Good info. I also think we're seeing the results of Covid. It's odd but the year of not competing permitted a lot of young runners to develop without the pressure of earning money in races that were canceled. Some runners were able to take an extra year to develop before debuting.
What has me most worried is there's more and more runners that can run low- and sub-2:04 ... many. But none in development in the US who are likely to get there. We're still trying to get the next sub-2:08 guy after Rupp and the bar has been raised. I don't think a 2:08 is going to win a marathon major any time again soon unless the weather or terrain is so bad that the 2:04 guys run 2:08 and the 2:08 guys are running 2:12.

My parents live about 550 miles away and when driving up there we take a break sometimes to split up the distance, to average 26.5 mph (42.76 kph) on a bicycle is insane to think about. On a 3+ hour ride I was able to average just a little under 30 mph and was dead tired after that, plus I had the wind to my back for a large part of the day.

This video points out that each race professional, college and high school sprint athletes endure have to expect a head wind each time. My own experience is I got a head wind each time. LOL Head wind is what discouraged me. So I settled running distance instead where I could sort of float around the track. Cal State Northridge is a notorious head wind track.😜LOL
@@jeffitachi2589 she definitely can. No woman in history can say they’ve gone under 63 minutes for the HM besides her. It’s a tall task, but Gidey is the most poised out of any woman in the world right now, to shatter the Marathon world record.
@@jeffitachi2589 seems like you may be experiencing some bias towards Kenyan athletes getting the world record, so let’s do some numbers. Off the top of my head, this year we had an incredible performance from Kosgei in Tokyo with a time of 2:16:02. In addition to this, we had Ruth Chepngetich, former HM world record holder run just short of the Marathon WR in Chicago, running 2:14:18. Of course there’s other notable performances by Jepchirchir, with her win in Boston. Looking towards Ethiopia, we have former legend on the track Almaz Ayana, who ran a debut of 2:17:19 in Amsterdam, Tigist Assefa who ran a quick 2:15:34, and then of course, Yalemzerf Yehualaw running a 2:17:23 and a 2:17:25 to take Hamburg and London respectively. Gidey currently owns a HM pb of 1:02:52, Yalemzerf trails a minute behind her at 1:03:51. Gidey owns 4 world records, and her HM time would convert roughly to a 2:12. Of any marathoner even close to the marathon WR, Chepngetich collected herself a 1:04:02 in Istanbul, 70 seconds behind Gidey. Gidey’s WR tend to improve as the distance grows. Her 5k arguably being the weakest distance she runs, 10k being slightly better, 15k being way better, and of course HM being unbeatable. If Gidey has a good day and her training has been well, she will break the world record. If not, it could totally go to one of the Kenyans, who I really only think Chepngetich and Kosgei could scratch at the moment.
Imo it should not be counted as a "marathon split" as he didn't run a full marathon. I also think he's an example for bad running strategy, so should not be mentioned within the record holders.
Of course if shouldn't count... otherwise some random high school athlete could do mile 1 in 4:15, then drop out, but he's got the WR :-) Pushing the limits here to make a point.
I applaud these great and amazing achievements. But the greatest Marathon race ever was Emil Zatopek in the 1952 Helsinki Finland Olympics. Emil had won the 5,000m and 10,000m golds in Olympic record times. Then, he decided to run the Marathon! (Before he left for the Olympics he had a gland infection and his Doctor told him he shouldn’t even go.) He had never run more than 15 miles before the Marathon. He was competing against the Marathon world record holder, Jim Peters of England, who everyone assumed would win. The weather was very hot that day. Emil knew that to win he had to stay with Peters. Peters dropped out half way through the race and collapsed. Knowing nothing about the Marathon race, Emil had asked Jim if the pace was fast enough. Jim said no, and Emil sped up; never seeing him again. Emil also ran the Marathon in Olympic record time. The Africans have tried to duplicate Zatopek’s Helsinki Triple, but they can’t. Even if they could win all three, they couldn’t possibly win them all in Olympic record times. Runners World magazine declared Emil Zatopek the GROAT, Greatest Runner Of All Time.
The greatest to follow. He followed 3 car, a group of guys creating a draft, and 3 lazers. Dude is using the most assistance possible just to set these time. People cant wear lifting gear and take peds and get raw world records. These should be assisted world records... cause they are..

I gotta be 100% honest. I don't think Kipchoge will be the world record holder for much longer. Kiptum ran a *2:01:25* in London in the RAIN, on his 2nd marathon!!!! And he's only 23 years old!!!! Anytime kiptum enters a race the world record is in jeopardy.
I don’t have a lot of running experience, however I do in cycling. Would these results have anything to do with the fact they barely raced in 2020? At the highest level of cycling you often see a cyclist who is good have an accident that puts them out for the season. This giving their body a chance to rest and recover and then when they start back their training they focus on a lot of strength work to rehabilitate the injury and by the next season they come back way better than what they ever were before… Could this also be a factor with Covid canceling most of the racing in 2020?
I tired to run this speed...for 10 minutes...I tried to run this speed but couldn't. Unbelievable. I'm 64 but that's no excuse. 40 years ago I couldn't have done it either.
You can run in groups all you want. Just note everybody in that training group was wearing the same Nike carbon-plated shoes. That is what is different nowadays. That same training group didn't have access to as good shoes as now.

