Yes!!! So cool to have those old skool visuals with new school equipment. There are only so many stereos with spectrum analyzers so this definitely has a place. Kind of hard finding the older EQs with a spectrum analyzer and hard to justify buying one when stereos have the same capabilities inside now.
I had a 1996 regular cab Dodge Dakota Sport with the short bed. I put 4 Kicker 15s in the bed ported through to the cab with an RV weather boot. We took the cup holders out and put in a Kenwood KGC-7043 single din graphic eq and I loved it! It not only gave HUGE adjustments to the sound but there was a knob on the front of it that had gain controls for my Subs and my high range amps which offered endless setups for your music!! I loved it and wished I never had to sell that damn truck......
Thanks for the video! I saw this on eBay, but wasn't sure how big it actually was, or if I could use it as a display for my home audio, or if it had to be installed "IN" something, or if it had to be soldered, or plugged in, but you just answered all of those questions! Very helpful!
May require a little work to get it working in the car, but I know you guys are resourceful. Post some pics or email me some when you get them installed BigDWiz (at) gmail dot com
Thank you for another outstanding video!!! I so miss the EQ analyzers from the 80s and this is freaking cool I love it I am definitely going to purchase one or two appreciate the videos very much brother.
Love these. My dad back in the early 80's had one for his home audio racks. Used to watch the lights for hours. Make me want to install it in my truck .👍🏻
There is just something so cool and satisfying by being able to see what you're listening to, like watching a sub with good excursion oscillate. I had (still have packed away) a Kenwood KMD-D400 in dash minidisc changer that I kept installed long after I was no longer using minidisc just for it's (nearly) full screen Spectrum analyzer. Love this gadget for that price.
That's awesome! I use to have a Kenwood double din where the second unit was a 7 band display and loved it. The only reason I bought my Panasonic and Awai Decks were the spectrum analyzer. If only I could find a way to make it look factory in my car.
Pretty cool reminds me of the old stereos when I was a kid. Looks like it will take a good amount of work and creativity to integrate it into a finished product. I have a vision of a finished project but usually lack the creativity and equipment to make it happen. 😢
Great video Big D. Good to see variety related to car audio. I was inspired to build my bench top power supply by your video a while back. This thing is cool, now I just need to find a way to use it so I can buy one.
Love this channel!! I had that same Sony head unit with the slide out cassette deck and Sony XE-90 EQ back in late 89 early 90. Ah the memories. Thanks big D!!!
Had an 'ol DEQ-7600 Pioneer DSP that had this display function. It was such a sweet EQ, only drawbacks were tons of hiss and was too dim. Surprisingly, they are hundreds of dollars more expensive now than before when I bought it for $200 new...now $500+
OMG ..you saved my life ..lol I was looking at old school EQ's... just for the dancing lights (Alpine H701) and I thought the display was too blue and would make it look like I had two identical head units in the car , it would just look wrong..IMO..this is dope. Excellent review ..BTW
Cool man. This one will need a 12V to 5V USB adapter and either RCA to 3.5mm adapter or some soldering skills to add RCA’s to pads on the unit. But yeah, it’s super cool looking 👌
Personally I think that the manufacture would be wise to market this with a din size frame around it , to appear as something from Alpine or other major manufactures. Also mount the function buttons on the front , built into the bottom or sides of the screen.
Hey Williston Audio Labs Thank you for the video and info. I was on the fence about these but thanks to your video I am now going to buy 1 or 2 of these this weekend, waiting a month for delivery sucks but these are worth it. Thank you again
Have you ever tried this with pink or white noise (or maybe some sort of easy sweep generator? I've seen them as android apps) ? We've got a special ham radio application we are trying to set up so we know more about what a "repeater" sounds like. A "repeater" is a special fm radio on a mountain top that picks up weak fm radios and transmits them to the other side of the mountain for instance. The spectrum on some repeaters (especially ours) can be messed with to the point where you don't know what you've got. Its radio audio and every radio messes with the audio specrum (FM Pre-Emphasis and De-Emphasis). We have a volunteer group with special repeaters (ham radio) trying to fix the audio so every repeater sounds the same. The end gadget needs to be inexpensive, easy to replicate, and easy to power.
I was thinking the same thing. Some 90 degree angle ones should work. As long as it doesn't got the mounting hardware. I would def like to get one of these. Hey wiz was there music coming from the unit itself? Or just your speakers.
I just ordered one, getting it in 3 days. I saved your link, it was helpful, cant wait to get it, I am hooking it to my home stereo, it will go on top of my equalizer, since the one in it is not accurate.
