Hello, I have 2014 Hyundai i20, after cleaning the throttle body, engine running rough, revving high and increased throttle response and car run on it's own when I put to drive. Please help.
A tick and a knock are VERY different things, if you dont describe the problem correctly it's really hard to tell what's going on. A little ticking is normal for this engine, ANY knocking is not ok at all.
Normal issue with 4 cylinder. Dont fix it unless broken buddy. My brothers elantra has same engine with 200K miles. Been ticking for a long time at start up. It normal. Leave it alone dude. Wasting your time!!
My 2010 elantra does the same .I tried castro 5w30. It still is noisy on a cold start up,. But i think the noise is coming from the bottom end. I only have 82,000 kms.. I might triy some Lucas top end lube, or a thicker oil 10w30 for the summer. Most engines should not tick that much . They have hydraulic lifters, that self adjust, not like the old days when they had solid lifters. Try some upper valve lube , that might help.
I have seen engines tick for thousands and thousands of miles and never have a issue. I have also seen people try to fix the issue only to make things worse. If its not affecting you in any way but a lil noise best leave alone. Its like the customer who complains about squeaky brakes. Brakes have to stop a giant hunk of metal they will make noise sometimes. I bought a motorcycle once that was actually knocking. Not ticking but knocking for $400. Very nice super bike. Honda CBR 1000cc. The guy said he gave it a tune up and drove it home. Then the engine started knocking. He stated he was driving fast so assumed he blew it up. 99% of people would think the same. Not me I bought the bike got it home and started my diagnosis. The issue was two of his spark plugs had came loose and the engine was missing so bad it was knocking. Unburnt gas was hitting the exhaust making it worse. I tightened the plugs and had a $5000 bike. I drove it for 6 months and went ahead and make $4600 off of it. I have 3 ATVs right now worth $3000 or $4000 together. I bought them for less than $500. The issues were all electrical that someone else couldn't fix or didn't want to spend the money to fix. Electrical issues are tricky and it took me about 3 hours on each to rewire things and track down issues but it can be done. Dont be scared to buy that nice broke down ride. Sometimes its a simple repair.
I know someone who started using Mobile1 Full Synthetic 5W-20 oil mixed with a little Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer and a Dealer Oil Filter. After a couple of months of driving the ticking/knocking noise dramatically reduced. He also used Lucas Upper Cylinder Fuel Lubricant.
which is common place with engine function/care with all cars....................o wait bc at the end of the day the point is to promote engine life and mpg through duration of use/ownership. Hyndai cant even make good on that
Maybe even a gentle engine flush. Something that is OK to leave in. Something slow acting like Hotshots Secret Stiction Eliminator maybe. It can be used in gasoline or Diesel engines. It is somewhat expensive at around $25 for a quart. It also has their friction reducer in it. They guarantee it in that they will refund you if you are not happy with it for some reason. Just make sure to still have a receipt for it and maybe even be ready to send the remaining product back. In my opinion you might not find yourself sending it back. It works really and there are many people who would say similar things. I do not sell their products or have any connection with them. I just tried their stuff and it worked for me. My vehicle is a Nissan and does not have any ticking problems and I should point out your luck may vary. You don't need to have a high mileage engine to use anything like this BTW. In fact on a high mileage engine you may see leaks. That is because the stuff it cleans out may have been the only thing plugging leaks in the gaskets. It is the reason why some people might tell you not to use a synthetic oil. There was also a time when synthetic oils were thought to cause leaks. The products I mentioned not only contain a friction reducer made by that company but they use synthetic base stocks and additives in their oils and other products. I would love to have a vehicle that never had anything like that in it and let a friend take it for a ride and then quietly put that in it without telling him. This is a good way to test whether it seems to do anything and without him having any knowledge that you used something in it that would eliminate the placebo effect. The idea is that if they know there is something there they will have an expectation of improvement or maybe even think that there was one. The idea is they don't know anything except what they may notice when they operate the vehicle. When you see him next ask if he noticed any difference between that trip and the ones before it, then you reveal what you did to your vehicle. This is a good way to prove that not all additives are snake oil to the cynics and skeptics. They may be cynical from all the money they wasted trying other products that did not perform as well as they would expect.
