    8850 with factory 30.5x32 duals & a 3 point - a rare tractor - pulling two 5x18 - 3200 plows .... Just Awesome! Thanks for the video

    I worked for a large farmer back in the 80's , he bought an 8850 with a 60' feild cultivator an believe it was a 335 heavey disc. I remember when we went the field an drop that we 60' field cultivator in the ground , I never seen a tractor wheel hop like that one did , had the cultivator to deep we got the depth set an it really struggled ta pull the cultivator at 370 hp , so out came the wire snippers , wrench an screw driver an about a half turn on the pump an Holly s__t !!! This thing would pull that 60' feild cultivator 9 mph !! We got a rain the next day an decided we better take it in an fing out how far we turned it up an put a exhaust gas temperature gauge on it so we wouldn't melt the motor down , first time I've ever seen a tire flat on a dyno !! 530 .7 hp . The tractor held 240 gallons of fuel an it emptied those tanks every day ! I ran this tractor for five years , about 3200 hours , we had one injector leak , I moved on to different job an that next year as I was told at around 3400 hours the transmission went out which was the biggest down fall for that tractor . It only came with the quad range transmission witch in my opinion was a junk transmission, never heard of anybody getting more than 3500 hrs out of one those . The tractor was a monster for the early 80's , fun ta drive an I had no problem staying ahead of a 24 row planter ! Tractor had dueled 24.5 tires

    Enjoyed it. Great looking soil. Looked like it was pulling pretty hard. I wish we could have heard the tractor :-)

    Beautiful 8850 one of my all-time favorite JD's

      Why? It's reputation is terrible, not dependable with it's V8. I like the idea of it, 300+ HP 1970s JD in this generation, it would have been awesome. With a big straight 6.

      Dave Schott The soil looks to be fairly heavy clay, notice how the plow brings up some yellow sub-soil at times.
      That yellow clay you can make bricks with it. The JD just moves steadily along. I’d love to plow with that set up all day long.

      Yeah, it looks a whole lot like plowing after soybeans have been harvested. It looks like rows of soybean stubble that is being turned over.

      Carl Bloomquist, I love the looks of that tractor, but even as a John Deere fan I’ve got to say they were shit, motor and trans problems abound and heavy servicing sucked. Stiegers and Versitles were much better. We found out the hard way and still drive stiegers for 4wd and JD for everything else.

    Imagine a day and time when you can drive a 10 bottom reversible plow(?)! That would be insane.

    For some reason there was music playing instead of the sound of the tractor?

    • @nellsonstout7001
      @nellsonstout7001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s how it is with drone footage. The only good option is to film sound at ground level and overlay it with video footage

    • @AdamGaj

      Kristaps Ozolins it is grass sod that is being broken out of extremely heavy clay soil. Also there wasn’t any adjustment done to the plow for this clip. It had been pulled out of the trees and hooked up for fun to see the old 8850 plow.

      Only one disc on the rear, rest of the furrows don't have uniform edges as the furrow side is being ripped out(not a problem in tillage stubble but a disaster in permanent grassland), plus no skimmers to knock the outside edge of the furrow off as its being turned over to leave trash at the bottom of the furrow.
      So in conclusion this plough is doing pretty well considering.

    Too bad they put a lousy V8 in this beast instead of a straight 6. It was so bad it hardly counted as a tractor.

    • @Blackearthexcavationandtiling
      @Blackearthexcavationandtiling 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      False Statement .... The 955 was a great engine - it was the lack of the tractor having frame rails that caused issues ... The 955 V8 was also used in other JD equipment such as wheel loader - it held up great - many exceed 15,000 hours between overhauls .... The 8650 - with the 619 - was a much worse engine that the 955 V8 used in the 8850 .....

    The 8850 engine cost Deere a ton of money and a black eye to boot. How they could not have reinforced the frames of the engine mounts in their 4WD tractors cost farmers Millions of dollars in repairs.
    Kinze manufacturing knew instantly what to do to correct this 20+ year problem. Shame on John Deere for this mistake.
