ye stargate universe. noone can watch robert carlyle act his ass off an not get more seasons. they left those people floating off in the empty void between galaxies
As an Argentinian, seeing Dark Angel as the number one pick is kind of weird. A problem the show had and wasn't mentioned on the video was that it was too similar to Cybersix, it even was accused of plagiarism.
You should check out "Hap and Leonard" it was one of the best TV shows made and had one of the best TV chemistry in the lead actors. It is unfortunate that Micheal Kenneth died because his acting is even better than his character "Chalky" from Boardwalk Empire. Let me know what you think and thank you for all the great content.
We already know the walking dead is topping that list. Honorary contenders: stranger things or pretty little liars. Shows that could’ve ended after the first few seasons or even season 1.
Stranger Things has done irreparable numbers to Netflix because if a show doesn’t build a fanbase as large as what ST made in literally a week it’s off to the gulag with them.
Netflix almost cancelled Sandman despite it being them admitting that it was one of their most watched shows of the year because they expected it to do ST and Bridgerton numbers.
And no one wants to watch a show that will end on a cliffhanger and get cancelled so we wait to see if it gets renewed, making it more likely they cancel it when it isn’t in the global top #10 long enough. Also with streaming, the whole point is to watch when you want, not when it releases. They need to let shows grow an audience. The Office, Parks and Rec, Community, and so many of their big hits now took a while to build up a following.
interestingly, that show wasn't all that good. One thing i can't sand about it is that the guy that played the supposely love interest to eleven. no chemistry b/t them what so ever.
Bryan Fuller also created Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls and produced Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, all of which were canceled. He has joked about what bad luck he has. Apparently NBC contributed to Hannibal’s demise as well. They wanted him to cast a American actor as Hannibal, and when he chose Mad Mikkelson they got mad and stopped supporting it. So it’s a miracle the show lasted three seasons really.
I loved Pushing Daisies so much and I'm still sad it got cancelled so abruptly. I still can't get over it any time I think about that show. Bryan Fuller makes some of the most amazing shows.
Emily In Paris will probably get 10 seasons of boring and ocasionally offensive storylines while others fall. Sucks that so many talents are being wasted in a show like that.
Omg please don't say that series is still going? I had forgotten about it since canceling my Netflix and it was just infuriating coming back to my attention...
@@manishrajak6700result of most people just mass consuming with no awareness or emotional investment... I don't get how people live like this it goes against everything that gives TVshows merit
The cancelled show whose loss breaks me the most is Pushing Daisies. It had a very intriguing premise that you'd think would be a dark thriller, but it's instead packaged in a colorful heartwarming world, with an incredible cast of characters. It was just so unique.
The hilarious thing is it didn't have the ratings to be renewed to begin with. It didn't have the numbers for its entire three season run. Given Bryan Fuller's track record it's unsurprising it hasn't been picked up anywhere else, and is surprising he stuck with it for three years.
I still remember when Hannibal was cancelled and Bryan Fuller, the series creator, went on social media trying his hardest to get the show picked up by another network. No networks or streaming services wanted to take the chance on a show that didn't have great rating at the time. It was heartbreaking because the final episode left so much unresolved. Glad to see Mads eager to return.
I feel this show talked about so complicated subject. Bit of spoiler, but the mental gymnastics and the mental fragility some psychopaths can do made a lot of people uneasy. And i mean the drawing of clock is so well made, is so good, that people were maybe frightened about discussing it. It was dark but in a way that felt so real and unique, and captivating. But maybe the subjects were at the time to well done. The sipral in psychosis and the doubt that will had were so genuine were so well done. Maybe it was to well executed for the public ?
If its nit the subject matter i dont see at all were the problem is. The actors almost all of them were sooooooooooo good, the story is so well made, and the protagonist so well fleshed. I dont like seeing usually tv show about serial killers or murder story, but yeah hannibal was so well written. In this list i saw 1899 and was frustated and some of the other. But this show was an embodiement of what a good reboot is.
Thank you for mentioning it, it’s been twelve years and Im still salty about it because it was one of my favorite shows, and I never hear anyone talk about it 😢
My favourite thing about B99's cancellation is that it was revived by NBC TWELVE HOURS after its cancellation. The uproar was so immense after it was cancelled that HALF A DAY later it was revived. Also, I'm still angry about the cancellation of Warrior Nun.
NBC was like "alright, we fucked up when passing the project, your savior is here!" It's crazy that it managed to survive five seasons on FOX, a deeply conservative network
I don't think it is that crazy. Fox News is conservative, but a lot of the general Fox content is quite liberal. Their X-Men movies leant very hard into LGBTQ+ rights as an analogy, for example.
I'm glad Sense8 got the opportunity to wrap up with the special, but it was still heartbreaking that we couldn't spend more time with them. My other disappointment was Humans.
As much as I love the show, Dirk Gently's second season looks like it's already losing the grip anyway. Not to mention it turned out Max Landis is kinda a shitty person.
Gosh I miss Dirk Gently. Even if the second season was sadly a bit of a downgrade from the first, it was still a fun show and I was looking forward to where all the stuff they were setting up was going to go
Netflix cancelling Lockwood and Co, despite the great rating and only a couple of months after it’s debut is honestly so insulting to audiences and the team who made it. From the older shows, I really wish we could have gotten at least another season of Tru Calling.
Putting Dark Angel at number one is the reason you're the GOAT, tbh. The small piece of me that never got over its cancellation feels very seen in this moment.

It was such a great time for female lead action shows. And I love Dark Angel. Still mad. There was just so much left undone.
The cancellation of 1899 is the reason I don't watch TV anymore. It inspired me so much as a storyteller, like I cannot stress the impact this show had on me. ... and then it was cancelled. It was basicly sent to its death, no promotion, released between Wednesday and the World Cup. The moment the first 28 days were over, it was cancelled. It was what broke me; I just stopped watching anything that wasn't a limited series or a concluded story, I stopped caring about what these streaming companies put up, when they only care about the next pop culture hit and not about the art of storytelling.
