It's also the darkest book in the series. (My opinion) It deals with possession. there is all that Ginny went through. The only time in the series it was worse to be at Hogwarts was. in book 7. when Voldemort took over.
I initially agreed with you on the portkey in goblet of fire, but I think it was to make Harry’s death (if all went as planned) look like a triwizard tournament casualty vs if Harry got transported to the graveyard from a portkey in Madeye’s office randomly that would seem highly suspicious.
Exactly like it would have been so obvious that Harry went missing, and if he escaped or was rescued he'd say what happened straight away, like I dunno how people even think this is a valid point.
Currently reading OOTP, and I am not particularly big fan of certain parts like Harry overthinking for three pages why he can see thestrals or the grawp description part was really long. The subplot with Cho could have been done better cause it felt dragged out and rushed at the same time. Also Ron constantly wanting to leave Quidditch was not exciting. However, Sirius being on edge because of being confined to his place, Harry being an angry/temperamental teen, Umbridge, the DA meetings, any scene with Dumbledore, Fred and George just wrecking havoc, the dreams and occlumency with snape, st mungos and neville, breaking in the ministry and the breakdown harry had against Dumbledore in the end were all written beautifully. For me the highs outweigh the lows by a lot so I would have put it in Low A/High B.
would have been better to cut Cho completely. and give some evidence that Harry likes Ginny. It really did come out of no where in book 6. It hurt Harry and Ginny as a couple.
7:13 I get what your saying but interestingly if Barty just HANDED Harry the portkey for their plan that would raise immense suspicion and Voldemort wouldn’t have the upper hand of being hidden from the wizarding world, in his new born weakness the wizarding world might realize more quickly he indeed had returned and stamp him out. It was integral to the plan that Harry be transported during the tournament so it could be a mysterious coverup.
Loved this Brett and I think you got the rankings spot on. Time element aspect of #3 POA was very frustrating and so poorly thought through (bless JK Rowling, but she should never have tried to incorporate time travel in to the universe). #5 OOTP was definitely the draggiest book. I actually ended up hating Cho for no reason And absolutely - when #7 came out I remember being so excited to read it. No other book has had that effect on me since
Order of the Phoenix has forever been my very favorite through my lifetime. However, I’m on a reread of the series, currently on Half Blood Prince. It’s been 10+ years since (I am about to be 33) and rereading them has definitely changed my view on them a lot and my order has changed. Waiting until finishing to sit down and rate them myself. I enjoyed Philosophers Stone SO much this reread. Chamber of Secrets was harder for me to get through but I attribute that to basically having it memorized. Your list is great, but all the slow parts you mention about OotP are all things I really enjoyed! 😂 Great video.
Having just reread the series for the first time since reading each book when they came out, I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed most of the early books especially philosophers stone/sorcerers stone. The sense of humor stood out to me especially with the dursleys. I forgot how funny they could be at times. The later books are great obviously but they lose a bit of that sense of humor
@@JJ_5289 absolutely yes! Rereading Philosophers Stone was an absolute treat me for me. I enjoyed it and was so hooked immediately which I didn’t expect with the first book. When I was younger I obviously enjoyed them but I thought they were too childish in my late teens. As an adult I really latched. Rereading Deathly Hallows took me a lot longer to get through cause I almost dreaded what I knew was going to happen. Such a great series.
@@JordanStar7they all have adult humor and themes despite it being a fantasy series where our main heroes are kids. Certain things resonate with me even more now as an adult. Like the true friendship between ron harry and Hermione. They really learn to rely on one another and bring out the best in each other despite being placed in challenging situations.
@JordanStar7 it's my fav book in series. Its so relatable as Harry feels the anger despair and loneliness in this book so real like the whole world is conspired against him it was a rollercoaster ride of Romantically as well as emotional I love this setting and story telling and house of Black such beautifully written Order of phoenix is so underrated
Those aren't new covers on your tier list. Those are the only covers I have ever known being from the US. Unless you are talking about those new covers I have on kindle. I think they are cute. I like looking at different covers, especially from other countries
Chambers of secrets is my second favorite book primarily because it sets up so much about horcruxes and Tom riddle and learning about the gryffindor sword that is all very vital to the plot for the final book which is really cool to see come together 5 books later. I also really enjoy it bc Dobby is introduced and this is the only horcruxe Harry destroys besides the one inside himself
I feel the exact same way when it comes to all the necessary setup. I think people don’t realize just how much it set up for the future books (especially HBP) . Everything you said and the polyjuice potion, Ginny, basilisk venom, Fawkes, and probably way more. Though I can see why people don’t like it all that much, due to the fact that it is 90% setup for the future plot and doesn’t really feel like it fits in Harry’s SECOND EVER year at Hogwarts, going from being introduced to this magical world and its people and wanting to know more about all of them to having the castle be so dreary and empty for a good chunk of the book was very strange.
