    Quirrel was a ravenclaw while Pettigrew was a Gryffindor. Meanwhile people like Regulus Black, Horace Slughorn, and Severus Snape all have 2 things in common. All 3 were Slytherin and were instrumental in their contributions to defeating Voldemort

      You know who's a good example of a
      HEALTHY SLYTHERIN?
      Hiro Okumura - from 'Isekai Word Cheat', the Manga.
      He likes Books a lot, so you think first of Ravenclaw, but then
      you realize that: no, he's actually a Slytherin.
      A very, very healthy one.
      He's always thinking of his own benefit,
      but in a very healthy way, that is rather hard to describe.
      He's affecting everyone, but not manipulating anyone,
      if you get what i mean.
      He's also teaching people being polite - in a very rude manner though (lol)...
      He's practical and teaches people that most importantly.
      Mercy, Kindness and all that are indeed Positive BUT you
      can also NOT EXPECT them - you need to pay
      people for their work, for example.
      And that's just a summary about him.

    • @slevinchannel7589

      Hagrids Statement in the Books does not make sense.
      You can excuse Ron (though not really...) cause he's
      a stupid little boy when he speaks out his prejudices
      against Slytherin.
      But Hagrid knew Sirius Black (even borrowed his bike)
      and believed, like everyone believed, that he killed
      a dozen people.
      Sirius actually being innocnet does not matter for that;
      it's stil weird.

Being ambitious, resourceful and determined doesn't necessarily make you an evil person, and when Rowling realized that she hadn't depicted a sympathetic example of a Slytherin, she created Slughorn as a positive depiction.

    I feel like a lot of people in the house seeking power, knowledge, and their goals had something to do with it. Often times, ambitious people will step on others to get to their goals or use them to their advantage. (Just thinking the opposite of Hufflepuffs).

    • @savannahrae9122
      @savannahrae9122 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I agree, I'm a Slytherin. The houses traits are ones of powerful and successful people, these traits are also the easier to misrepresent and go too far with; cunning resourcefulness and Ambition are all traits seen as neutral because they can be displayed in very different ways and if these traits are displayed in a toxic manner... well the house will quickly get a bad rep.
      However these traits are extremely useful and when used properly can create very strong successful people that everyone would admire. Merlin is a good example of all traits used properly.
      The problem comes when the line between what is good and what is bad is so thin with these traits that you end up with bad people overwhelmingly in one house.
      It's likely the reason so many arrogant people are from Gryffindor, Know it all's or eccentric people in Ravenclaw, and Mindless followers or Pushovers are in Hufflepuff, it's their traits improperly expressed, in many cases to the extreme that creates these bad stereotype.

      Slytherin is about deciding for yourself what you desire or value, and pursuing that, and knowing what you are willing to give up or sacrifice to achieve your goals.

    • @DaroriDerEinzige
      @DaroriDerEinzige 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ... It's simple a theme Rowling thought was pretty good and then realized "Oh damn, if Ron, Harry and Hermine are in different Houses, then they can't hang out together all the time." which watered it down from the get go.
      I mean, if every Slytherin Dude would be borderline "Dangerous", why they don't banish them?
      And what does Crabbe & Goyle doin' in Slytherin?
      Why is Hermine in Gryffendor and not Ravenclaw? I mean she's literally the embodiement of "Knowin' it all but gettin' nervous pretty easily.".
      And how does this whole thingy work after the Battle of Hogwarts, I mean sure a few Slytherins under Slughorn came back if I remember correctly buuut ... I mean, imagine you're an 11 ~15 year old one and while everybody else does something you get shipped off because "You're not trustworthy!" because of the House you got sorted in to. I wouldn't care much after that about any other Wizzard outside my House.
      In addition to that, there are Plotholes like: The whole inner Circle of Deat Eaters must have known that Voldemort isn't a Pureblood for an example.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaroriDerEinzige The houses are assigned based on what traits you value not what you possess. And what Slytherin really values is a sense of moral relativism.
      And I very much doubt the death eaters knew Voldy was half blood, remember to them him being a powerful wizard is proof enough that he's pureblood even if he doesn't know his parents.

  • @jnmsks6052
    @jnmsks6052 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I think some of the reason many evil wizards were in Slytherin house is simply because the traits valued by Slytherin can more easily lead to a dark path if the individual is thirsty enough for power. That doesn't make the house evil. It's still about individual decisions.

  • @987liss
    @987liss 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    not only that, but the main traits of a Slytherin are cunning, ambitious and determined, with a high chance at succeeding in life. If an evil person were in any other house, they would be less likely to go forward with their evil plans, and therefore not be as much of a threat. The evil people who are sorted into Slytherin are the frightening ones, because they will actually go though with their plans.
    So the way I see, it, it's not like the Slytherin house produced Death Eaters - like-minded people in other houses just weren't determined or ambitious enough to live up to it, so very few of them actually ended up as Death Eaters

      @@gabri_cheesellamasneeze9006 Not sure how you say she paints cunning and ambitious people in a black and white way when Snape happens to be the most grey character in the books.
      The problem is that Rowling needed to make Voldemort a cunning and ambitious person to be the type of threat that he is, and then she made those the traits of Slytherin House itself. To be wizard Hitler, and to try to subjugate an entire class of people, requires those traits, because every tyrannical leader in history who has attempted those types of things has had those at the cornerstone of their personalities. Same goes with their followers.