I’ve got a 2012 Hyundai Elantra I bought new. Drive it 110 miles round trip to work every day. Mine has a little ticking to it at startup. But I’ve got 235K miles on it, and runs great. I change the oil every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W 20/high mileage, and use the more expensive K&N oil filter. Only replaced the battery and plugs. Same brake pads and everything else! Maybe I should run 5W 30. I like the car and gonna try and get at least 300-500K on it.
had the same issue with my 14 elantra at about 80k miles. Took it to numerous shops and they told me it was fine. Finally to it to the dealership and they replaced the lower engine block under 100k mile warranty. It took about 2.5 months to get fixed. The knocking is gone but now there's a noise on exceleration every once in a while. Fortunately my car is damn near paid off. Ill be getting rid of it soon
I have the same problem, just add a can of oil additives (STP high milage oil treatment) for 5 dollars. You won't hear a tick after that. Being doing this forever now.
My 2016-2017 accent both do this cold as soon as they motors get to just over 1000 rpm it goes away ! Bought both on the same day both new in February 2017 ! As the closer you get to your 5000km oil change it gets louder ! My next oil change I will be switching to 5w30 I have been thinking 5w20 is to light! Only reason I haven’t switched yet is because I got 2 years of free oil changes ! Also both cars have 150000 km 8 year power train warranty! Always keep oil clean it’s the best thing you can do ! My father bought a 1992 ford ranger with 250000 Kms for 1500 bucks my father changed the oil every 4000kms and in the summer he ran diesel oil in it and the winter he would switch back to 10w30 and that truck ran with no problems for over the 15 years for him only thing he did was a few water pumps exhaust and brake pads ! The frame and body rusted out and the motor was still running at 890000 kms when we took it to the scrap yard ! Best 1500 bucks he ever spent lol !
In 44 years of driving and car ownership, I've never had dirty oil like that in my engine. I change it at 3000, To 4000, miles, never more than that. All ran on castrol Gtx, 10 30. I've had engines near 400.000 miles. No problems or issues, they were still running great. And sounding perfectly fine. I have 337.000 miles now on my 94 trans am, lt1 engine. Bought it new. Engine never been touched runs great, sounds great.
Question, we just paid 9k to get our 2017 elantras engine replaced 2 days later the engine overheats. We took it back they said one of the hoses was loose and the coolant was leaking out. So they said they fixed it ran all sorts tests and everything is good. Well 1 week later then engine has overheated again. My husband is on side of road waiting for a tow. I am absolutely angry with Hyundai. What do you think it is?
I had the knock on my 2013 Veloster 1.6. I switched to 5w-30 and it also helped. I also used an STP extended life oil filter and installed a catch can. After 1000 miles mile oil is not black. Hyundai uses 5w-20 for mileage but it is bad for the engines. 5w-30 in winter and use 10w-30 in the summer. good video!
I totally agree with you, same weighs I use. Hyundai isn't the only manufacturer doing the 5 at 20 thing. They are ALL doing it. Also. My 17 Elantra owner's manual says 5 wt 30 MAY ALSO be used. So there is no issue with that .
What would make gas consumption higher all the sudden not accurate with mileage all the sudden. I always got great gas mileage but it’s dropping on digital readings quicker than normal? Any feedback appreciated 2016 Hyundai Elantra
Wanted to add that piston slap at least where I live describes when the pistons rock back and forth in the bore when the engine is cold. Not when you have a piston pin worn and it's making a noise. A lot of inline 6-cylinder 4-L Jeep engines suffer from piston slap when they're cold. other people have mentioned this but there may be a warranty claim available through Hyundai on this problem. Other people have mentioned they are replacing engines regardless of the year or mileage or whether you're the first owner or not.
I have the 2013 and had this noise , after doing this with these products, it's quiet now, whole different car, Thanks for sharing this knowledge, btw did the transaxle change with max life Valvoline atf at ninety thousand, car shifts like a dream ...replaced the engine air filter...this car is getting 45 to 47 mpg highway average ..runs great..
If you had one of those funnels with the mesh in the end of it that would catch anything you may want to see. Also if the oil is really bad it may clog that mesh some so make sure to have a place where you can leave it drain into the bottle. That would be a place out of the way where you won't forget and accidentally knock it over. It may pass through the funnel quick enough that it would not be that problem. The funnel I am thinking of is probably something that would be sold for filling hydraulic fluid. Someone with expensive equipment who doesn't want dirt getting into his machines would be likely to use a funnel like this. You could also use a funnel like that to put oil in your car or truck engine if it fits in the fill hole. These are a big funnel too and look like they could hold nearly a quart of oil but that oil won't be in there long enough for it to fill unless you like pouring it fast. I would recommend some sort of slow acting gentle engine flush you can leave in until the next change and maybe change the filter part way through. There is a comment by me in here somewhere about a product I like. I have no idea if you will like it or not. Why is that you may wonder? It is simply that everyone is different. Also there is a chance that it might not help this ticking sound. I doubt that it would make it worse but you never know. I would never guarantee it not to cause a new problem. It is something that you would use more for preventative maintenance. I also can't guarantee it because if it is a worn out or broken part causing it that will not magically repair it.
