    *NOTE* Every PC is a bit different, use this as a general guide to upgrading your own machine. Open it up, look inside before you buy anything, compare it to what you see here and see what matches and what doesn't.
    Look up your PC online and see what hardware it has, what RAM it uses, what Power Supply it has, then consider your options for upgrading.

      I can't stress enough that if you are looking to replace the power supply on an HP elite you are looking for a bunch of heartache. Yes, you can buy and modify a cable adapter but the power supply opening in the case is giant compared to evga replacement power supplies and you will end up with something akin to a hotdog in a hallway and none of the fixing screws will match.

      Yes, the idea is that many people own a Dell or an Acer, and are afraid of the inside of the computer for a lack of knowledge. This is meant to make it "less scary" for a new person to try.

    Pre-builds have come quite a long way. I just picked up a Predator that has a 6700/GTX 1070/32g ram for $1200. It was $120 under what I was going to build with very similar parts.

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, if I didn't have a TH-cam channel, I'd be very tempted to just buy all my computers these days... I've built machines for many years, but honestly the options are so good, it is only worth doing if you "enjoy" the build.

    • @knives6683
      @knives6683 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although I absolutely understand your point. I don't think you can put a price on the building and learning experience you're rewarded by doing it yourself. I just built my first computer after 13 years with Apple products and nothing felt better than pushing that power button for the very first time and watch everything kick in to action.

    • @ZephrusPrime
      @ZephrusPrime 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have built a few before and I agree at least the first real PC should be built by oneself. This time around I just didn't care and I could get the whole thing in one shot and be done. Predators have built themselves a decent rep as of late and I am quite happy with it. Its just not a looker on the inside but works great.

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Simon, while I tend to agree with you, not everyone wants to...
      Consider cars and trucks... I'm totally able to change my own oil, yet I let the shop do it for me and I pay them $25 for that service... Why? Because I can't do everything and I gain the added benefit that if anything goes wrong, it is their problem, not mine. :)
      If you buy a complete machine, and something doesn't work, it isn't your problem. If you build, turn it on, and it doesn't work, now what? It is fine for me, I have a room full of spare parts to play "swap the part until it works", but most people don't...

    Great video. I'm glad you showed some propper techniques for cable management. Taking 15-20 minutes to tidy up the cables you won't need will not only help airflow, it's pleasing to watch. Also in a prefab computer with such limited airflow and heat dissipation this will improve temps and cooling greatly with cables out of the way.

    First, thank you for the way you present your material! Secondly, After watching your video about the $800 / $1000 Dell i-7559 review a few months ago I debated between it and what I finally ended up with, a HP Omen with similar features...4k screen, i-7 6700HQ, 16 Gb ram, Nvidia 960M. However, mine came with a Samsung NVMe 951 M2 512 Gb HDD installed versus adding the EVO. I got a student discount and was able to get it for $1100. I was honestly looking for a less expensive alternative for a workstation, as I am using Autodesk programs in my classes...Solidworks, AutoCAD, CAM.
    I also have an older desktop that I use at home a pre built Gateway DX 4860 ( i-5 2320 quad core @ 3.00GHz / 8 GB ram/ 1 TB HDD @5400 rpm, I know I should have replaced this immediately...running 64 bit windows 7 home premium) to which I added a Nvidia GT 730. So, can I ask if actually adding a 1070 and a power supply would be worth the amount of money it would cost versus performance or should I try to sell mine for a couple bucks and build a new system with an I-5 6600k and a 1060 / 1070? I figure I could probably build that system for around $750 if I don't watercool it and get a cheaper case. I have not even tried to run any of the Autodesk programs on my existing desktop yet as I am afraid of explosions! LOL!

    Hi, I think your channel has a great quality of content, well done! I would like to ask you a question: which parts would you suggest me to buy, having a budget of $200-$300, with the possibility to further expand it in the near future to make video editing and VR? Basically what would be the cheapest system better optimized for the future? Thanks!

  • @hiteshparashar
    @hiteshparashar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    All your videos are great and very informative, however what I personally feel that's missing is close up view of your hardware. Your camera is usually stationary positioned and has zero or very less movement. A close up view of the actual hardware stuff, especially the the socket ports, help very much to get a clear idea of what's going on. Do take that into consideration.

  • @EBJustin
    @EBJustin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice to see you had a little music at one portion of the video! Also, is there any specific reason why it is not recommended to have a 4 GB and an 8 GB stick of RAM working together?

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will be that rare system that won't run right with odd RAM installed, most will and not care, but at least one exists that will not.
      Also, as Renato said, odd RAM sizes usually will not run in dual channel mode, slowing your RAM down.

    I know kind of off topic but I am into F@H (Folding at Home) and am using both GTX 1060 3Gb x 2 and a GTX 1070 for folding, I am hoping that you have time at some point to review a cheap PC build specifically for this purpose as it would be very useful for me personally and would be a slight variation on using cards for gaming where memory is less of a concern. Hopefully this message finds you well, thanks for the video's very informative and great to watch.

    Wow, this is exactly what I did with my pre built HP recently. It had a good processor installed already (Core i5 3470) so I said hey how about I turn this into a gaming PC. Added a Evga 450w 80+ Bronze power supply, 8 GB ram and a Evga 1060 SC 6GB. Best decision I've ever made. One day I will build a new one piece by piece but this should last me a while. This really saves money as I didn't have to buy a processor, hard drive, motherboard, case and OS.