Some of the teen drama definitely wasn't necessary, but I've been revisiting the books and was surprised by how much less it dragged than I remembered. I'd probably agree with an A, but a low A.
Ah, nice to see someone who agrees with me that Order of the Phoenix is in the bottom 3, and that Half Blood Prince is one of, if not the, best of them all. Good list!
I am amazed how in the English fandom the chamber of secret is the most hated book while in the Spanish fandom it’s one of the most loves and one of everyone’s favorites, I can’t find any reason. For me the chamber of secrets is one of the best books and is even better than the philosopher stone. So basically, you all are wrong, the chamber of secrets if the goat
My ranking: 1) Half Blood Prince 2) Goblet Of Fire 3) Deathly Hallows 4) Order Of The Phoenix 5) Prisoner Of Azkaban 6) Philosopher's Stone 7) Chamber Of Secrets 4-7 are very close, Love all of them
the scholastic covers were released to the world and the "original" ones (which arent even the original ones, the original ones were red) was a UK only release.
I just finished the half blood prince and here’s my ranking (first 6 books) 1: Goblet of fire (the whole Voldemort coming back is 🤌) 2: Chamber of secrets (idc if it’s random but I love myself a mystery) 3: Half blood prince (I love Ginny and Harry’s chemistry in the book and Draco being a death eater) 4: Sorcerers stone (my comfort book) 5: Order of the phoenix (just slow and excessively long) 6: Prisoner of Azkaban (idk I find it incredibly boring but I really love Lupin)
Order of the Phoenix is my favorite. Luna is one of my favorite characters. Also I had a teacher literally just like Umbridge and I loved the action scenes towards the end.
It's funny, I completely agree with all your complaints about OoTP, it IS too long by about 200 pages, drags in parts (coughGrawpcough), gets repetitive etc... but in the end, I don't care, it's still my fav as it has the highest highs of the series. Seeing Harry go through his turbulent teen year and the whole wizarding world in political turmoil is just really engrossing, and the emotional stakes are so high. Is there a better written scene in the series than them meeting Neville in St. Mungo's? A more hateable villain than Umbridge? Better comedy than McGonagall sparring with Umbridge? A better action climax than the Ministry? A more emotional denouement than The Lost Prophecy? It's a beautifully written, messy character study that warts and all is a high point of the series.
I 100% agree with you. Its such a good depiction of a regime on the brink of collapse and some of the news articles that they read during the course of the book show that really well
My favorites are 1 Prisoner Of Azkaban 2 Chamber Of Secrets (Very underrated the movie is also underrated) 3 Goblet Of Fire (Though I hate when Harry and Ron stop being friends for a little) 4 Half Blood Prince (I like this so much better then the movie big time) 5 Deathly Hallows 6 Sorcerer's Stone Philosopher's Stone (As its known in England) 7 Order Of The Phoenix (I hate that they killed Sirius Black off)
Pretty solid list but as someone who might give a bit too much credit to the goblet of fire, i think that harry and ron's separation fills a role. For 3 years it's been harry this and harry that and not to mention Ron being in the shadow of his brothers for his whole life. I honestly find it reasonable but again it might be bias. I love the world building, the tonal shift, and the exciting and new action plots
My ranking of thes books 1.Goblet of fire 2.hafl blad prince 3.the detly halows 4.the prisoner of askaban 5.the chamber of secrets 6.the filosopher stone 7.the oder of pheonix
Great content bro i like ur reasoning behind every ranking. Glad to see some channels still posting Harry Potter content. Every time I see an HP video it makes me sad and happy both at a time. no other series has that nostalgic effect on us as this series
For prisoner of Azkaban I think that dementors are the best suited for main antagonist this force of pure sadness fear and misery truly shows how this world is getting darker
@@IndigoKnight. lol that's the assumption you make? It's more the names of the kids, and the fact that all the main characters end up with other main characters. None of these people meet someone else in their life? They all end up with their childhood sweethearts? It just seems so ideal and perfect, without really providing anything interesting to the storyline. Fanfic-like, one could say.
when i first watched/read the 3rd book i was sooo cinfusrd sbout Hermione's time travel. How does she just randomly show up in class? she should've been with them from the start. if she starts a class ehile ron and harry are in another class then go back in time to go to that class with Ron and Harry why did she not go back ti the time they clibed up to Trawley and be therr from the beginning not weirdly scare ron by appearing there??
My Ranking Best 1)Goblet of Fire 2) Order of the Phoenix 3) Prisoner of Azkaban 4) Philosophers Stone 5)Half Blood Prince 6) Chamber of Secrets 7) Deathly Hallows. I couldn't read this, because i didnt want it to feel like it ended. The fact that its all working towards all these characters deaths and the end of this series. I read around half of the book, watched both movies and watched videos to explain what happened, but other then that, i cant read it.
