Not so much a comment on your editing, but more about limitations of the game engine.
      1. Samurai spent a life time training for war. The Japanese Imperial Army would have been made of conscripts with minimal training. Numbers and technology would have expected to do more to win battles than combat training. The Samurai had armor and experience. The Japanese Imperial Army had neither. Their effectiveness in battle I felt was over rated as soon as the Samurai got close to the first line, you would expect the raw army recruits to break formation and run towards the second line.
      2. Close ups in battle didn't feel appropriate. It seemed more one on one when it should be more like one on two or three. Combatants not in a one on one fight with another combatant basically stand there waiting their turn.
      3. No use of feigns or wide flanking maneuvers. The whole point of cavalry was to do skirt enemy positions. A frontal charge on a consolidate line would have been suicidal. A Samurai general wouldn't have made that mistake.
      4. Smoke. I don't think the game takes this into consideration visually. The Samurai archers are firing flame arrows for a reason. And the area around the Army's front line would be impaired after a volley or two of firing.
      5. Terrain use seemed to be minimal. Neither side is trying to use terrain to their advantage to obscure numbers or block line of sight. And cannon fire was way to accurate. You have to adjust angle of elevation after each firing as the Samurai are advancing and hope you guess right.
      Post edit.
With further reflection on this video, I think the Imperial army soldier's stats were set too high. They have no armor. Ever piercing arrow, every hit from a sword, every blow from a samurai's arsenal would have been felt and sent the soldier reeling. And when you are in a consolidated line, practically no arrow is going to miss a target. And once hit, that soldier's effectiveness is down to zero. They aren't going to keep fighting. They are going to retreat. Which would likely create a stampede as more soldiers broke from the line.
To compensate the soldiers should have had very low health pools. Because the game engine assumes the soldier will fight until dead. So even serious injuries would not impact their fighting efficiency. This not an issue with the way the content provider set the match up. It is an issue with game engine limitations.

@@gehlesen559 The whole point of The Last Samurai was to give an account of a man whose viewed the central government's modern approach with warfare to be outside of how Japan should be doing things. He wanted a last stand. He knew he was highly regarded and respected and he wanted to hurt the government. His thought was that by forcing his death in a suicidal attack that the public would lose faith in the government and they would revert back to more classical approaches to life in general. And he guest wrong. Such things are the realm of romance cavalier novels. In reality, most people think you come across as an idiot for wasting lives and resources on a suicidal attack.

As some have mentioned, the samurai at that time had already thrown away their armor, dressed and equipped with French army.
Even the samurai who wanted to protect the shogun knew that old-fashioned equipment could not defeat the enemy. I don't stick to the old ones, but it's a battle of the Imperial Army that fundamentally changes Japan with the samurai and the emperor who are on a mission to protect the shogun.

Beginning of the end for the age of the Samurai ? I believe it was the end of the end. The beginning had started almost 200 years earlier.

    • @kazu9214
      @kazu9214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

wrong. The beginning of the samurai began around 880 AD in the Heian period of Japan. The samurai at that time were guards of the imperial court, but during the battle they wore armor and fought. The samurai took control from the Kamakura period when Minamoto no Yoritomo became a shogun in 1185 AD. The Kamakura period was from 1185 to 1350, after which Takauji Ashikaga became a shogun and the Ashikaga family continued for 15 generations during the Muromachi period. The Warring States period begins around 1610. Produced Japanese-made guns from around 1560, and in the battle of 1570. Fight with tactics using as many as 5,000 guns in one battle. According to the materials, the battle to use this number of guns at one time will be 280 years later in Europe, so I can be sure that the Japanese samurai were the best in the world in terms of fighting spirit and weapons. For about 280 years from the beginning of the 17th century when Ieyasu Tokugawa became a shogun, the Tokugawa family had been isolated from the country, so progress in battles such as weapons stopped for 280 years. Only 30 years after the end of the samurai era and the end of the seclusion, we were able to defeat Russia in the Russo-Japanese War because of the strength, combat skills, and comprehensive know-how of the 16th century. So many Japanese laughed at The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise. It is not true that Samurai used a sword and the government used a gun that he was not accustomed to. Twenty years before the Last Samurai era, only the Satsuma Domain fought a local battle with Britain, and the Choshu Domain also fought Francis, Russia, Britain, and the Netherlands. Of course, the samurai also used a cannon. The Japanese emperor has the longest imperial tradition in the world, lasting 127 generations. From 1185 to 1860, when the samurai politicized, Japan was head of state by His Majesty the Emperor. Following Kamakura and Muromachi, even under the Tokugawa administration, the appointment was made by His Majesty the Emperor.

    Fun fact:
The Shogunate Army wasn't outdated or backward and their military have a very large military structures (several corps with regiments that has their uniform customized from it corps standard)
like most of people thought (atleast for foreigners) its just that they have alots of melee infantry units.
If you watched some of videos on youtube about boshin war or meiji restoration(don't take much of the infos from these videos) They usually say that at the battle of Toba-Fushimi The Shogunate force had only two modernized battalions with them. Which is untrue because if you say "Shogunate force" without words "bakufu" or "government" it will include the other clans that companied them.
Aizu, Kuwana Ogaki and etc forces were pretty much modernized if youve done "deep" research
And as i said that there are many units so what Shogun 2 Players most likely doesn't know that is the uniform isn't accurate, the units during Boshin wars are complicated and hard to find on English source
so Shogun 2 dev team reimagined and designed their own troops
For Example the Azure Dragon force actually wear either armor or jinbaori instead of modern looking infantry uniform with cone hat
Satsuma Line Infantry and Ogaki clan Line Infantry are the ones that wear those.
Before the first shot fired at Toba-Fushimi as some of you know that the shogunate rifles werent loaded bc they didnt expect a fight. So of course it was a disaster
However on the second day the reinforcement arrived and Bakufu government sent some of other different regular and elite line infantry units such as Denshutai (Shogunate army uniform that you may have seen from armchair historian is not entirely accurate is they ain't their main force at the time

While this sort of portrayal is really exciting and evocative, the real life thing was unsurprisingly different. Contemporary Japanese depictions show both sides with a mix of weaponry and uniforms. This reflects the fact that the Satsuma Rebellion was less about modernization versus tradition than it was about what the power structure would be in the new system. The Satsuma Domain that led the famous samurai revolt was actually one of the main drivers of the Meiji Restoration in the first place. Its leader, Saigo Takamori, wore a French military uniform while leading the rebellious samurai. They were not really traditionalists, they were just unhappy that some reforms had reduced their own prestige.

My first Total war game was Shogun 1. It was loads of fun, but I like the graphics and gameplay from Shogun 2.

Es una lástima que hombres tan valientes como eran los samurais murieran en esta batalla, gloria eterna a todos ellos. Excelente representación y los gráficos son muy buenos, lo felicito por el trabajo que realizó