I loved Dark so much, IMO one of the best TV shows, so I was really looking forward to 1899. I thought, if it's anything like Dark, if it gets canceled, I'm going to be really upset that I ever watched it because that's not the kind of show you want to go unfinished. There's no point. So I waited to see if it got renewed or not. I'm upset it got cancelled, but I'm really glad I didn't watch it. I can't imagine
I don't watch shows now unless they already have 5 seasons out. That way if you find a show you love you get a lot of it and you wont find an amazing first season and get heart broken its canceled
@@jamesknapp64 the producer must change their approach of doing tv series .why? Because we all know ratings is the most important if your show is flop or not hit it may be canceled it. So the solution is a one season only like queens gambit style. Even the series is low ratings still the series finish. Look why korean tv series become popular. Most of there series is one whole season 16 to 25 episodes only. Thats the secret.
Listen, I unironically LOVED Santa Clarita Diet. That specific brand of camp is my favorite thing ever, and I've never stopped being devastated at its cancelation
@@fondajames fuinny there are 1000s of zombie shows, but two from the PoV of the zombie is too many? I love both shows but they're very different in almost every way apart from smart zombies. And both shows were successful and popular!
What I absolutely loved about 1899 was the use of different languages. Because when you grow up in Europe ( or me, as the creators, a fellow german) you are used to having an assortment of languages around you. It makes life so much richer.
Yes I loved it too I'm mixed and grew up in Belgium so I speak quite a few languages like a lot of Europeans so this was such a treat to watch a show that makes you feel so surrounded by languages and makes me feel how I grew up plus knowing it came from the same makers as dark you knew it would be great shame we never got to see just how much 😭
I'm from Finland and speak multiple European languages so it was really cool to use all those languages while watching the show! I also love that the crew was made up of people from all around the World, who all spoke different languages. Such an authentic project.
@@elinasopanen6766 Speaking a lot of languages is really not that big a deal regarding how many people do it, at the very least in absolute terms. I only speak two (German natively and English well enough to understand everything and be able to say almost everything) and have good-ish skills in a third (French). Other languages like Spanish, Italian and Dutch I understand to a very minor degree. But I like hearing those three (and the alluded to others) a lot and am always curious to see how well I understand what's said or written in them. A film or much rather a t.v. series using a variety of langauges sounds very appealing to me for these reasons and there must be so many other people with languages skills comparable to mine who feel the same way. Plus there are all the people who just happen to be pretty much perfectly quintilingual who could easily follow almost everything that's being said and for whom all these langues being used would make a story just better - more interesting, more authentic, or funnier because of the added opportunity for jokes or other humourous things.
@@camelopardalis84 Yeah that's cool. I was only pointing out the languages thing because (almost all) shows that incorporate characters from different countries are just lazy, and still make foreign characters speak English (like I love Sense8 but why do they use a loophole so all the characters speak English in their home countries or with their families?). But in 1899, they fully embraced the mess of having so many languages and the language barriers and difficulties. The characters didn't just switch from languages, there were so many that never spoke any English! There were eight main languages, and I counted at least a line or two for eight more. I have never seen anything like it at least.
Omg I wish. I could still love it if that were the case. How something can go from being the best show ever to the worst is insane. Truly an accomplishment to David & DB. 🙄
I’ve had such a hard time with tv shows nowadays. Because of the rise of streaming services, we have a horrible mix of good shows constantly getting cancelled and bad shows never dying. How am I supposed to enjoy watching anything anymore?
Plenty of good shows that were completed and are great. Just have to let your friends guinea pig them and come back and tell you if they're good or not
The threat of good shows being canceled made me watch less and less Tv shows over the years, Mindhunter was the biggest hit for me, such an incredible show cancelled 😞
That one still hurts so freaking bad. There was still so much they could have done with that show. It’s rare to get an original idea, the perfect cast, cinematography and execution all wrapped in one but they did it. It would have been so interesting to see the world explored more.
The OA is the reason why I refuse to subscribe to Netflix ever since I cancelled it. Brit and Zal had all 5 seasons sorta figured out, it would've been glorious to finally be able to see something weird and unpredictable get an entire arc with beginning, middle and ending; seeing the true original vision of its creators executed in the way they wanted to tell it. When you said "so unpredictable you never know what's around the corner" I was emphatically agreeing with my head because the very thing I loved about the weirdness of The OA was the fact that I couldn't figure out the entire plot in the first 1 or 2 episodes. You were always left with kind of a question mark, not really knowing what was coming next. And the cliffhanger of season 2 killed me.
It will never not frustrate me how Netflix cancelled Inside Job despite positive reviews and high viewership, not to mention it ends on a cliffhanger. It’s why I’m not getting my hopes up for season 2 of Blue Eyed Samurai despite it being one of my favourite shows, just been let down by Netflix too many times
And the story with Inside job is even more upsetting, cause season 2 was close to being done, but they really wanted that tax write off. Ugh, fucking Netflix management
I don’t think I’ll ever get over the absolute cliff hanger (pun intended) of Hannibal’s last episode. Hannibal is actually my favorite show till this day.
As a near 37 year-old, I remember watching Dark Angel and LOVING it. Until recently, I could have sworn it was a fever dream because no one I talked to remembered it. So glad it topped your list!
I'm almost 32 now and watched Dark Angel just as religiously as I watched Buffy and Angel but also watched Alias. Loved all of these shows so much and I also think Buffy should have had one more season. I know we got 7 but this could have rounded everything out and up.