      Yes, I thought that 1070 was rather cool as well! I have run this machine and it does work, so far I've recorded GTA V and Battlefield 1 on it... That being said, the CPU does hold the GPU back at 1080p, however I may test 1440p and 4K on it, but that requires that I use ShadowPlay to record, since my hardware capture card only supports 1080p.

    • @olarubogdan46
      @olarubogdan46 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      in my opinion the 1070 is the best card for 1080p at max settings. i had it and it didn't disappoint me but as i am a tech maniac i got a 1080 :) Also 1080p performance is the most important result since most people including myself only have a Full Hd screen and if that i5 doesn't bottleneck it's amazing for the price including the GPU and the PSU ;) Maybe you can do something similar with the zotac 1080 mini when it's available but with an I7 pc that you can find for cheap on ebay or other sites.

    • @TechDeals

      Many of the i5-2400 PCs will run a RX 460 fine without changing out the power supply, since it doesn't need a 6-pin PCI-E power cable. If you do need to change it, then the one in this video is indeed really all you need.

    I have a similar system (Acer Aspire TC-280 Windows 10) that I purchased about a year ago and I want to upgrade the power supply, however I am a bit confused as to the differences between ATX and ATX V12. I've read that the ATX V12 is compatible with my system. Is there any real difference between the two, and can I use the V12 with my system?
    Update; I finally upgraded the power supply to a 600 watt EGVA Bronze unit. Call me crazy, but it seems I've gotten a performance boost. I've had this theory that the majority of problems with Windows 10 are more to do with hardware than the OS. Most Windows 10 users are using prebuilt machines, and even though we have better processors, sound cards, more memory, etc, manufacturers are still putting the same 250 - 300 watt power supplies that they were about ten years ago, and that's why we get the random shut downs and lock ups. I'm hoping more juice will stabilize the whole system.

    You should definitely do a video on the inevitable deal that is the Pentium G4560, the newest one that has 2 cores, 4 threads and hyperthreading. It's a knock off i3 for like 70-80 or so bucks. hello I was wondering if you have gaming benchmarks for this pc. I was looking to do a similar build with the i5 2500 3.7ghz turboclocked, and was wondering if the cpu would be bottlenecked with a 1070?

    Oh can uou show how yo switch from amd to intel? Or old amd to new amd when ryzen comes out?

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That requires changing out the entire motherboard in the machine (the big printed circuit board).
      Generally doing that in a pre-built like this computer is not worth trying, you need a new machine. If you have a custom built PC out of standard parts, you can do it, but again, you're changing everything.

    I got so triggered when you put the blue ram stick into the green slot and vice versa. great video, but isn't a 1070 a bit overkill?

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      :) I was wondering if anyone would say anything...

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. a 1070 is way overkill for that CPU, I was playing Battlefield 1 on it and at 1080p, the GPU is loafing at 60-70% while the CPU is at 100%. At 1440p it would be a bit different, but I really put this in to test the GTX 1060 and RX 480.

      Thanks! Yes, that is a 1070, crazy isn't it? I'll have a review of that one of these days, but it lets me test a 1070 in machines such as this, and yes, it does run just fine, I've already recorded GTA V and Battlefield 1 on it...

    Hey Tech Deals i have a question for you.
    Will any standard atx motherboard (made by asus, gigabyte ecc...) fit into a case like this? I'm wondering if the screws of an oem mobo are in the same position of a custom one.
    Thanks.

    • @Duelli75
      @Duelli75 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need a µATX board, an ATX board will not fit in this small case. The screws are always the same. But you might have another problem if that Windows 10 is OEM, too. Then Microsoft can deactivate Windows, since the OEM-Version is bound to the hardware. With a retail version you can do what you want, as long as you run it only on one machine at a time.

    sir,there r cases in which power supply is at the bottom,then which side should the 120mm fan face?
    the closed bottom or the open top

      Cases with a power supply on the bottom have an opening to allow air in. The fan usually faces down.

    Thanks for the PS How to, i have a dell optiplex 790 MT, that i bought off Ebay that i want to install a decent PS. Being 5 years old and having added a Zotec GTX 750TI I'm not sure i trust the stock PS at nearly 5 years old. I also plan to add more Ram, I have 4 ram slots and 4 gigs already (2x2 gig) Would i be better off buying 2 2 gig ram sticks or biting the bullet and getting 2 4 gig sticks? also planning an SSd (probably 120 GB) can i use my current 250 GB HHd for storage? Or is it worth my time to get a 1 TB HHD?

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The price difference to get 2x 4GB is pretty minor, 12GB total is a better choice...

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would skip the 120GB SSDs, Windows and other things will use 1/3 of it...
      For $20 more, you get nearly three times the "free space" once Windows is installed on it
      Consider this drive - amzn.to/2jhSYUW - $58 right now

      You should check your Windows license agreement first. It might be tied to the life of your PC. If you are changing the MB, essentially you have a new machine and you need to purchase a new Windows license.

    How about a guide to using WIFI for gaming what's compatible adapter or cards with motherboards what works best I notice there's no videos about using WIFI ?

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WiFi is very dependent on things that I cannot control for. The house or office it is used in, the type of router it is connecting to, the area that you're in, etc.
      Further, the only WiFi that likely matters is for online gaming (just browsing the web usually works fine on anything these days) Testing then becomes a challenge...
      That is probably why you don't see much of it...

      Should be fine. The 1050 ti is designed for low powered pc's. Even a 1060 might be fine but a 1050 ti should really be a good choice for you. If you have the tight PSU then I will suggest you save the money for a 1060 3GB at least.
