That ending was devastating, both characters knew they would never see eachother again. It was intetesting how she's the one to always leave yet in the end, it was finally Hae's turn to be the one who leaves.
They might see each other again, but they may not be together in this lifetime.
Bc they both accepted their fate. Hae couldn't do anything about that so perhaps moving on was the only way to go. 😌
@@jatinsingh2162 Going to China for Mandarin was not fate, it was pointless and irrational.
@@squirrely8418and we all make mistakes, relatable
@@Dominicn123 Everything would have spoken in favor of going to New York. He had nothing to lose but his room with his parents.
The movie was deeper than a love story of childhood sweethearts. The movie is about a Korean-American woman saying good-bye to her Korean identity. Whatever what-ifs she had about her life if she had never left Korea, she finally had to let go.
Same, I didn't think it was a romance film, but one about identity
I couldn’t stop crying at the end of the movie. It was too good.
Just saw it last night and loved it. Not a dry eye at the end. Its not a sad ending nor a happy one. Its just real and pure. No cliche mainstream "love" movie drama. Just real, mature ppl.
It was perfection
Where can I watch it
yes. I don't really feel the love triangle or hookup . it just 2 friends want a proper good bye.
Very well said
@@Cinespidey past lives is a copy or inspired of 96 movie. Please one time watch indian movie 96 .
I didn’t cry. Because I was exactly in his shoes, but I decided cross the seas and meet her. We are now with one child, happy.
Arthur is the real hero, the way he hold onto his emotions, it was beautiful
I agree. I didn't really find the film to be that deep as others because... for me the movie was all about disrespecting the husband 😂😂😂 just my perspective and intake of the film I guess.
@konghere Yup, but that sort of thing happens because they thought he couldn't understand and their time was so tight.
@@konghereI couldn’t help but feel the same thing throughout the movie damn the husband is just chop liver while his wife “gets closure/decides if she’s gonna leave him?”
I cried at the bar scene. I have this friend. We were 12. But he passed away when he was 12 from a car accident. But I’ve never been able to forget about him.
It felt like the conversation we woulda had. Word for word.
wow. condolences for your loss. a beautiful relationship.
I didn't cry, I smiled, I felt peace, and my heart with it.
Me too! But I really felt it.
Yeah, I ugly cried in front of my friends watching this movie. It's more adult than any movie I've seen.
We all move on and hold onto our past, but never admit to it.
Arthur has the hardest job in the world, acting like he's OK with a past love meeting his wife.
It's a perfect movie and my fav or 2023.
I would say it’s not that we move on, it’s that we can’t move on, even though time passes.
When she was holding it all in when she was walking back to her house….then cried at her husband’s arm. That was it for me :(((((((( i cried with her 💔 plus that moment when in the beginning where Nora told Haesung to stop talking with her. I felt for Haesung :(((((((
I absolutely loved the fact that she felt so comfortable to cry on her husband’s arm. If that’s not love idk what is
This movie healed me. I had a breakup, and then we made mistake trying to be friends immediately, and then everything blew up. Months later I still walk around feeling like my chest is collapsing. I cried so many times watching this movie because some scenes feels so familiar. At the end when they parted again, I feel this… contentment. Because this movie taught me that some connections are just so special. Years and years not seeing each other won’t diminish that. And it’s okay to honor that connection even when you don’t end up together. When I walked out from the cinema, I feel at peace for the first time ever in months.
Yeah, knowing you gave it your all. You are at peace with yourself.
I think it's more about saying goodbye to one's former self. At some point, everyone experiences this to some extent. However, those who move to a foreign country, including myself, undergo this change more dramatically. We realize that we are becoming less connected to our country of origin. It's a sad realization. It's not intentional, but we find ourselves adapting more to the ways of our current country. It's difficult to articulate in words, but this movie captures exactly what I'm trying to express.
Totally spot on. I think this is the deeper meaning of the film. It captures beautifully the experience of migration and biculturalism.
I think almost everyone can relate to this story. The brilliant flashback to the childhood goodbye was such an emotional gut punch…
Spot on! This is my 2023 movie of the year
This film really surprised me. It made me cry. The actors in this film make it so believable. I felt like I was watching something that was happening in real life. That longing feeling is there and the feeling of admiration. I just love this film! Will watch it again in a theatre. ❤❤❤
It was beautiful!
Haven't even watched it but I cried thinking bout it
Haesung was the emodiment of Nayoung (Nora)'s past, of Korea, and what she left. She wanted to leave him, but deep in her heart she truly did miss him, so much.
That ending. Wow. She went back to the younger version of herself while he grew.
She used to leave, now he was the one leaving.
She used to cry, then stopped. And then she ends up crying for the first time in 20+ years.
Saw it in a theater by myself last weekend, no one wants to go with you to see great art, don't let that stop you! Go support this movie!
Seeing a movie alone is just as fun as seeing it with someone! I’m glad you enjoyed it! It was amazing!
Yo same ! I went on my own coz i know none of my friends dig movies like these .. i mean i had been waiting for 4 months ever since that i saw that trailer on A24 channel
So so worth it .. beautiful movie !
