I feel like there probably shoud be a "Keep level" feature (keeps at 0.0% grade) and "Force cut and fill" / "Force bridge" (like some modded tools in CS1 allowed you too choose if you wanted to)
that would be really nice for sure... I hate the curvy quays... but if terrain tools are free then fine I guess
Seriously how did they not add that from the get go, i feel like the developers just looked over really basic features from the mods they themselves were inspired by
yes and a snap to hight...
Missing the forst terrain leveling but its a cheat terrain costs soil and shit as game balance
Keep level would be a big request from me, just let us start a bridge at 5m and then no matter where we draw it, the endpoint will be at the exact same height instead of being 5m above whatever ground we place it. I've found that you still need to level the sea floor to get a straight bridge....
I suspect the need to upgrade every section of road to add grass, trees etc will get tedious, esp as you have to do it twice. Should be a keybind like shift which means that it will do both sides at once
Yeah, it's a very hard old habit to break
Random thought that came to mind while watching this video... whether through vanilla, dlc or through mods, I think it'd be interesting to see graffiti appear on the cut and fill walls when the wall is above road-level. Could perhaps even tie into crime to generate tags. Maybe even set certain cut-and fill walls to allow graffiti art.
SC4 had that. It was linked to local crime, which was broken down into varying types and severity. Miss those little details...
@@rsWill525 I'm an SC4 fan as much as the next guy. Got CS1 but went right back to SC4. Was playing it pretty recently. With this new game though...I feel guilty saying I don't see myself going back to SC4 for a WHILE. CS2 is great so far about 25 hours in.
With the retaining walls and stacked roads, you can make a way more interesting downtown/urban area.
Absolutely essential viewing for someone coming into CSL2 blind with no previous CSL1 experience.... bravo!
Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant tutorial. I really struggled with my roads when I first started playing, but this has really helped me to understand how everything works, and I can see that there are almost infinite possibilities of what you could achieve. Definitely one to bookmark. Thank you so much.
Thank you. This is exactly the sort of video I have been waiting for. I like the way you demonstrate everything at a nice relaxed pace. We need more of these tutorials to show us the basics of all the new tools and features in the new game.
I absolutely love what you were able to do with cut & fill + stacked roads to create tiered urban areas in this video! I'm always trying to do things like this in C:S1 (mostly with quays as the retaining wall networks/ploppable surfaces/procedural objects combo is beyond my poor PC's ability to take on any more mods 😩)
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Cheers James!
yeah I got a few highway interchanges in mind with those cut n fill tools to keep a sunken highway and have the city above it with roads crossing and ramps going up n down
Managed to miss this one a few days ago, glad I tripped across it now that I've had most of the problems you describe. Good to see more useful and enjoyable CS2 videos these days. Thanks for your work, I usually come away with something new to try in my game!
Excellent video, one of the very best I've seen so far - I can't thank you enough for all these tips and insights into using the various road tools that are now available in CS2. Very helpful!
The parallel tool showing the train line was really useful, thanks!
Great explanation of the road tools Egg! I can't wait to see what you develop in your first vanilla CS2 series with these awesome improvements from CS1.
Always enjoy your videos. Thank you for the nice road tutorial. Looking forward to experimenting with these tools!
Cut and fill looks amazing!
Thanks for these tutorials OE! This plus your maps ranking have me set!
That Parallel Tool is a godsend. Thanks for the quay tutorial. I subscribed just now. I look forward to your future CS2 tutorials
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks for this tutorial!! I always had trouble with building this "accelerate" and "slow down" side roads, now i know better thanks to you. The Building "Road over Road" was also unknown to me! Good lesson learned.
Great video! I really appreciate it after playing CS1 with mods, which sometimes felt overwhelming between all the tools and the janky natural of vanilla roads. This is such a huge improvement. Can't wait to see what the modders get up to.
Omg the Cowan Fill is a life changer. This is the first video I have seen that showcased this... I didn't even know this was a thing until now. I have been struggling with terraforming and trying to make the landscape look less awkward for so long now.... but this makes it look so much better and more natural - thank you kind sir.
that cut and fill example you gave for the raised terrain is absolutely fantastic, will 100% try that out at some point!! can see it being so good next to a retaining sea wall when the terrain is much steeper/harsher than other areas.
Thanks for the clear explanation!
I'm kinda glad to see that your cut and fill roads have ground cutting glitches. I tried it before and got those glitches and I thought I was doing something wrong, but now I can see I was okay and it was just the engine. Hopefully they will fix those glitches in a patch.
Very helpful video! Learned a lot, thank you. Hopefully you gonna make more videos like this about CS2.
