just swinging by to dispel this myth, adjusting at full tension WILL NOT damage knife edges. In fact, every floyd rose guitar you have ever touched has been adjusted at tension, because that is what they all do at the factory when setting up the guitar
I got one of these a while back and it's night and day better than the licenced bridge it replaced. I bought one for my brother to replace his floyd rose special as well
Stringing it with the ball end on the string is moot when you have locking tuners. Clip it off, lock the string into the bridge first, pull it through the tuner, just hand tight, lock the tuner, clip the excess, tune it up. No string wraps at all with locking tuners, it defeats the purpose. Love Gotoh trems though
@@TheJoeWentzProjectTV case in point, the micro-tuners are smaller on the Gotoh so I had thought about using Floyd Micro-tuners... nope. The steel on the bridge plate was so hard I couldn't even enlarge the threads to Floyd size. The saddles are also very smooth and easy on the hand with beveled and sloped edges. Love Floyd Rose's, but the Gotoh really deserves respect as a very high quality well thought out device as a tribute to what Mr Floyd created so long ago. 👍
Hay so just wondering could you tell me whitch one would fit i keep seeing 40 mm brass plate but for the floyd its a 37 i bought the krammer berrata too and kind of want to mod it and put a super distortion
@@OliverCarriere did you buy the Baretta Special? Or the Baretta (at one time called the Vintage Baretta)? Because my Vintage Baretta Special has a factory relief routed into the pocket where the springs go to clear the block on a Floyd Rose to handle deep dives so the 37 would work. I touted a Baretta Special to accomplish the same thing. The Kramer bodies are thicker like a Fender Strat
@@davespin9034well i bought the special i do belive but the closes i see is a 36 from gotoh and i just wanted to bulid up something nice im learning to play i love rock and blues but also like listing to metal and wanted to learn some whammy stuff but the one on the guitar does not hold the tune well and rather then buying one more expensive i thought i just upgrade it sounds nice i was going to also drop dizmaro super distoration
Thank you so much for watching and commenting on the video my friend!! I appreciate your kindness and God bless!! I’m glad the video helped you out…that’s what I was hoping to do. Thank you again!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻💯💯
I do not own any Gotoh Floyds but they are top notch 👍🏼 I have all German Floyd Rose on all my guitars but my Wolfgang Standard. I had a 1984 German Floyd Rose on there but I went back to the original Floyd Rose special, which is a crappy system in my opinion but I replaced it with German Floyd Rose saddles and stainless steel screws and we are good to go. Thanks for sharing this video bro ✊ Share the knowledge ‼️
Thank you so much brother, R2!! One of these days I hope to get a German Floyd Rose. All of the times I've checked, they're out of stock. Hopefully one day I'll get one. Thank you for commenting brother and I hope you have a wonderful day sir!! =\//-/=🤟🎶🎵🎸
Thank you for this video! I feel like I can go ahead and swap out mine on my own now. My only critique is not using the Gotoh inserts and studs. I'd sell those ones in the drawer. Someone will buy it.
Thank you so very much, Mark!! Yes sir…what I forgot to mention in this video is that, I upgraded the posts to higher quality posts. And they screw right into the inserts. You can find higher quality posts on Amazon, Sweetwater, etc. This is a huge deal with tuning stability. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!! 🙏🏻🎸🤘💯
I’ve been playing since the mid 90s and I had never had locking tuners on anything until I bought a Baretta special and wanted to upgrade the tuners so I bought a set of gotoh locking tuners and man I wonder why I didn’t get locking tuners sooner, my main guitar is a 95 ish RG550 with the edge lo pro (fantastic trem made by gotoh I think) and now I can’t wait to get a set of cosmo black for my RG . I think I’m going to get a 1996t for my Baretta special, I got it intending to mod it but was going to try to get it to stay in tune with the vintage style bridge, I’ve come to the conclusion that headstock is going to have tuning problems unless they are locked down at the nut . The RG is floating of course and I guess I need a decked trem on at least one guitar.
Yeah man, I totally understand where you're coming from. But I have to say, upgrading to a Gotoh Floyd Rose system will really improve your tuning stability. It's just better quality all the way around, without sacrificing too much cash. I appreciate you watching and commenting my friend. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!! 🎸 🎵💯🤘
@@TheJoeWentzProjectTV thanks man, I’d looked at some cheaper units and thought about upgrading the saddles but by the time you do that with a cheaper one you are nearly or over what a new 1996t would cost. I thought about buying a used FR2 and then putting stainless saddles on it, but a used fr2 is going to be 30 or 40 bucks and then saddles would be 50 so that’s 90 for another 15 that’s a new gotoh lol.
Yes sir, it should. Depending upon your guitar of course. But with my experience, if I removed a Floyd Rose Special, the upgraded Gotoh Floyd Rose has always went right in. You may need to upgrade the posts. Because more than likely, they’re the posts that came with the Floyd Rose Special system. Those posts are cheap metal. And therefore the unit will not hold its tuning. The posts that come with the Gotoh, are bigger. I always ordered the Floyd Rose 1000 posts from Amazon, and then you just unscrew the old ones out, and screw the new ones in. Get everything setup and you’re good to go. 🙏🏻🎸🤘
Hey my friend, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I got the locking tuners from Amazon. They are actually really good. Although I don’t recall the brand right now, they had excellent reviews. That was the deciding factor for which I purchased them. If you go on Amazon and type in “Guitar Locking Tuners” the first thing should be them. Oh wait..it just popped in my head. They’re “Guyker” locking tuners. Not sure if spelled that correctly. I hope you have a great day and Rock On!!🤘
Here are a few ones I can think of: Versatility in string gauge (not needing to change or recut the nut when you change string gauge), the ability to not only dive bomb downwards but upwards, fine tuning, tuning stability when dive bombing up or down. The strings can have nearly any angle past the not without having an effect on tuning stability. There are a few downsides to keep in mind as well. You have to cut the ball end off the string to lock it into the bridge. You have to adjust the spring tension or add springs when changing tuning or strings. As with all spring based tremolo's they add extra resonances to the guitar and must be muted with foam. The string locks at the nut will raise the pitch when tightened down. I think it's somewhere at or between 5-15 cents. I have like one guitar for every tuning I play mostly to have good intonation in that tuning.
Yes sir, the Gotoh Floyd Rose will fit. If the back screws are too long for the cavity, you can switch them out for some shorter ones. I've also had to do this. Not in every case, but I have had to switch out the rear saddle screws. The following link will allow you purchase the replacement screws. It comes with three types. The long rear saddle screws, front saddle screws and locking screws for the nut. The great thing about the replacement set, is that they are stainless steel. A fantastic upgrade, if you choose to do so. Hello my friend and thank you for watching and commenting. As far as your question is concerned, if your Ibanez is a "Jem Jr"...then yes it will be fine. I replaced the stock Ibanez Floyd, for a Gotoh on my Ibanez Jem Jr. and it was fine. I hope you have a wonderful day sir and keep rocking. 🎶🎵🤘🎸

I have a couple of Wolfgang standards I have a charvel san dimas and evh frankie not the most expensive one though, I've put 37mm floyd rose fat blocks in all those guitars I can tell a difference in sustain and I think they are brighter sounding to me as well , I leave that space off between the floyd and block though I think that's a tone sucker myself , but yeah I think the block mods work
