Thank goodness for our time machine: TH-cam. I could never pass the final stage of Stage IV with the pipes. Finally saw end thanks to you. Let down on game End.
Ah, today's generation of player will never really know the struggle of only have three lives and if you die start right from the beginning in most games. I had this game and I only got passed lvl. 1-2 once! These games were so damn hard!
ScyllaIo I born in 2006 and luckily my old neighbor had an SMS III with 101 games already in it and that was one of the games that I had. I classified this game on the "Shadow Dancer" level (Could never pass Shadow Dancer's 1st level boss mainly due to OHKO). Really hard.
Usually I got dusted trying to fly through the caves. There are several old Sega games I have never finished 30 years later, and often wondered if the game was so hard because there was no ending programmed, so the player could never finish it.
Younger people laugh at me and don't understand when I like older games such as these better. It ain't always about the graphics. Its about the story and structure of the game, the joy of getting better and better till you beat it.
AH OUAIS ! ! !
I used to complete this tough game. I remember one of my friend didn't believe me so we sat down and I played it through. He was gobsmacked and I was the king of Thunder Blade. I probably couldn't repeat this mastery after all those years.
Once completed,,, without switching the console off the rockets and rounds came out about 5x faster .. it took me and my brother weeks and weeks to master it ... salute to a fellow thunder blade champion ... 🎉
I'm REALLY impressed. Most of the time, when I see people playing a game like this, I can't help thinking I could do better. But not in this case. Hats off, this was some truly top-notch gameplay!! 👏👏👏
my dad was actually one of the graphics developers working on this game when i was practically a baby....my dad designed the shadow that follows the helicopter. At the time it was groundbreaking visual eye candy utilizing every drop of power from the master system. Our family is still living off the royalties from his contribution with the helicopter shadow.
Oh. I didn’t know I could just place my helicopter lowest of the screen to avoid those pipes. I memorised all the pipe positions. 😆. Greta job there, brings back Memories
What trouble I had to finish this game, it was torture, my left thumb hurt from pressing hard on the directional pad. But what a pleasure to have succeeded! When I was a child I didn't go far.
I borrowed this from my neighbor, in the 80's -- Like how they just drop you in some hell fire on the last boss. The old 8bit games were way harder than todays games.
I used to play this game mostly around ages 6-8... The furthest I ever made it was around the 13:00 minute mark of this video. It was a challenging game!
This is a very challenging game.. I had the Game Gear, the portable console, and I had the similar G-Lock, which instead of helicopter, he had a fighter jet to fight with.
I beat this game back in 88 or 89 can't really recall it really, but beating this tough game was a accomplishment.... until you played mission impossible on the nes and you fought the ninja on the breakaway floor
I still have a SMS, probably one of the few to have one. Only 2 other people I met as a kid had one, and one of them was my friend. I never had this game, but my friend had it.
When I was a kid, I thought I was the man when I was able to get through the cave and the pillars. This game is really hard to play as a Rom on the laptop and the sound isn't the same.
The real weakness of the consoles like Master System and Mega Drive was that you could not save the game!!Imagine playing a long and really hard game like this one, to reach the 3rd stage and have to restart from the very beginning!!I loved this game..The problem back then is that the sega cartidges were too expensive..So Master System was my primary console for 4 years and I had only 6 titles!!!But now all Sega stuff are available to download for free!!!
This game has a legendary wings kind of vibe. If only the developers and executives had acquired actual game companies such as capcom and konami to have a more programmers to unleash the full power of where it could have gone to.
wow this looks.... good! its too bad the sega genesis didnt have hardware scaling back then, else games like this woulda been much better. but this, for 8bit, is nice. i think i might prefer this over the genesis version. i've only ever played a few handfuls of SMS games back then, because of course nintendo basically owned the US game market back then.. but i would have liked this back then.
that ending never seen it lv2 but good memories this game come home from school master system alex kidd or thunder blade and outrun but like alot games era got thru lv2 then died you go back beginning no pause real time something miss in 2019 ps4
Agreed. Even Dark Souls has to take the back seat to games like Thunder Blade when it comes to difficulty. I also never made it past the Swamp level. I played an emulator version on PC recently which allowed saving, and even then I couldn't get passed it!! Games these days have ruined our skill.
lordjohnson48 Another Swamp orphan here brothers. I remember getting my Sega Master System for Christmas 1988, along with Wonder Boy, Afterburner and Out Run. Hang On was on a card back then. With some Christmas money I managed to get Space Harrier and Thunder Blade from a local Woolworths for £35 in a Christmas sale. I loved all these games but never ever completed Thunder Blade.
And the number ONE of older games still are GREAT is easy to know , no need for online games to have GREAT FUN! Solo games is by far still the best , look this game means Dexterity, have a Hunter eye ... , I would so love this game being remade with harder levels and so goes for Black Dawn a game from Psx . Instead to make kiddos games like pet story, angry birds, laughing out loud , give us real games!!!!
I was feeling pretty good about this game until I reached the second stage and the view changed to a 3D perspective. This stage reminded me of Colecovision's Turbo. The choppy animation looks terrible. It's hard to tell what's going on, and you end up flying in circles while shooting ahead blindly.
I got shot down so many times by those tanks and choppers is not even funny. The farthest I made it to is that space shuttle thing above the clouds. That's it. LOL
I love this game and most of older games . Those games nowadays are made for lazy people that can't even resolve a puzzle of two pieces . Give me a game to stay awake such as thunder blade , not like sh*t like Call of Duty or all those modern wars wish are boring
There is only TWO negative things to say about classic and new generation games is still NO impovement in ennemies they still comes from the same spot and last alot games such as Medal of Honor, Call of Duty etc..... Has NO free exploration like World of Warcraft when will game evolve those way.
Thank goodness for our time machine: TH-cam. I could never pass the final stage of Stage IV with the pipes. Finally saw end thanks to you. Let down on game End.
This, Shinobi and Rambo were big favorites of my Dad's and myself..... but thanks to you Mom for get me the Master System....❤ you both oh so much!!!!
I really appreciate my mother giving me this back in the days.
Never finished this game as a child. This video brings me closure and peace to my mind. Thank you!

