what a match! Brazilan team, although it wasn't better than that of 1982, was better than France in that match, and should have qualified. Joel Bats was France's hero in this match...
Quarter-finals: Saturday 21st June 1986 Brazil 1 France 1 (after extra time; France won 5-4 on penalties) (Guadalajara) Mexico (hosts) v West Germany (Monterrey) Sunday 22nd June England v Argentina (Mexico City) Spain v Belgium (Puebla)
Race for the Golden Boot - leading scorers list after France prevailed on penalties in this titanic contest: 5 goals each: Careca (Brazil),Lineker (England) and Butragueno (Spain) 4 goals each: Altobelli (Italy),Elkjaer (Denmark) and Belanov (USSR) 3 goals each: Valdano (Argentina) and Jesper Olsen (Denmark) 2 goals each: Josimar (Brazil),Socrates (Brazil),Platini (France),Stopyra (France),Quirarte (Mexico),Scifo (Belgium),Claesen (Belgium),Caldere (Spain),Alloffs (West Germany),Yaremchuk (USSR),Cabanas (Paraguay),Romero (Paraguay) and Khairi (Morocco)
I remember watching this match with the family. it was truly an epic thriller! Even though it was only 8 days before the final,it still felt as though the loser of these two fine sides would be gone from the competition too soon.
How in the hell did the ref not red card Brazil's goalie at 7:49? That was the most blatant foul I've ever seen by a golie. And then Socrates misses a sure goal just 20 seconds later for Brazil. Crazy game.
Unforgettable match! I was 10 years old and wanted Brazil to be a world champion, 'cause my national team, Poland, lost 0:4 against them in the second round (and i was thinking it was sad that we had been eliminated but it wouldn't be a shame to be eliminated by the world champions). But football sometimes is very cruel... Years are gone but Brazil is still one of my favourite national teams all over the world. And I still slightly don't like French team...
The Brazilians underestimated the French. They didnt take into account that France were the European champions, and even though they werent as fluid as they were a few years back, they were still in pain from 1982 and werent gonna let anyone beat them.
Brazil were so unlucky, was gutted as a load of twats cheered as France won??? Tele Santana was the best manager ever....especially 82 side...dynamic style was so exciting to watch....felt like 20 mins not 90 ! The gods were cruel
7:39 - crime
and...
8:56 - punishment
The best football match in history. Thanks for the upload.