A+ 1 - Goblet of Fire: The central junction point of the whole story. It really expands the world. Perfectly rounded, setting up a lot of threads that come together and pay off in the end. That graveyard-confrontation is the absolute highlight in all of HP, the peripeteia. The undisputed masterpiece in the series. A 2 - Half-Blood Prince: Might be #1 if it was just the Dumbledore/Harry parts about Voldemort's past, the cave-scene is terrific, and it’s a good setup for the final novel, but then it fills up quite a bit of running time with the teen-romance stuff - Hinny sucks and I will die on that hill! 3 - Philosopher’s Stone: Tbh, I don’t enjoy it as much as some of the others, but objectively speaking this was such a masterful introduction to the world and perfectly laid the groundwork for everything that was to come while being a roundly written, self-contained story in its own right. (I want to like it a bit more than I do). A- 4 - Order of the Phoenix: In the grand scheme of things, you could skip quite a bit of it, but I kind of like it as a ‘moments taken from Harry’s life’ sort of book, and find myself randomly flicking through this one more than some of the other novels. B (5-7 keep shifting around for me) 5 - Deathly Hallows: It’s really hard to wrap things up and in my heart of hearts I never wanted this series to end. While I agree it has pacing issues, I actually prefer the first half, peaking in the real highlight of Malfoy Manor, the way everything suddenly comes together and resolves itself in the last 24 hours is too contrived for my taste. I can ignore the epilogue in my headcanon. 6 - Prisoner of Azkaban: It lacks in plot as such and while the Dementors are a great concept, Sirius and especially Pettigrew make for weak antagonists after Voldemort. The time turner thing is a bit dumb. Having said that, for being purely talk, the climax in the Shrieking Shack is quite gripping (as random as the plot twist is - it probably comes down to Lupin being so likeable). It also works as a ‘moments from Harry’s life’ novel, even if it’s mostly Quidditch. 7 - Chamber of Secrets: Similar to PoA, this is a bit of a filler book with not too much plot. Still, it expands the world, going into Hogwarts’ and Voldemort’s past and the mystery around the Chamber is really gripping and scared the sh*t out of me as a kid. Plus, Lockhart is the most hilarious character in all of the series.
Those aren't *new* covers, they're the American covers. My brother bought all the books when they came out and we have those covers, because they're just the American covers, by Mary GrandPre. Except we have the Canadian version of Chamber of Secrets, which is the same cover as the British version.
I agree with all except the chamber of secrets. I read the first 4 books non stop but it was order of the phoenix that slowed me down it took me almost 2-3 months to finish the book when I finished the others in little less then 2-3 weeks
Most of these rankings has Azkaban and Half-Blood Prince near or at the top. Most of them also have Phoenix among the worst. And that leaves Philosopher's Stone, Goblet of Fire, and Deathly Hallows in the middle. I agree with all these rankings. But I love Chamber of Secrets and no one else does. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I read all these books between ages 11 to 19. One would think my opinion of all of them were affected by nostalgia, but only Chamber stands out.
I feel like everyone tries to put their nostalgia when they watched the movies/read the books. Goblet of Fire is objectively the best book and on the movie department is the best movie by far like the only 9/10 while the next one barely gets a 7.5 at max.
Here's my ranking I should say order of phoenix is really well written and it shows a wide chunk of all Wizarding world thats ever been plus u can see the depression and adventures with I can say all the characters there are and the ministry is well executed in this part I seriously love order of phoenix it has everything love betrayal frustration hopelessness and beautiful world execution. Here's my ranking 1) HP 5 order of phoenix 2) HP 2 Chamber of secrets 3) HP 4 Goblet of fire 4) HP 3 Prisoner of Azkaban 5) HP 1 Philosopher's Stone 6) HP 6 Half blood prince 7) Deathly hallows

My rankings: 1. Half Blood Prince. Agree with all points here. Perhaps the most twisty of all of them. A+ 2. Philosopher/Sorcerer Stone. OG gets a lot of credit. A children’s classic. A+ 3. Deathly Hallows. Great way to end it. A 4. Order of the Phoenix. Bloated yes, but crazy awesome world building, plus villainy with Umbridge. B 5. Chamber of Secrets. Continued the goodness of the original, as all good sequels do. B 6. Goblet of Fire. I read this after it cam out in 2000-but I was on a four book binge at the time, only having gotten into the series the Year before since my nieces and nephews were reading them. I think it was a bit of HP burnout, but the lengthy intro, that made me put this one down half-way through, finishing it up when OotP came out. B 7. Prisoner of Azkaban. Good stuff; just not a fan of time travel plots. C All the books are great and I recommended them to all my children (aged 12-25) with my youngest just finishing up the 7th this Christmas. So, even though I rank them, I still all of them. JK Rowling did humanity a great work, here.