I write about Dark Angel from time to time. But you wouldn't like what I'm writing about it. It's a concern if James Cameron gets too much involved with the Alita sequel. I don't want it to become more like Dark Angel. Which is quite similar to a lot of shows from today, and I don't mean this as a compliment.
3:51 - Hannibal 7:01 - The OA 12:44 - 1899 17:46 - The Secret Circle 21:50 - dead like me 26:04 - I Am Not Okay With This 29:04 - Impulse 36:52 - Dark Angel 42:07 yeah the show which belongs to X-Men universe "The Gifted". Here is the premise: "Two ordinary parents take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive. At the end of the 1st season several members of the underground leave to join the Inner Circle, and the 2nd season sees conflict between these groups as well as others with their own extreme ideologies."
I just finished watching I Am Not Okay With This and I’m so devastated that Netflix had the nerve to cancel that show. Syd is genuinely such a relatable character who you can root for despite her not always making perfect decisions. Stan is genuinely my favorite character. He’s so dorky yet likable and Wyatt Oleff stole the show. The ensemble cast is really strong as well. This show is so accurate to the teenage experience while still being quirky and a little offputting. I loved Syd and Stan’s friendship so much, because we need more healthy male/female friendships in media. And then to leave it on that cliffhanger? Absolutely insane. I need closure.
Maybe it's for the best for this one. Season one covered the source material fully, except that the original ending took a depressing turn and Sidney ended her life out of guilt in the novel. The Netflix show ended on a cliffhanger but the cancelled sequel would have been totally original content and I'm not sure, I fully trust Netflix with that.
I've been left scarred since Hannibal's cancellation, for years i didn't watch a show unless it was finished... and then i fell into the Shadow and Bones fandom 💀💀💀
same for me! after Hannibal series 3 finale I refused for literal YEARS to watch shows that were ongoing (except for those I was already watching like arrow and supernatural). shit's traumatising
28:25 reminds me of "The Society", which was not only cancelled after being renewed, but it was cancelled like 2 weeks before they started FILMING season 2
This man deserves a win, he's so fucking tallented I just do not understand how Roberto Aguirre Sacasa keeps getting shit shows renewed while Bryan Fuller's masterpieces keep getting cancelled. American Gods suffered after he left, I couldn't get to the end of season 2.
I’m literally 29 years old and not over the cancellation of fucking Teen Titans of all things. But this video is how I find out Our Flag Means Death is cancelled. I feel bad for all the fans of beloved shows that got cancelled. I’m with you.
Our Flag is the one that hurt the most for me. I love that show so much. What really stinks is that the creator only wanted it to be three seasons, but it got canceled after season 2. Why not just let them have season 3? Or even a film to wrap up the story they'd already written? Frustrating. Max is on a spree of cancelling shows and also sometimes deleting them from existence. There was a MASSIVE fan-led campaign to get a renewal for Our Flag (they even bought a billboard in Times Square NYC) or to get other networks to pick it up for the final season, but it didn't happen. Makes me wonder if Max is setting the cost of rights to shows at an astronomical price or something... which means no Max shows can get a second life there or anywhere else. IDK
Me too, just right now. I literally stopped the video to go check. Because the forecast was kinda positive, they were talking about wrapping things up in season 3, all the ideas and how the new season would do a thing will they/won't they shows don't do that often - show the couple's life after they get together. And I got so excited... At least they didn't end the second season on any major cliffhanger (probably sensing they would push their luck), but with somewhat of a resolution for everyone. I hope there is some sort of continuation though, in a different format. I'd read a novel or a comic about that universe
Spectacular Spiderman was fantastic as well... and there are 2 seasons of great episodes and the third season that I'm still waiting on. And they only wanted to make 3 fucking seasons! Why? Why do they have to make 2 seasons and then say _well we were planning on 3 seasons in total and would make the final season now... but, neh_
Pushing Daisies being cancelled and treated as dirty as it was is unforgivable. If we are really going to live in an age where we just reboot things over and over, why not do this on shows like Pushing Daisies that barely got a chance and deserve a second one?
Yes! Like now every movie getting musical version so why not pushing daisies. I know they said in the past movie they would love have but they need a lot money to producen it. some tv show had the vibe of it but nothing match it😢
That show was just beautiful and charming and funny and had an all around killer cast. They had to cobble together a finale in post-production because they had been left hanging if they get renewed or not after they were done shooting. Fun fact: another Bryan Fuller show, originally, the main character was planed as someone George meets in a later season of Dead Like Me. He really makes creative stuff that gets pushed around by networks a lot. Another one is Wonderfalls, that show got FOXed worse than Firefly, they moved it around a lot and then took it of the air after 4 episodes. It took a huge fan begging campaign for it to even get a DVD release of the full season 1. It's not perfect, the will they won't they gets a little annoying in the second half, but there was so much potential there, it still makes me sad.
Still hoping someone will make an essay about the work of Bryan Fuller and all the unique worlds and stories he created but are sadly killed systematically one after the other
THANK YOU for putting The Secret Circle on this list! I read all of LJ Smith books and watched that show like 3 times now. I thought I was the only one who remembered!
I will never forgive Netflix for the cancellation of The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance. This is one of the few recent Fantasy series that made me feel like I was truly discovering another world. I could truly feel the passion from the people that worked on it and was devasted when I heard it got canceled
IMHO The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and the Willow tv-series on Disney+ have been the only genuinely good non-animated fantasy series to come out, and I am crushed both were cancelled (and incredibly bitter Willow got nuked from streaming altogether).
@@AdamJohnson20 Definitely if you can find it. Each season works as a standalone story, though they have connected elements. The cancellation doesn't really derail the story or leave a cliffhanger unaddressed. It's just annoying because they clearly had a lot more stories they could tell.
Everyone I knew who watched it highly recommended this to me. However, by that point I knew it wasn't coming back so didn't want to get in to that frustration.