My sonata has a knock also it’s 2015 but it has 130000 miles and it’s been knocking like that for last 30k miles I’ve asked a few mechanics and nobody seems to know but when you’re driving at hire rpm or even when you’re standing still and give some gas after about 1000 rpm then I don’t hear it no more but when you stay at a light you hear it even when the engine is warm
I have a 2013 Elantra that I bought new. It has 80k on the clock now. I change oil every 4k with full synthetic (Pennzoil Pure One 5w20). The first 20k I ran a synthetic blend and near the end of the 4K interval I occasionally could hear a similar noise when cold. Have not hear it since switching to full synthetic oil.
YES! Sounds just like my car! I'm so far over in mileage for the lawsuit, I'm outta luck. I can't sell her like this. To the junkyard in a few more months. It's a shame too, the rest of the car is in fantastic shape.
A slight tick is completely normal for this engine. As is gets broke in it will have a slight tick especially when the engine is really cold like in the winter. It is the lifters on this car, not piston slap. They are louder than on some cars. If you develop a real knocking like from a bad piston you will hear it cause it will be loud as hell. You won't be able to hear yourself think. Take it to any authorised dealer that knows all about the particular engine. They will tell you the same thing. Even some seasoned mechanics have to ask for help from time to time. Also use only Hyundai OEM oil filters. Other ones make the ticking louder.
somebody correct me if i am wrong but that car does not have lifters its a overhead cam so when the camshaft turns the lobes on the cam push directly onto rockers that push the valves open and on the down side of the lobe it closes the valves.i have seen many used cars with a engine knock and some people trying to get rid of it run a really heavy oil to try and mute the noise..also a different oil filter will have nothing to do with engine noise unless you forgot to put a new one on and ran out of oil in 30 seconds...it sounds like it has a bent valves or worse
These cars as most overhead cam engines have hydraulic lifters. Very few overhead cam engines have solid lifters most notably older Hondas thus they require periodic valve adjustments. And this noise is lifter tick sludge builds up in the lifters. Piston slap is caused by the piston skirts and the piston caviating ie shrinking in diameter, this was an issue with gm 3100 engines in the 90's
I believe there is a manufacturing defect. Something with the coating in the cylinder or a cast on the connecting rod. They have a campaign to replace the entire short block based on customer complaints.

No clue..people like him i don't even bother with explaining anymore there a lost cause ! they should not even be allowed to hold a wrench ! and no about his other videos one was painful enough..but thanks for letting me know he is posting others so i can avoid them..thanks Bro !
I would highly recommend this model. I have a 2012 with 124,000 runs great. As long as fluids changed I've seen them get 250,000 to 300,000 miles out if them.
my elantra 2011 of 250000 km make the same ticking noise .. i think it is normal dependent on this engine design .. i advise you not to think about it .. it is a great car .. do not worry.
Hope u can help I have an 2014 hyundai elantra GT I have changed the Ignition Coils, spark plugs, crankshaft posion Sensor, map manifold Pressure Sensors, and the Belt I got the car at an auto auction my problem is when I step heavy on the Gas / floor it the car doesn't respond well RPM goes up to around 4000 and the car is very slow I was thinking it maybe be the throttle body because after I turn off the car I can Hear a clicking in the throttle body after I turn the car off
In my 2006 Elantra the knocking noise occurred when oil level dropped to the minimum. Adding/changing the oil was the perfect method to solve the problem.