Goblet of Fire is my favorite. To me, that opened up the series to the wider Wizarding World, the Ministry of Magic, and even foreign wizards. And some of the adult subplots were so interesting, like the Crouch tragedy, Bagman, and Bertha Jorkins. Its also so exciting and I love the Moody twist at the end. OOTP is arguably my least favorite. Its just too much of repetitive moody Harry though the climax is amazing. Its the book that needed serious editing. I like HBP for the reasons that others don't. I like that it reminds us that these main characters are hormonal teenagers. And again, the climax is amazing. DH is awesome. I like how Hermione and Ron come in front and center along with Harry. The last several chapters are ridiculously amazing. The first three books have to be judged differently because they are a different target demographic. I still love the characters that are introduced. But they are overall down there towards the bottom, maybe just above OOTP. I still love them all, but GOF, HBP, and DH are my favorites.
Rowling had admitted Order of the Phoenix could've been polished more and cut some parts of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but the films just came out and all the pottermania started while she was writing it and I think she had more pressure and rushed a little bit to publish it.
I found Order of the Phoenix to be amazing on the first couple reads. But on the countless re-reads since, it’s one of the tougher ones to get through. Length is one issue. But Dumbledore’s refusal to communicate with Harry and the whole world not believing Harry have become very tedious plot devices to witness. Which all lead to Harry constantly having extreme emotional blow-ups at everybody. And tho this is obviously understandable given the situation, it doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable to read him yell at someone about the same thing for the 20th time. Still a good book tho, with everything else it offers.
My Ranking 1. Half Blood - Voldermort backstory, duh! 2. Goblet - Barty Crouch info dump chapter solving every mystery in the book - yes! 3. Order - I know it drags at bits but I love Umbridge and every Hogwarts scene 4. Azkaban - Just so mcuh character building 5. Chamber - I really like as a stand alone story 6. Deathly Hallows - I know. Blasphemy. But the camping sections zzzzzz 7. Philosophers - just the writing style
I mostly agree with all your choices and explanations except HBP is my number 1 favorite far and away when compared to all of the other books. POA would be last for me, unpopular opinion but, I loathe the time travel element. And all the time turners just happen to be destroyed in the OOP…ugh. I will also never get over them cutting out V’s backstory/ pensive parts in the movies, I was looking forward to that for so long and then they didn’t even put it in the movie. The epilogue was the epitome of cringe. One of your best videos yet!
My ranking: 1. The Deathly Hallows 2. The order of the phoenix 3. The Goblet of fire 4. The Half-blood prince 5. The prisoner of Azkaban 6. The philosophers stone 7. The chamber of secrets All of HP is a S tier though, fav book series of all time, it's a true masterpiece from start to finish.
The biggest overly convenient moment for me is in the fourth book when, unlike in the films, Dobby finds out about gillyweed for Harry. It made so much more sense in the movies where Neville, the herbology guy, tells Harry about it. How do elves know how to read anyway?
The Half Blood Prince will always be my absolute favourite. I just love the missions Harry goes on with Dumbledore, The love stories and the heart breaking death of Dumbledore. Just a shame I hate the movie from it…
I wholly agree your rankings. Another plot convenience in Goblet of Fire I didn’t like was how Dobby just gave Harry the gillyweed minutes before the second task.
@@eimere You’re probably right considering he’s the one who gave Harry the idea to fly in the first task. It’s still a convoluted scheme on Voldemort’s part. Imagine if they’d just enchanted the Marauder’s Map to be the Portkey. Trying to lead Harry to his death with something his dad helped create seems more efficient and evil. Still, I’m willing to overlook all of that because the Triwizard Tournament is neat and great worldbuilding-something a lot of Harry Potter contemporaries struggled with IMO.
Overall it was refreshing to see a video posted regarding the books. Having said that I don't see a point in ranking the books. Many of the points given seemed to me a matter of taste. For example I was not so fond of the goblet of Fire but my oldest daughter really liked it and she found the next book boring where as I really liked the Order of the Phoenix. The idea that it was impossible to disqualify Harry from the tournament seemed bogus. Things can go wrong. One can't have no way to overrule the Goblet. Manual override is always essential. I also, would put the Chamber of Secrets as my least favourite as I could not follow thought process of JK Rowling had with regard to having the basilisk in the plumbing. I just could not imagine plumbing big enough for the monster.
Personal ranking: 7) Order of the Phoenix 6)Chamber of Secrets 5)Prisoner of Azkaban 4)Philosopher's Stone 3)Half-Blood Prince 2)Goblet of Fire 1)Deathly Hallows. I'm waiting for your comments fellow Potterheads!!