We even had Celine Song herself explain certain scenes like that ending scene and answer audience questions ...such a great experience !
A24 is perfection honestly 😂 they make me smile every time I see their logo appear
@@Cinespidey truee.. so many of my favourite movies are from this production
Except for the film with Finn wolf hard, I hated it so much the entire ‘family’ felt so ignorant
Totally agree. Beautiful, wonderful, touching, joyful, sad. A wonderful movie. Beautifully written with an excellent cast to match.
Simply beautiful. Real, quiet, mature, heartfelt.
Even thinking about the ending months later, it still devastates me and makes me want to cry
This movie is the most nail biting peaceful movie I’ve ever seen. They just peacefully go their separate ways
This movie was perfect. You can't find any mistakes in this movie. Visually it was mesmerizing. The shots were very cool . The acting was superb. Really a good film
The ending got me, bittersweet 😢
Stunning movie. Stunning cinematography. Stunning acting. Ugh I simply adore this movie
Watched this on a plane. Definately holding back tears while sitting in the middle seat.
Lol. Me too. This is not a movie to watch in front of people. But I'm so glad I watched it. That ending hit me
Awwww
It's not just about a relationship. At the end, she had to say goodbye to her past.
Just watched this over the weekend and it hit me harder than I thought it would. This movie, like certain memories, will stick with me. Highly recommend 👌🏽
Agree ❤ chills all over and tears every single time from more than ten times I was watching that movie, just love it❤
Loved this movie. Brought out emotions I didn’t think I had.
It was such a pure movie
This movie is underrated. This is masterpiece.
Truly is! One of the best a24 films
Completely agree - total masterpiece ❤
At the end I felt someone hit me in the gut. I cried.
It was really exceptional !!! Just watched it this afternoon in Los Angeles AMC Theater !!!! I’m imotessed nothing like the usual
K Drama that are on Netflix !!!! Bravo !!! Excellent work !!❤️❤️❤️
It was so beautiful!
@@Cinespideybro you watch 96 (2018) indian movie. this movie story is same as past lives
Moyeseh is a good manager with low expectations.
Finally someone who understands or at least gets the movie
Most critics seem to be annoyed that the movie didn’t spoon feed them the “lore” or what politics is the good kind
Best movie i had watch and i dont usually watch love story movie, it is damn good! Totally different style from typical Hollywood movie. This is the kind of movie that somehow relate to our own experiences
Life… deep as the ocean full of feelings that Life byitself takes by the shore
This was so good
Beautiful beautiful and soulful movie.. so beautiful performed by the actors ❤❤ cried with her at the end
Hi. Just some rando’s opinion but maybe try different background music. The music in this video sounds like it’s part of some creepy horror story to me lol.
I love the filmography done
Hola disculpa por la molestia donde puedo ver la película? Gracias
I can relate to Nora I also moved and this was so deep I was crying on how relatable it was
I want to see this so bad but don’t know if I’m emotionally prepared. 😅😢😭
It’s SO good I hope you enjoy it
I was perfect!!!
PS: In the same vibe I'd also recommend a Japanese movie from 2023, called Kaibutsu (Monster).
I like you for who you are. you are someone who leaves.
But for him you are someone who stays
SOOOO good
Just loved it. Even more so the second time I watched it.
Such an amazing film!
Movie was good throughout the entire runtime , I was surprised at the ending because I expected a different outcome
I think everyone was hoping for something else and that's why it was so devastating, but real.
Why the hell is this spooky music on the video 😂
Everyone has someone like that.
Great Work !!! Loved this film ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
BAFFLING decision to set ‘The Face of Voldemort’ as the music to this video.
I cried my eyes out...so great!
It’s perfection!
Many thanks for your sensitivity and appreciation of this gorgeous movie.
It’s my number 1 film of 2023. It’s absolutely beautiful and deserves all of the recognition. And I know this film touched MANY who watched!
It's not that exceptional BUTT... I loved that they (all 3) were able to connect, realize and close 😊
That last scene. Just wow.
Literally all you can do is just sit there emotionless while watching that ending
I went to see this movie twice.
go to theatre’s instead of site thank you for your cooperation
LOL if you go to a theater now you’re most definitely not gonna see this movie
@@Cinespidey then what will you see
Wonderful film. Thanknyou
This movie just broke me into pieces
I cried just seeing the trailer
I couldn't stop crying at all. I knew what was going to happen .
Not the plot I expected, very refreshing. With that said, it did not need to be 2 hours long. Glad I watched it, felt like his visit allowed her to finally grieve the past without major disruption to her present.
What do you all believe in?
Fate or Free will?
Where can we watch this movie ?
I sat through end credits.
Yeah, it could make you immobile.
Just seen it for the second time its so good
Wrong song to use lol
Lmao understandable. Horror fan tendencies. Also, pause on that username lol
they did the kokrean guy dirty with the choice of outfit
It reminded me a tamil movie "96"
The trailer alone made me want to watch this movie so badly. Because of the limited release, I had to search for a cinema that played it in the original version, not dubbed like most foreign films here in Germany. Fortunately it was playing in a cinema not too far. I loved it. Wanna watch it again but unfortunately it’s not playing in the original version anymore. Sigh… I hope Netflix or Amazon picks it up so I can watch it again.