Great video! Very helpful to understand all the new tools 🤩
The complex curve tool is especially useful when connecting parallel rails.
What a great tip video. Clear and concise information explaining all the tools. Also, tips that otherwise would be very difficult to figure out like with the quay road. Well done mate. 👌Thank you.
Glad you thought so, cheers 🙏
Great intro video Egg, the tools are so much improved from CS1!!
Thanks FewC! Looking forward to your cs2 content too! 😊
I was contemplating this game for a while as my first city builder. Ive always watched people build these beautiful metropolises with individual trees and rocks.
I like with the 3 way preset interchanges, you can addon them to existing highways without having to delete the roads beforehand. It snaps onto adding the remaining asset of the interchange.
Thank you for the tips seeing as I didn't get early access. they will be great to know when I'm streaming Tuesday. Keep up the great work OE.
Thanks for your video!
I learned a lot of new things!
thank you for this, i really like the stacked roads, this was a great tutorial
My guy, i came her solely because of the stacked roads. Thank you for such a clear thumbnail, it saved me from all kinds of video surfing.
Thank you for the video, was so awesome to see the functionality.
I’m new to CS. Never played CS1. This was incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for all this help, there was so much I didn't know :)
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video and tutorial well thought out and presented, looking forward to your other content.
Much appreciated!
really great tutorial! One of the crazy things is that the cars use blinkers to indicate what turns they do. Very cool and in depth!
I just want to say...the quay roads do not work like that for me...
Stack roads are insane, man. I love the video. Much appreciated.
Brilliant video thanks for posting. My favourite road guide by far.
I’m still struggling with my quay walls so this is gonna help me a lot (I hope).
You make it look so easy though lol.
Gotta say, I am loving this game. So much better than CS1, but I am missing Move It. Once that becomes available (with TMPE) it’ll be glorious!
Oh, and prop line tool
Practice makes perfect! 😌
Absolutely very useful. Thanks for creating and sharing!
No problem, glad it could help 😁
Can’t wait for the next one 😁🧡🏴
Im sure this will help me eventually, probably gonna stockpile this video, cant wait for the game to come out tomorrow!
This tutorial is amazing when it gets to the complex stuff like the cut and fill stuff.
very usefull, to the point without wasting time.. thank you
I have played many hours already, and have a huge city compared to anything I ever managed in CS1, and I had NO IDEA you could stack roads! THANK YOU!
Glad I could help!
31:23 This is a game changer for me to build a city on a island with skyscrapers and villas in high density from the bottom to the mountains as what Hong Kong Island looks like in reality.
Good job on the video btw!
Yeah that blew my mind. We are going to see some truely unique Cities using elevation
Very nice tutorial for the road tools! Big difference from CS1!! Thanks for doing this!🤩
No problem 👍
Very helpful thank you! 🎉
Great stuff to kick off our new experiences with CS2. As would be expected, a lot of the pre-release creator content was a bit generic looking. Now that more of the options and features can be freely explored and exploited, we are going to start seeing some really cool stuff with the cut and fill and stacked roads and so much more. With the lack of props, stuff like layers, zoning, and road layouts are going to be even more important.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll go test it later!
It's so easy to understand! Thanks
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Brilliant! Just what I needed...
It's honestly such a shame there are no simple quay walls that use the road tool like Cities: Skylines 1 has. The cut and fill is great (when it works) but it shouldn't be a replacement when it makes quays more time consuming to make than the previous game.
yeah quays without roads would be nice (just walking paths or bike paths.... where are bikes?)
@@LiLBitsDKmaybe in the next expansion via DLC.....
trying to get the wall to actually place properly ist just too much of a hassle especially since its tech that literally existed in their first game
@@mhgscrubadub9917 the "no water" requirement is super annoying when building at the water since they need to be higher than needed to make it work... which is annoying... remove the "no water" requirement and it wil be much better... and make it so we don't need roads there which will make it nicer too in case we don't want roads all over the coast line
It needs to be a toggle rather than just a trigger. Both would be great.
Excellent work as always Overcharged!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for your demonstration
This is exactly the tool that was missing in CS1
One of the more neat things you might want to mention if you haven't yet, in addition to the advanced road services, you can also add low voltage power lines right to the roads as well which adds a bit of realism to some streets!
Very helpful thank for the tutorial . Love you video
This video was incredibly useful! Thank you very uch for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
Embanked roads are awesome, but I wish the made it a toggle instead of height-depedent. Sometimes you really do want a low bridge.
thanks for the tutorial i will be needing this on tuesday
Yeah me too😂
@@ogomes7424 Me three
No problem 👍
Very good, informative video!
it means a lot to start a video wishing everyone a beautiful day, little but still wholesome, deserved a new sub
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate ya :)
thanks for giving a detailed road tool tutorial!! ❤❤
You are so welcome!
