i love the fact that Twin Peaks got up from its cancellation, and was brought to a honorable closing by its creator.. even 25 years later as he predicted in the final ep of sea2
This is the first I had heard of Scavenger's Reign being cancelled and all I can say is that choice is absolutely insane. Sometimes I wonder if shows are being cancelled for being too good. They attract attention away from shows the studios care about more, so they get rid of them.
I think what happens sometimes is that a piece of art is good because it is so specific in what it is trying to do, but it appeals to a smaller audience as a result. If it doesn't appeal to the most general audience, it's just not lucrative enough to the execs. It sucks.
"Outer Range" (2022-2024, "amazon prime") "The OA" (2016-2019, Nutflecks) "Archive 81" (2022, Nutflecks) "Scavenger's Reign" (2023. MAX) *There's your problem, these shows were behind a "video streaming service" paywall. I've Never heard of any of them.
The OA was so good. It took a while for the second season to get picked back up and I thought it would be canceled. Then when we got season two I was so excited! Just for it to get canceled again… the ending was SO good for season two and was such a good setup for what was next. It’s the reason why i tell everyone i know so often about Silo and Severance 😭
Hey man, so I watched Outer Range! Spoilers I love the scene in which Billy sings „don’t give up“ at the funeral. It’s gold. Überhaupt - that film really awakened my love for power ballads 😄 Billy really showed the beauty of singing loudly and proudly. Loved Joy‘s timeline too, though I think it was cut short a little there. Had they planned a third season? I mean there are ways the series could go on (with the rival dads timeline for example) but it was pretty tied up storywise by the end of sea2 in my opinion. Anyway it was a heartening watch (I was also glad to see lily taylor and saw Nate’s first wife 😊 ach six feet under I love you) Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm so glad that you brought up Archive 81! My partner and I loved the show and were so disappointed that practically nobody was talking about it. It was some really interesting storytelling and loved the mystery.
I may have to get back to Outer Range if you're comparing it with *Dark.* Dark is probably my all-time favorite sci-fi show, due to how deep the story is. Honestly it's why it was such a tragedy that 1899 was cancelled (different show, same creator), as it might've turned out to be similarly deep -- and instead was kinda just cancelled way too early to get much of the content.
The fact that THE EVENT, FLASH FORWARD, THE LOST ROOM, INCORPORATED and THE OA were cancelled after one season ARE UTTER ATROCITIES. They are SCI FI'S THAT HAD SUCH INCREDIBLE POTENTIAL
Invasion with William Fitchner. Ran on . . . ABC(?) from 2005 through 2006 in the rush of shows that wanted to be the next Lost. It was a neat Invasion of the Body Snatchers riff with a cool Darwinian ‘kin selection’ theme. I’ll admit it didn’t have the legs to go more than another season or two after the two we got, but I loved it.
Travelers is a show I don't see get talked about much, it got cancelled after 3 seasons but it's fantastic. The last episode could be interpreted as a decent ending though. Highly recommend!
HBO did a series called Raised By Wolves, they cancelled it after two seasons and I believe HBO pulled the show from streaming. I wasn't really a fan of Raised By Wolves, but I was curious where the barking mad plot was going and I really feel for the cast and crew who worked so hard on the show. I just don't understand why HBO couldn't have done a 90-120 minute special that completes the story, or at least gives the viewer an idea of where they were going; then they would still have available the content that they spent a lot of money on. Farscape had The Peacekeeper Wars. At least The Expanse knew it was ending, so gave us an ending of sorts.
Thankee! I always look to you for the shows that slipped through my --I mean slipped through the cracks!!! Archive 81 for me, this time! (I kinda felt annoyance with Poots' character led to THAT cancellation, but I'm probably projecting...) Time for an OA s1 rewatch. It's been far too long! 👼🏽
I had watched the first 3 you had mentioned (actually just getting into the OA now) and thought for sure you were gonna mention Raised by Wolves which is really good but yet again I’m assuming the high production costs were its downfall. I’ll have to check out Scavengers Reign. Sounds right up my alley. The cancellation of Outer range really ticked me off in addition to Raised by Wolves. We really enjoyed Archive 81 and that’s one I can’t figure out as I’m sure the production costs weren’t that high for a show like that. I think that one didn’t get enough buzz so Netflix cut the cord. This business of cancelling shows we’ve become invested in really sucks but we’re kind of stuck. I mean what can you do?? I don’t have time to get involved with petitions to reinstate a show. It’s just BS, we trust them that they’ll do the right thing and in many of these cases, they aren’t
but on a different note i think that some shows might have been saved by their cancellation - sci fi is mostly thrilling and intriguing in the setup, but difficult to bring to a satisfying close.. so maybe some remain cool in memory because they never had to wrap it up
I love these kind of shows! Sci-fi, horror/thriller with a touch of Twilight Zone. Dark is the greatest to ever do it, its a Masterpiece! OA was really good, may be a bit slow for some but i loved it. Outer Range has been on my watch list for a while. A few other canceled jems are 1899 and Raised by Wolves
I found Outer Range and The OA to be quite enjoyable. However, Archive 81 was a bit too intellectually demanding for my taste. I wanted to support the main character because I enjoyed his performance in the wine-themed film he was in on Netflix.
I’ve been interested in why tv shows are cancelled since I was around ten (50 years ago). I read the book “The Making of Star Trek” and some books about the tv industry. Shows can be cancelled because they are TOO good. The entertainment industry wants to attract viewers who can be persuaded by advertising, so, the industry doesn’t want a “cerebral” audience, regardless of how many watch their show. Cerebral audiences tend to buy products based on need and quality - not advertising. That just ONE way a great show can be cancelled - the wrong demographic watches it.
Just to clarify, I know it was a minor part near the end of your video but I still need to address it any time this happens. It’s surprising to me still how so many people don’t understand how Rotten Tomatoes works. They did not “give it a score of 100%.” Rotten Tomatoes as a site does not give out scores it does not review movies or shows and it does not rank them. What Rotten Tomatoes DOES do is that they compile reviews from dozens and hundreds of trusted film reviewers (both online and journalistic) and gives a simple statistic. How many of them gave this project a positive review, and how many gave a negative. That’s it. That’s as black and white as it gets. For example, you can’t someone two movies on RT, one with an 88% and the other with a 93% and say that the second one is objectively better. It just means that more people generally liked it. Anyway, that’s how the site works. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
Man The OA was stupid, It started off sooo good but when they started those stupid dance moves no matter what I could not get past it and it was down hill from there I literally could not finish
What, outer range needs a conclusion!
i love the fact that Twin Peaks got up from its cancellation, and was brought to a honorable closing by its creator.. even 25 years later as he predicted in the final ep of sea2
The peripheral was so good 😭😭
1899 was a very sad recent cancellation.