Same here, have had this game for 27 years.. never past 1-2....
@ironmike southern wow really?!
Usually I got dusted trying to fly through the caves.

😆😆 awesome!
Impressive! I always got stuck in the 3d jungle level (i believe ppl call it the swamp level). Never saw the purple level in my life!
It’s incredible how this 8 bit version is more arcade accurate than the lame genesis 16 bit version!
Amazing gameplay, this is one of the hardest games on master system!
my dad was actually one of the graphics developers working on this game when i was practically a baby....my dad designed the shadow that follows the helicopter. At the time it was groundbreaking visual eye candy utilizing every drop of power from the master system. Our family is still living off the royalties from his contribution with the helicopter shadow.
Some cool, daring 3D from the SMS. I remember raging as I could never see the later levels. Thank you.
my First video game I played when I was 4 years old. I haven't played more than 3-2. It was too difficult for me as a child
Man this video brings back some memories for me! I need to play this game again.
Blimey this brings back memories
Loved this game. River level was my undoing
Man, I still play this on my Sega. Its still hard, but way better than the Genesis version.
Oh. I didn’t know I could just place my helicopter lowest of the screen to avoid those pipes. I memorised all the pipe positions. 😆. Greta job there, brings back Memories
Never finished this game now I see I went to the last level. So I got myself this game and this time I'm gonna finish what I started
Great music, sound effects. Hard AS BALLS after level 3-1
I liked so much this front screen. It looked so real back then
cool game.. I never could beat it, but still had fun playing.
I loved this game
Ah que j'en ai passé du temps sur ce jeu :)
What trouble I had to finish this game, it was torture, my left thumb hurt from pressing hard on the directional pad. But what a pleasure to have succeeded! When I was a child I didn't go far.
That was amazing. I rented that game a few times, and I think I may have passed level 2 once. Brutally hard.
Ok that was some amazing gameplay, I used to be able to do this when I was 7 or 8 but now I am 21 and the first stage gives me trouble!
I borrowed this from my neighbor, in the 80's -- Like how they just drop you in some hell fire on the last boss. The old 8bit games were way harder than todays games.
This game was ahead of it's time. I couldn't even beat it. My highest level at the time was the 3rd boss.
Brilliant game from days of old.
Thanks for the long play.
I used to play this game mostly around ages 6-8... The furthest I ever made it was around the 13:00 minute mark of this video. It was a challenging game!
These games were designed for men, not for kids, love it!!
Eu so jogava esse jogo:)
7:30 I could never beat stage 2-2 as a kid... These tunnels were crazy
Better then the Mega Drive version!
Megadrive adds consequence to momentum trying to make it more of a simulator while the Mastersystem controls more instantly like pacman.
Most people seem to prefer Choplifter for the Master System, but I've always favored Thunderblade.
This is a very challenging game..
I had the Game Gear, the portable console, and I had the similar G-Lock, which instead of helicopter, he had a fighter jet to fight with.
I'm here just for stage 1's music. I love it!
This type of thing is a lot more fun in real life

