I agree with alot of what you said. I have the Hawke Frontier 30 FFP 5-25x56 on my modded M1A Loaded chambered in 308 Winchester and I love it... except for hunting which is why I'm really looking at this scope. I've pretty much made up my mind, I'm just trying to talk myself into getting it now versus when I get paid lol 🤣
I took this setup out deer hunting last year in November of 2021 and man I love that scope. Only problem I had was a deer came in at about 40 yards and I had a little trouble trying to find him in the scope near night time. But, I could see better with this scope than I could with the naked eye. I can actually see better at pure night with my scope than I can with my naked eye and I love that. Also, I love that these scopes have an illuminated reticle. There is no way I could've morally taken that deer without illumination. I feel like 98% of the people I've talked to about Hawke scopes, recognize them in the air rifle world. When you talk to firearms shooters, there's not many people who know what they are and if you do, they think they're air rifle Scopes. This is not the case because if you actually look at their website like I'm sure we all have, you see Hawke has tabs for Rifle, Air Rifle, etc and the Frontier and Sidewinder fall under the Rifle category. From my last hunt I've really thought about it over these last 6 months and I think I know exactly what I want for a hunting scope. The FFP doesn't make sense to have in a hunting situation because you aren't using the reticle for range estimation, and the 5 power is too much zoom for up close shooting near night. Not to mention the reticle is very very small when you zoom a FFP scope out. So i really thought about it and I've narrowed it down to this scope as what I would consider the best hunting scope in the world. I know that's a bold thing to say but I think it's pretty true. Using my Vortex binos, which I could also see better with at night than I could with my eyes, I've narrowed down which objective lens I think would be best. I think something between 42-56mm objective lens is perfect for at night, a second focal plane is faster to get on target, and I think a 4-16 zoom is the most ideal. It's especially ideal in a hunting situation when the average shot is less than 100 yards. I would say a 2-32 zoom would be ideal but the problem is nobody makes that in a scope. You can find 2-10, 4-20, 4-16, 5-25, 6-24, 6-32 but those are just way too much zoom which makes it harder to find in the scope near night time and it's very hard to find a scope that offers illumination too. I think this scope is perfect for hunting and you also get choices of reticles too which is phenomenal considering other scopes usually only have one reticle to choose from and if you do find one that stands out, it doesn't have illumination! 🤣
Believe me, I have researched way too much for my next scope and I think Hawke nails it out of the park here.

Is sidewinder the adjustable objective? I'm new to scopes but on the end of my hawke air rifle scope is the thing that has the same numbers as your side wind part. Are they the same thing but just on the side?
Also, if I am 15 yards from a target and have it set to 15 on the end of the scopes AO, and it still isn't 100% focused. I know the end isn't all focus but parallax like you said, even the front focus part I used and if the image is focused then the reticle isn't, and the other way round, never both focus.
New to scopes so might be stupid questions...
    Good video.

+cwuzii If you are 15 yards away from the target you can basically throw the rifle at it so no problem there :)

Hawke Sidewinder 30 is my favorite scope's, only I have the Sr12 and Srpro retical's. And I went with the 8-32x56 so I can see my target and aim small miss small.

Hi mate, sorry to be a random commenting on your post but I just got the 6-24x56 Sidewinder and want to hear from other owners how well they hold up as mine will be on a farm rifle and will likely take a bit of a beating. Are yours still going strong, survived any bumps or falls? What calibre are they sitting on? Cheers.

@@John--cu2yu I'm enjoying it, the eye box becomes a bit fussy at full magnification, but still usable. I got a Rudolph v1 FFP as well for a 223 that I must say is great value as well, pretty much just as clear as the Athlon in my opinion and great turrets too!

ive heard once you bring the magnification up the field of view and eyes relief snd eye box is practically microscopic. this is why I did not buy this scope. for around $500+/- you should get a better product. the turrets are pretty cheap looking as well

great video mate! can I just ask why do you have the scooe with the most magnification in the rifle that shots the least distance?

    • @Powerpickle68
      @Powerpickle68 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Depends on the target or animal that is being shot. For a Whitetail Deer for example, at 300 yards a 24x scope isn't needed, many will only use a 9x scope because the target is so big. A squirrels head at 100 yards, a scope that goes to 16x or 24x is better suited/desirable. Any magnification can be used but don't mistake preference for need.

    Hi R&L - Very nIce scopes! I have the 6-24 x 56 on my *custom K31* (Link: th-cam.com/video/XBgf8EfEXaE/w-d-xo.html )
You can make a *honeycomb flash filter* using the sunshade and a bunch of black straws (Link th-cam.com/video/boakMIRH4ZM/w-d-xo.html )
I'm still looking for mounts to lower the scope to within a millimeter of the barrel (I don't like high mounts). Although I am a target shooter, I don't like the screw-in covers and would much prefer Butler Creek pop-up ones.
My Ruger 10/22 has a nasty cheap no-name scope and I'm itching to put a Hawke 4-16x42 or 4-16x50 on it.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. And keep 'em coming! All the best, Rob
