Have to disagree with the anti-dancers commenters. This was a 60's thing--to have choreographed dancers on the set, as we saw in the Elvis 68 NBC special. Maybe a bit non-kosher to have them IN FRONT of Brasil 66--but once the song starts to swing with the organ, Lani is clearly enjoying herself and she's beaming from the dancers energy. And what a great song! Sergio, the beautiful singers, the guy with the Pringles can--it doesn't get any better. This is mid 60's nostalgic beauty.
I agree that that was the way to dance but the bossa-nova brought a different way to enjoy music ..to lower the anxiety that the go go and hippie movement were living because of psicodélic drugs …bossa nova brought a way to expand the counsciuness through a different wave of notes and sound that is why it was unique and great master pieces of music ..
Everything Mr. Garrison said. This was the 60s in the USA where dancers showed regular people that they could MOVE, and this music had such groove, how could you not let your backbone slip. I believe this show is Hullabaloo, and if it is, this is typical of the shows of the time. Shindig did this too. All the teens would be watching the dancers movements to see what they could pick up to add to their own. And they got to absorb a kickin’ new Brazilian groove while doing it. Having dancers on Hullabaloo added dynamic to the show, and I absolutely LOVED seeing them go in this clip. WOW! And look at Ms. Hall. She looked like she wanted to jump down off her platform and rock the dance with them.
There are only few Hullabaloo episodes in the archives who are in colour and I recognize no dancer from this series. It is for sure another TV program, but this music was for younger people and for parties, so the dancing reflecting this perfectly. I have enjoyed it very much.
I was crazy for this group from the '60's and especially Kevin Latteau. This is such a fun number. My 15yr old grandson & I love to sing it when we go for a drive. You have to loosen up and smile.
Some time after this, Sergio fired Janis and Lani and the three guys … Herb told him to rehire Lani, which happened, but they never sounded the same. Later Lani left when she married Herb. There was a different female voice, and four new guys who never achieved their previous success.

Listening to this version, then to the stereo album version, side by side -- I believe you're right about there being a bit extra reverb on the mono mix; the vocals definitely sound a bit "airy"-er, as though they were recorded in a larger space. I don't think Sergio's organ has been *deliberately* brought up in the mono mix, though -- it sounds (to me, anyway) more that in the stereo mix, the singers are mixed several degrees "off-center" in that section (appears to be two vocalists on each side) and are of equal volume to the organ in the center -- which works, because since they've been spread out across the stereo space, they don't overshadow each other. In the mono mix, though, I believe the vocalists have actually been brought *down* a couple of notches on the mixing board, so that they don't overpower everything else in the mix.