I will NEVER get over how Deadly Class had an absolute blast of a first season and then just got cancelled 💀 The comic books were such a good source material and the show had *SO MUCH* potential I’m still pissed 😭
The fact that it failed when it had the russo brothers as producers… within the same year,,, the russo brothers that did Infitiy war,,, one of the biggest cinematic releases of all time,,,
One I remember that got cancelled was Forever (2014) with Ioan Gruffedd as Henry Morgan, who is immortal. Wasn't a classic or anything like that, but was enjoyable and could have easily lasted 3-4 seasons without getting boring.
I couldn’t help the scream when I saw The Secret Circle on this list because not many people even remember it. As someone who not only watched it as is aired, but bought and read all the books that inspired it (who for those who don’t know are written by the same writer of TVD), this show has remained in my mind for years because everything about it is so interesting and had so much potential. From the story to the aesthetic. I was and still am so disappointed it was canceled and with so much to be developed and so many questions to be answered, it is definitely a show that deserves a second chance.
A reboot is definitely needed! ❤ And if it were to be successful enough maybe a backdoor pilot episode for LJ Smith's Night World series could be snuck in. 😅
I found my people!! The way no one I know knows about this show hurts me so bad! And that cliffhanger will forever be a crime in my mind. A reboot is definitely needed (though I loved the original cast very much)
I am still upset about Secret Circle's cancellation to this day. Doubly so because outside of piracy, I have no way to watch it. There was never a DVD release, it's not on streaming anywhere (in Canada), you can't even buy episodes on Amazon.
I honestly believe if the show had just gotten a second season theres a good chance it wouldve become one of the most beloved supernatural teen dramas of its time, really so sad what happened with it.
I think the Constantine cancelation is the one I can't get over. Matt Ryan gave such an amazing performance and the whole show was giving me the Supernatural early seasons vibes, I wish it would get a continuation.
I never got over Netflix cancelling the sitcom One Day At A Time after 3 seasons. It won Emmys and was so funny and heartwarming with amazing chemistry among the cast. The show did get revived a year later on Pop TV, but soon after it started there, Covid hit and it had to stop production, then spent a year trying to find another new home before ending permanently.
Teenage Bounty Hunters getting cancelled will always be my villian origin story. I learned about it from you and I feel in love with the show. The clifhanger they leave you on is criminal
I will always miss Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But recently or recent-ish, The Peripheral being cancelled is the one that hurts the most. I love that show. And I miss how every single week when it was on it was all over Twitter. Back when it was still called Twitter I think. The cast and crew dropped post after post every week too which made it extra special. It truly felt like an event. There was so much more story still left to tell. What makes it even more painful is that it was actually renewed for a Second Season, but then, from out of nowhere, Amazon dropped it like an atom bomb. Way to go, Amazon!! Jerks!!
Penny Dreadful almost fell victim to cancellation that the directors and producers predict will be cancel after season three due to weak ratings so they rushed the final ending. I love the ending but I wished it was more and paced better. I know they had another spin off but it was also cancelled. I highly recommend Penny Dreadful with Eva Green and Helen McCrory absolutely amazing series, it’s dark and haunting.
Penny Dreadful and Sense8 are both my favourite shows of all time and I will never forgive the cancellations and rushed endings even when I'm 95 years old
Lockwood & Co's cancellation devastated me. They really could've covered the rest of the books with like 2 more seasons probably. I also really needed at least one more season of Anne with an E and Julie and the Phantoms
It's also sad because the main actress left Bridgerton because Lockwood and Co was a better opportunity and she was re-casted. So now she is left without the two big shows that could have propelled her to bigger things.
Julie and the phantoms was a Netflix reboot targeted towards young teens. I personally really liked it because of its exploration of music, grief and death while having fun and interesting characters and a bombastic villian. And idk why, but Netflix cancelled the show after just one season, which endes on a massive cliff hanger, and i will forever be mad about it >:,( I know it isn’t as grand of a show as the shows mentioned in this video, but i will still mourn the loss of this story untold. Also the show had some absolute banging songs, and Unsaid Emily always makes me cry.
@@avalon7832 Me too. First i was sobbing at the great story and character moments, and now i am sobbing because we will never know the true end of the story T^T
oh my god, i was deeply obsessed with dark angel as a child/teen. i watched it so many times, absolutely adored it. no one i know has ever heard of it, so it's exciting to see you discussing it here! it's really an absolute gem, still one of my favorite shows.
Hannibal was a masterpiece and so many lines of dialogue literally haunt me in my waking hours. I'll be drinking a cup of black and think - "I've given up good and evil for behaviorism" even thought this has nothing to do with me??? WHY DO YOU LIVE IN MY PSYCHE??
Who remembers a “True calling” tv show from 2003-2005. About the girl who works in morgue as an intern, and she’s got power to begin the day over again to prevent someone’s death but only if the dead body asked her about it. Still my biggest regret comes to this show cancelation. They not just drop it off but did it in the middle of the 2nd season, during a Christmas holidays.
Hannibal, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Santa Clarita Diet, Shadow & Bone, Vampire Academy, and Lockwood & Co are cancellations that will always haunt me. Other shows I loved have been cancelled but these ones specifically hurt me the most. 😭
Agreed! The showrunner hadn't done ANYTHING since Attack the Block and it was so good to see him back and absolutely killing it. He and the cast and crew deserved so much better.
JMS -+ Wachowskis was just a dream team, and it was such a unuque show, I'm still sad about it. Honestly, at this point I'm so happy JMS made Babylon 5 in the 90s for a small TV channel, there is no way he would get to play out a 5 season story arc these days (yeah, season 5 got canceled and then picked up by another network, but that's almost quaint compared to Netflix announcing renewals of shows and then canceling them anyways to the point that you can't trust what they say)
Ok I usually don't leave comments. But this video introduced me to Impulse. and OML it was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, and now Im devastated it got cancelled T-T. If others enjoyed this, I would recommend the show Orphan Black, its a similar modern day sci-fi with corporate conspiracies, mystery, just with less focus on trauma than Impulse.
