The "brass band" sound at the end of Good Company, was _ALL_ guitars. Brian May is an elite guitar player. The thing that initially attracted me to Bohemian Rhapsody, was the piano playing. I don't think Freddie gets enough credit for his piano playing. Btw, your air piano was very good.😉
As a child sent away to boarding school, Freddie took a music class, and he and some other kids had a little band doing current songs they heard on the radio, Freddie playing piano.
Thank you. Great album. In 1973,74, 75 as teenagers we listen to these albums of Queen, Pink Floyd, Deep purple, Led Zep and the rest over and over and over again. There was no TV in South Africa till test broadcasts in 1975 and full TV in 1976 When you have time also listen to all the albums of The Strawbs. Hero and Heroine and the rest . Great Music. Great Channel, Love your work and your love for good music.
This album is the band at the height of their creativity. It is along the same lines as Led Zeppelin 4, Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, Rumours, and Hotel California. A true gem of musical brilliance.
👑Besides the great Queen songs on here and Arianne having such an otherworldly personality, she is extraordinarily beautiful just to look at and listen to. One of a kind. 😇🌺🏵🌹🌿
The Prophet's Song, I feel, was truly Brian's Magnum Opus. It's also the longest song in Queen's catalog. The riff reminds me of White Man, off of their Day at the Races album. Both albums were named after the Marx Brothers movies of the same name.
Brian creating a whole jazz band with just his guitar on Good Company….amazing. I know you didn’t like it but you should really listen to it again and really take note of all that is going on, that is not a clarinet, trumpet, and trombone at the end, it’s all Brian.
The amplifier circuit board from a Supersonic PR80 portable radio found in a dumpster was fitted into a speaker cabinet and powered by a 9-volt battery. A treble booster was used with it to give it tone.
A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera are my favorite Queen albums. And Sheer Heart Attack. And Queen II. And their debut. And News of the World. And...😁
This is my favorite side of this album. The Prophet's Song is the ultimate Queen song. Good Company is the comedic song on this side, like Seaside Rendevouz was on the first side. Just great songs and Queen at top of their game! FYI there are no keyboards on this album. It even says on the backside "No synthesizers!" proudly. Only acoustic and electric instruments on this album.
“For soon the cold of night will fall summoned by your own hand”. We’re almost there as a “civilization”. An amazing album 👍🏼 *Good Company* sounds like something *SpongeBob* and *Patrick* would play though.
If you like harmonies in rock, check out the Warning, they are three sisters that make a power trio and have some great music. They have just came back from playing a Wacken and Pol'and'Rock festivals. You wont regret it, they are 💯🔥🔥🔥&⚡⚡⚡
You amazed me with your air guitar and air piano! I'm so happy you loved the whole album. I think you should react to A day at the Race. It is the following album in Queen's discography, and it is an awesome album too.
Bad news, Verdy: you're one of us now. That Bohemian Rhapsody air guitar solo? We all had to do that to join The Club. No subscription fee or annoying texts.
I love on Prophet’s Song the way “listen to the wise man” in the round has almost like a high hat effect, you get that “ssst…t” in the middle of the phrase that sounds so cool. I think that’s all Freddy, too.
If the Profits song wasn’t enough to make you a TRU FAN, In good company might! In it, you’ll hear a Dixieland Jazz Band part. All those instruments are Brian on guitar! That Ukulele is actually a George Forby ukulele banjo that his dad carried in the war. As my first album purchases in 1975, it has been, STILL one of my all time favorites!
I can see the real emotion in your face while you were listening to The Prophet’s Song. I felt the same way when this album first came out. I couldn’t put it down.
To add to some of the points others made here: I seem to recall the liner notes called it a 'genuine aloha ukelele (made in Japan)'. Also, Freddie was credited with 'Bechstein debauchery' (Bechstein is a piano). The guitar ragtime band was awesome, and once you start trying to sort out how he made all those sounds, and so great, you'll come to love the song. Look for the guitar work in the background of the verses in other songs as well; that's not a violin, it's Brian! This album came out at a time when guitar signal processors were moving forward in leaps, and Brian made use of all of them better that anyone else!
I recommend to you to make a reaction to the debut eponymous album by Gentle Giant. Quite like Queen, they also liked vocal harmonies and they also ended (that) their album with the rendition of the British Anthem - only they did it five years earlier.
Not bring British you may not realize that’s an official anthem, “God Save the Queen.” And in America we literally stole it for “My Country Tis of Thee” lol.
As you like the Phrophet's Song, I am sure you would like their debut album. I remember buying it in '73 after seeing them on TV late at night. I like to think I did my bit to get the band going! Brian plays a harp on Love of my Life. It really is a beautiful composition, with a hint of Mozart. Good Company is such a happy song with Brian singing. A sort of seaside feel to it. Roger can really hit those high notes, like no one else. BR is such a good studio piece of work and just cannot be performed quite as good live. HM Queen Elizabeth II may well have enjoyed that last track.
As astounding as it can sound, the very hight note from the choir en "Bohemian... at 23:25 is Freddie, with a falsetto. Listen carefully and you´ll notice his vibrato, not Roger... Besides, i remember having read this fact somewhere.