Update knocking on Hyundai’s Is from a factory defect so my engine went out with 154K miles so if you’re car is knocking send it to the dealer and it doesn’t matter if you’re the original owned the factory is covering it so if you have a knocking issue don’t wait send it in because a knock sensor is faulty and they will replace the engine but it took 6 weeks to fix my car but they gave me a rental for the whole time and I didn’t pay anything
Yeah... See.... My first engine had that issue - I had 1 week left of warranty and they tried to get out of it saying "oh you didn't put enough oil in it" even though I had receipts to prove it. _(keep in mind this was with my insurance)_ - after idk 3 weeks, and $2k out of my pocket - I got a 50k mile engine. It has been about 1 year, I just got an oil change 2 weeks ago (beginning of 2020 to "start the year off right") and it's happening again but is way worse than before. Before, you didn't hear a knock - it just died. This time, it sounds like a diesel engine that doesn't want to shift gears. It is a factory defect (they didn't clean them properly, leaving slight metal flakes) whether or not they're gonna fix it for you free of charge, idk. Also, get a new dipstick, they say the dipsticks weren't reading oil levels properly. _(I believe the new ones are red, instead of yellow)_
And I know it's "not in my head/normal" cause before this happened BOTH engines were damn near dead silent. There has been many times where someone _(and on occasion myself)_ have gotten in the car and thought *"Is it even on?"*
@@nicolle27g call corporate they just reached a settlement and my sonata had 145k miles and now it has lifetime warranty on the engine that's part of the settlement so go to another dealer and call the corporate in California
It's funny if you read the comments. Most are Hyundai owners who got past the fear stage of the ticking noise. Everyone has found solutions to the problem. But the great part is that most have more than 100k miles and the cars are still running. Hyundai is very reliable, they have great original engine gaskets. You will rarely see these cars leak oil. The most important part is that they seriously put reliability of other cars to the test. They may not be the best cars but damn do they love their owners.
That is why don't drive it hard when cold. It is impossible to have a mechanical design that works identical in hard and cold environment. Just take it easy for the first 5 minutes of cold engine driving will go a long way to engine longevity.
First time ever owning an Elantra. Just bought this used car with $150,000 miles on it and it's ticking with no check engine lights on, should I worry?
Sound was still there and even worse, and even after you did the oil change, you need to let the oil settle in for more than just half a second. Also probably use Valvoline instead of Castrol GTX.
I live up in Minnesota and it's cold I've had what sounds like that noise in first morning for about a month now sound goes away under 20-30 secs. I have been keeping an eye out on it for about a week now. I found out going from 10w-30 to a lower oil to 5-30 solved the problem for me. Reason I say is yesterday the weather was 15 and before the 15 degrees it was 40 degrees and no sounds when it was warmer... The oil weight for sure has to do with certain climates. Nice Video:)
That things got another 100000+ miles left on it. The injectors have a tapping sound to them especially on the gdi's . Also would have liked to have heard it after it was warmed up.
Thanks for the info. I have a 2014 Elantra. I had the same problem with knocking/ ticking. The car has 112,000 miles on it. I changed the oil and the problem went away. I had almost 4,000 miles between oil changes. Could it be the oil needs to be changed more frequently? You also said the ticking was coming from the top of the engine. Could it be the valves needing adjustment? Are the valves adjustable on this engine? This problem came about because the car wouldn't start. I got 112,000 trouble free miles from the engine. I changed the plugs and the filters and still the same problem. At first I thought it was a gas pump and filter. I watched your video how to change it. ( Good video)I figured out the engine wasn't getting gas. But the pump wasn't the problem. So I took it to the dealer and they flushed the fuel injectors, and no more hard starting. That's when the dealer mentioned the ticking noise. Changing oil solved the problem. Thanks for all the info, you're a very intelligent mechanic. Hats off to you, and much success.
Hello guys I have a 2016 elantra gls and changed the timing chain and got a new fuel pump but still the car stalls and loses power in the first gear and produces a popping sound but runs good in all other gears please help,
Hyundai had an issue with cast flashing inside engine that didn't get removed and later could break free and cause this issue. Hyundai will cover an engine replacement free of charge if you fall under this issue no matter the year or mileage. 👏🏼
I have an issue with Hyuindai Elantra 2012. It starts and runs fine. When you stop and turn off engines after driving for 10 minutes, it just turns but not start until it cools off for about 45 minutes. Does not run hot or no other issues.
I have a question I have 2012 Hyundai Elantra and on 50 miles per hour start shaking and when I brake they still checking you think is the wheel bearings or the brake pad and when I'm driving you do a weird noise like he's coming from the tires but is not a tire because I pull brand new tires can you tell me what is wrong with my car please
To fix that problem you have to replace the short block engine, but in a few years the problem will come back, Dosen't matter if you change the oil every month. ☹ really sad
I just had cylinder four misfire on my 2013 Elantra. Coils and plugs didn't fix the problem but the car sounded like this one the last two years. Now I'm concerned, I have 150k miles on my 1.8l shops have refused to even look at it.