    Many forget that Dumbledore a Gryffindor almost went down a dark path influenced by Grindelwald until the tragic death of his sister sobered him up. I really think Dumbledore was more of a Slytherin than a Gryffindor. While he came to value bravery and chivalry over ambition, that was only after he left the school and had to overcome his love of a bloodthirsty would-be oppressor. His traits point far more obviously toward Slytherin, I think it's just retrospect and motivated reasoning that led Rowling to put Dumbledore in Gryffindor.

    I hope that future generations of Potterheads don’t have to deal with the same kind of thought processes. That “Slytherin is bad and evil” and “Gryffindor is the best” because that’s not always the case.
    If you are a fellow Slytherin, or maybe even a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, and a younger fan reacts negatively to your house, please don’t be afraid to educate them.
    Slytherins aren’t evil.

    Look the reason why there were so many evil wizards in slytherin was because people believed slytherin is the evil house so if you are planning on being evil you tell the sorting hat to put you in Slytherin. Also Hufflepuff is the only house to have never produced an evil wizard. Gryffindor produced Pettigrew May he go to h*ll, Ravenclaw produced Quirrell, and Slytherin produced Bellatrix May she accompany Pettigrew to h*ll. I hate that people always say it’s only slytherin that produces bad wizards. And although I believe that muggleborns are just as magical as pure bloods I also think that pure bloods will usually (usually not always) be better at school at first than muggleborns. Think about it logically. Pure bloods and halfbloods have been around magic all their lives. They played with their parents wands and practiced magic. Although your parentage has no effect on your magical skill it does on your performance in school at first. Believe me I am not a death eater or a bad person so please don’t attack me with hate. Why is everyone in the comments acting like a single person has ever said "everyone in slytherin is evil" when it's "every evil person has come from slytherin"

  • @rodneylane952
    @rodneylane952 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    We should've had more examples of Slytherins being outwardly good. Snape, for how helpful he was, was still a dick who bullied his students. And Slughorn was only brave at the very last minute. It's easy to see why most of the fandom thinks all dark wizards are Slytherins

      Yes, I guess that if you have read the books, you would know. Besides, all wizards are related somehow. So no surprise there.

    I think large factor of Slytherin's reputation is that by evil characters from Slytherin (Voldemort, Malfoys...) their (ex-)house is often mentioned and their personality is given as an example of Slytherin's characteristics (cunning, ambition...). However by evil characters from other houses their houses aren't (basically) mentioned (Quirrell, Lockhart...) or they are given as an example of people who don't have their houses' characteristics (e.g. Wormtail is regarded by everyone as coward even though Griffindors are supposed to be brave).

    the reason why "all" slytherins are evil is because j.k Rowling needed a way to group together most of the people who would support Voldemort

    Always been a Slytherin. And proud of it. I can’t imagine myself in any other house. If I had been a muggle born while blood supremacy was still so important, I have no idea what house I’d be in. Probably gryffindor, but pretty much all of my family are slytherins too lol. Maybe we would have been a relatively “pure blood” family lol.

    The traits that gets you sorted into slytherin simply are half-way into the death-eater thinking. That does not mean that being a slytherin means you are a death eater, but they have many traits in common - and the later promises those like the ppl from slytherin more privileges and status so those attracted to that will be drawn to it. Also since Voldemort was from slytherin, he of cores recruited the most from his own house that he was closest to, just logical.The first death eaters was his classmates from his years as a student at hogwarts.

    I’d think Bellatrix would be pretty if she did her hair, she might have been a dark wizard but she did have qualities that’s made her a good character to learn about. Otherwise she was a good villain

    • @juliie007
      @juliie007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually Bellatrix was considered a beauty with thick eyelashes, dark silky hair and bearing the classic Black family arrogant stunning dark looks. She resembled her handsome cousin Sirius, her softer sister Andromeda & even Narcissisa though she was fair-skinned. Harry stated that her stint in Azkaban hollowed her good looks and was gaunt similar to Sirius but she did retain a few vestiges of her former beauty if you looked close enough. Helena the actress that played Bellatrix felt that keeping her hair unkempt gave her a fierce and insane look after Azkaban.

      I actually believe Hufflepuff is more interesting it’s just that they don’t like to draw attention to themselves. I believe notable Hufflepuffs in the house were traditionally selected there coz of their families. Cedric Diggory’s family, the Bones family, the Tonks except Andromeda, the Fawleys, the Scamander family, Ernie Macmillan’s family, Hannah Abbot’s family, Zachariah Smith’s family which may be related to Hepzibah a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff. If this were true, then Zachariah smith would be the only other student descending from a founders lineage to attend Hogwarts save for Tom Riddle 50yrs earlier. There so many other interesting Hufflepuffs lives that I’ve omitted.