@@AndresGrimace Freddie sings up G5 in opera section, and Roger up to Bb5. That is only to semitones higher. They were singing harmonies at different registers.
Queen named their albums *A Night at the Opera* and *A Day at the Races* after Marx Brothers comedy films because they said the movies "cheered up the band".
GREAT reaction!! The Prophet's Song is the example I use to show people that Queen could do Heavy Progressive music! (just like Stone Cold Crazy is their example of early thrash metal!) - and yes, their harmonies are pure perfection here - Man I love this song! Love Of My Life is the ideal respite from the beating we just took with Prophet's...such a sweet, beautiful track. I've always enjoyed Good Company. As for Bohemian - what is there to say that hasn't been said - it's the perfect rock opera song! I will forever belt this out until my dying day (I don't care how overplayed it may be - I love it). God save the QUEEN, indeed! Cheers.
Keep the train going. At some point review the next album. "A Day at the Races". You won't be disappointed. Pay close attention to the lyrics for the tune "White Man". This album and Sheer Heart Attack are in my tops with News of the World close by. You critics of News of the World need to re listen to the album. It's a gem.
I'm 70 and I'm a big fan of The Beatles and Radiohead. I'm not a big fan of Queen, but this is IMHO one of the 8 greatest Rock/Pop that I ever heard in my life. Fred Mercury is a music genius and the other Queen guys are at least great musicians.
keep good company was a b side and was apart feon roger on drums andnjohn on bass every was sone by may 4 different guitars recording each notes the dropping them into the song was main si ger plus backing singer was while not the best song on album when youbread how it was produced and then lißten again you can apppreciate the geniuse of brian
I am maybe the only one on the planet who doesn't like this album especially and that think that Prophet's song is a really bad attempt to copy art songs by Uriah Heep, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, or other proggers of the period. Good Company is a cheap remake of what May did on the previous albums. Lazy Afternoon and Rendevous are novelty-like 20s throwaways. Sweet Lady and Car are... well, no comment. So many fillers and style jumpings. They did that much better on SHA and especially NotW. Day at the Races always stood in the shadow of this album but is actually better and more coherent (even though with some filllers). Nevertheless Death, Friend, Love, and Rhapsody ARE some of the bands finest moments. But even though the production is much better here it can't reach the heavyness and proginess of II and SHA. Anyway it is still better than Jazz or everything after The Game (Works and Innuendo had some very good tunes as well again but also some fillers, especially the latter one).
Uriah Heep and Supertramp are not progressive bands😂 LOL. Queen in the 70s were one of a kind and they didn't copy anyone. One of the most original bands in the history. There was no other band like this. These are the facts.
All of the different styles and genres are not for anyone. I tend to love the 1920's vaudeville numbers. I don't think they are novelty songs, Freddie was just the type of artist who could not stick to one or two styles. Uriah Heep and Supertramp were good bands, but Queen is something else.
can't stand their old albums like this, way way WAY too many tracks/layers and over-production...yeah it obvi 'works' with their huge hits, but NOT the other tracks, not even close, just polished turds. the only difference between this stuff and bands like Muse is they actually had a real singer to help make things seem more authentic.
What a nonsense! I guess you don't know nothing about music. Production is the part of it. Always been. Comparing them to poor epigones like Muse requires no comment.
@@kennyp9616 No. All the albums from the 70s plus Innuendo are must to know. This was an album band, not singles. GH1 is completely not representative for their 70s period.
Queen were masters of productions. I think they made it work perfectly, and the prove is that they were also masterful as a live band. Queen made it work because they were genuine and passionate about what they did, they didn't just make music to create complexity, there were always an emotional basis for their music. They added their genuine personality to the music. Some artists with a lot of production don't always relay genuine quality. Some people don't like it, but it is another area of rock that needed to be explored. It has stood the test of time better than a lot of punk rock, which was obviously the opposite.

This album is the band at the height of their creativity. It is along the same lines as Led Zeppelin 4, Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, Rumours, and Hotel California. A true gem of musical brilliance.
Personally I love also other later albums like News of the World.

Amazing that Queens best two albums have side 2 as the BEST part. (Referring to Queen 2, side 2.
The Prophet's Song, I feel, was truly Brian's Magnum Opus. It's also the longest song in Queen's catalog. The riff reminds me of White Man, off of their Day at the Races album. Both albums were named after the Marx Brothers movies of the same name.
These songs are beautiful, perfectly executed, excellent production. It was truly amazing what they could accomplish in the studio.
Love of My Life is like a medieval madrigal. So seamlessly rock and classical at the same time. Masterful arrangement.
Brian creating a whole jazz band with just his guitar on Good Company….amazing. I know you didn’t like it but you should really listen to it again and really take note of all that is going on, that is not a clarinet, trumpet, and trombone at the end, it’s all Brian.
Yea, a lot of people don't realize the flutes, the trombone etc., all Brian, all guitar
And a lot of those parts were played through the "Deacy" Amp. Designed & built by John Deacon.
