confused, and the needle I belived: no way there is a needle in the food.
Even worse for Rena she told him a little lie she thought would help him. And it only made it worse
How did he get the syndrome in the first place.
If I'm not mistaken, Satako wasn't going around sticking people with syringes at this point
Mad man
Good luck
Holy shit.I totally misunderstood the first arc.
Ong peak fiction is peak ong I love it
You're videos genuinely bring me joy I have been here since 1000 subs your a Chad and you improved a lot
OKAY BUT LIKE, YOUR FRIEND STARTS CARRYING AROUND A WEAPON, SLAMS HIS BEST FRIENDS FINGERS IN THE DOOR AND YOU THINK NOOOOOW IS A GOOD TIME TO HOLD HIM DOWN ?!
I get that they are concerned of him.. but dang. Do they really had to do the punishment game knowing hes just all over the place
been waiting for a year
When the next video?
where is the next part? ;-;
It’s being worked on, but I have no release date for it cause I keep prioritizing other things over it
@MrHunteru yaaayyy, im looking forward to it
I will watch this, but at another time. 3 minutes in and im already confused on the how it started.
There are two other timeline videos before this one that may help you out
ANOTHER HIGU VID? HOLY ****
Holy fuck I feel so bad for Rena 😭
You broke this series down perfectly, bro. I remember watching this back in 2004 on top of watching a certain magical index.
WE ARE FUCKING BACK. IM LATE BUT IM HERE
HELLL YEAAAHHHH
thanks so much. Been trying to get into higu but it’s quite confusing
So whats the conclusion of this anjme? There is no bad guys?
So why does Rena become actually evil in Gou? I thought Gou was a reboot?
It was, she became “evil” as you state because she was injected with a serum that immediately makes her go to terminal stages of Hinamizawa Syndrome. Good question!
@@MrHunteru❤❤❤ I love your Higurashi videos
@@MrHunteruI also have one question two actually 😊 my first question is in curse killing why were people people such as takano, irie, and ooishi dying when keiichi wished for it? Finally my biggest question is are you going to the second arc???😮
I guess the anime didn't know how to translate from the manga
Finally!
I know Nothing about this game. I just watched this video cuz I was recommended it lmao.
"if you know nothing about this howd you get here"
hiiiiiii . i only know that this series has some serious blood or something . live horror but am a massive chicken so these type of vids are my lifeline
Oh lmao WELCOME TO THE SERIESSSSS
He got the syndromes, i think ... so i feel bad for him . He got syndromes in both when he killed hogo satako uncle and at first episode...
Rena? Mion? You fools. Keiichi has two hands (and imma be so fr Rena and Mion are fruity)