I am still so pissed that Cartoon Network cancelled infinity train. It was such an incredible show with dark themes while still being a fun. The fact they cancelled it because they didn’t want an adult protagonist is so fucking stupid.
Of all the Bryan Fullers, Pushing Daisies is the one most deserving of heartbreak imo. It's pretty much on the top of my list of cancelled darlings. I was surprised it wasn't here.
I watched the first 3 episodes, and haven’t finished because I’ve heard SO much about how sad everyone is that it didn’t get a proper ending. I dont want to be letdown. 🥲
@samanthakoller533 oh please watch it all! I watched it after the fact, knowing it was cancelled, but holy shit it's so worth it! There's so much to love, and yes, it's awful it was cut short, but for what it is, it's still in my top 5 series of all time! It's so charming and cute and lovable, you won't regret it!
1899 had so much potential and reminded me of the Zero Escape franchise (one of my favourite game franchise) so I was bummed out when I heard it was cancelled.... I really do love how international it was - we haven't gotten something like that since LOST (from my knowledge).
I 1000% agree, Dark Angel truly was ahead of its time! I was a kid when it came out and I mostly remembered Jessica Alba and the "dog looking guy" lol. I watched it again as an adult and I'm truly bummed it was cancelled. The closing song is still stuck in my head after all these years!
A cancelled show I really missed was Reaper. It was in the early 2000's and got cancelled because of conflicts with airing schedules against America's Got Talent. The story followed Sam, a 21 year old who wasted a lot of his potential in school and now works full-time at a large hardware store (that he hates) along with his friends. On his 21st birthday, strange things start happening around him. That's when his parents sit him down and tell him that, before he was even conceived, they sold his soul to the devil because his father was severely ill. Instead of taking him straight to hell, the devil (played by Ray Wise who was perfect for this role) decides it's better if he keeps him alive and has him work as a part-time reaper of sorts. But, instead of claiming souls, he is tasked with capturing/returning souls that have managed to escape from hell. It was a good comedy show that ended on a major cliffhanger with countless unanswered questions due to its sudden cancellation midway through its second season.
Reaper's a good one. I re-watched it a bunch! The cast was awesome, and despite starting out episodic, the story became more of a focus, and it just got better and better. The circumstances around its cancellation were truly the worst.
@@didi8360 Exactly! It was, unfortunately, the worst reason for a show to be cancelled. Genuinely just a scheduling error that they couldn't be bother resolving properly.
Dark Angel was diverse, cyberpunk, it was just so fun and dark, and perfectly fit into that Xena, Charmed, Alias, Buffy, La Femme Nikita zeitgeist. So much of Alias did similar plots Dark Angel did. I always wanted a Netflix revival... ! But Cameron is way too busy to have ever done one. I also think the post apocalyptic pulse theme resonate with a covid-world.
She was not like other female characters back then, she was much more like those we have nowadays. And this wasn't a compliment. And Cameron has the original IP now, and the technology to work on that, which apparently he does. My concern is exactly, that Alita Battle Angel would become more and more like Dark Angel.
My dad showed me Dark Angel growing up and it has never left my mind since. This show is truly ahead of its time and it will always upset me that they just went and cancelled it, LIKE WHAT!? DA is genuinely such a unique, captivating show. The casting was perfect, the vibe, the aesthetic… they fumbled hard
Agree... And while seson 2 ended on a hopeful cliffhanger, it was a cliffhanger and its solution would actually adress questions and issues that are current
It was a butchered and vandalized version of Alita Battle Angel, with an unlikable main character. Watch the original, join us in the hope for a sequel, and maybe just read the manga. 😊
@@NoidoDev Can you chill bruh? Dark Angel was amazing and I did read the manga for "Alita Battle Angel" it's good but not so similar. So let us mourn the great show and stop your needless comparison.
More people have mentioned it, but this is one that deserves to be shouted from the rooftops: THE SOCIETY!! I will never get over this cancelation, especially because, much like GLOW, it was in fact renewed for a second season, but got cancelled bc of COVID and it makes me so mad that they never got back. So much so that I want to make a FSN style rant about it, so buckle in: The Society was a Netflix show about a group of teens in a small town who get back from a field trip and discover that everyone else in their town has disappeared; not only that, but they shortly realize that it seems like the rest of the world has disappeared, because while their town is exactly the same, the roads leading out from it are gone and they can't find any other civilization out there. The season follows the teens as they have to establish a functioning society among themselves, and try to figure out what happened. This show started out a little rough, I'll admit it, it feels a little bit like the writers figured out the premise and what they wanted to do with it but not really how to get there, so the first couple of episodes feel pretty rushed, but once they get where they were going, it all works so well. The writing, the acting, the lore, the characters, it was all so compelling, and of course - it ended on a cliffhanger. It was renewed for a second season, and the creators said they already had plans for what they were going to do, AND it's been reported that they intend on turning it into a graphic novel, but it hasn't seemed like they've started on that project at all, so I'm just wishing and praying someday soon we do get The Society back in some way, because I loved it and it was so unfair that they didn't bring it back like it was supposed to...
Timeless being cancelled still hurts me. Sure we got a movie wrap up but the movie just convinced me that the next three seasons they had planned would have been epic
Timeless being cancelled still makes me angry. I mean, at least they got the last two episodes to finish it, but there's not enough Flynn in it for me and I was not happy about how they ended his arc. Also, Firefly ended way too soon and I don't like the movie that much either 😢 And Our Flag Means Death.... still not over it.
