The Ford Mustang has been on sale in India since 2016. This everyday Supercar has earned a reputation of being a multi-tasker and does not limit its owner to early morning or late night drives on open roads. This 400 Bhp coupe has surprised us all with its easy going nature and the relatively affordable price tag has translated into sales of 450 units in India. Two cities, Mumbai and Delhi have contributed the most to this number.
We left the heart of Mumbai at 5:30am and were in the heart of Delhi before mid-night. Yes, this video is about a 1400km long road trip in the Ford Mustang that we did a few days back. We decided to connect both these cities via an epic road trip that would also put to test the Grand Tourer (GT) capabilities of this iconic Supercar. Was the 400 bhp Ford Mustang comfortable and fast enough?
This drive was to be a celebration for the love Mumbai and Delhi owners (and fans!) have shown for the Pony and to make it even more interesting, we set ourselves a target. My aim was to wake up in Mumbai and hit the bed in Delhi - in other words, morning tea in Maharashtra, breakfast in Gujarat, lunch in Rajasthan and dinner in Delhi. Would this be possible? Click the video which we managed to shoot during the drive.
Our test car already had over 22,000km on the odo which is the most I have ever seen for a media car of this segment. To make the drive even more authentic, we decided to start our marathon from Sea Link in Mumbai and end it at Connaught Place in New Delhi. Before the drive, a major concern I had was the usable drive range the Mustang offered. There were multiple rumours which hinted at an economy of no more than 6 kmpl but within the first hour, I was pleasantly surprised to see an indicated figure of 9 kmpl - this would remain more or less throughout the drive, as I found out later.
Secondly, inspite of being a Supercar, the Mustang did not touch down even once throughout the drive. Yes, I had to drive over bumps and speed-breakers diagonally and this did the trick for us. Next, the Mustang can live on a diet of normal fuel and does not need high octane or premium additives. Likewise, the comfort mode is good for runs where you need your backside in one piece.
As seen in the screenshot above, throughout the trip, we managed to keep the average speeds of about 80 km/h. This included over a dozen toll stops, three fuel breaks and two minor ones for snacks on the move. I have been doing runs between these two cities for a decade now and have seen improvements coming in but certain sections remain as slow (and irritating) as ever. For example, even leaving Mumbai before sunrise did not ensure traffic-free roads. Commercial traffic was continuous and it was only when we left the financial capital behind by about 100km did roads finally open up. This stretch, that leads to the Gujarat border is scenic, empty and inviting for a car like this. We had our windows down and oh boy, this was the first time I was flirting with the 5000cc engine on public roads.
From Mumbai, we took the NH48 to Vadodara and then followed the state highway to Shamlaji (NH48 again). This helps bypass Ahmedabad completely and the route too is largely devoid of traffic. Further, state highways in Gujarat are toll-free for cars and this helped us save precious minutes. We did come across small towns and revving the motor (with the ‘box in N) did send across a dozen smiles all around.
The last 100-150km to Udaipur has improved a lot and the on-going four-lane work is almost finished. Views of the hills are stunning and fresh, grippy tarmac meant at such places, I was able to make up for the loss of time at toll booths. Straightening up curves, braking late into tighter ones and literally flying over little undulations, we made it to the outskirts of Udaipur as per schedule. However, getting to the other side of the city of lakes took time and patience and a bit of off-roading.

Good going guys! I do Pune - Bangalore regularly in my BMW 320D. It gives me a sense of meditation, always! From my home in Pune to my Home in Bangalore it is exactly 910 KM. And I love the drive. I must say, my Skoda Octavia gave me an overall better feeling than the 3 series. But on the other hand, 3 series gives me more thrill!
Cheers, good to see more and more people driving long distances.

@10:51 You freaking look exhausted, that you are craving for bed to collapse very next moment. Notice the dark circles, near your eyes. These are warning signs - DO NOT TRY this again ever, even if it be to promote a super car. Not even truck drivers pull this kind of stunt. PS: 1500 Kms in 18 hours is NOT a big deal, even an 800 CC car can do that. Point is, we can drive american cars here, but we don't have american expressways here, so there isn't a value addition one can expect, except for a status quo.
Not a troll, just a friendly advice.
Wait for Delhi mumbai expressway
Chal Gyan mat baat
True. Also, the mustang although being a good car, is definitely not worth 60+ lacs.