I can still hear it. That sounds like my 1997 Toyota Camry engine. And it has a spun crank bearing. I did the spark test on it and cylinder 2 is the bad one. I bought the car with a oil pump leak they must have ran it without oil.
Thank you this has been a huge help I just got my used car and didn't notice till it was cold out while cold it's louder and now maybe ill have to go through and fix it.
You can't get ride of from this noise by changing motor oil guys. You should open the cylinder head cover up. And then change hydraulic valve lifters. There are some additives to stop this noise. But it is not permanent solution.
My Hyundai has about 86,000 miles and makes this noise. It also jerks hard forward from time to time where it feels like someone might have hit me from behind but that is not the case. Any suggestions on what that might be?
My 2011 Elantra had the short block changed under warranty at 42,000km because of this same problem. 2 weeks ago at 92,000km, my car wouldn't start and the engine light came on. My code reader said it was my camshaft position sensor. I had it towed to the dealer and they said a piece from the camshaft fell and my engine is finished. I'm now waiting for Hyundai to give the okay for a warranty engine replacement. Those NU+ engines are crap!
Sometimes on the road I hear these Hyundais making a weird rapid ticking noise. I have also heard a couple Toyotas do it too but really it seems to be more of a Hyundai problem to me.
Hyundai engines have been known for valve noise on start up as long as I’ve known anything about Hyundais. I actually didn’t hear less noise after the guy changed the oil. Just drive the car gently until it warms up.
Ticking and Nocking are different things. Those Hyundai's ticking sounds are normal due to the direct injection and motor design. The ticking is louder in the mornings (cold start) due to the engine reving up above 1000 rpm to warm the catalytic converter (about 15 seconds, then the ticking noise reduce but you can still hear the tic). The cam shaft sound is normal, the opening and closing of the valves sound is louder than other cars. You can even hear the fuel injectors ticking on those cars louder then others too.
My 2012 only does that when the a/c is on....the tick stays in pace with the RPMs (intermittently), I've replaced the intake actuator and top motor mount.....problem not solved..
Glad you used the Magnatec as that's the 1st thing i'll do.I use Magnatec and damn it made my car quieter than before, although my car had no ticking at all not no problems but decided to use it as i do short/city driving.
2018 Hyundai elantra my check engine light is on. Sounds like a diesel engine and Knocking. The car stops with every left turn with the check engine light, battery light and oil light but it will start back up I changed the battery (brand new) yesterday. Now the check engine light is on (not flashing)
Original owners 10 yrs/ 100,000 but better have all your receipts on oil changes. Btw , wow change the oil before gets that dirty also in my owners manual says I can use 10w 30 and I do . That 5w 20 wears out fast and burns. ALSO FOR ALL PERSONS SAYING THIS ELANTRA IS IN A LAWSUIT " YOU ARE WRONG" THIS IS THE 1.8 NOT THE 2.0 OR OTHER 2.AND 3. MOTORS THAT HAD BAD MOTORS DUE TO FUEL INJECTION LOCATIONS"
I had a car where the engine had a slap sound. Thought it was a lifter or a loose belt. That was until one day the car quit working and saw oil spilling out from under the engine. The car was totalled.
HI..GUYS THANK YOU FOR THAT VIDEO, SO I PUT FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN MY CAR AND NO NOISE, THAT PROBLEM GONE, BUT I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT MY CAR IS VIBRATING, SPECIALY WHEN IT IS IN PARK GEAR.I EVEN PUT THE BEST GAS. SO WHERE DO YOU THINK THAT VIBRATION IS COMING FROM ,MY CAR IS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 1.8L LIMITED, I DID AN OIL CHANGE AND REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS,I PUT A STP GAS TREATMENT BOTTLE IN THE GAS TANK,I ALSO CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY ,PLUS THE MAS AIRFLOW SENSOR ,I REPLACED BOTH AIR FILTERS AND THE VIBRATION IS MUCH LOWER NOW, BUT IT IS IRRITATING THAT IS STILL THERE.

Does anyone just ignore the tick and drive anyways? Does it affect the driving Please if you could let me know I have a friend with this issue I am helping him out
Oh boy, that's giving me some "PTSD". I bought a 2012 Elantra back in November with 79k on it, I didn't even put 600 miles in 2 months on it and it started doing this. I ended up having to get an entire new engine because it go so bad.
