    I've had a large variety.
    Zero turn : bad ride, fast job.
    Lawn Tractor : decent ride, slow job
    Tractor with deck : good ride, slow job. Changing out attachments is annoying.
    Tractor with 3 point mower: good ride, no dust in face, pain in neck, missed a lot of spots due to tail swing. Great and mowing under things.
    I don't have a favorite. Everything is a compromise.

      Thanks for watching! I totally agree with your analysis. I mowed with a King Kutter 5' mower behind the Ford 8N for years. It worked great. But even though changing out implements isn't that bad, I always found myself either not wanting to take the mower off "just to put on the back blade" or not wanting to put the mower back on because I would be needing the 3-point hitch for something else soon. It's nice to have a piece of equipment dedicated to JUST mowing.

    here i am on a sunday morning watching Chad wanna take me for a ride on his big green tractor or should i say red 😊😊we got the farmall in red and ford in blue here love those little workhorses. we also got a few Husqvarna mowers, one zero turn the other is a rider/garden tractor we use mostly when it starts cooling off for fall cleanup, keep the good content coming my friend. the weather here in southwest MI has been hot and dry praying for rain but nothing in the forecast for the next week we already been over 2 weeks with no rain.

      Thanks for spending some of your Sunday morning watching our video! This was a long one. :)
      I like them all also. It could easily become an addiction. There's probably a psychological name for it - addicted to tractors.

    I have the Exmark Radius which is just like your Toro. I also have a JD walk behind. Both have 48 inch decks and the JD cuts a lot better. We use both to do our lawn. JD for the close stuff along the stream and the steep parts. Changing the oil filter on the Toro/Exmark is a mess. You also forgot to mention on the zero turn you can put a small cooler between your feet for a 6 pack of beer to stay hydrated while you cut the lawn. lol As for cutting a few flowers? Sounds like you are getting another T-Shirt. Great review and the size of ones property is a very big variable as to what you need to get the job done.

      I think my next shirt for the flower cutting exercise may have to be a Kramerica industries shirt. :)
      Interesting that your Deere cuts better than the Exmark. I would have guessed that the blade tip speed on the Exmark would make a better cut. Thanks for sharing!
      And for the oil change on our Toro - draining the oil out that tube is easy and convenient. But you're 100% spot on about removing the filter - oil everywhere.

    Two things I wish they would put on mowers today are: An Amp Gauge and a Fuel Gauge. I like to know how much gas I have, and I like to know how my battery/charging system is doing. In the old days, I know they used to put amp and fuel gauges on them. My grandpa's old mower had an amp gauge and a built in fuel gauge on the gas cap. I guess it would be too expensive, so they stop putting them on there. But for the prices nowadays, they could start doing it again. 😊 I own a Husqavarna YTA19K42 that I bought in 2013. (2013 model year as well) It's an OK mower, but in recent years I've developed an oil leak around the valve cover and I seem to go through a lot of batteries even though I keep them charged. I've been considering buying a new one for that reason, but money has been a little tight lately. Thanks for sharing, Chad! Very helpful information!

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right! All the older Cub Cadet and Gravely machines I mowed on had amp gauges and the fuel caps with the float in side and the fuel dial on the top. Those are simple things that do give you valuable information while you're working with the machinery. And it wouldn't cost much more to add them to these newer machines. I bet the additions would even allow you to market the benefits of those features and increase sales because those would be differentiators between the tractor and it's competition. Thanks for watching!

    You can put a 48" deck on an X300. Also, the X304 is available with four wheel steering.

      I mowed for my uncle for a while - using his 4-wheel steering John Deere. It was a tight turn for sure -but I noticed that it would lean down on the inside of the turn and make an uneven cut. Maybe it just needed adjusted?

    I just bought an electric zero turn and just did the maiden mow tonight, and some homestead chores towing feed and hay with it yesterday and today. I can't believe how quiet the electric is, finished my mow and had plenty of charge left. It is velvety smooth at the controls compared to my gas power zero turn. We will see how well the batteries hold up, but so far I am very impressed. Loving the electric zero turn.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the info. I was wondering how those new electric zero turn mowers would do as far as helping with the chores (in addition to mowing). Sounds like they've really come a long way since the initial ones were released. What brand/model did you get?

      @@PurpleCollarLife My needs on the mower side are fairly small so I am only mowing like 1.5 acres so I went with the most affordable consumer version of the Greenworks 60v at Tractor Supply. I had bought a Greenworks push/self propelled mower for doing edging and it was just so convenient that it really had me thinking about the zero turn. I see some Greenworks dealers are offering the same price for a prosumer model for the same price and same finance terms right now. I think those are 80v or 82v batteries in those prosumer models. I did look to see they are now selling commercial versions as well that are pretty impressive, but the price tags on these things are still pretty high. So there may be better deals than what Tractor Supply has, but for a consumer mower it is good for my needs. Admittedly I am not mowing as much as you are it sounds like.
      I was surprised at how well the zero turn electric pulled the gorilla cart wagon. I hoped that would work. The key I think is not having a lot of tongue weight on the mower hitch and it didn't seem to blink. Pretty happy with the way that is working out.
      I have a commercial zero turn gas mower that is just overkill for what I need. I have so many small spaces to get into the wider deck wasn't helping me as much as I thought it would. The wide deck is great for the open space mowing for sure. I had visions of mowing a much bigger area with it on my farm, but the ground is too rough for that application so the tractor and bush hog still get those chores when needed.
      I think the wild card is the longevity of the batteries. The mower itself is very much up to the work. So now time will tell how the batteries hold up. I am going to pick up a few extra batteries just to have backups. They just pop out of the mower and can be swapped. I see some of the brands like EGO has it so you can just plug in the mower and leave the batteries in there. That might be nice during the summer months when your going to be running it all the time. But as it gets colder I would want to be able to bring those batteries in where I can keep them warm. There are a lot of electric options out there now. My push mowers were the gateway drug to the electrics, and I am hoping the zero turn works out as well.

    I personally would say keep both in my words I've got a 2003 cub cadet LT2180 lawn tractor shaft driven with a tiller attachment and had a cub cadet RTZ 42" cut and there nice and all but they both cut nice but pricey on one of them

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the "keep both" philosophy! I think there is a time for each type. And - it's always good to have backup mower. :)

      Hi Dave. Yes, it did take some time editing this longer video. Jennifer kept asking "I wonder why my flowers aren't coming up this year." And I said, "Which ones?" She let me know she was talking about the ones "by the tree". I had no idea there were perennials planted there. Now I know. AND she got some additional flowers to put in some decorative barrels (so that I can't mow them over). :)

    That Kubota has to be the cheapest I've ever seen. I have a 1990 Kubota G5200 Diesel with a 48 inch deck, all hydraulic with hydraulic steering. Moves right along and I love the hydrostatic transmission. It blows away that JD and would give the Toro zero turn for the money!

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a homeowner grade lawn mower by Kubota. I wouldn’t compare it to a compact tractor or a commercial mower by Kubota. Sounds like the G5200 diesel is a bit bigger machine. Certainly the hydraulic steering would be nice!
