i have a hard time restricting calories and cutting weight but 'waiting till actually hungry' has been a decent practice for me. especially when going with 1-2 scoops of protein powder at that time I really eliminate a lot of bs snacking and useless calories
If you're not fasting on purpose, why not get yourself some snacks high in fiber? Just an apple would be enough to let your hunger stay quiet for a while
Do you use a Runstar-4 or similar devices to weigh yourself? This scale, along with the handheld sensor, provides insights that my eyes can only guess at. Over the past three years, I have documented my results using 15 different metrics. The body composition analysis is more accurate than the flattering reflection in my mirror. He said a couple good things. He never stopped moving for more than 10 minutes at a time. Get a sit stand desk with a treadmill, stepper etc. lean on the wall with wall squats, do air squats etc all day and don’t sit around. If you eat, use that energy. Go for a walk as soon as you finish eating.
Not all of us have jobs that require us to do nothing. I can't imagine a hell where I'd ever be able to actually do my job and exercise at the same time. For one I'd make even more mistakes.
He mentioned Pavel. The whole time I was watching this video I was thinking, "I bet he does greasing the groove throughout the day and that keeps him fit."
My wife is a carb machine and has a VO2 max of 50 and does ultramarathons. I've needed to go on a really low carb diet to bring down my insulin sensitivity and improve digestive health. I'm sure my dietary requirements will change again, also depending on my sports goals. Our ideal diets change depending on the person, and depending on the time.
Its funny, when you see the thumbnail and title, you get curious and don't know what to expect to hear from the guy. But what you do not expect to hear, is words like ice cream, soda, starbucks coffee and stuff like that. And I get that this is not the staple of his diet. But it makes me think that one of the things he has going for him, is probably being chill, not overthinking ... basically peace of mind.
I was like this when I was younger when I done lots of physical exercise. I actually had to consciously eat more to prevent myself from becoming skinny. Eating was a chore, and I had to eat a lot. It was annoying. It's 2 servings of breakfast, lunch and dinner, just to keep my weight.
He should have also learned that you shouldn't get that lean when your his age or older. It makes you look old. I'm 60 and around 12% bodyfat and I look much younger because I don't have all his sagging skin. His neck and stomach look terrible with all his loose skin. This is why Bryan Johnson chose to increase his weight to around 210 lbs because his leanness was making him look old and sickly.
@@xcoyco I also beg to differ. The OP's comment was about "staying lean" not achieving a muscular physique. You don't have to go to the gym at all to stay lean. This guys strikes me as one of those fitness gurus will not last much longer. He eats terrible. He looks terrible. Doesn't look healthy.
@@jakubchrobry3701 I think all that extra skin may have accumulated due to the fact he has been eating all those carbs with the rice all these years, but not enough cardio to burn it off. I used to eat similar to his diet since I’m Filipino, and didn’t have all that extra skin after I leaned out. I think this has a lot to do with the amount of cardio an individual does daily - for me, an hour / day walking on a treadmill was a game changer.. 😃
Sounds more like a ridiculously efficient metabolism...the RT seems more beneficial to overall CNS function, muscle and bone density unless over-trained at which point those benefits wane.
His Secret: Intermittent fasting, keeping insulin sensitive by exercise and stopping eating before he is sated... And staying in the lower carb range. Which is perfect if you have a normal metabolic profile.
He also has good genetics and most likely hasnt messed his digestion up or his stomach, which plays a huge part in using whatever fuel you digest instead of storing it, also him eating that way is one of the reasons his gut was messed up and had colon cancer when he was younger
Not buying it. Sorry brah. You’re not grinding Costco dogs, drinking Stevia, and consuming white rice on the daily. No one, “genetics”, or not, outdoes a bad diet for 55 years. Not happening. When you get to the point where the food you just ate is literally being used for fuel, this translates to an individual who is constantly working out / moving daily. At a certain point with training & fasting so often, your body starts to eat at itself, so you constantly need to be replenishing, or you will lose too much muscle that you have worked so hard to achieve. It’s quite impressive because it is evident that this is a man who is very dedicated to ensuring his longevity, and is very consistent with his training. The importance of consistency with training & nutrition cannot be emphasized more with BM as a prime example. Dude is a total click bait fa me when I see anything on him.
My diet is 90% or more simple whole foods. Once a month or so I have a need for something like a burger with chips. I most certainly have it and enjoy it because the impact of this over a lifetime would be almost negligible. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. As long as you stay under you bodies ability to utilise carbohydrates, fats and proteins based on you lifestyle than there isn’t any issues.