It's not an issue with the car itself. People drive them hard and maintain them poorly, and that's when there are problems. I like to buy new for this reason. I bought a 2012 Kia Forte, which has the same 2.0 liter L4 engine, and did all the maintenance myself, full synthetic oil every 5k miles. It has over 100k miles on it now, has never needed any repairs, and runs like brand new. I bought a 2018 Elantra this week, and there is no difference in the sound of the engines. I expect both to last 300k miles or more. If you drive them gently, they will last for a long time if maintained properly. Even if driven hard, they can last many miles, but once more, proper maintenance is absolutely essential, and this is never guaranteed when buying used. Even dealer service does not guarantee that a car is maintained properly... The only way to truly ensure longevity is to buy new and service the vehicle yourself, using quality oil and filters at regular intervals.
@@michaellovell2518 umm, hyundai recalled 3 mmmmmillions engines due to this "manufacturing defect" and class action lawsuit in canada, if it wins i get a new engine. Not saying all are bad mine still strong but lifters clicking alot. Definatly want to do preventative measures.
@@tomanderson3196 Herp derp, muh Hyundai "runs strong," but I want them to replace my engine cuz I think I hear a noise, derp... This message brought to you by Toyota.
Ever notice how your car seems to run better after a thorough detailing? We all know the detail did nothing to the car mechanically, but it still feels that way, right? People read about problems with a certain car, then they start hearing mysterious "clicking" and shit... They get nervous and paranoid, and start stressing about whether there's a problem with their car, and often imagine there is even if there isn't... My daughter had me look at her car because she thought she heard an unusual noise. I checked it out, and couldn't find anything wrong. She kept coming back complaining that she still heard the noise. I didn't hear anything that concerned me. Finally, I told her I found the problem and fixed it, even though I actually did nothing. She was quite pleased to report that the repair was successful, and she didn't hear the noise any more. I'm not saying every bad report is bullshit, I just take them with a grain of salt. I'm old enough to remember how long it took for Toyota to overcome the widespread (and largely undeserved) poor public perception of Japanese imports. Every little issue was blown way out of proportion by the "I told you so" crowd, to the obvious glee of domestic manufacturers. All I know is that Korean manufacturing appears to offer good value, and their cars have excellent warranties. I gave them a shot, and so far, I'm satisfied enough that I purchased a second Korean made auto...
@@michaellovell2518 Oh i dont hear any noise, just the fact they recalled 3 million and over 6 million are effected by what the manufacturer calls a "production defect". I guess i should just not worry.

"The ticking is significantly reduced". Lol is that gaslighting? Because unless the ticking is inside my head, it sounds exactly the same. An oil change has never fixed ticking unless the oil coming out was too thick to be removed without suction. :)

Uh what....
This guy right here works for hyundai!! ^^^^
Yes but my car lurches every so often and the oil has been very dirty.
At what point did you change your spark plugs?
at around 120K miles I changed the plugs. I believe I need to change them again. Sometimes have a misfire. Prob need to replace the plug wires too.
had the same issue with my 14 elantra at about 80k miles.

Try the 8 hr charge to roll the lt1 to change the plugs lol
@@georgekershner6626 I've had the dealership tune it up twice . Plugs and wires. No big deal, I waited both times, only like 3 hours out the door.
This issue is not due to dirty oil or user error. These engines are faulty.
You know that ticking sound on the 1.6 is normal. It’s the fuel injectors
What would make gas consumption higher all the sudden not accurate with mileage all the sudden. I always got great gas mileage but it’s dropping on digital readings quicker than normal?
Any feedback appreciated
2016 Hyundai Elantra
How fast are you going on highway that is giving you more miles then what the cars suppose to do tops?
Its definitely not rod knocking, would never go 30.000 miles with a rod knocking.

Could please you make videos to how replace Heater pipe and BRACKET ASSY-TRANSAXLE for Hyundai Elantra 2013
Such a liar bro. Did you see the other video's he posted after this one? This engine design is crap.
I believe there is a manufacturing defect. Something with the coating in the cylinder or a cast on the connecting rod. They have a campaign to replace the entire short block based on customer complaints.

In my 2006 Elantra the knocking noise occurred when oil level dropped to the minimum. Adding/changing the oil was the perfect method to solve the problem.
That actually happened to my sonata 2006 V6 also. I still can't figure out what is going on.