I'm a big fan of Ford Cars and Mustang is a dream car.
Watching your video i remembered my trip of 2016. Had done 1200 km from Chennai to Pune in 15 hours including breaks in my Ford Aspire Diesel. Starting at 5am from home in Chennai Reaching Pune Home @ 8pm.
Sir, Please keep making such videos.
I didn't have a Dash cam earlier so could not make a video like this. Now I have it. Will definitely make one when I go on a long drive after lock down.
I recently did 911 Kms from Buxar in Bihar to Noida in UP in 11.5 hours in my Ford Aspire Petrol. Frankly, it helped to have 4 expressways in UP... Purvanchal, Agra-Lucknow, Taj, and Noida-Greater Noida. Took 3-4 short breaks and 1 long break of around 45 minutes. Fuel Efficiency - around 16-17.
Hats off to the flying cameraman who kept pace with the Mustang.
nah he just slowed it down for those small sec clips
I once did Kolkata to Puri 500km night drive, in 8 hrs in my Celerio. Just sharing one fact, u can pull out in any car, any where u want. The feeling of stress, the comfort level, the difficulty of maintaining that 90-110 ka speed matters a lot ! But what matters the most is the driver's passion, his enthusiasm of venturing out on new roads ❤️
You should do this once again when the Delhi Mumbai expressway is completed
It’s Gurgaon Mumbai

Ahmedabad - Mumbai was my daily routine. Ones I did Ahmedabad to Mumbai almost 519 km in 5:05 hours in Diesel Verna. Fuel efficiency of 14

Lovely video. I was able to cover the same route within 16 hrs by old verna diesel. I've been doing it frequently from delhi to mumbai. 🙂

That was a great endeavour. I can never dream to drive in India but 1500km in a single day and in a Pony Car.. loved them always, will love them even more and will get one soon and add it to my stable. Great job!
This video comes very close to my heart. As young teenager who was on a road trip to Rajasthan. I imagined myself doing this exact road trip but in a yellow Camaro ZL1 since I was very influenced by the movie transformers. Bunny driving a yellow mustang tells me how fun it is going to be when I do it. Thanks 🥰

Yeah it's possible, I did it in Feb 2022, from Bangalore race course road to kolhapur in Swift petrol...
Hey Bunny, you made me quite nostalgic 😍 I may not have a vlog as yours, but i did same solo drive Pune to Ghaziabad in 28 hours. Although i wasn't chasing the clock but equally interested in checking out the places. Since i was doing such thing for the very first time. Started from pune at 5AM and apart from refueling, my first halt was at Kishangarh. Had to take a quick nap, since night before i didn sleep coz of nervousness and parting.
Infact i have done pune - ghaziabad thrice. And one i did Pune, Goa, Bangalore, Pondicherry, then back to pune and then pune delhi.

As a former owner, I proudly say that Mustang is a true American muscle. I was part of the 6 speed automatic transmission team this pony possess and it's a beast without saying. I still cherish memories from my roadtrip from Detroit to Boston, which is pretty much like mumbai-delhi in distance. Mustang is a true legendary car with its legacy dating back since 1964!! Go Ford!!
Do you get mails from Alfred Brush Ford (heir to Ford fortune), cousin of William Clay Ford, Jr.? I do. But I never owned a Mustang or any Ford car (only one Maruti).

I had a custom 2011 GT 6-speed Premium w/3.73 gear ratio. Exterior Grey with full red interior. Ford made only one of these and took 8 months to deliver it. I drove it the entire East coast and then to California.
Great car but somewhat gets to you after a while and drivers age doesn’t help at all 😉.
The vehicle was sold to a local Mustang Enthusiast who paid much more than market value as it was kept in showroom condition for 3 yrs.
Enjoy your Mustang but I still don’t feel it is made for Indian roads and traffic.
Thanks for dropping in. You seem to be a big enthusiast!
Also this ain't our car. It's a media vehicle :)
91Wheels : ok hope you did some burn outs... is it automatic or manual? How’s the Ford support in India?
Yup.. not made for Indian roads.. I had a 2014 v6 before.. now i have a 2018 gt.. love the car.. Next time try the newer model and get it to some open space for some pulls.. people really want to see that.. 👌🏻👌🏻
Jd Swag : handling is totally different between 2014 and 2018, hard axle vs independent suspension. I drove the 2019 GT and found to be too mooshy for my taste, doesn’t feel like Mustang anymore, but will definitely prefer the 10-speed auto for long cruises
