      My dog got under our Durango and chew cables that I can't find the name of it at all. It is not the O2 downstream sensor, it is the cable that it is connected to. O2 connects to exhaust and the plastic clip connects to (name unknown) cable which goes to the transmission.
      If anyone reads this and can direct me in the proper direction, I would be incredibly grateful. It is the first time Mr. Googlepants and Mr. TH-cam don't seem to have the answer.

    My list based on experience is 1. Ball joints 2. Front driveshaft CV 3. Heat blower resistor plug 4. Braided hp fuel line leaks with age, and its directly over the exhaust, so starts a fire.
    There’s other problems, but these are particularly acute on these gen 1 Durangos.

    I loved my 2003 Durango. Sometimes I had to tap on the side of transmission to get it start, and I had to replace ball joints, wheel bearings, window regulator cables, AC compressor clutch, radiator, and when I had to replace the exhaust manifold bolts and muffler I just slapped a whole new performance exhaust on it. Never replaced the front driveshaft. It could go drive down a road with 6 inches of unplowed snow in rear wheel drive so I figured what's the point. I'd still be driving it if some guy had decided to NOT slam into the side of it.

    I've got '99 4x4 Durango, had to work on several of those issues plus many, many more. Current issue is ABS sensors. Thanks for the tip on the MAP sensor, mine rarely starts with less than three tries and it's been like that since I bought it in 2010. I'll have to check into that. At this point I think the biggest issue is that I should've bought something else.

      ABS going on and off at random? Had this EXACT same issue with my '01. It was the ABS computer itself, not any of the sensors. Shops were quoting me $1000+ to rebuild the ABS which was absurd. Got a replacement computer from the junkyard for $30, fixed it and never happened again. Opened up the old one, and a capacitor had lifted from the circuit board, probably causing the issue.

      Currently sitting in my 2000 4.7 magnum SLT Plus. Loooovely to drive. Just hit 150,000 yesterday. BUT, I’ve had to replace;
      O2 sensor. 2 of them.
      Throttle sensor.
      Cooling fan
      Radiator (it randomly cracked but thankfully was under a lifetime radiator from the last time it broke in a small bumper bump.)
      Valve stem seals (not done yet)
      Carbon clean from seal leak.
      Driver seat has a little back and forth play.
      Aaaaand the inside door trim is loose from when the drivers side window busted and got replaced at home…..
      But I got an after market K&N air filter and muffler box…. Sounds nice… lol but aaaaall original except those and sound system and all terrain tires.

    I had a 1998, and I can share some experience,
    First, if you ever have to replace the U-Joints, take them to someone to have them done, reason being, Dodge used loc tite on the caps, meaning they are a bear to get off.
    Second, the luggage rack trim screws go straight through the roof and into the cab, take the trim off and use silicone to seal it.
    Third, I had a 5.9L with what I thought was the factory transmission, but come to find out someone put a 42RE instead of the 46 RE which is what was supposed to be there and none of the shift linkage bracketry is interchangeable.
    Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

    My parents had a 99 with the 5.9 and 4wd, transmission went out twice in 5 years. Considering the bad reputation chrysler has overall for their transmissions in this era, weird that the transmission didn't even make the list. Considering the cost, I would say it's a "top" problem, moreso than any of these.

I do have to say that it was Pep Boys who changed everything and they said they put a lot of the parts on ther for free like the break pads and two other parts. I paid for the master cylinder and new tires bc whem I bought it, it had weather rotted tires and breaks wouldnt apply correctly. When I got her back the first issue I memtioned started happening so I I dont know if it was Pep Boys or just something that would have happened later on anyways. Any info would be appreciated 👍

    Thank you for doing a video on this, especially shortly after requesting if your crew could do one. For i own one myself right now and am trying to make sure if any of these issues are happening I can fix it asap. 2 questions though. How to stop oil burning or what could cause it on one of these? I replace the valve gasket covers and cleaned the throttle body but its burning about a quarter of oil every 5-800 miles. Second question is low idle from time to time after engine is hot it drops from 600 rpms to 480 or so rpms, would that possibly be the throttle body sensor going bad or my maps sensor?

    • @daymianhayes2493
      @daymianhayes2493 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cause of your oil burning is most likely your valve seals. I just rebuilt my 4.7 at 200k just as preventative maintenance. The valve seals were definitely shot. The timing chain guides were also on their last leg. Everything else looked really clean for 200k. The cause of your low idle is most likely your (IAC) Idle Air Control Valve, which is cheap and easy to replace.

    • @markk3652
      @markk3652 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Intake plenum gasket. There's a gasket under the intake manifold that lets go, and is probably the root cause of both the oil loss and the low idle. My 2003 had this issue, and the gasket replacement solved it.

    I own two Durango SUVs (150k and 212K miles). Both have problems with window "regulators" (electric window motor assemblies). Radiators have needed to be replaced on both as the plastic endcap fails. Both have required "freeze plugs" replaced due to rust-through leaks. Both have had the plastic on the center console crack and fail. One has had a failure of the Catalytic converter at 150K miles. The rest are regular maintenance items such as thermostat, hoses, belts.

      Pull sparkplugs and fuse for fuel pump. Crank engine to eject coolant from cylinders. A quick crank should do it, give it a blast of compressed air down the sparkplug holes in the head, and also a short spray of wd40 to displace any rust causing moisture in the cylinder. Put it back together and run it.

One question I do have to ask for everyone is Why does the oil pressure sender or oil pump fluctuate??? I know its a constant question but acceleration is fine but braking, oil gauge will drop to almost 40 then when acceleration its normal. How do we fix that or is that how dodge built this SUV. Thank you.

    • @paulallison6689
      @paulallison6689 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's a 4.7 in it (ya can tell simply by the big square boxy black plastic intake box on top...the 5.2 & 5.9 Magnum's with the carb style throttle bodies on 'em have the MUCH smaller round ones on 'em)...& yeah, the 4.7's have some well known issues! Most all of which are primarily due to neglected proper servicing/maintaining of 'em. If ya run the correct weight & viscosity of oil (5W20...NOTHIN' thicker or heavier than that!!) in 'em, use the right coolant in 'em (the orange stuff & not the normal green stuff), change the oil religiously every 3,000 miles, & DO NOT keep drivin' 'em if/when the temp gauge creeps up very much over 210-220° (at the very most) they're fairly good engines & usually won't be too troublesome...but if ya neglect 'em or overheat 'em they'll definitely become a major problem in a hurry!!
      Yeah, the oil pressure fluctuation is somewhat normal...if/when it goes totally wacky (by either reading wayyy low or wayyy high) it's most usually because the oil pressure sensor is bad & it just needs replaced, which is a fairly simple, inexpensive, & easy fix...or it could be due to the oil pump pick up screen is becoming clogged up, which is a much more difficult job to clean (or replace).
      Given a choice though...I'd go with the good ol' reliable & proven 318/5.2 Magnum's over these 4.7's myself...👍

It will start back up with starting fluid for a few seconds after the initial 30 minutes. My guess is fuel pump. Any help? No codes on generic scanner. Battery posts are clean and tight. Lights and dash stay on after stall. No no buss across odometer. I know it could be the ecm or the crank position sensor or cam position sensor. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge or I'd test that.