My Hyundai dealer wouldn’t fix my 2015 Elantra it had 83,000 miles. They wanted me to pay for half of the new motor. I’m so mad

You can't get ride of from this noise by changing motor oil guys. You should open the cylinder head cover up. And then change hydraulic valve lifters. There are some additives to stop this noise. But it is not permanent solution.
So what engine is that? A little info please. 1.6 or 1.8? You know they make different sizes right?
1.8 NU
My Hyundai has about 86,000 miles and makes this noise. It also jerks hard forward from time to time where it feels like someone might have hit me from behind but that is not the case. Any suggestions on what that might be?
Its the crank bearing, get it replaced if u still have the car before the engine blows unless under warranty.
please open the valve cover and check if there are any pliers inside the engine.
You talk like Schwarzenegger and the tick tock sound is still there, lol.
Exactly!
This hyundai is 1.8 NU motor which is MPI not GDI, it’s port injected and shouldn’t make a tick like most GDI engines
My 2012 only does that when the a/c is on....the tick stays in pace with the RPMs (intermittently), I've replaced the intake actuator and top motor mount.....problem not solved..
Hello. How did you solve this problem?
Use of an aftermarket filter can cause engine noise. There is a tsb on it. Good luck.
usually, only after initial start up, then it goes away...
Glad you used the Magnatec as that's the 1st thing i'll do.I use Magnatec and damn it made my car quieter than before, although my car had no ticking at all not no problems but decided to use it as i do short/city driving.
The ticking you hear when they change the oil is the high pressure fuel pump and the direct injection head design.
Justin Hall this particular engine is not gdi. This is the multiport injection one. Notice the engine cover just says DOHC (dual overhead cam)
So what was the problem at the end
My friend cleaned a solenoid where the oil moves to the top of the engine. That fixed it for him
Witch solenoid was it? Thanks!
@@Mackenzie.Grant95 Variable valve timing solenoid. There's one on the front and rear of the engine near the top right by the valve cover.
Check out the hyundai elantra that crossed a million miles. Same engine and transmission. Same model as this one.
2018 Hyundai elantra
my check engine light is on.
Sounds like a diesel engine and Knocking.
The car stops with every left turn with the check engine light, battery light and oil light but it will start back up
I changed the battery (brand new) yesterday. Now the check engine light is on (not flashing)
Did you find out the problem.?
I have the same problem.. Could I fix the chain belt pusher somehow without opening the left part of engine..???
Did you fix the problem?
So what was the oil that you used? You never say what oil you used? What weight
10w60 Castrol
Sound still there
HI..GUYS THANK YOU FOR THAT VIDEO, SO I PUT FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN MY CAR AND NO NOISE, THAT PROBLEM GONE, BUT I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT MY CAR IS VIBRATING, SPECIALY WHEN IT IS IN PARK GEAR.I EVEN PUT THE BEST GAS.
I did a system clean at valvoline on mine. It started running a little better.
@@anitavolpato3926 HI..A AUTO PARTS GUY AT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT,AND IT WILL TAKE THAT SMALL VIBRATION,AND THAT IS A COMMON WEAR AND TEAR AUTO PART. MOST STICK SHIFT CARS NEED TO REPLACE ALL 3 MOTOR MOUNTS, SO I GUESS I'M TO ORDER THROUGH AMAZON AND HOPEFULLY THEY HAVE IT ,I'LL LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW THAT WENT. THX ENJOY YOUR DAY.
Very interesting looking forward to more videos thanks for what you do
Does anyone just ignore the tick and drive anyways?
Does it affect the driving
Please if you could let me know I have a friend with this issue I am helping him out
I have same tick I just drive it anyway
IDK MAYBE.....PLACE MAGNET INSIDE FUNNEL TO CATCH ANY METAL

Herp derp, muh Hyundai "runs strong," but I want them to replace my engine cuz I think I hear a noise, derp...
I have that exact problem and going to change the oil and get the factory oil filter with the check valve to see if it makes any difference
I have the same problem, just add a can of oil additives (STP high milage oil treatment) for 5 dollars. You won't hear a tick after that. Being doing this forever now.
"The ticking is significantly reduced". Lol is that gaslighting? Because unless the ticking is inside my head, it sounds exactly the same. An oil change has never fixed ticking unless the oil coming out was too thick to be removed without suction. :)
It's easy to hear on a cold start up...and goes away for me as it heats up.