99% of the guest are incredible athletes. Diet and nutrition is probably so incredibly important but probably more important for those that aren’t the one percent for 5% or better in fitness. The fact that these folks exercise for as much as they do and for as long as they do and have been doing it for as long as they have been doing, it allows them for so many testing variables That at the end of the day, don’t impact them in a negative way all that much. They can probably eat Doritos and then in the interview say that their body needed it or something and their body will be completely fine from one bag of Doritos. My point is these folks that are 5% or better or even one percent on this show of healthexercise such a skewed example
Interesting diet perspective I'm 54 and im probably in better condition than him right now, but I do it bodybuilding style. The old 5/6 meals a day and I also don't stay in this condition year round but I respect him for be able to stay in that condition consistently. 👍🏼
He can eat a high sugar/ arb diet because he’s always moving. I think his gut health might be questionable in that it’s maybe adapted to his eating habits. Maybe changing from one diet to another is a bad thing. He’s been eating this way since a kid and maybe that’s a good thing to a degree. His mindset or way of staying connected to what he eats may encourage his body in the way his body uses that food. Maybe
People who have been active all their life just like this guy always seem to be able to eat almost anything they like and remain healthy. I've observed this with many people both in the west and not. But if this person was to suddenly become sedentary he would quickly develop all the usual diseases, and then need to become a diet specialist in order to feel "normal" again. Even if a person becomes extremely active again, they may never get completely back to what they were like before that sedentary period, as if it traumatised their body. No one in the past stayed as still as us, unless they had a fever or illness of some sort.
For someone like Bill who had stomach cancer , it’s very hard to believe he’s eating that much crap . He’s still recovering from stomach cancer as far as I know , eating crap for that sounds like very bad advice.

Just because he doesn't count calories or meal prep doesn't mean everyone doesn't have to. Most people do need to do that to be successful. Bill has great genetics and does very intensive movements. Most people don't work out with this intensity, or have as active of a lifestyle, so doing everything you can to tip the scales in your favor is essential for success. If I take time off I not only gain weight but I start losing energy .
i have a hard time restricting calories and cutting weight but 'waiting till actually hungry' has been a decent practice for me. especially when going with 1-2 scoops of protein powder at that time I really eliminate a lot of bs snacking and useless calories
If you're not fasting on purpose, why not get yourself some snacks high in fiber? Just an apple would be enough to let your hunger stay quiet for a while
@@minn5459 True but most people can’t even eat an apple lol
@@minn5459 i like apples but I don’t stop there I might lead that into other snacks but yes fruits and veggies are def the ideal snacks
What do you consider as safe percentage of visceral and subcutaneous fat % that is healthy and sustainable for achieving longevity goals? Thank you for considering this question.
Was very interested in when he said that when he didn't have the sugar his head felt funny, he made reference to his childrens apple juice. I find that interesting. That said there's a lot I agree with, I exercise every day, I don't measure my food, 10.000 steps a day or more . I am mindful of what I eat, but it does not run my life.
Great interview.
I love Bill Maeda's vibe ✨️ love his Insta posts too
Awesome Awesome interview
I would have been more interested to listen to his colon cancer story in his early forties. You should do a follow-up story about that.
Great interview. Bill looks like a samurai.
Excellent presentation Thomas, I consume fuel in a similar fashion. I'm 61, not shredded but relatively healthy and medication free.
He mentioned Pavel. The whole time I was watching this video I was thinking, "I bet he does greasing the groove throughout the day and that keeps him fit."
Great channel. Thanks for the amazing work Thomas.
Can you make a video on adequate recovery time? And people in the comments, can you give me your take?
That burning 'sun' sensation is called heartburn.
Genes 😁😁😁...99.99% of people "CANNOT" achieve this, impossible.....he's just lucky
Japanese term for the concept: Hara hachi bu. Eat till your stomach is 80% full.
Dude contradicted himself several times. He just eats whatever he wants and just has the genetics that make it very easy to stay lean.
He doesn’t realize that resistance training is what is keeping him lean 😆
I beg to differ, u can have all the best genetics in the world, but if u don’t bust your ass in the gym daily, ur not achieving that physique…
Biggest takeaway, stay connected to the food as it's being digested. 😎👍🇦🇺
He doesn’t realize resistance training is what is keeping him lean 😆
Sounds more like a ridiculously efficient metabolism...the RT seems more beneficial to overall CNS function, muscle and bone density unless over-trained at which point those benefits wane.
You’re the worst.
He has soldiers gut digestion since youth and never messed its microbiome somehow. 😂 + Mind Gut connection.
His Secret: Intermittent fasting, keeping insulin sensitive by exercise and stopping eating before he is sated... And staying in the lower carb range. Which is perfect if you have a normal metabolic profile.