Thats because Timeless got accused of plagiarism by the producers of the hit spanish tv series: "Ministerio del Tiempo" (Ministry of Time) that was proven that the Network was in talks to adapted in the USA but then cancelled and made Timeless with an almost identical synopsis. They arrived at an extra official settlement and i think Sony didn't want to be in more trouble so they cancelled.
oh wow i remember dark angel! i had no idea james cameron had been behind it! it was one of my favs back when i was still a tween. i loved max, she was my first "superhero" u could say.
It was fucking great. Sadly, the cancellation had more to do with its creator comitting s*xual assault than with netflix’s dumb choices. To this day I think the best way I’ve ever seen a character being introduced is Bart and Kens’ first scene. Nothing can top that.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly S1! S2 was also good, and has a line that has since been in high rotation in my husband's and my vocabulary ("but you said that, maybe?" Sgt Friedkin, ep1) but I didn't think it was as strong.
@@marianr.2155it's so sad we never got to see Bart and Ken's relationship go full nuclear with her staying at Blackwing. Also missed the opportunity to expand Bart's range after the season finale where she sorta lost all hope to be a better person.
Just wanted to say I just recently got recommended your channel. And have been watching many of your videos the last few days. I truly like listening to your opinions on things. Looking forward to watching your older videos and new ones you release.
Don't Trust the B in Apt 23 will forever be my go to for this type of thing (meanwhile, its dueling show, Two Broke Girls, got to stride the airwaves like a Goddess!) Also, in the wake of Lost and Battlestar Galactica, there were a TON of shows trying to recapture that hype...unfortunately, ALL of them crashed and burned (I suspect because audiences were tired of not being assured that satisfying endings were being set up), including my favorites of the lot, Alcatraz and Happy Town. Actually, American Gothic and Profit are also in that genre, although much older, and well worth a watch (you can see all of those on youtube, I believe)!
Dead boy detectives. It has only been released about a month ago but it’s unfortunately only a matter of time until Netflix cancels it. Which is so sad because it’s a good show and the actors are great. Also it’s probably the most tumblr coded show ever. Please more people watch it so it can be renewed.
The writing is on the wall, but I don't regret my time watching the show. Such a fun, little show. The only silver line I see is that even after the show gets cancelled, the detectives can make an appearance on Sandman since they share the same universe.
I literally finished watching 1899 today after watching you talk about in that top 10 list and I absolutely loved it, now I’m finding out from you that’s it’s canceled. It hurts man 😔
I just started the video and already thinking of both Julie and the Phantoms AND My Babysitter’s a Vampire. While they are both children’s series, they were both a lot of fun and end on massive cliffhangers. And it was made worse when the cast of both shows had *no clue* that they would be canceled. JATP in particular was a genuine shock to the entire fanbase, as the show was very successful and four more seasons were supposed to happen. They didn’t deserve to be canceled and their cancellations are so similar.
YES JATP!!! All the fan push to revive the show and NOTHING. We had freaking worldwide billboards and massive fan campaigns to push the show back into the top ten again and again and they gave us nothing.
I think more cancelled shows should be wrapped up as novels, I had a great experience with Poldark, one of my recent favourites, was based on a series of novels, but the show ends on a random and unsatisfactory note, so I picked it up with the novels and had a great time seeing it through. I get that the showrunners aren't novelists but still, I they could hire an author to write it for them at least
The cancellation of Archive 81 still hurts me. Found footage usually scares me a lot, but this also had a convincing storyline and i hate how it ended in a cliffhanger.
If you haven’t yet, I recommend checking out the podcast it’s based on. The second season of the show clearly was not going to follow the second season of the podcast, but it’s still worth a listen if you enjoy trippy alternative realities and body horror.
Same. After The OA, I gave it a shot because I listened to the podcast. When Netflix cancelled it, I just cancelled my membership and refuse to subscribe to it. They don't give the shows the chance to thrive and be seen. Not everybody binge watches/has the time to binge watch a bunch of shows.
Dark Angel was absolutely ahead of its time. Many shows with the same energy have come out since, it's a THING now, but man we had something cool and special there. Would totally love to see a reboot because it definitely had a really cool premise. Even with shows that have a similar vibe coming out today, I still think this is a unique and amazing idea.
Was thinking about this the other day. Someone was questioning why female solo films don’t work, and I was thinking a character like Max would sell well. Aside from that, amazing show. Loved the lore and cult stuff.

And yet they never consider to compare the marketing budgets of shows and their numbers to get a clear picture I hate it here
Netflix almost cancelled Sandman despite it being them admitting that it was one of their most watched shows of the year because they expected it to do ST and Bridgerton numbers.

Ahh yes loved pushing daisies... was so good
I liked both Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls. I also liked Dead like Me. They all had unique quirky aspects that I liked.
Was just thinking the same thing. There never has been nor will be anything like Pushing Daisies, and that makes me sad to this day

The cancelled show whose loss breaks me the most is Pushing Daisies. It had a very intriguing premise that you'd think would be a dark thriller, but it's instead packaged in a colorful heartwarming world, with an incredible cast of characters.
It was just so unique.
Same creator as Hannibal and Dead Like Me, but way better than those too. The guy really is unlucky
There is solution . The producer should change there approach doing tv series. They need to try more on short series or a one season only.
I specifically searched the comments for Pushing Daisies. That show was just so freakin' special.
hannibal getting cancelled is something that still hurts to this day
santa clarita diet and i am not okay with this too. cruel and unusual punishment
Agreed. Agreed so fucking hard
The hilarious thing is it didn't have the ratings to be renewed to begin with. It didn't have the numbers for its entire three season run. Given Bryan Fuller's track record it's unsurprising it hasn't been picked up anywhere else, and is surprising he stuck with it for three years.
Same 😢
@@futurestoryteller I would put that on the fact that it was being aired on NBC-- it was an audience mismatch combined with ineffective marketing.