@@techwithrg45 it still surprises me that many many fellow Potterheads have Prisoner of Azkaban so high on their lists, when it comes to both movies and books. But it's always nice to get other fans' opinions, our community is great.
@@custer13 Opinions are subjective. POA was best for me bcuz it balanced the tone of mystery of The Marauders and magic of Hogwarts. Quidditch section was most interesting and time travel came out as a surprise. Do tell me what you think of the movies.
@@techwithrg45 true the marauders story should be "explored" more in (hopefully) their own series. When it comes to the movies the ones i kinda don't like are Chamber of Secrets and DEFINITELY the Goblet of Fire. Having read the 4th book, when I saw the movies i was completely disappointed. Top 3 movies probably the 2 Deathly Hallows and the Philosopher's Stone.
@@custer13 The head of WB says he wants to make Harry Potter spinoffs after completing the main series just like he did with GOT and HOTD so we might get a marauders series in the future(like 2037 lol).
the reason why the hole school turnt their back on harry in GOF is because: Slytherrin: they hate harry and griffendor so that makes sens. Huffelpuff: huffelpuff has never won they not pretecely good at someting, they finally got some glory then Cedric got chosen and then the spotlight was on harry. Ravenclaw: im not sure there but I think they feel empty with huffelpuff. Griffendor: they wasn't mad that harry got chosen only Ron
My ranking: 7) Philosopher’s Stone 6) Prisoner of Azkaban 5) Chamber of Secrets 4) Goblet of Fire 3) Half-blood Prince 2) Deathly Hallows 1) Order of the Phoenix
GOF movie was Citizen Kane compared to HBP. I will never forgive them for cutting out the best parts of Tom's backstory and focusing on the romcom aspects.
Um I’m not hating but the chamber of secrets doesn’t have a dues ex machena. Dumbledore said earlier that “Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.” He was referring to Falkes. This is backed up later up in Dumbledores office in the last three chapters.
Half Blood Prince is the best. Lore, backstory, the most realistic teen boy writing of the series. None of the pacing issues of the longer books. The lows of Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows really hinder the rankings there. I still don't think Ron's leaving H&H midway through Deathly Hallows makes any sense with his character even under the influence of the locket. Their year long wandering and then stumbling upon what they need is really bad plotting and pacing; the drama seems so forced. It goes to show how important Hogwarts was as a character that the book only really becomes good once they return. With all the time they had to think over things, especially what Harry saw in the Pensieves, it seems hard to believe they would do so little. The drama is high but it's based on the logic being low. I guess it makes sense the MCs are in Gryffindor. The desolation and need for the characters to struggle and fail without mentorship is so protracted that the book is outright boring. Chamber of Secrets has deus ex machina, but i don't really think much changes when it comes to them stumbling upon answers in DHs (ex. the doe patronus). I appreciate the world building so much more in the early books after having read the latter books because the wizarding world really starts to feel empty/scarce with so little of the book occurring within the usual setpieces. I think about 65% of Deathly Hallows is mediocre to below average, in terms of pace, enjoyment, and writing. It really comes across like JK was stumbling to figure out how they would stumble upon the answers and so just had them sitting in a tent ruminating and then screwing up for 8 months; it almost seemed like she was just waiting for the seasons to change and Tonks' baby to be delivered. The highs of the end are good, but there's so little of what made the early books good until the doe patronus scene. My ranking would be: Sorcerer's Stone: B Chamber of Secrets: B- Prisoner: A Goblet: B+ Order: C+ Prince: A+ Hallows: C-
I started the series and never finished it when they were first coming out. I just read them through for the first time this year and I think I’m in the minority but I liked each one more than the previous. 2, 4, and 5 were close, but just beat out their predecessor at the end.
Deathly Hallows was great but one problem that stands out is the actual hallows. they add absolutely nothing to the plot, think about it. without the three hallows does anything change within the main plot? the stone does nothing (other than give harry a moment with his parents), the elder wand adds nothing, and the cloak adds nothing because harry has had it for six books already.
I’m surprised Chamber of Secrets Is so low. It has serious cracks, like the ramifications of the events on Ginny are shelved for way too long, the way no one died from the Basilisk stretches suspension of disbelief too much, and Harry and gang withholding vital info from the teachers seemed a lot more implausible this time and the teachers seemed more incompetent. But it was still a good fun mystery . For me my least favourites are the last two. HbP has some of the best elements of the series in with the worst. Snapes ‘betrayal’, Draco’s arc, Slughorn. But filling out half the book it also has Harry’s chest monster, the least tight plot, Ron just being awful to Hermione for contrived reasons and the romantic nonsense , choosing to devote a good amount of the word count having Ron be upset by Lavender be annoying rather than just have Hermione and Ron develop as a couple , JK isn’t good at writing romance. It would have been better if Ron and Hermione could have been a solid couple this book and been more in the background of events like Sokka/Suki and had the fighting between them be in the last book due to the stress of circumstances. The last one, there’s a lot I like and I think the final fight was a good end for the series. However, this is where the world building kind of broke, as now Harry et al are FINALLY out of Hogwarts and can explore the wider wizarding world and can go anywhere… and they’re wandering around a forest most the book. There’s no new locales and it made the wizarding world feel so empty. OoTP: my personal favourite.
