Its pretty impressive how much better 3-bit color quality (Master System) looks than 2-bit color quality (NES). The extra bit doubles the colors per tile, 8 colors compared to 4. The SNES and Genesis used 4-bit color, which was yet another doubled improvement but didn't stand out as much.

When I was playing at this game, I have never reached to beat Drago without doing 7 hit/sec at the second training. You just show me that it is possible with only 5! 👍
Why is Micky at ringside for the Clubber fights? He had a heart attack before the First fight and was dead by the Second time they fought. He even managed to stick around for a training stage before the Drago fight in this game. lol
The key to beating Drago was getting top scores in all the early training especially the clubber training if you get above 4 per second you will only throw two jabs before the power shot instead of 3 and in the Drago training you want to get at Least 90 to 100 punches and then go to his body then go up to the head on the power shot. But you have to time it well and have perfect distance.
Correct! The training for Lang I could get it to 7 per second which is insane! I played until I wore my fingers to the bone and built the speed with my hands to do it. The Drago training you only needed 80 punches if you could get 6 per second or higher with the Lang training. You would be able to throw two jabs before power shot and if countering a punch you could throw one jab and power shot just like Drago does! It's an unlock they don't tell you. Drago would only last 3 rounds he would be a walk in the park.

Wow!!! This takes me back! We always had fun playing this game. My friend had the master system and i jad the NES. It was like going to the arcade during sleep overs. We always wished that you could pick the other fighters to play. Out dream fight was Drago vs Clubber!!!
@@MrJjburgess11 I was always a Sega boy myself, but I didn't think it was graphically superior at the time, even if some titles looked better than ohers. Some games looked really bad on the SMS, but when it came to the selection there was no competition in my book. It made the NES feel like a children's toy, and since Sega was fairly well marketed in my country, I would never notice that one of the consoles had more games than the others. Miss those times. :)
The 80's were the greatest decade. i remember all the music, sfx, gameplay of this game like it was yesterday. When I played I was just a kid, I think somewhere between 5 and 7. It took me forever to learn how to beat Clubber Lang - you either needed the Turbo controller attachment (so that you could get maximum speed on the bag), or if you didn't have the Turbo device, you had to focus all your attack on Lang's body and just aim low...let him come to you, corner you and just aim low and hope you can chip away at him enough to bring his health all the way down. Even with Turbo, you have to keep hitting the body. I found the Turbo connector one day, not even realizing I had it, and I was finally able to beat this game (though Drago was still a beast). Otherwise that speed bag training was excruciatingly painful on the wrist and knuckles. I could never even get to Qualify speed unless I had the Turbo. The instruction manual was also incorrect - it stated you could instantly do the power punches (Straight, Upper Cut, Body Straight) by holding a specific direction in conjunction with the attack button, but that didn't actually work.
I would always knock him down at least twice per round, but after the 5th round, if Drago hits you once, you go down. I never beat him. This was satisfying.
I love how you only win the world championship after beating Drago. Rocky was already the champion before he even knew Drago existed and they even specifically said in Rocky 4 that his Russia fight with drago was not a sanctioned fight for the belt and there was no money in it. All Rocky won from that fight was revenge for Apollo, permanent brain damage and chapter 13 bankruptcy courtesy of a crooked accountant who conned him into signing over full power of attorney in exchange for one of those wooden paddles with a rubber band and a ball stapled to the front of it.
Drago can be knocked out within 2 rounds, if your speed reaches a 6 in the speed bag training. Rocky's jabs become super quick and you get inside and destroy Clubber and Drago when you stand toe-to-toe against them.
These were the days. I remember my friend got a Genesis before anyone else I knew, and I would be foaming at the mouth to get over there to play Rocky, Bulls vs Lakers and, of course, Altered beast.

George Daniel Yeah it could of been much better. More fighters would of been great. Plus the 2 player mode was limited on who could fight who. Rocky had to be in every fight. I wanted a Drago v's Clubber fight, or even both players having the same fighter for a fair fight.

The graphics looked good for the time.
Superb graphics for a Master System game especially the title and the training between fights. Rocky even kinda looks like Kenshiro from Fist of the north Star in the first training mini game.
I remember this game when i was a kid. Second training is most crucial for beating drago. Get 5 hits per sec then hes a cinch to beat. Third training wasnt even needed.
Ahh, I never knew the training made any difference. I'd always thought it was there just for some variety. Never did beat Drago. In 2 player whoever goes Drago will always win because of his massive reach.
"If I can change,..then you can change....EVERYBODY CAN CHANGE!!" - Nintendo
This ain’t Nintendo
@@sliat1981 I know that. The point being is that the reason Nintendo is still around and doing well is because they`ve changed with the times. Sega on the other hand...
@@criticalbill2090 sega on the other hand is doing fine. They still publish great games and do arcade games. Nintendo had a massive flop with their follow up to Wii
Always bothered me that when Lang went down he was suddenly wearing blue shorts.
love this music! i wonder who composed it?
Bill Conti’s pet hamster
Rocky at the end looks like Rikki from Black Belt.. 😂😂😂 Great job Bro!
This game is underappreciated!
Well done! This is how I beat Drago as a kid. No cheater's controller
I can’t believe this is an 8bit game, this way ahead of its time.
Man drago was impossible to beat, finally got a chance to see him get his
You just had to time it..don't buttin bash..And do well in training
In the accuracy training, Mick’s face looks like Rock missed the pads a couple of times.
I read your comment right before watching the accuracy training, I thank you for a great laugh....
"The End" with a man and a woman kissing. I want 80's back.
I remember thinking how irritating Ivan Drago's cornermen were he came back like brand new every round. Had to TKO him. Also loved the fairly subtle trunks detail, you beat Apollo Creed and he lets you wear his colours like the movie. This game was worth it's asking price, 3 fighters or not.
The end gives me Rocky Balboa vibes. Yo, Adrian, we did it. We did it.
Best Master System game!
My brother used to get knuckle dusted by Drago until he got a controller that had a turbo setting on it. Then he broke drago with the jab
this game would have been better if they added other fighters to make it longer....I know its based on the movie...Sega was so much better then nintendo when it came to graphics.
gameplay wise, this game sucked tho. Compared to punchout which is still playable today...
George Daniel Yeah it could of been much better. More fighters would of been great. Plus the 2 player mode was limited on who could fight who. Rocky had to be in every fight. I wanted a Drago v's Clubber fight, or even both players having the same fighter for a fair fight.
Ya until supernes
They should have at least made him fight Apollo again(different ring, trunks, etc) and he was better than the first time.
I love the big sprites in this game!
I used to wear my fingers to the Bone and still got my ass kicked by Drago. But I was able to beat him with a turbo controller. Oh how sweet it was to get revenge for 8 yes old me.
Man those games were hard as fuck
Possibly the greatest ending in video game history
Great ending yes but I would have to say Metal Gear Solid had a great ending and possibly better. The intro was great also with snake swimming in and the opera music playing.
No shinobi is the best lol
Wow! I think it was for the better that AVGN stopped at Clubber Lang because that Ivan Drago just would not go down. Damn, seven rounds.
Tive um master sistema 3 eu adorava 😍
I first found out about this game from the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of it back in late 2006. I'm sure a lot of you have, too.
How did i miss playing this years ago? Damn