I feel like I read that Amazon was interested but Bryan wanted to do American gods first at that point or something
@@DisabledDollBryan said that wasn’t true
I try not to spoil anything but the ending damn, we should really really have the chance to see how anything will go on
1899 being canceled is the one that hits me hardest, It was so well done. That cliffhanger was CRIMINAL. I loved Dark. Such good sci-fi, :(
I don't think I'll ever get over My Babysitter's a Vampire being cancelled on a cliffhanger, and the Hannibal cancellation hurts just as bad
I loved that show, like as far the silly sitcoms go it was one of the best and every episode was a delight
Hannibal too
Every time I find a video on the canceled shows topic, I always here about My Babysitter’s A Vampire and I have to admit I share that same pain.
NBC was like "alright, we fucked up when passing the project, your savior is here!"
It's crazy that it managed to survive five seasons on FOX, a deeply conservative network
I don't think it is that crazy. Fox News is conservative, but a lot of the general Fox content is quite liberal. Their X-Men movies leant very hard into LGBTQ+ rights as an analogy, for example.
The creator likely knew it was getting cancelled before it was announced and started talking to other networks
I wish they left it dead, the NBC seasons were awful

I will always blame Netflix for cancelling Sense8, Dirk Gently's hollistic detective agency and Half-Bad the bastard son and the devil himself 😢

Remember that Narcolepsy episode? I think it was my favorite 😂🫢
Love that.

I'll never forgive Netflix for cancelling Sense8. Eventually we got and end, but seeing 8 episodes smashed together into a 2h ep physically hurt me...
That one still hurts so freaking bad. There was still so much they could have done with that show. It’s rare to get an original idea, the perfect cast, cinematography and execution all wrapped in one but they did it. It would have been so interesting to see the world explored more.
Yeah they really had to gloss over a bunch of stuff in that finale. Glad we got it but still…
Maybe the creators shouldn't have have been spending so much
it was more like 24 episodes shoved into that one special, since they said they originally intended for five seasons.
I hope the show gets remade in the future...

I loved teen titans as a kid, I was gonna comment the same thing
teen titans is forever a hit to the heart
Spectacular Spiderman was fantastic as well... and there are 2 seasons of great episodes and the third season that I'm still waiting on.

I loved that show!!
Yes! And Bryan Fuller has been so vocal about wanting to ressurect it! Please give this poor man (and us) what he wants
You aren't alone 😊!
I will never forgive Netflix for the cancellation of The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance. This is one of the few recent Fantasy series that made me feel like I was truly discovering another world. I could truly feel the passion from the people that worked on it and was devasted when I heard it got canceled
The practical puppetry is literally a work of art, this is without a doubt the show I wish could have continued. Thra is such a vivid world.
Yes that one was heartbreaking
IMHO The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and the Willow tv-series on Disney+ have been the only genuinely good non-animated fantasy series to come out, and I am crushed both were cancelled (and incredibly bitter Willow got nuked from streaming altogether).
Geniuenly still so sad about that
Same! I was so invested and the puppetry was fantastic, I want it back 😭
Hannibal is a masterpiece... But quite literally ended on a cliff. Very Riechenbach Fall. Really hoping we can get more at some point!
an HBO version of Secret Circle would be insane. honestly, give HBO any show and they'll make it into a masterpiece no glaze
Let them look for Kevin Williamson and Andrew Miller, the original creators and all will be groovy.
I swear if Netflix cancels Dead Boys Detective like they killed Lockwook and CO, I will riot.
I think the only thing stopping it from cancellation was Neil Gaimans clout but now with his sexual assault allegations i dont see it surviving
Ope
This aged really bad 😭
If I could cancel my Netflix I would because of all the good shows they cancel and all the bad show they renew. 🤬🤬
Infinity Train's genuinely one of the best "kids" animated show I've ever seen and its such a good premise
I was going to mention this too. Sooooo good! Get's really dark in season 3. The air quotes are fully justified. :)
So glad someone mentioned this, genuinely hurts too cause you could tell season 4 was not meant to be the end
Should I watch it even though it was cancelled I’ve heard great things about it.
i think it getting removed from streaming might have been the worst offense
@@AdamJohnson20 Definitely if you can find it. Each season works as a standalone story, though they have connected elements. The cancellation doesn't really derail the story or leave a cliffhanger unaddressed. It's just annoying because they clearly had a lot more stories they could tell.
Flash Forward to me. It has been years, and the last sentence in that show to this day is an expression of deep emotional pain in my friend group.
1899 being cancelled is my roman empire
Everyone I knew who watched it highly recommended this to me. However, by that point I knew it wasn't coming back so didn't want to get in to that frustration.
It's cancellation is on a human rights violation level
@@bryanfish7303really?? Most people I know were disappointed by it because they kept comparing it to Dark, that was the general opinion
That's Modern Netflix for you... Unfortunately.
That show sucked imo
I will NEVER get over how Deadly Class had an absolute blast of a first season and then just got cancelled 💀 The comic books were such a good source material and the show had *SO MUCH* potential I’m still pissed 😭
Such a good one!!!
Top of my very long list of shows I'm upset about
The fact that it failed when it had the russo brothers as producers… within the same year,,, the russo brothers that did Infitiy war,,, one of the biggest cinematic releases of all time,,,
Right!!!
Dont forget Wayne too 😢
One I remember that got cancelled was Forever (2014) with Ioan Gruffedd as Henry Morgan, who is immortal.
I honestly believe if the show had just gotten a second season theres a good chance it wouldve become one of the most beloved supernatural teen dramas of its time, really so sad what happened with it.
i was like that's a blast from the past. I remember watching it weekly in high school. How time flies
So glad you mentioned “I am not okay with this” I’m still not over it
I am still not okay with this.
