Thanks for this video. About broke down when I heard my Mom's voice on the intercom as you were going up the escalator. It's been over 20 yrs since she passed away. Never thought I'd hear her voice ever again.

I worked at the Lions Store as a worker called "Mr Jordan." Delbert Duckins got me the job and I met a beautiful blonde name Betsy Lufts, who was goin to BGSU when I was at Ohio U. Grew up near the mall in Crossgates and walked to the mall all the time, as well as on TARTA. That was the place to be... Good times. Thank you so much, Sphexes, for posting this video. As a mid-80s mall rat, I have to offer a tip of the hat to you for this. While my friends and I mainly hung out at Northtowne, we made it to the other malls from time from time to time. Fantastic little time capsule you have here. Did you ever think, "Gee. I wonder if over 10,000 people I don't even know will view thing thing 30-odd years later." ?

I remember a Christmas going there late to try and find something for my wife and some things for the kids. I tried to park by the Lion store (back before it became Dilliard’s). I couldn’t find ANY parking spots. I had to just drive around until somebody left, just to have a chance to get into the mall.

    Observations from a 2020 perspective:
The mall actually has people in it.
People can smoke in the mall.
People are very friendly to this stranger with a camera.
People can be inches away from each other without masks on.
    The mall has fountains.
All the fountains in the mall are on.
    80s jeans are hilarious.
Ah.... what a time to be alive and at a mall in Ohio!

Good for you recording and uploading this! To you it is just a video from a few years ago that is embarrassing to listen to, we all get that feeling. To those of us who remember it it's a blast from the past, maybe it triggers a special memory. That little boy at the beginning of the video is in his thirties right now, if he saw it it would blow his mind. All of the people here are immortalized just living their lives thanks to this. In the grand scheme of things, it may have little value but my mom recently showed me a video someone took of her hometown in the 1960s and it brought her immense joy to watch her little town as she remembered it. This is a time capsule, truly precious to anyone who will remember this time and a statement to Toledoans a long time from now, if there are any, that we were here. Really excellent work.

I kept looking closely to see if I seen anyone that I knew so that I could share this with them...
I remember the arcade and the other arcade called Old towne square or something it had a little pizza diner ... Those were the good old days man gosh how i miss those days so much...
I was born in 71 and Southwyck mall was definitely one place where we made many fond memories at ..
    Woodville mall too...
Thanks for allowing me to experience this moment in time and one last thing ...
I guarantee you that if those people who actually interacted with you on camera were to see their selves in this video most likely it would definitely tear them up ... Awesome & God bless whoever watches this video ...

Yes those were better times then compared to now where people don't even talk to each other anymore and you have to wear a facial covering and stand six feet apart and it's to the point now a days where people don't even want to walk Within arm length of you. It brought back memories that's for sure. Now that I'm 40 years old looking back at that put a smile on my face this year thanks to the guy making this film also named Scott Connell. LOL!

Yo! Thanks for persevering this footage and time. I was born September of 89, this was my first Christmas, mind blown. I remember southwyck myself, but seeing this is such a time capsule for this time and change of the decade and it’s in Toledo. To think of the access we have to cameras now and then it wasn’t common, nobody was posting or sharing where they were back then, such a different way of connecting. This is needs to be certified historical content. Thanks for sharing this! Film is not dead

it's awful here now, I'm surprised though that this video popped up in my feed, never would have known. I'm 18 and grew up here but never knew there used to be a mall, imma send this to my mom she'll probably love this.

I have videos from around town from back then, too, and it’s amazing to see how skeptical people were of the camera. Every reaction is the same, that turn-away, that lingering glance at the lens, the waiting for another show to drop like it’s a prank or something nefarious was expected. lol

Upload your local goodies! People love to look at the good ole days. I was always inspired by the photography of Life magazine. So much of the past artfully preserved. Not that this video is artful, the idea of capturing some moments in time were certainly on my mind when I did this. I have a ton more stuff to upload in my archives.

I grew up with Southwyck Mall. I remember playing in the Anthony Wayne Stage Band there, buying my wedding dress at Lions, and working there. I have some many good memories. Does anyone recall the "Olde Town" section of shops? That was my favorite part of the building.

I’m so fortunate that I grew up in the 80s and 90s, it was incredible.A different world , real connections, meaningful ones, no watching other people do things on screens all day. Relationships were tangible, the world was smaller but the connections were real.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing.
Things are so much the same, and so different.
I was waiting for someone to say a phrase that we don't use anymore, but I didn't hear one.

I just listened to the Decoder Ring's "The Mall is Dead (Long Live the Mall) and it made me think of my days as a mall rat at Southwyck Mall and did a google search and found this gem. This is so much fun! I love the Wolf!! I looked for my friends and I through the entire video because I bet we were there!

This what Southwyck Mall looks like in 1989. Very lively back then. I was a baby back then. As a kid, I love riding the Merry Go Round and playing the Arcade Games before they were closed. Also I love throwing coins in the water fountain. I miss Southwyck Mall, ever since they tear it down I still have these wonderful memories being there. Now they build Amazon warehouse. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.🎊

This was taken 2 years before I was born. I had never gotten to see the Southwyck mall, didn't even know it existed until maybe 5 years ago (and I've lived in the Toledo/surrounding areas for my whole life!), and now I just live down the street from it! Just WOW! This was totally kinda cheesy, but it was also super cute and I REALLY enjoyed watching it~ Thanks for posting this! :D

Wow, this really brings back the memories, the soft pretzel shop, the Lion store and their lions, mom my dragging me around to go clothes shopping, the Red Baron arcade across from the movie theater. My mom took me to that theater to see "Beatlejuice" at least 8 times.
I remember the "short cut" hallway to get from one side of the mall to the other with all the black and white photos. (It was blocked off when they put a new store in.)
Hill's had their food court at the very front of the store, and the smell of popcorn would greet you when you first walked in. (I swear that I could smell popcorn when you walked into Hills.)
Thank you for the walk down memory lane.

I very well might have been there that day. I lived in Toledo in an apartment near Dorr and Reynolds. I had just turned 16 and gotten my DL. Southwyck Mall was one of my favorite places to go when I had any free time. I would have been out of school that day. I honestly expected to see myself walk by in this video.