I have read the first chapter of the first book ( Philosopher's Stone ) but then I got rid of the complete 7 book series. I am a really crap reader! I have read all or most of an abridged children's version of 'Black Beauty' though.
I don't get the love for POA, I think it is quite boring and inconsequential within the series. But at least it is not 700 pages long like OOTP. Half-Blood Prince and Goblet of Fire are the top ones for me, when Voldemort shines this series shines. I really like Deathly Hallows up to the point the actual Deathly Hallows are introduced, that just felt like an unnecessary extra step
My ranking: 1. Goblet of fire my fav because i feel this is when harry actually seems like a wizard and has power and isnt just stumbling along 2. Sorcerer's Stone it made me fall in love with the world and was a great introduction 3. Chamber of secrets it was a great addition to the first opened up the world a bit more and drew us in futher 4 Half blood prince this one was great for all the sub plots and starting to tie together everything in the series 5.Deathly Hollows it was a good way to end the series 6 Order of the Phoenix i have always disliked this one because all of harrys logic is just thrown out the window to this day i still cant accept that he would have forgotten that sirius gave him a way to communicate with him and he just never thinks about it again 7 Prisoner of Azkaban the time travel element is terrible it feels so thrown in last minute and opens up so many plot holes it was just terribly done. Also if dumbledore performed the fidelius charm for the potters how did he not know sirius was innocent
You’re in for an argument, but I’m so boring. I agree with almost everything you say. But there is one point where I disagree with your reasoning. I don’t think “but it’s JUST a children’s book” is good enough of an excuse for how badly written CoS is. Children deserve well written, thought through literature too. So for me, that one goes straight to the bottom. And I’d put OotP higher. Just to be belligerent 😝
Children definitely deserve well written literature too - I mean in terms of depth and complexity you can forgive it compared to the later ones. So there’s your argument 😤
I have the one of the First Edition of Half-blooded prince. I thought about selling, but i did some research and apparently, it isn't worth much this days
I personally don't like Harry's snooping in HPB. I don't remember exactly how much he does it in the books (I know he does quite a bit of it in the movies), but it makes me like HBP and Harry Potter as a character a lot less. I get the fact that he thinks Draco is up to something, but I feel like he wanted to find out what he was doing less and j follow him around more. I mean, he couldn't have polyjuiced into Draco's cronies? Ik they didn't know much, but the amount of time spent snooping seemed wasted to me. He suspects Malfoy is up to something, but he doesn't figure out what. While reading HBP, I thought that Harry was a bit annoying with all the following around, if I remember correctly, Hermione and Ron don't believe him, at least at the start. Having Dobby and Kreacher follow him was better, imo, but I don't think that does much either. He seems to be doing it bc Draco is his nemesis, more than bc he thinks Draco is doing somethings bad. This alone makes it one of my least fav HP books. And ootp, though not every ones fav, is my 2nd fav for Sirius' death scene alone. There are many other things in the book, ofc, and if not for HP's constant anger, this would be no.1- which is POA. So far- my rankings are: POA OoTP CS PS GoF HBP
Im 30 years old. I grow up watching movies HP. But only recently i started reading books and its a big suprise. I love books even more then movies. So far i read Philosophers stone Chamber of Secrets Prisoner of Azkaban Goblet of Fire My least favorite movie in the series was Goblet of fire, but book Goblet of fire is so far my favorite... It makes more sense then movie. Now I preparing myself to read Order of the Phoenix. I didn like movie that much and it seems that book is a bit of dragggg Halfblood prince is my favorite movie, watching your reviews it seems that book is even better so Im looking forward to it.. PS. I liked so much Barty Crouch JR . iTS sad that in movies he gets only minor part and we lost him very quickly in the series. Probably most loyal and intelligente death-eater pf all.
CoS: E PoA: the time travel is the best bit. GoF: A* best book in the series. Sirius not Serious Gilderoy = Gild’roy no ‘er’ sound Harry does not have PTSD 😂
Chamber of Secrets continues to be massively underrated
Its basically the most important book in the first 3.
It's also the darkest book in the series. (My opinion) It deals with possession. there is all that Ginny went through. The only time in the series it was worse to be at Hogwarts was. in book 7. when Voldemort took over.
strongly agree
Yep
I love the second book, it’s basically a murder mystery.