SO cool! I never knew there were DIN size units like this available. I used to stare at the spectrum analyzer in my Aiwa bookshelf stereo back in the 90s during certain songs. Had a Sony head unit in the early 2000s that had a configurable display that thing was cool too, but there is no substitute for a VF display. This is going on the Amazon wish list stat. Thanks big D another great production
Man I remember going to the electronics stores and drooling over the coolness of those mini systems with the spectrum analyzers and “hyper bass” output. Fun times
Looks nice, but that's not an EQ it's a spectrum analyzer. However, if it's somewhat acurite, it would be nice with an old school EQ so you could see your adjustment like on an Alpine.
Need the schematics on. Obviously, you can wire in a 12 to 5 Volt converter and I am sure you can solder on RCA connections to the back. Make a quick connect and you are in business. Looks like a quick little upgrade. My only concerns are the brightness and ability to customize the color. This thing in blue would be dope!
I want to buy this one! I just have a question before I make an order. What is with volume control? I know it is used just to display the current volume (I would do it with a rotary encoder), but does this analyzer have the function of volume display?
Love all your videos! Anything you post is good! But for your question, I like videos where you show off products! Keep them coming! Much love from the Bay Area ca
BigDWiz Take an amp worthy of a plexi bottom and have one made. Then send the amp down to Shawn and have him wire it into the amp mounted in the plexi 👍👍👍
Big D!!! Thank you so much for your video!! I’m a little late to the party, but better late than never. I just ordered one of these, has a CDX-C900 to the pioneer DEQ-9200 many years ago, miss it, lol Was it difficult to install this in a 12v car audio application? Going to try and run it through a Clarion EQ5746 in an old-school 1965 Chevy Impala, where the heater controls went. Thank you for any help sir, thanks again for all of your videos.
bought this and hooked it up to my computer speakers. plugged the 1 into 2 cable into the lime green audio jack on the back of the computer. then I plugged those 2 coming off 1 into the computer speakers and 1 into the eq. the other port on the eq i plugged into the computer usb. I get some background noise coming through the speakers while watching utube videos and the led's dont jump very well on the right side and dont seem to go all the way to the top, like it needs some adjustment. otherwise, it's a cool little eq that works!
What directions I can find are really bad. Even with no signal input still got active LEDs. EMI? Got to be a way to re calibrate.. Play with them some more tomorrow - I need to have some trust in them before adding to my rack
I ordered one, it only took 8 days to show up in my mailbox from China. my question is: how would a person go about hard wiring this into their car's 12v system without using a USB power supply? I'd rather not have to plug this into the front panel USB of my stereo because I plan on modifying a dash installation kit so that it can be flush mounted in the dash with all the wiring hidden for a clean install. I've already done some research and was curious if wiring it directly to a switched 12v power source would fry it or if the power supply had to be limited to 5v. Also, before I assembled mine I used my vinyl plotter to make a frame for the front panel to black out everything but the actual display.
Out of curiosity I was hoping you might address this but the video wasn't that long. Could this be adapted to show a display of a white noise accurately to test whether factory amplifiers are running full range on their outputs or a factory crossed over channel?
Thanks for an honest review! Looks pretty amazing, Im actually considering buying one, so i can be "displayin'" like you man.. yeah, i know i like it haha Love your style sir.
I just bought 2 of these and saw the link for the owners manual. Both are in display mode and levels active. What I'm I doing wrong? Can't get either no active mode ~ Did reset also
Could you address these questions to the manufacturer AK2515_VFD ? 1. Do you plan to release new HW versions of RTA with the use of a large VFD display in 1/3, 1/6, 1/12 octave with a precise indication of the level of frequency, calibrated in dB, no AGC function, with good accurate ADC, fast CPU, grid frequency: 20,25,32,40,50,64 Hz---KHz 12,14,16,18,20,22 ? 2. would like to have an accurate RTA device, the direction in which it would be possible to believe and not conventional meter toy. 3. Is it possible in this version AK2515_VFD to disable AGC? AGC strongly affects the measurement accuracy of signals, and at different frequencies has a different effect. For example, if there are high levels in the midrange or lowrange of a signal, then the AGC turns on and the lowrange of 8,12,16 KHz becomes lower than the actual signal level. The range of 12, 16 KHz is practically not displayed! Why?
What you are looking for and what you want it to do, takes it way out of the $50 price range. Get a grip, this is more or less just a cool flashing light that resembles a spectrum analyzer. Not a real spectrum analyzer. If you actually know what you want it to do, ( and it seems that you do) and you have some pretty specific things you want it to do or not do. Then you already know that a $50 Amazon or eBay spectrum analyzer is not what you want.
And I agree to pay more. Moreover, I understand well that devices with the required characteristics will not cost $ 50. But let them do it. I'm willing. But there's nothing, nobody does anything. The old devices that are sold on Ebay, I'm not interested because I already have and Samson D1500 and Alesis D230Q, but they are bulky and they can not be built into the device. And from new there is only EVOR04, but it does not use VFD. So I ask, what would this VFD this amazing bulb has developed first-class spectroanalyzer. I'm willing!