I did confirm !! This is great movies
Tween souls 🔥
Me too, but I didn't cry 😂
Totally agree. One of my favorite movies ever.
Another a24 masterpiece
@@Cinespidey A24 can't stop/won't stop! Talk To Me also quickly ascended to my top 5 horrors I think.
I loved talk to me but it wasn’t as horrifying to me as it was for a lot of other people. But then again my most frightening film is Smile 😂 that face could give me nightmares man
Hey bro, I'm a cinematographer and I just posted a short clip on my channel inspired by Past Lives It's amazing I'd love efor you to see it first@@Cinespidey
It was good. I cried
Bro, this movie was amazing

The boy have a chance to visit her in new york, he already effort to find her in 12 years why not try make effort to see her but , i didnt know he has gf that time and now the girl has already married bad timing i think they not meant to be.😢
I wanna go see it, is it worth it? ❤
Watch 2018 #Indian movie - "96" ❤❤❤.
Similar story & concept, but in the perspective of the male lead. Very sweet and emotional story. I'm sure u will love #96, even more than #PastLives
Up to a point i agree, but the 3rd part where they were in their 30's is sad because they are messing about bit now nora is a married woman . Hey sung is also wasting his time not moving on and having his own family.
The conversation at the bar in korean in front or the husband was such a betrayal
Yeah ME personally I’m not having a partner doing all that with another person 😂
this movie is so good..
One of the best this year for sure
This Movie is very Similar to Tamil film 96 this movie is elaborated version of that movie
🤔 I've always loved a good love story 🎥 🍿
tf is this backround music 💀
Where have I seen this actress before? She looks so familiar. Ugh…. This is going to keep me up all night 😭
I wish I could help but I honestly don’t recognize her in anything else lol
She played a friend Natasha Lyonne in Russian doll
Where is movie available for us to watch now?
123movies
Amazing movie by all standards
Most certainly!
"Fate did everything possible to bring them together and they just had to see if it works" I hope it's not too much of a spoiler to say this is actually not an accurate description of the movie. In fact, it's probably the complete opposite of that statement
Suggest me more movies like this please please please please please please!
Look up the movie shortcomings. I would say that is another film that will frustrate you alot but it flows very well.
Comrades, Almost a Love Story. Hongkong
This video reminded me of a guy friend i had who i knew liked me when i was in primary school 12 years old. He was a good friend. I pretended i didn't know he liked me. We went to the same school together in Secondary but things just go by we pretended to not be close. I don't know why. Until now he is still stuck in my head. I have a family of my own now. I hope he's doing fine now doing well with a family of his own. Haha i guess we didn't get to say our goodbye too.
Wishing you the best with your family!
@@Cinespidey hey thank you. You too 👍🏻
Y did u pretend not know?
@@shadowboxer2747 I don't know. When I was young I didn't know how to react when I know someone liked me . Hahaha.
I saw it in the movie theater three times. I’m a white American guy and I loved it. I now have a beautiful white Korean girlfriend. Life is wonderful. 😃👌🏻👍🏻
What is this music dawg
This movie was all about disrespecting the husband 😂😂
Yeah I’ll never understand how he went along with it 😂
@@CinespideyI think he understood Nora needed to talk about it.
It’s not a goodbye but see you later
Donde la puedo ver?
Tendrias que rentarlo en Apple TV, vudu o TH-cam TV
I was interested in seeing this movie.....what held me back....as a single asian guy still, is when she has married a gaijin, an american. I know this is popular among white guys and asian women, but wish asian women would give it some thought and consider a hardworking asian guy to date or marry one day.
I want to like this movie because it gets rave reviews but I can't get past the point that she's exploring this relationship while married. Her husband allows it but he clearly does so reluctantly. So it's okay for her to spend time with an old friend exploring her feelings while married? And then her husband sits next to them while they speak a language he doesn't understand? Seems disrespectful to the husband and marriage.
He understood cause he mentioned to her that he’s been learning a lot of her language. I think he accepted that this is something his wife needed to address so her childhood sweetheart can just finally let go. However, the movie kinda gives the feel that Nora somewhat felt the same way as Hae Sung but the insane part is that MANY people go thru this apparently. So even though we can’t relate or we see this as disrespectful, many people go thru these type of ‘closure’ situations in life.
Although I liked the movie a lot, I won't call it a masterpiece. The plot was predictable from the start I think from it feeling too real. Also it was just a little weird to me how all three times they linked up together, it was always the girl who cut things off completely out of the blue "because that's just how she is" apparently, gaslit the guy telling him he already had a girlfriend in China hence she married the American for a green card. Wasn't really fair to the guy, and somehow we're supposed to cry for her at the end of the movie? Yeah, nah. But it was a good movie regardless. 7.5/10
true. she selfish tbh. i dont feel bad for her. and at the end she said sorry to his husband. like getting an uber for 8 house away like why?
My guy, did we watch the same movie? What planet are you from?