That it makes you feel so stressed out is a hallmark of good writing, but the angst is a bit too much on reread for me.
would have been better to cut Cho completely. and give some evidence that Harry likes Ginny. It really did come out of no where in book 6. It hurt Harry and Ginny as a couple.
Oh i hated Grawp. and that point the kids were unable to deal with another of hagrid's pets.
What is OOTP??
I actually ended up hating Cho for no reason
And absolutely - when #7 came out I remember being so excited to read it. No other book has had that effect on me since
Agree with so much said! But I am nostalgic for the earlier books, where the world is new and exciting.
I’d love a video from you all about Plot Holes in the series.
I love the chamber of secrets favourite book and movie
Pretty much same
Why
Same
I do as well. Never understood the hate
Said no one ever
Order is at least an A. The “slower” parts are necessary (cleaning and throwing out a Horcrux).
English speaking fan here, Chamber is my favorite book

I just finished the half blood prince and here’s my ranking (first 6 books)
1: Goblet of fire (the whole Voldemort coming back is 🤌)
2: Chamber of secrets (idc if it’s random but I love myself a mystery)
3: Half blood prince (I love Ginny and Harry’s chemistry in the book and Draco being a death eater)
4: Sorcerers stone (my comfort book)
5: Order of the phoenix (just slow and excessively long)
6: Prisoner of Azkaban (idk I find it incredibly boring but I really love Lupin)
Literally mine
Goblet of fire is like the favorite of everyone just getting into the series because their nostalgia isn't a factor.
Its such a good depiction of a regime on the brink of collapse and some of the news articles that they read during the course of the book show that really well
Perfect description of the book
My favorites are
1 Prisoner Of Azkaban
2 Chamber Of Secrets (Very underrated the movie is also underrated)
3 Goblet Of Fire (Though I hate when Harry and Ron stop being friends for a little)
4 Half Blood Prince (I like this so much better then the movie big time)
5 Deathly Hallows
6 Sorcerer's Stone Philosopher's Stone (As its known in England)
7 Order Of The Phoenix (I hate that they killed Sirius Black off)
Mine is
1 half blood prince
2 prisoner of azkaban
3 philosopher's stone
4 goblet of fire
5 chamber of secrets
6 deathly hallows
7 order of the Phoenix
Would you hate OOTP less if Arthur was killed instead of Sirius?
Pretty solid list but as someone who might give a bit too much credit to the goblet of fire, i think that harry and ron's separation fills a role. For 3 years it's been harry this and harry that and not to mention Ron being in the shadow of his brothers for his whole life. I honestly find it reasonable but again it might be bias. I love the world building, the tonal shift, and the exciting and new action plots

For prisoner of Azkaban I think that dementors are the best suited for main antagonist this force of pure sadness fear and misery truly shows how this world is getting darker

It reads like an amateur writer’s fanfic.

Ffs 🤣🙈
I agree 100% with your movie and book ranking. Its worth noting that the two best movies and books don't have voldemort in them at all.
A+
1 - Goblet of Fire: The central junction point of the whole story. It really expands the world. Perfectly rounded, setting up a lot of threads that come together and pay off in the end. That graveyard-confrontation is the absolute highlight in all of HP, the peripeteia. The undisputed masterpiece in the series.
A
2 - Half-Blood Prince: Might be #1 if it was just the Dumbledore/Harry parts about Voldemort's past, the cave-scene is terrific, and it’s a good setup for the final novel, but then it fills up quite a bit of running time with the teen-romance stuff - Hinny sucks and I will die on that hill!
A-
4 - Order of the Phoenix: In the grand scheme of things, you could skip quite a bit of it, but I kind of like it as a ‘moments taken from Harry’s life’ sort of book, and find myself randomly flicking through this one more than some of the other novels.
B (5-7 keep shifting around for me)
5 - Deathly Hallows: It’s really hard to wrap things up and in my heart of hearts I never wanted this series to end.

From GOF onwards there are SO MANY sub plots man and some of them don’t deliver weLl either
I feel like everyone tries to put their nostalgia when they watched the movies/read the books. Goblet of Fire is objectively the best book and on the movie department is the best movie by far like the only 9/10 while the next one barely gets a 7.5 at max.

I like that the time travel doesnt actually change anything in prisonner
I love the prisoner of azkaban because it reminds me a lot of the knives out movies which if you’ve ever seen them they are masterpieces.

goblet/half blood could swap, very very close imo
The biggest overly convenient moment for me is in the fourth book when, unlike in the films, Dobby finds out about gillyweed for Harry. It made so much more sense in the movies where Neville, the herbology guy, tells Harry about it. How do elves know how to read anyway?
