The 6112 are 60mm pistons (2.5" body) with totally different valving while 5100 are 46mm pistons in a 2" body. The 6112 come with their springs because the OEM wouldn't fit on it because of the pig tail choking the internal diameter. As far as springs go, they don't really matter if they are the same rate or close. A spring is a spring there is no magic in it. @@schlormph
Nope, not kidding. The 8112’s are very impressive in all of our testing. We are extremely proud to be producing them. And the set tested was the original 8112’s, not our new DSA’s that just came out for Tacoma and will be available for tundra and other applications in the very near future! The 8112/8100 with DSA will be even better than the ones used in this video.
We ran external bypass 8100s on our overlander Gladiator and it was perfect. External bypass allows you to adjust compression and rebound damping for changing loads. However, there is a very large price difference between 5100 and 8100 bypass. You might be fine with 8100 smooth body, but they do not feature adjustable damping.
Informative video. I am new and getting into overlanding and off roading. Would these high end shocks reduce / eliminate my truck's ability to tow a trailer?
i got 5100s for my truck and they're excellent on road, but i hate them off road. they bounce like this truck did and they feel very harsh on every little bump.
Speed certainly helps, but depending on your suspension setup speed can get dangerous. For example, other than a few kicks and bucks the 5100 looked better in the 20 and mph run that it did in the slow speed run but we didn’t feel comfortable pushing that setup past 30mph in this section whereas the 8112 setup was happy going through at 55mph and our speed was only limited by the amount of run up we could get. While the 5100’s are still very impressive and held together with no leaks during these tests, it just hits its limit when it comes to damping performance when you push them so hard. Each shock in our lineup has a specific purpose for each shock, and for high speed desert runs and very aggressive off-roading, the 8112/8100 is right at home.
@bilsteinUS So does the 6112/5160 combo fall in the middle here, or is it closer to the 5100 in higher speed stuff? I'm thinking I may just have to eventually get a second FJ and set it up for high speed and keep the one I have for travel and exploring. Thank you for responding so quickly to my other comments and questions.
I appreciate the transparency of comparing two of your own products.
Y’all should of also compared the 6112.
Agree, that is just a no brainer it was not included in the comparison.
6112 is just 5100 with a different but new spring on it unlike the 5100 that uses the oem spring

@@schlormph negative brother, 6112 has that spring because the shock diameter is bigger and can't accommodate the OEM spring.
@@schlormph wrong.
That Tundra was TROPHY TRUCKIN' those whoops on the 8100s!! Incredible!
That’s was a sick video and great demonstration of suspension differences
Glad you liked it! There will be more to come in the future!
Great stuff guys
Ugh, that music. Thankfully the subtitles let a person mute audio and understand what's going on.
Any chance you have any videos comparing Bilstein 8112/8100 Vs 6112/5160 I’m stuck at which and from the vid I’m sold on the 8112
Holy crap the 5100s make the truck look like a lowrider with hydraulics hitting the switches lol
How would the 6113/5160 combo compare?
Currently have them on my Tacoma. I think they work really for the price. They handle bumps very well.
I have videos on my page of the set up
We run the same and it’s been amazing. But considering the 8000s series to see if it helps when we take the dogs lol
Do one of the 6112s !!!
Great video this is the best demonstration ever
So here’s the million dollar question. Highway driving and some dirt in case want smooth on both surfaces. No bounce, no rigid
Shoulda threw a Eibach kit on too and tested just for the heck of it!
So the $4k shocks are better than the $1.2k shocks?
Can we get one of these videos for the newly announced Bronco 8112 vs Stock SAS suspension?
So 2022 Tundra TRD OEM Lift. It has BILSTEIN TRD tuned. Doesn’t say model. 5100’s ??
No, 5100s are aftermarket. Anything OE is bespoke to their spec's and tuning.
5100 front and 5160 in the rear on my 2021 trailboss and it eats up the trails around here.
What about OEM vs 5100's?
Do you have a timeline when they will be released for the new tundras ?
I'm here for WEW
Are you kidding me?? Most impressive

which one is better for heavy gladiator ( b8 8100 or 5100 ) ? *fully loaded canopy and roof tent

Do you have these for F150s?

as long as you dont lift it too high and still have stock sway bars and weight rated tires you should be totally fine
They do not, they’ll better control the movements if anything, but as said above lifting it will change how it behaves
Is it safe to say the 6112 would sit right between those two?
6112 actually closer to 8112 than 5100. That big diameter piston and oil capacity makes a big difference.
@@SvonSeggern thanks for the response! That's good to know. After this video I was wondering if I made a mistake going with the 6112 and 5160 setup.

Hi everyone. I'm just looking for bilstein for suzuki jimny gen 3 with coilspring.
Cool thing about digressive shocks, they’re much better at faster speeds than slow speeds
Damn that thing looked like a low rider when you had the 5100 😅
LMK if you need a fit test on a Badlands 4 Door Sasquatch for the 8112's 😃
Sorry, we have one.
Can't wait to get a pair when the tuning is complete. @@stevevonseggern6934
I saw that Tundra and immediately knew it was WEW's, is that sad lol
@WheelEveryWeekend has a Bronco?? 😮
No that's one of Bilstein's.
I want my tundra to do that!
In other words, when in doubt just send it.

5100’s for trucks that do a lot of towing in my opinion. Not off road mofos one bit lmao.
5100 its awsome in my trail boss
I say test 8100 vs 7100 vs 6100