Mine too. By now, I'm pretty much over teenage dramas/dramedies, yet that show had me from the start
That show was incredible!
Jerks!!
I was gonna watch it :c It sucks, man, they keep cancelling amazing shows.
@@lousuxjourney And ones that should end already keep going.
Penny Dreadful and Sense8 are both my favourite shows of all time and I will never forgive the cancellations and rushed endings even when I'm 95 years old
Great show, awful ending
Penny Dreadful is such a hauntingly beautiful show... I am happy it got an ending, albeit no the one it deserved.
I will never forgive CBC and Netflix for Anne with an E's cancellation. Never.
I'm still angry with netflix for this! Anne with an E was one of the rare shows that was near-perfect!
It was the type of show that deserved at least 1 more season to wrap it up. It was my comfort show im still devastated
Me neither, it really had engaging plots and likable characters, and it got axed far too soon. We never even got to see Anne and Gilbert as a couple.
it deserved AT least 1 season like they have the money
@@trinaq Wasn't she suppose to be a lesbian? I couldn't go through the first ep. She was more annoying that even the book origin
You had me at Hannibal. Almost lost me at Secret Circle. But brought me back in with Dark Angel. Good job!
Lockwood & Co needed more seasons.
I would have loved L&Co having three seasons to fit give certain scenes in the hollow boy, the creeping shadow and empty grave their due
Julie and the phantoms was a Netflix reboot targeted towards young teens. I personally really liked it because of its exploration of music, grief and death while having fun and interesting characters and a bombastic villian.
And idk why, but Netflix cancelled the show after just one season, which endes on a massive cliff hanger, and i will forever be mad about it >:,(
I know it isn’t as grand of a show as the shows mentioned in this video, but i will still mourn the loss of this story untold.

Mindhunter being cancelled is just too painful. I will forever be mad about it.
I got 3 episodes in when I found out about the cancellation and stopped watching. SMH

I remember - we got the whole lot of episodes when it aired in the UK
Yes I remember that show it was good but totally underrated
And in a huge Cliffhanger!!

Santa Clarita Diet was so good!!
Aawww A fellow Dirk Gently enjoyer ❤
Inside Job cancellation also hurt me. The fact that they had a really likeable female lead like Reagan was my favorite part of the show
Dirk Gently was so unique! I love that show! I even looked for petitions to sign to have it renewed when they cancelled it lol
Santa Clarita Diet was a GEM 😭
1899, Inside Job and Shadow and Bone hurt. These all hurt.
The cancellation of Lockwood & Co did actually hurt me quite a bit
Yeah, that was really hard, it's such a great show and book series.🥲
that cancellation alongside first kill was what led to me cancelling my subscription. You can't trust Netflix with anything anymore
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I was particularly upset on behalf of the main cast. Those kids did such a great job, they deserved better.
Yessss omg 😢
Agreed! The showrunner hadn't done ANYTHING since Attack the Block and it was so good to see him back and absolutely killing it. He and the cast and crew deserved so much better.
I know it got a movie to wrap it up but sense 8 fuckin deserved at least one more season. Genuinely so unique and amazing
JMS -+ Wachowskis was just a dream team, and it was such a unuque show, I'm still sad about it. Honestly, at this point I'm so happy JMS made Babylon 5 in the 90s for a small TV channel, there is no way he would get to play out a 5 season story arc these days (yeah, season 5 got canceled and then picked up by another network, but that's almost quaint compared to Netflix announcing renewals of shows and then canceling them anyways to the point that you can't trust what they say)
sense8 was so fucking cool i was so hyped during season 2, couldn't wait to see what they did with the mothers... at least we got a finale movie
Sense8 is my fucking roman empire. The movie was good but it ended far too soon
It was like community - it shoulda had 8 seasons and a movie!
Omg im so glad you mentioned the secret circle ! Ive been talking about this since when it got originally cancelled
I will never get over "I am not okay with this" and "GLOW"s cancellations.
Also, since we got X-Men '97, there might still be hope for a "Spectactular Spider-Man" revival down the line
GLOW’s cancellation pissed me off so much. They were already filming the last season!!!
I still haven't recovered from what Netflix did to 1899, this was a crime against art.
And thus by extension, HUMANITY
I don't know if I should watch the one season, I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.
Even better, it was written off and the only way to see it is if you pirate it.
Omg this! It was such a good show and I think it could have wrapped up with just one more season (Amelia’s season)
Of all the Bryan Fullers, Pushing Daisies is the one most deserving of heartbreak imo. It's pretty much on the top of my list of cancelled darlings. I was surprised it wasn't here.
Great show 😢
I didn’t realize that was Bryan!!! Cool
There's a part of my heart that is devoted to Pushing Daisies. I definitely expected it to be here too, if only to fulfill the "rule of threes".

So much so that I want to make a FSN style rant about it, so buckle in:
The Society was a Netflix show about a group of teens in a small town who get back from a field trip and discover that everyone else in their town has disappeared; not only that, but they shortly realize that it seems like the rest of the world has disappeared, because while their town is exactly the same, the roads leading out from it are gone and they can't find any other civilization out there.
Respect for including the Secret Circle. The only bad thing about the show is how slow the magic is.
Timeless being cancelled still hurts me. Sure we got a movie wrap up but the movie just convinced me that the next three seasons they had planned would have been epic
I like the way it leaves the opening for another series down the line
Timeless being cancelled still makes me angry. I mean, at least they got the last two episodes to finish it, but there's not enough Flynn in it for me and I was not happy about how they ended his arc.
Also, Firefly ended way too soon and I don't like the movie that much either 😢
And Our Flag Means Death.... still not over it.
Dirk Gently's Detective Agency is the cancellation that broke my heart. Only got 2 seasons, it was just a unique gem.