All the books are S tier for me. My favorite book is usually the one I’m reading at the moment
3:05 Wasn´t the point of this that even tough Dumbledore was gone he was still there to help Harry?
The Half Blood Prince will always be my absolute favourite. I just love the missions Harry goes on with Dumbledore, The love stories and the heart breaking death of Dumbledore. Just a shame I hate the movie from it…
I wholly agree your rankings.
Another plot convenience in Goblet of Fire I didn’t like was how Dobby just gave Harry the gillyweed minutes before the second task.
Isn't explained in barty jr's confession that he was behind that too? Maybe I'm wrong, it's been a while since I read them.

Half Blood Prince is my absolute favorite as well and all the one I'm currently on! 😜
My ranking would be:
Sorcerer's Stone: B
Chamber of Secrets: B-
Prisoner: A
Goblet: B+
Order: C+
Prince: A+
Hallows: C-
thanks for more great content Brett!
I started the series and never finished it when they were first coming out. I just read them through for the first time this year and I think I’m in the minority but I liked each one more than the previous. 2, 4, and 5 were close, but just beat out their predecessor at the end.
Dumbledore's backstory was actually my favourite part
Excellent live reading earlier… thanks!
Thank you for being there!
Yes, now I need to watch something to recover from that chapter 😂
@@heidiharder7616 This video sounds like a good thing to watch to recover from it 😏
A+: 4, 7, 3
A: 1, 2
B: 5
C: /
D: 6
Deathly Hallows was great but one problem that stands out is the actual hallows. they add absolutely nothing to the plot, think about it. without the three hallows does anything change within the main plot? the stone does nothing (other than give harry a moment with his parents), the elder wand adds nothing, and the cloak adds nothing because harry has had it for six books already.
I spend half my life trying to forget about the epilogue... and the other half trying to forget about The Cursed Child.
I heard the wizard on the back of book 1 was designed after the artist's father. Sweet.
I thought the sorcerer Stone is 300 pages long
Quick question will you be playing Hogwarts legacy when it comes out in February and if so will you be making videos on it
I have read the first chapter of the first book ( Philosopher's Stone ) but then I got rid of the complete 7 book series.
Cedric Diggory also made his first appearance in the third book.
each potterhead has different ranking, which shows how good the series is ❤
I agree with your ranking. Love it.
My ranking:
1. Goblet of fire my fav because i feel this is when harry actually seems like a wizard and has power and isnt just stumbling along
2. Sorcerer's Stone it made me fall in love with the world and was a great introduction
3. Chamber of secrets it was a great addition to the first opened up the world a bit more and drew us in futher
4 Half blood prince this one was great for all the sub plots and starting to tie together everything in the series
5.Deathly Hollows it was a good way to end the series
6 Order of the Phoenix i have always disliked this one because all of harrys logic is just thrown out the window to this day i still cant accept that he would have forgotten that sirius gave him a way to communicate with him and he just never thinks about it again
7 Prisoner of Azkaban the time travel element is terrible it feels so thrown in last minute and opens up so many plot holes it was just terribly done. Also if dumbledore performed the fidelius charm for the potters how did he not know sirius was innocent
That wizard on the back is the strange man Mr dursly sees on his way to work isn't it?
I always thought it would be Dedalus Diggle for some reason since Dumbledore calls him a strange man
You’re in for an argument, but I’m so boring.
Yeah the later books aren’t as valuable because I guess they did bigger printing runs?
So far- my rankings are:
POA
OoTP
CS
PS
GoF
HBP
Overall a great list. I like goblet of fire a little more than you but agree everywhere else.
Im 30 years old. I grow up watching movies HP. But only recently i started reading books and its a big suprise. I love books even more then movies.
So far i read
Philosophers stone
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire
My least favorite movie in the series was Goblet of fire, but book Goblet of fire is so far my favorite... It makes more sense then movie.
Now I preparing myself to read Order of the Phoenix. I didn like movie that much and it seems that book is a bit of dragggg
Halfblood prince is my favorite movie, watching your reviews it seems that book is even better so Im looking forward to it..
PS. I liked so much Barty Crouch JR . iTS sad that in movies he gets only minor part and we lost him very quickly in the series. Probably most loyal and intelligente death-eater pf all.
This is totally random but as a fellow 4 eyed.... those are some spectacular glasses. Brilliant mate.
CoS: E
PoA: the time travel is the best bit.
GoF: A* best book in the series.
Sirius not Serious
Gilderoy = Gild’roy no ‘er’ sound
Harry does not have PTSD 😂
Best movie - order of the Phoenix
Best book - Half Blood Prince
Yeah Order of the Phoenix I really enjoy to
2:46 okay, it was set up earlier in the book, more like a Chekhov’s gun
But you can still not like it
