      Hey Ronny, for me this is the best build video I've watched, with the roof top camper design of particular interest given that I'm in the concept planning stage of my own future build.
      Questions; How do I get in touch with Marty?

    • @Dorko85
      @Dorko85 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The best part was the whole thing mate, it was a build that many can relate and share in our own experiences. It wasn’t over the top but instead practical.
      If you want to do one with a off-road camper and Defender let me know!

      Best Part is that they were always thinking about the weight of the vehicle during the build. Even now in the interview they were talking about removing this or changing that to save weight. Great watching this Ronny, cheers!!

  • @garynz345
    @garynz345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This has to be one of the best well laid out and practical setups I have seen. Can take almost the whole lot out for putting in his work gear for during the week, can move things around for what type or length of trip they are going to do. The absolute best thing they have done is had weight in the forefront of their thinking. Used plastic bins and click clack boxes for storage and the weight distribution by having heavy items forward of the rear axle. I don't think people realise the importance of keeping weight down and weight distribution when they are thinking about Touring builds.
    Less stress on the vehicle and far better economy if your not hauling around the unnecessary weight and accessories. Well Done!!

      I still dont understand his monstrosity, everyone knew it was shite and too heavy when he was building it, and what was the point of the dual cab to rip out the back seats? So much wastes room and extra length because of that. This patrol is a fantastic example of a rig for two people that is capable and comfortable and isn't the size of a cruise ship.

      @PeterKnagge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If ASPW was to give the camper to me I would I would take it. However with the benefit of hind sight I see if you are going for those larger builds you may as well pull the trigger and get an expedition truck than convert a Landcruiser into something that it is not. _"If you serve too many masters, you'll soon suffer."_ - Homer

      Merge this rig with graham Cahill's GU with the Fridge "Pass through" ExtraCab- Though even with a single cab you run out of room - a lot of features end up as: "This OR That, Choose one."
      If you really want to Glamp - a Camper trailer / Compact Caravan allows for more kitchen Sinks, if that is what you want. (A Winnebago - or any "camper truck" - is even more of an offroad compromise, and you can't just unhook and recover the 4x4ability..)

    Good research and build with your home comforts, lower centre of gravity and the robustness of old Nissan. I also agree the Patrol is much nicer inside than the strong but agricultural feel of the Toyota. This is one reason I opted for a post 2004 Hilux and got a 2010 model with power windows, power side mirrors, ABS.and cruise control. ‘Well done on a well-thought out unit.that is practical and comfortable. you talk about the robustness of old Nissan patrols???some old Landcruiser's utes with over a millon kms on them number 1 world wide ....in my book the Toyota looks way better.....aircon works way better ....Toyota Landcruiser can source parts any where ......thats why im a proud owner of turbo 75 series ute ...and 60 series GXL ......designed well nissan poo patrol to keep their marriage together

    Andrew from 4xoverland should watch this, as much as i admire the man he missed all these points, how good is the rear area to walk up into. a very practical and logical build.

      As good and knowledgeable as Andrew is (I enjoy every episode), his latest rig was not well thought out. He wanted more interior room for film editing etc and he didn't get it - rather a major oversight to pick the wrong shell. And the electrical system seems to be a huge, and ridiculously expensive, overkill - but I guess that was his focus for this latest build. The result - a heavy and very pricey vehicle compared to this completely well thought through design.

      The Actual Canopy / Camper is pretty Straightforward. Now you have seen their Idea take it one more step and customise it, the UK has totally different use-cases than Australia. (ie. In the UK, Offroad often means little more than down a forestry trail, or parking up next to a gateway - to the boggy Extreme.)

    I think the "Carry me" camper and "tray back" camper models are better designed, because you don't have to reserve an empty space to climb inside to the bed. The back folds down to open up an entrance, leaving the entire interior available for storage.

    Seriously considering a set of his MT ATZ tyres, my step bro said his lasted 150,000km which is just insane good.
    However a lot of online reviews say very poor wet performance and living in the wettest place in the country i need to find a good wet blacktop All Terrain.

      The thing with ASPW anymore, he really doesn't use what he builds for any real length of time. Good ideas in the head don't always work as one thinks in the field, either due to complexity, storage, actual use, weight...