OK fine I guess I know why, they're controversial topics but it's 2022, people shouldn't be so naïve.
I loved watching the Tokyo marahton lol
Abdi Nageeye being the first Dutchman to win the Rotterdam marathon in April was definitely my favorite moment.
If the Majors ban those shoes, times won't be so surprinsing next season. Regular shoes only and the party is over
I don't understand how that Brazilian guys splits a 4:17 at mile 17 and then collapses 3-4 miles later. He had to have known he wasn't feeling so hot at mile 17. Why did he run so reckless?
He was not familiarized with the imperial measurement. And his watch was all over the placw with gps error.
It's absurd that his pace is faster than almost any highschooler can run a 5k
All eyes on Letesenbet Gidey for Velencia now! Can she challenge the WR?
Nope not a chance
@@jeffitachi2589 she definitely can. No woman in history can say they’ve gone under 63 minutes for the HM besides her. It’s a tall task, but Gidey is the most poised out of any woman in the world right now, to shatter the Marathon world record.
@@johannsebastianbach1649 Record will be Kenya's not Ethiopia's.You are free to now abuse me😂😂
@@jeffitachi2589 seems like you may be experiencing some bias towards Kenyan athletes getting the world record, so let’s do some numbers.
2:01:09 my favorite time in the marathons this year.
4:10 Does Daniel do Nascimento 4’17” mile 17 count as a record split considering DNF?
I mean...he did it so it does count. Would loved to have seen him finish tho
Imo it should not be counted as a "marathon split" as he didn't run a full marathon. I also think he's an example for bad running strategy, so should not be mentioned within the record holders.
Of course if shouldn't count... otherwise some random high school athlete could do mile 1 in 4:15, then drop out, but he's got the WR :-)
Pushing the limits here to make a point.
Won’t be surprised if Jakob Ingrebesten from Norway ends up breaking the marathon record sometime in the future.
Correction: Assefa's 2:15 was not her debut, she ran a 2:34 marathon this same year.
The Vaporfly works in mysterious ways
Marathon running will never be the same when the hot sauce recipes drop.
If no one breaks the 2 hr mark...ill have to do it. I will start training tommorow😈
İ think i could run 200 metres at this marathon WR pace.
I've tried it. Cant even run 200 meters lol
That brazil guy planned to do 30km in both nyc and tokyo olympics and he did it. congrats
It’s the shoes
🔥🔥🔥🔥
RUTH CHEPNGETICHS 2.14 RACE
Should those marathon split records count/stand if you dnf'd
"Rafiki" Why not? They were accomplished.
No, they should not. The reason why other fast runners have not posted such a fast split is because they intend to finish.
Nice content.🤗
TRP please I need your theme musics... it'll be great for training! Do you have like a catalogue of that?
Do Nascimento has no place in a vid like this one. He run 2 ridiculous miles and then collapsed. Anyone that has even the slightest idea about running show that coming the second he made these times.
It meant nothing about future marathon times. It was just a demonstration of stupidity..
lol? He made it to mile 21 before collapsing
@@tubby1782 In a fucking MARATHON. Mile 21 in a MARATHON as a professional athlete, having completely misjudged his pace in favor of a pointlessly fast mile time. For what? In order to impress clueless people like you?
Well he succeeded in that for sure lol
@@iluvatarchem ? His body (although unlikely) could have not given up on him at that point and then he would have won and it would be a different story.
@@tubby1782 Yes of course. He would have won with a pace of 1:58. A time that even Kipchoge doesnt even try to achieve.
Suuuuure bro. Keep on dreaming
Training group supremacy
Do Nascimento trains in Kenya too.
What's wrong with Kenyans.. They won all men's marathon majors.. Complete dominance.. 😎😎
It's the shoes. The carbon-plate foam-encased shoes from Nike and Adidas are helping the athletes run quick times.
What's the point of spelling 4:17/mile in marathon history?? as he didn't even finish the race, if you collapse after 20miles you basically didn't run that marathon.
While Do Nascimento was impressive, I don't think his splits count because he DNF(did not finish).
This giving their body a chance to rest and recover and then when they start back their training they focus on a lot of strength work to rehabilitate the injury and by the next season they come back way better than what they ever were before…
Could this also be a factor with Covid canceling most of the racing in 2020?
Almaz Ayana winning Amsterdam. I run that same marathon and she is 1 hour and 7 minutes faster then me 👏👏👏
I tired to run this speed...for 10 minutes...I tried to run this speed but couldn't. Unbelievable. I'm 64 but that's no excuse. 40 years ago I couldn't have done it either.
"Barry Samson" The sneakers.
You can run in groups all you want. Just note everybody in that training group was wearing the same Nike carbon-plated shoes. That is what is different nowadays. That same training group didn't have access to as good shoes as now.
The people in Chebets training group have been wearing either the Adios pro 2s or 3s in their past marathons.
2:43 What is that tricycle like thing?
WoW 😯
How the hell was there an incorrect turn?!
group doping in Kenya??? anyone?
At a buffet, I personally sneak corn into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 boiled corn ears in my jacket pockets. It is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corn thinking they were part of the buffet.
That sounds like a normal thing to do.