The OA getting cancelled was why I quit Netflix and still have not gone back. The Silo and Severance are my two main shows right now ;)
Hey man, so I watched Outer Range!

1899, as well! I wasn’t personally a huge fan of the ending, but it was an exceptionally fun ride.
I'm so glad that you brought up Archive 81! My partner and I loved the show and were so disappointed that practically nobody was talking about it. It was some really interesting storytelling and loved the mystery.
outer range looks really intriguing, gonna check it out for sure. neighborhood feuds are heavy stuff, paired with mysterious goings on, sounds good..
Yeah, sad that outer range won’t get its conclusion. Don’t get me started on the OA! Archive 81 does work as a one off thankfully.

I love these hidden gems that you find for us. The themes and story lines are becoming so sophisticated.
I still can't believe "Night Sky" and "Peripheral" got cancelled from Amazon Prime :(. I thought they had potential.
I don’t know about night sky, but peripheral was really expensive and few people watched.
i was surprised to see someone i was subscribed to talking about outer range!

I felt it ended perfectly..

Netflix picked up Scavenger's Reign after Max dropped it. Go watch it and rate it two thumbs up, maybe they can make the second season.
Bummer. I had a feeling they might cancel Outer Range. Thanks for the recommendations.
Raised by Wolves was one of my favs
me too !!
I was heart broken when they canceled it!!
The season finale of season one of OA was moving!! It’s the best word I can use to describe it. It was amazing. It moved me.
outer range was cancled!!!!! i just watched it and loved it :(

An older show that was cancelled and need a conclusion is Utopia, a British show about a prophetic comic book and a very strange assassin.
but on a different note i think that some shows might have been saved by their cancellation - sci fi is mostly thrilling and intriguing in the setup, but difficult to bring to a satisfying close.. so maybe some remain cool in memory because they never had to wrap it up

+1 to Archive 81! We've watched it TWICE, absolutely fantastic.

Archive 81 was phenomenal and I too came across it after watching black box !!are we the same person nautilus?
I will never forget Carnivalè. I will never forgive hbo 😭
THIS! ✅✅✅
While not sci-fi, the cancelation of warrior on max still cuts deep into my soul

Mamoudou Athie is such a good actor! Heading to Archive 81 now!
He's great! I hope he gets more roles that show off his talent.
@@nautilusfiles Me too! Archive 81 is crazy! Thanks for the heads up on that one!
My man didn't even mention Firefly.
I guess everybody already knew about that show
This is about more recent, lesser-known shows. An all-time list real list would be much, much longer than this.
@@nautilusfiles Got it.
Archive 81 is definitely a sleeper. Some great moments and creepiness.
Archive 81 was good
The Man Who Fell to Earth and Night Sky are 2 that I was upset were cancelled.
Oddly, one of the cancellations that hit me hard was The Sarah Conner Chronicles.
I keep telling people to watch the OA.
I still have hope that it gets picked up before it's forgotten.
The cancellation of The OA is one of TV's greatest crimes.
Gotta once again float Sense8 for these videos man. Fan fucking tastic show
I really liked Outer Range
That's like starting a book with the back half ripped out. Why?
Yes, more please!
Man The OA was stupid, It started off sooo good but when they started those stupid dance moves no matter what I could not get past it and it was down hill from there
I literally could not finish
The only one of these that I've seen (so far) is Archive 81, but I definitely second the recommendation!
That one bummed me out because the story was so promising!
This is how I find out outer range got cancelled?! Whyyyyyyyyyy
I canceled Netflix when the canceled 1899 and kept Wednesday
Netflix canned "Inside Job" it was so funny. Smh.
THE EXPANSE!!!!! Canceled TWICE and still not story
Lodge 49 is another good one more comedy based though
Tribes of Europa
RAISED BY WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely!
Scavenger's Reign was cancelled???????
There is currently no plan for a second season, unfortunately. So, effectively canceled despite the small chance they change their minds @ Netflix.
The Peripheral - also cancelled. Had massive potential - now done. Stupid.
Night Sky - also cancelled. A very interesting show - now done. Stupid.