My diet is Fruit Till Meat or Vegan Till Meat. My diet is anti obesity bulletproof.
He also has good genetics and most likely hasnt messed his digestion up or his stomach, which plays a huge part in using whatever fuel you digest instead of storing it, also him eating that way is one of the reasons his gut was messed up and had colon cancer when he was younger
True value right here!
Not buying it. Sorry brah. You’re not grinding Costco dogs, drinking Stevia, and consuming white rice on the daily. No one, “genetics”, or not, outdoes a bad diet for 55 years. Not happening. He’s got a primary dietary routine, guaranteed, even if he isn’t aware of it.
Ahhh so the truth finally coming out now, he cooks all the meals himself, and he eat mostly red meat.
That was obvious.
Eats like crap, sleeps like crap, doesn’t know anything about supplements or proper diet. He does everything wrong- but must exercise and move constantly and insanely- and just have insane genetics.
And some magic juice 💉

i knew him from other stuff and i find honest what he says but for what we know he may have a strange metabolic syndrome that helps in the process and it has not to be negative for health or just gen. gifted, something reserved for 99.5 % people this world
If you have a desk job YOU HAD BETTER NOT BE EATING A LOT. Working a desk job is like one notch above staying in bed all day.
Cold brew and ice cream sounds delicious!!
This guys a one off freak of nature.
It sounds like he’s an intuitive eater. His body is speaking to him.
Hugh Jackman got pretty shredded at 55 for Wolverine / Deadpool.
I saw Thomas gain 15 lbs just in this convo😮
Well his diet sounds a lot like mine, but I have a mostly sit down job.
In Chicagoland area gyms many older people are shredded just like him. He is a average looking guy
Key takeaway, burn more calories than you take in.
And it has worked exceptionally well for him.
4:29 carbs are for people that go hard
He must owns Costco stocks 😂
Interesting diet perspective I'm 54 and im probably in better condition than him right now, but I do it bodybuilding style. The old 5/6 meals a day and I also don't stay in this condition year round but I respect him for be able to stay in that condition consistently. 👍🏼
Great guest Thommy
I’m dying. How’d you come across my channel. As I’m listening to him I’m like I don’t think they’re on the same page. 😅
Maybe
There is Japanese food fighter who is jacked with six pack. Some people are born different.
So in end he mentions as side point his colon was removed. So ofc he eats ton, it doesn't have time to absorb into blood in digestion.
This guy is on TRT he has stated it in the past which supplements his dietary needs and exercise regime
So? What’s your point?
He said off the jump that he isnt on TRT for some reason @@bernmar
@@bernmar he said he never took TRT in this interview and apparently he said he has in another interview so if that’s true then he lied. That’s the point
@@bernmar Its easier to maintain single digit body fat on TRT then its is natty. Still hard, but still makes a big difference.
@@cmike5572 Nonsense. I've been on TRT since 27 as I had brain damage during a high fever. I was obese in my 30s. Competing in my 40s, my test levels were around 400 - completely normal. "TRT" is dose-dependent.
After losing 60lbs, being fairly lean and having a smaller calorie cushion I listened to what my body is telling me.
I think some people here are looking for a confirmation that they can eat junk food 😅
Yes, you can. Later deal with the consequences.
We need carbs for optimal health
Just because he doesn't count calories or meal prep doesn't mean everyone doesn't have to. Most people do need to do that to be successful. Bill has great genetics and does very intensive movements. Most people don't work out with this intensity, or have as active of a lifestyle, so doing everything you can to tip the scales in your favor is essential for success.
He says he doesn't take performance enhancing drugs but takes BPC 157 and TB500, and also contacted Merrick health which is customarily a TRT clinic. There should not be a stigma about getting your hormones optimized. Anyone who is on TRT knows it helps you feel better but isn't a magic pill that negates putting in the work. I have a real hard time believing as shitty as Bill eats that he is not on TRT at his age and activity level. So I will call bullshit on him denying it.
What a dude
Amazing guy!
I feel my body as well, thrives on carbs. I like to train fasted with 50oz water/pre then ill eat anything really but crave carbs. I'll eat 2, 3 to 6 doughnuts easily. For about a year, i was eating 21 chocolate chip cookies minium a week. It makes me look super pumped 😆. I know it's junk but it's like the body wants that fast burning sugars 🔥. I'm 46 and bounce around 11-14% body fat with out trying.
Bill gets his food from Thrive of course.
I get away with eating whatever I want because the only time I am still is when I am sleeping.
Not a lot of relative information. Just two bros talking.