@@AlexGeForceASR You can just make one - I've made several, both using FFT, and also analogue band pass filters to get the exact frequency bands I wanted. The electronics are not that complicated, honestly - just a lot more components for the analogue version, obviously. If you wanted to use this VFD with your own electronics, you should be able to de-solder the controller PCB and add your own. As said though, you're looking at a lot more than $50 for a custom job. They will likely never make them, as there is no market for anything more than the nice looking audio analyzer they have here. 25 bands is pretty good, to be honest...
I loved equalizers on radios as a kid. made music fun to listen to and watch. and they behave similar to how fountain water does, bouncing up and down and alternating in height.
Great video BIG D!!!! 👍👍👍 That unit looks very similar to the Pioneer DEQ-7600 digital processer in which I recently brought on Ebay for $545.00 by having the highest winning bid!!! A lot of people don't know that those old school analyzer spectrum processers still go for a lot of money on Ebay!!!! In most cases they go for a lot more than the original price that they cost when they first came out in the early 90"s!!!!! They are a little hard to find that's why they cost so much!!!! I'm still trying to get my hands on a Pioneer DEQ-9200 digital Processer in mint condition for a reasonable price but I haven't had any luck!!! The one that I did find on EBay they are asking for $1000.00 for it brand new!!!! Sounds crazy doesn't it???
I check everyday for a 9200. I have a mint matching cd unit that has been sitting for years waiting for it. Huge thumps up bid D this is the coolest vid yet.
back in the day I had 2 displays on my AKAI EA-M719 equaliser, but the displays were pretty small, would love a full size unit with two of these, shame no-one makes stuff like this anymore
I don't know why these spectrum analysers are not in stereo or AVRs anymore. They made the system looks so beautiful when playing. My dad had a Kenwood and I could sit and watch the light and analyser all the time when my dad was listening to music, and they were so beautiful to watch. 😂😂😂

There are pads on the back where you can solder RCA leads if you have the skillz
That looks pretty sweet, thanks Derrick!
My old CTA1505 Alpine had a miniature design of this back in the day.
Pretty cool but the way the inputs are on the side would make it very challenging to install in a din location.

Thats why there are soldering connections on the back, you can solder wires directly to the back instead of plugging in the 3.5mm
he used a Y connector coming out of the source. one side went to the display and the other provided a signal to the speaker.
I think that solder pad on the board near the audio jack is connected, you can probably solder some wire or connector there.
right angle plugs would of been handy for car install. Thanks for the link to tha manual.😁😁😁😁

There's solder points on the rear for power and line input.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
The good old rectum spanilyzer! That dot matrix display would go well with my truck's dash.
Get u one!!
I like this!! I need one for 25 to 32 MHZ too
appreciate every thing you do!!!👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌❤cool vid😎
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I just bought 2 of these and saw the link for the owners manual. Both are in display mode and levels active. What I'm I doing wrong? Can't get either no active mode ~ Did reset also
Very cool! I am actually going to buy one. Enjoy this kind of video something different!
I didn’t mention in the video, but the visual stimulation actually makes the music sound better 😜
BigDWiz yes back in the day I had a Kedwood doubl din Radio that had visual + factor that would boost the music experience!
I miss these things in the old school home stereos.
Me too
Reminds me of the old school Pioneer or kenwood dsp . Very nice
Why?
You just did 😬👍
What you are looking for and what you want it to do, takes it way out of the $50 price range.
Alex please let me buy your D1500 or D2300Q for a reasonable price!
Nice! Do you think this would be helpful with tuning?
No, just for looks
I loved equalizers on radios as a kid. made music fun to listen to and watch. and they behave similar to how fountain water does, bouncing up and down and alternating in height.
Awesome I love CD players that have a visual spectrum
I know bro and I don’t think many people care too much about the EQ or crossover functions, just want something visually stimulating 🤗
BigDWiz Yes your absolutely right BIG DWIZ!!! Thats the reason why most people buy them for now day's!!!!!
I check everyday for a 9200. I have a mint matching cd unit that has been sitting for years waiting for it. Huge thumps up bid D this is the coolest vid yet.
550 dollars in 1993 would equal about 950 dollars in today's money. Which means it's held it's value well and matched inflation
back in the day I had 2 displays on my AKAI EA-M719 equaliser, but the displays were pretty small, would love a full size unit with two of these, shame no-one makes stuff like this anymore
This is sweet 💪
Im a simple man, i see spectrum analyzers i click like
I’m with you bro. I ordered a couple different designs I’ll show off in a future vid 👍
Id love to build this inside my thermaltake tower 900 pc case, you just cant beat VFD led stuff is nowhere near as good
Very cool idea man.
Analyzin’ like a boss 🤙
