This one hurts.. I wear the bracelets of the two men that pulled me out of my burning Humvee after an IED attack. They were killed in subsequent small arms fire. My left leg was broken, my right shoulder was torn out of place, and I was trying not to black out. I woke up three days later on a medivac to Ramstein Air Force Base. It was there when I was told of their deaths. To this day, I struggle with the fact that I am still here and they are not. I remember eating barbecue with them and having beers at our deployment party. War is hell and some of us are stuck in that hell even after the war is over.

I feel ya brother. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2015 and had served in Fallujah Iraq in 2004 during Operation Phantom fury/Al-Fajr and then in Ramadi Iraq in 2006 during the battle for Ramadi. I then went on to serve in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2008 Operating out of Camp Leatherneck, then again in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2010 during Operation Moshtarak and finally 2013 again in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan with 3/5 Marines. I had been wounded in 2006 in Ramadi Iraq i hadn't been badly wounded i had been shot thru my left wrist. It was in 2013 with Darkhorse 3/5 that i was badly wounded when a ANA soldier tripped an IED and a 3 hour firefight ensued. I was knocked unconscious and peppered with shrapnel from the IED blast. It was sometime after the blast i was shot in my lower right leg just above my ankle that disintegrated about 4 inches of my tibia. Another Marine actually one of my bestfriends ran to me and started to drag me back. He ended up being hit and i was shot again this time under my left arm where my body armor didn't cover. The round went thru my left lung and exited out my back, i don't remember anything after that i was told i had passed out. When i came to i was in Ramstein Germany getting ready to be sent to Walter Reed. I was at Walter Reed when i was told that my bestfriend who was dragging me to safety had actually been killed, i was told that he died in the helicopter while we were being medavaced. That really fucked me up i felt and still to this day feel that i was responsible for his death. I know that's not true but it's hard not to feel responsible.

I fought in Afghanistan and Iraq , I was shot in the stomach in Afghanistan, side note it didn’t penetrate my vest but caused internal bleeding, then was blown up by an RPG in Iraq, I lost men in both theaters and lost men to Suicide, my men survived hell in war but could not survive home! I find myself at time struggling with this as well, the pain get to be hell. I am a warrior that’s what I always wanted and followed my dream. I went all the way becoming a us ranger and airborne and air assault qualified. Made sergeant in a year and a half!. I would do it again because I love my country and the men I fought with! War is hell and that’s not just a saying! To kill and be killed is as true as it gets! I respect anyone who served whether in peace and war. I would still be in if not for that RPG! It disabled me. Facts about the band and one if its members:
Zoltan Bathory is a founding board member of the veterans nonprofit Home Deployment Project in Las Vegas (Home Deployment Project works to save and reintegrate homeless veterans) and sits on the Board of Advisors at VETPAW (Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife) an anti-Poaching organization operating on the African continent, composed of US combat veterans.
Five Finger Death Punch have played many military benefit concerts, visited bases around the world and spearheaded a fundraising campaign for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.[1]
In 2014, the band launched a campaign that raised over $225,000. The band used their recent music video for their latest single "Wrong Side of Heaven" to focus on the theme and launched website 5fdp4Vets.com. They also started selling a custom jersey which was designed by Bathory, on Indiegogo. The funds raised went to organizations that raise awareness about PTSD.

There is no faster way to drop your heart into your stomach, than to open the door to a Grievance Officer. My twin was killed in Afghanistan. 82nd Airborne, couldn’t have been more proud of that man... but my older brother (Marine) had just come home, and I had to physically hold him down (only a baby sister can hold back a Marine, I guess) so they could make their statement.
I lost two brothers that day. “It should have been ME!” will be seared into my brain for the rest of my life.
Thank you for this. Keep spreading awareness. 22 a day is 22 too many.

As soon as I was healed enough to make a fist, I joined the Army. I was in Afghanistan a year into my service and was put on Movement Team. We were out every day, sometimes 3 missions a day. The Humvee tracking along in this vid reminds me of slow riding MRAPs through the ranges in Kabul. We lost 13 in a Rhino bus caught by a VBID. Some memories are held onto, some are etched in.

Even though this is a cover from The Offspring, it sounds completely different

The fact that the offsrping made this song 20 years prior, and it can be covered and reacted to like this makes the lyrics hit so much closer home. Its an ongoing thing that people through so many walks of life have to go through.