Never had this one, the graphics are rich, very good detail. They made some awesome games for the SMS.
This was pretty good on SMS bitd :-)
Obviously not arcade perfect but still brilliant.
Excelente jogo.
When I was a kid, I thought I was the man when I was able to get through the cave and the pillars. This game is really hard to play as a Rom on the laptop and the sound isn't the same.
Pretty good music. :)
Nossa, o cara é profissional nesse jogo😱😱😱
me ajudem a chega a 1M d inscritos Strokasilva não só nesse
@Roger Wilker apelão vc que dezer?👍
@Roger Wilker Nunca consegui zerar esse jogo

Sure was ballzy for 8bit 💪🏽
This game has a legendary wings kind of vibe. If only the developers and executives had acquired actual game companies such as capcom and konami to have a more programmers to unleash the full power of where it could have gone to.
Have you seen the arcade version of this game?
Blue thunder is my helicopter favorito

Thunder Blade? I love Thunder Blade!
Thank you! I loved this game as a kid. ... those horrible graphics though..@ 10:42 .. how did they even dare to release this glitchy stage :D :D
that ending never seen it lv2 but good memories this game come home from school master system alex kidd or thunder blade and outrun but like alot games era got thru lv2 then died you go back beginning no pause real time something miss in 2019 ps4
I preferred this to the megadrive version
Now this shit was hard af back in the day.
I remember I couldn't finish the second level when I was a kid, no matter how hard I tried.
FAR better than the Megadrive version
This games awesome and hard as fux. Sega Master sys was better than Nintendo. But I could never get past the Swamp level.

Neither could I as a kid, it was the planes that shot horizontally that really screwed me over.
This game really made the ms look great! Now if only the sega cd had actual games just with better music like the PlayStation
This game was such a big deal when it came out.. was like Space Harrier and Chop Lifter all mixed together with a splash of AfterBurner
How is this being recorded? The ROM sounds different to the original version.
Never got past the 3rd level. That ending though... sad.
Still better than shinobi ending
Sunsets r cool

Bom jogo. Thau
If If buy Mega Drive(Genesis) or Master System, do they come with this game? Or, should I buy a separate cartridge?
I got shot down so many times by those tanks and choppers is not even funny. The farthest I made it to is that space shuttle thing above the clouds. That's it. LOL
I could never even get 1/2 way through this game as a kid. Didnt beat it until laast week and had to use an emulator with save states.
Hey I use to play this game with my brother cj on the Sega Master System
@pokemaniak30 erm, maybe because it's the name of the blue chopper?
To play this game, is the player using a joy stick? If yes, what brand and model?
16:37 MASTER you stop moving yer F"ED
OMG... This game was too hard, I never passed the jungle... LOL...
un jeu vidéo de Proust !
@kismikola then why is the helicopter named thunderblade and not thundercopter?
i felt incredibly uncomfortable playing this game as a kid, especially the game over screen lol. i think it's the dissonant music that really does it.
@xXRShelperXx Strange that it fits...lol
why is the game named thunderblade, isn't it about helicopters?
Rocky balboa speech
true people watch in 1911
Bon joc, bonic, entretingut pero molt difícil.
the top down view was a big disappointment from me as the zx spectrum could do it. cmon sega
@pokemaniak30 'cause it's sounds like a children's play
@kismikola nuh-uh
Very hard game. I beat the Mega drive version
I love this game and most of older games . Those games nowadays are made for lazy people that can't even resolve a puzzle of two pieces . Give me a game to stay awake such as thunder blade , not like sh*t like Call of Duty or all those modern wars wish are boring
