Reminds me of my mate's '67 Super cooper S when we served togather in West Germany in the mid '70's. His was a 1275 that had the dual 45mm dual throat Webber carbs like the one in the video. He had 4' wide wheel arches and 8" wide wheels with tyres that looked like refugees from Willow Springs Race track. We embarassed more than one 911 Porshe and a couple of Corvette's on the narrow ox cart lanes that passed for 2 lane roads!
I miss my mini !
Nice job guys, just don't risk your hard work and money for the sake of a cheap ITG foam air filter.Set up's like these are at more risk of ingesting grit and shit, minus an air filter piston and bore wear is alarmingly increased.Keep up the top notch work!
The best cold air induction ever! Great car guys!
nice cross-flow cylinder head!
I think Arden were 7 port head suppliers when I was young but that was like voodoo magic then, like fuel injection...lol
That’s a beast
Nice piece of kit !
Sounds amazing, I want one!
@aromaster ,the trottle bodies are behind these venturi's or ram pipe's.they provide the proper airflow,if they have the right size.maybe you disturbed the airflow, driving without the airfilter.
AWESOME BRO ! MY FAVOURITE MINI EVER !!!!
I hope this is a good omen - I`m just fitting a 7 port head and twin 40 dcoe Webers to my 1275 Mini, and mine is exactly the same colour as this one with the same wheels! Nice one.
Is this the only video of this build??👀
Nice setup!
thats the 7 port cylinder head ,check out the 7 ports 8 ports etc,but yeah normaly the carbs are bulkhead with exhaust manifold
Great! Only problem is that if you have a shunt, the damage will be £££££.
get this for gutted - my bro' had an original 1960 mini (gear lever went to to bulkhead and had a start button) dropped a 1380 in it had the same head I think (carbs not by the bulkhead) bunch of grapes down pipes straight through exhaust split gear box smaller (higher ratio) final drive, got 6 weeks for an unpaid fine and some bastard stole it. GUTTED!
This car is now running a 5 port A series with around 140bhp, racing in the CSCC Swinging Sixties class. 7 port head wasnt allowed in the regulations so it had to go. Look for no.116 on track.
that oil filler cap looks handy
@dan5six
It's one thats been drilled to aid cooling for the clutch.
mint............nice work............
Excellent work..just what im after when sorted mine ;-)
love the oil filler cap :)
how could u dislike this??
this is bloody lovely mate ;-)
@aromaster some 15/20 years ago I drove an opel manta B with an 2.0 16V engine and 48 MM webers with K&N filter and a 63 MM exhaust (group A) and a 4-2 in 1 exhaust manifold.
with a limited slipdif and a getrag 5-speed, it was capable to drive 245+ km/h @7000 rpm.
7 port? Why not make it 8 If you gonna move.carbs to front???
Ahhh sweeeet !
Nice spot for a glove .... hummm .
Dont forget the two stroke oil (1%) in your fuel as anti corrosion additive when using modern ethanolized e5 and e10 fuels in older cars. ( You might ruin your webers with the modern ultra dry fuels! -- so use 1% two stroke oil as additive!)
In Germany the Mini and MG Club does so!
sounds lovely and cammy, bet it loves to rev
What type of bell housing is that never seen one like that before
Sweet idd love to get one like that if insurance was low for that engin hehe
@aromaster and @777hawkie ,in the netherlands we also use the word ''venturi'',which also can be used in french and english,I think..........
10x6 Ultralights with Yoko A032R tyres
mint!
@Burnard1234 LOL - it's "Thing" from the Addams family helping out.
What's with all the holes in the clutch cover?
nahh they're it's just oldskool velocity stacks for side-draft webbers.
How can u put your webers on the front of the engine?
Lovely little car. Is that a latex glove for an oil cap? Ha ha 8D
how makes cross flow heads for mini's
Now what's the deal with the stock head setup? Was the original not crossflow? I remember seeing carbs on the bulkhead side in stock form. They make brand new head castings for these?
very nice guys!! Still running well??
Fucking lovely, got any dyno figure for it? I'm guessing it must be making around 150 with those carbs on.
Watch that Glove .....
Isn't that a bit large for a 1380?
or do u have a race cam etc?
and how many brake horse power(BHP) does this produce ?
Very nice. But I always have my reservations about carbs up front, even a minor shunt could be v e r y expensive, your mini would cry petrol & risk a serious fire. Keep up the good work.
Sweeet. it sounds lumpy but i'm thinking it's coz of the cam ie lots of overlap :D
guys whats the top end do u think it gets?
Going to need flares or narrower tyres.
Wow
Think I've died and gone to heaven :p
Nice guys
For my first car I would like to get a mini but not sure where to buy them. Would just like to ask you guys where can I get one from?? I live in south Australia
Very nice work.
Is that the Arden 8 port head? Would have thought twin 40's would have been enough though.
very nice, how many ponies is she putting out?
how much is it for twin webs ?
Who else would drive the shit out of this?
yeahhh damm nice...better then putting vtech or hayabusa engine....
Any for sale?
have you thought of putting 13x7 because me and my dad a putting them on our mini?
how are the carbs on the opposite side of the engine?
its a 7 port cross flow head
How much did it cost? How hard was it? How long did it take?. and how much you going to sale it
how long is a pice of string
There's an outfit just up the street from where I live...just google Mini Mania...they sell drop in ready 1380cc engines!! Or, just order the parts from them, and build it. I am building a 1380cc engine for my Bugeyed Sprite...BUT, with just 1 Weber 45DCOE....so not as potent.
That's twin Weber carbs.
7 port head instead of the standard 5 port head.
How fast does mini go with the dual webbers ?
fucking fast enough!
Why leave the webers open, when you just build this awesome engine? I wouldn't take any risk of stuff going in at all ! cool machine btw
clearly not finished!
hi .. i have a question .. how much did this engine cost you ?
The head alone is about £1500. A good 1380 block would probably be about £200. Carbs would be another £700. Then you've got pistons, rods, crankshaft, aftermarket cam. Probably about a £4000 engine, that's if you built it yourself.
Scrubworks thank you
.. .. Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe
Somewhere in the region of 140bhp.
Any more vids or ig build stories?
110 HP a la rueda ,no mas que eso. (dyno )
Can an A series engine get any sexier, don't be daft!
Well there are the twin cam conversions that use a BMW motorbike cylinder head and make slightly more power, but those are a much more expensive conversion.
whats a 7 port , thought it was 8 ????
Standard Mini is 5 port - 2 shared inlet, 3 exhaust. 7 port is individual (4) inlet and 3 exhaust. 8 port is 4 inlet and 4 exhaust :)
Miniracer118 oh i get the ports ie valves .. just never heard of 7 port ... seen 8 ports before they normally had a square lump on the front of the bonnet to fit the 40's webbers on ;)
+ste lamo i believe its the 2nd and 3rd pistons on a mini share an exhaust port hence only needing 3 it was the original design
Denisa Hudak
its just i can remember back in the 80's gong to car races and minis , had 8 port heads not 7 ?
Both 7 port and 8 port heads exist
I would waste my time with Weber's so many parts to go wrong with SU's Carbs it's a lot simpler .
Ahh, the horrible 'A' series engine and the clutch release lever that used to seize and the gearshift seal that used to leak and the fumes that used to come into the cabin from the manifold flange that used to leak because the engine mounting buses were shot and the spluttering missfire from the wet distributor when it rained...
Two words for you:Bad design