That special technique you teach at 27:14 is amazing.
Essential Viewing, Thanks OverchargedEgg!
Excellent video, thx for your patience, it will help us noobs out a lot.
Amazingly helpful!
Those shadows along the retaining wall are a bit weird though. Hopefully fixable down the line.
Tbh quays should also be a standalone thing alongside the road combos, though I love the cut and fill feature, something that takes a ton of mods and hours to get right.
Why? I never understood the point in quays with unusable space on top of them. As far as I've seen in real life, Quays almost always have some sort of road on top of them, or even a pedestrian promonade. It always annoyed me in CS1 that you can't put a path on top of the quay.
@@Hannodb1961 but the quays are used by pedestrians if you connect it to a pedestrian path
@@TheTaxxor The modded ones, not the vanilla ones. I tried in vain to connect them to pedestrian paths.
@@Hannodb1961 some quays are meant for pedestrians to use in real life.
@@Hannodb1961 I never used modded ones, the one you have in the base game and those that came in with a CCP all connect to paths
The complex curve tool is my favorite tool, i use it so freaking often, it allows you to get defined curves you otherwise wouldn't get.
Your videos have been getting me so excited for the game! I’m wondering if you can stack on top of stacked roads (so you could do a double level highway for example)?
You can yes 😊 thank you!
There are just some basic things I didn't know. I was annoyed that I cannot remove cross walks and stop signs after removing traffic lights. This already helped me out tremendously. And the cowan fill is amazing. Very handy, thank you.
Really helpful tutorial. The tricks with the quays will come in handy. (That was a huge fire department btw!)
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for this! I've got thousands of hours in CS1 but this new road building system was confusing the heck out of me
You're very welcome!
Informative video thanks a lot
Great video, lots of useful tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. learned a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
I so very much appreciate you doing this video for us, I wasn't going to buy Cities Skylines 2 for at least a year's but my wife knows how much of a fan I'm of Cities Skylines 1 so she decided for my coming birthday to purchase it for me as a early birthday gift. Which I really do appreciate it but we all know that game isn't anywhere were it should be to be released. So I guess I'll make to most of a bad situation and try to enjoy the game and community as I can until we finally get the game we deserved at launch. Thank you for helping make Cities Skylines community one of the best one's in all of gaming and for sharing content like this that helps us all push passed the games many faults and help us try to enjoy what is good about this new installment, hopefully one day we'll look back and realize just how far the game and us as a community have come over the next couple of year's. So please keep up the awesome work and I promise to keep coming back for more..🤟😉👍
Great tutorial mate...
😊😊😊
Can't wait to play CSII by myself...
Just two days left.
🥳🥳🥳
very good video , thank you
These tools are beautiful. They really tapped into the ocd of their audience with all of these lovely, symmetrical options lol
No turns doesn’t make the road unusable. It forces traffic to go straight, very useful
Welcome to a simple … road tutorial - so he says in the intro of a 40 minute video training 😂😂😂
Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it, I just party your definition of simple :)
Cut & fill and the stacked roads are amazing!
Thank you for the video. May I request that you do a power plant comparsion for CS2?
4:56 - "I don't know for what reason you would need to do this, but, if you want to you can do"
This should be the MAIN principle of this and any other sanbox/simulation game ever!
awesome video. thx
That makeshift quay wall is brilliant. Looks better than the one in cs1 with the road on top
Very helpful, thank you. I wish there was a way to set stop signs at intersections for only one or two legs rather than an all stop intersection
Great video 👍😁
Cheers big man 😁
Hopefully they fix the jagged shadows and water running through the areas where terrain is tearing. Super excited for tomorrow's release and more videos to come!
I thought after having watched your 3 part series I’d figured out how to do quay walls….I was wrong. Gotta give it another go w/the height tip
The fine adjustment on upgrading roads is so useful. I wish there was a fine adjust tool with no limits to use for any road even without upgrading
Thank you for this tutorial. I think I will use very much retaining walls. It would be good to have them as brick walls.
I will absolutely be referring to this again when I start messing about with the cut & fill functionality. While some launch aspects of CS2 may be a little disappointing, the network tools look like a dream.
cant wait to play .. been waiting for months
I subbed because 17:53. Thank you very much, sir.
I always thought you should be able to stack roads in CS1, I’m glad they added that into the vanilla game
Great video! I love how you explain these things without revealing spoilers for the story. This video will save me a lot of time when I start up the game.
The story? Cities Skylines has a story lol?
Eggcellent tutorial.
