I've never done this before.. I've always been the one seeing these comments... One of my best friends died the night before last in a car accident. I was on his TH-cam page going through his favorites and found this. I'm gonna miss hanging with him and listening to the Dead. A lot.. Always try to take the time to appreciate people you love.. Even when life is crazy. Always forgive the ones that are worth it, because a genuine friendship is a beautiful and sacred thing..
Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you have found peace and comfort, especially with the wonderful memories of your friend. Peace.....
@@booognish hoping this comment send's you a message and bring's you back to this fantastic song :) we will all see our friends and family again on some other plane of reality and it will be beautiful I just know it. Just not in this life
its been so long since i saw jerry. i miss tour and i miss jerry. this song brings back so ,so many great memories. so many freinds i made in the nine years i followed them. love this song.
generations of music . i am so happy I introduced GD to my son.. I met Jerry in Stony brook NY , never will forget he day I waited on him. I screamed so loud he had to evacuate .
That scene from the train station is when they ran out of booze on the festival express and everyone on board agreed to stop and stock up! Thanks for this video.
Sometimes you get surprised, thought it was going to be China Cat with pics (would have been very happy with that), but Pink Panther clips along with it, what a great day!
Right when Jerry sings: "I wish I was a headlight on a North bound train" the train comes around a corner on the tracks with it's headlight shining right into the camera. Perfect!
I was a year and a half old when jerry died, but the dead have been such a huge influence in my life! One of my all time favorite song/combo of songs. Great stuff!
in 1969 the GD played in my school gymnasium!! Stony Brook L.I. needless to say "what a show"...anyway Bob Weir and I hooked up and he invited me to go to Porchester, NY concert the next weekend. when I did, i danced onstage with the band & both I and the rest of the band and the groupies, left in the limo. I stayed with them the whole weekend! the truth, i swear! I SLEPT in the same bed as Bob Weir. so, yeah i'm cool. also, Truthful. which is why i edited my original comment. i filled in some personal details, for you deadheads and for myself, so when i'm ninety years old, i'll get pleasure out of my forgotten memories.
Favorited!!! Makes me remember the old days in Brønby Popclub close to Copenhacen in Dennmark where they showed animation films along with the light show. Those were the days of innosence
Just started listening to GD again recently. Then last night, I randomly watched this Pink Panther episode on Netflix and today I come across this. Cool! :D
You are correct folk89, this is the 2/19/71 show from the Capitol. The first show with Mickey Hart for a few years, as the notes in the archive indicate.
oH MAn I need to dose, Loved the Pink panther, and the more recent video of another time long gone. day 3 with a bad sickness/flu but that sent me all trippy sorts of feeling and that cartoon brought me back to my childhood's most obscure memories
I'll start at 70 just to be sure, but I do have a bunch. I'll try to find it for sure. Thanks for the upload!!! It'll be fun listening to them all like a col-age of China-Rider's. I hope I don't get lost... LOL
the footage is from the canadian cross country film when they stopped in Medice Hat(I think0 and the liquor stare was right by the tracks. look at the size of the bottle of CC.
Same as what everyone else said -- it's a great performance, and it was clearly an inspired choice to mate it with Blake Edwards' concept of a trippy cartoon experience. Ya done good -- thank you so much for sharing! Best to you, and to everyone...
guess where the Dead played in 1969? Port Chester...amen. i was 19, and there for that weekends concerts. on the stage, full time with some groupies and we danced for the entire night all that weekend. i slept with my good pal (who said he was my cousin that weekend) BW in a room shared by Phil Lesh and girl from audience Bob and myself. the music was pretty good too, no kidding!
Look for awhile at the China Cat Sunflower proud-walking jingle in the midnight sun Copper-dome Bodhi drip a silver kimono like a crazy-quilt stargown through a dream night wind Krazy Kat peeking through a lace bandana like a one-eyed Cheshire like a diamond-eye Jack A leaf of all colors plays a golden string fiddle to a double-e waterfall over my back Comic book colors on a violin river crying Leonardo words from out a silk trombone I rang a silent bell beneath a shower of pearls in the eagle wing palace of the Queen Chinee
i often jingle in the midnight sun, i think o this tune whenever im walkin in the dark with too much shrapnel in my pocket. copper coins jingle better, more in keepin with the tune. u should try it, silver sounds more beach boys. peace all
Sometimes it's the destination; sometimes it's the journey; sometimes it's both. You might notice that -- unlike almost any other YT music threads (or for that matter those on almost any subject) -- there's no rancor, no d!ck-waving, and almost no ego showing, in the debate... Just people sharing memories of (or sometimes wishing they'd been there to remember) some great times. And thank you for settling the matter. Cheers . ps -- love your handle; you musta been a *v* early-adopter!
Great music and video! I love the combo of the Pink Panther and FESTIVAL EXPRESS. You should consider doing a Grateful Dead video to some HERE COMES THE GRUMP clips, another DePatie-Freleng 'toon that delved into psychedelia.
If I may. I saw the Dead 💀 in 71 at a Junior college in St. Louis . Garcia played pedal steel for the New Riders . Dropped some window pane with my little hippie buddies. I cried when the Riders played Lonesome LA Cowboy.. I was 13 years old. My friends still rip me. Acid is a hell of a drug 😂😂😂
This is definitely late 1970 or early 1971. By late '71 China Cat and I Know You Rider had gotten stretched out to the familiar Europe '72 sound. Slower, smoother and funkier. But, like this version a lot, too....
@equalhappiness what you say! i agree i'll have to that all GD even attempts to capture their total magic are worth the work..and this is coming from a girl who danced onstage with the Band during their Capitol Theatre 1970 concerts. and more.....
This video and the comments reminds me of the time that I smoked and ate so much weed that I saw, felt, smelled and tasted violet for about a minute and a half. That shit was fucked up.
@equalhappiness As much as I love jerry I have to say that Phil was the binding energy that kept the dead togther on those days (rare as they were in the early years) when Garcia was not at his best, he can take all the crazyness and flow of the dead he locks it all in. But yea, I wish I could have been around to see them live!

