Love his performance, but no. There is going to be much more that needs to be done than just a fantastic performance of a song to make me feel pride for this country again.
After hearing this version of the National Anthem, I now want to hear of more male vocalists with guitars being invited to perform it in future Superbowls. Then I get a little sad thinking how Chris Cornell would have sounded. Chris Stapleton made it about the song, not him. That's why it's one of the best versions to date.
After millions of performances before this, he set a new standard. Anything less than this is unacceptable.

This is how the national anthem should be played/sung, period. Probably the fourth time I've heard Chris sing this, but I get goosebumps every single time.
I agree it should be sung imo with pure emotion and pride to even be tasked with singing an anthem to a country. Instead of it being more of a display of talent and show for the different type of runs you can make.

As a combat vet I always get emotional hearing this song. This rendition brought tears to my eyes like no other rendition.
It's the deep patriotism inside that gets brought up when it's sang right that's where the tears come from

I saw this Chris in concert and his voice is better in person than in his album it’s crazy
With his talent and voice, he could have ramped up and done a hundred different things with this song....he didn't...he picked up his guitar and serenaded the whole country...and brought us together as Americans, if only for a couple minutes. Sung with dignity, respect, soul, and feeling the way it should be. I'm in my 60's... this and Whitney Houston have set the gold standard for this song, and it will be tough to ever beat.

I’ve cried at every reaction. For those few moments I felt American again! He is the only one that has made me cry. His voice was stunning and it moved me. Chris Stapleton is an American man that we needed for those few moments to feel something we had not felt for a long time. I adore Chris!

Thank you! I spoke of it not being over the top and done with grace, patriotism and humility and Chris made it about the anthem, as it should be, instead if himself. Chris doesn't have to prove anything. He's already done that. The other reactor told me to keep my negative comments to myself. What was negative? I loved Chris rendition of the anthem. Especially since I know the backstory that the verses are actually a blow by blow account of what the author. Frances Scott Key, witnessed on the night, during the War of 1812, when the British were trying to take the USA back over. Our patriots physically held our flag up, knowing it was certain death from bombs and cannons, so it wouldn't fall, signaling surrender to the British. They held that flag up for HOURS and when they died, others took their place to keep our flag from touching the ground. That's why we don't let it touch the ground to this day. I've seen that flag, flown over that fort that night, at The American History Museum at the Smithsonian. So many have died, and still do, to protect us and keep us free. I'm very patriotic and PROUD of my country and my flag and what she stands for. God Bless America 🇺🇸 and thank you sir, for your reaction. May God bless you always.

He is respectful of the story and sentiment playing it in a very subdued way not with a ton of flourish that puts the spotlight more on the performance not the heartfelt story. He always makes you FEEL... loved this rendition!

This is my favorite national anthem. Chris is a once in a lifetime type talent. A man and his guitar with a sound so good that adding a big production couldn't make it any better. Truly amazing!
You have to think about how many times those players and coaching staff hears this ! Chris was able to make this emotional for them, not every singer can do that.
Also being at the SUPER BOWL just may have possibly had something to do with it...smh🙄

In my opinion it IS the best verion I’ve ever heard. Also what I loved is that just about anyone who loves music in general (no matter what genre you listen to) can really appreciate what a tremendous job he did.