I still miss my friend so much. I think of him every single day...
Live in his memory. Don't let that go. He's with you.

That Festival Express footage at the end was really cool.
the pink panther plus the festival express footage.....RRRROYALLY COOL VID!!!!
My little one loves this. We watch it together alot. 😁
generations of music . i am so happy I introduced GD to my son.. I met Jerry in Stony brook NY , never will forget he day I waited on him. I screamed so loud he had to evacuate .
One Word..... Fabulous!
That scene from the train station is when they ran out of booze on the festival express and everyone on board agreed to stop and stock up! Thanks for this video.
This is my daughter's favorite cartoon! 😊. She loves the Grateful Dead. I used to sing the song Ripple to her when she was a baby.
Wonderful sentiment! Ripple is a gem 4sure. But, I was "sole owner" of this tune the first time i heard it in 1968. Long story follows..
Everything tasted purple for a moment. Rider is frikken AWESOME!!!
Sometimes you get surprised, thought it was going to be China Cat with pics (would have been very happy with that), but Pink Panther clips along with it, what a great day!
how can you not love the train ride? boggles the mind ...
Right when Jerry sings: "I wish I was a headlight on a North bound train" the train comes around a corner on the tracks with it's headlight shining right into the camera. Perfect!
I love whoever did the vid for this very entertaining !
I was a year and a half old when jerry died, but the dead have been such a huge influence in my life! One of my all time favorite song/combo of songs. Great stuff!

This is really good. Thanks for posting. The Pink Panther stuff is oddly synch'd. I love this. The movie was cool also.
2 people must have pressed dislike by accident..... I could listen to this all day!!!
Reminds me of when we used play the dead and have the tv on in the background with no sound
I thought I was the only person who did that! Hahaha!
I do that! Sometimes to the Andy Griffith show or other older shows. It's funny when it starts to actually match up!
That's so perfect!
very nice. thanks . and WOW. giddie UP.
If a you come across a Dead fan that does not think this is one of the greatest songs they sang than he's not a true Deadhead. Period...
My favorite video on TH-cam right now
