- In this episode we attempt to start up the Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engine in this Allis Chalmers Bulldozer that I have owned for years. It hasn’t been started since in my possession or the previous owner either so come along and see what happens. I am joined by Geoffrey from @oldamericaniron5767 as we both apply our knowledge of old equipment to this relic.
Even though I was there it’s still fun to watch. Watching it made me realize how forward thinking the engineers were 75 years ago. They knew to put a foot starter on it so I would have a free hand to hold my snack while trying to start it 75 years later!
I still can’t believe you were here mate when I watch your videos or one of mine with you in it. A snack was certainly needed to get it going.
Steve, Jim Rioux from Connecticut, on will it start what difference does it make whether it starts or not. I appreciate learning, by watching. It's a big effort to make these videos and I appreciate that effort. Again I love to watch and learn. I thought about your dog often and truly sorry for your loss. Be good my friend, from one of your original subscribers. Jim
Hi Jim. I haven’t done one yet that didn’t start from memory? But as you say, whether it goes or not it makes for good content. It’s a big effort indeed. I’m kind of struggling to get views at the moment. It seems the more effort we put into it, the less the videos perform. I’m only averaging 2500 views and have over 11,000 subs. It’s a strange thing the internet world mate. I’m still enjoying it a lot though and keeping up the content to you original faithful subscribers is very important to us. It’s hard still after losing the dog because he was always there when I was here at home mate. Thanks as always Jim. Much appreciated mate
Damn those frogs gave me anxiety.
We still have my grandparents HD 7 dozer. They bought it for pushing snow back in the day and 3rd gear was out when he purchased it. He parked it in the quancet in 1995 when we bought our front wheel assist tractor to replace it. We put a can over the exhaust and fire it up every 10 years.
Hi mate thanks for sharing this. It’s good to see a few still around. I’m sure the farm tractor would be more versatile
sounds fairly solid Steve Mate . great job you blokes . keep refreshed. hope Geoff loves a good night Barby
It sounds really good I think mate yes. We had a few Barby nights and plenty of refreshments. He seemed to enjoy it all
Nice runner, compression maybe a bit on the low side.

Beautiful content brother Steve. Keep up the good work bro. Love everything that you do, especially with the Australian knowledge that comes with the heavy machinery😊🤠😎
Thank you Robin. I don’t know everything mate but share what I do know. Plenty more to come
Runs very nicely gents !
It's incredible what these old 2 smokes can sit through and run again with just about no problems !
Thanks Ard. We were happy with how it all went. Still a long way to go to use it but small steps mate
I'll have a brew with you on this one, thanks for sharing, stay safe folks.
Hi mate no problem thank you
Absolutely love the "will it start's", especially on the ol' 2 strokes!! Well done to both of you! 😃
Thanks Pete. I’d been wanting to start this one for a while now. I thought it may take a bit more but having 2 blokes made it a lot easier.

It possibly is mate yes. Thank you 🙏
What’s that strange noise in the background?
Not sure. Is it the birds?
is there any more on the D7 did you ever manage to get her driving
Not yet mate. I haven’t been back near it. I will have to make some track pins up and get those joined first. But in time I will
She's a runner! Nice job guys. Liked the hose clamp redecorator at 9:50 on! The track joiner chains look just fine.....yeras of work left in em. 8^) Cheers Steve and Geoffrey!
Hi Jeff. Yes I wasn’t stuffing around trying to screw those out. It needs track’s really. I could make some pins but they still aren’t great. Undercarriage needs a lot of attention mate
Hi Steve ,
My dad's HD7 has worn out 3 sets of tracks and still goes, the hour metre stopped working in the 60s at 34000 hrs .
Thanks for the video mate ,keep up the good work
Hi mate. I’m sure she keeps going just fine. It would have a lot of hours on it now. I need a set of tracks for this one. I could make them work but others would be better. Thanks again
AC HD7 G har jag kört många timmar å CAT D4
Hi mate that’s great. Great old machines
Love your videos Steve keep it up.
Hi mate that’s wonderful. I certainly will be keeping it up. Especially getting comments like these. Plenty more to come so stay tuned

Hi mate thank you. I don’t know if I’ve heard of a Valmet tractor? Sounds interesting
What is that bird I can hear
Those are Bellbirds the main ones you can hear, but lots of varieties are here with them.

Greetings to you all the way over there mate. Fantastic stuff. Thanks as always and I’m trying not to spill it. It does happen though when I get excited

I hope all went well at the hospital and nothing serious brother
some N series injectors would be an upgrade too
I mean this all in fun mate ! Geoffrey has a strange accent ! 😀
Yes mate. That’s how they sound in Wisconsin from others I’ve heard. I like it
@@stevesplacedownunder Yea . I knew he was from the upper mid-west. I just meant he sounded different from anybody else i've heard on your channel . 😊
Yeah he certainly does. It’s not an accent that anyone around my area is used to by any means. Was a great week
Usually if you rotate the engine to a different position where the teeth on the ring gear are not so damaged it will engage correctly unless the hold in solenoid is stuffed or dirty contacts.
Engines typically wear the ring gear in three places depending on the engine. 👍🇦🇺
Hi Scott yes that’s what we had to do several times after working out what it was
Hello Steve, another great will it start video, good to see Geoffrey over here giving you a hand watched one of his videos yesterday looks like he's got some nice old gear as well Regards Drew
Gday Drew. Thank you mate yes I was happy with how it went. It was great having Geoffrey here. He has a wonderful collection of stuff indeed. Thanks again mate
hi Steve and Geoffrey thanks for the video guys enjoyed it big time can not beat the old Allis Chalmers she sure is and old girl
Hi mate it’s an absolute pleasure. Glad you enjoyed. She certainly is an old one yes.
SWEET AS F, K
Thanks Ron. Brilliant mate
The ol Beauty will run forever it seems! Great job freeing it up!
Gday Rob thanks mate and thanks for watching.
Just found this channel. You have some pretty cool stuff.
Hi mate thank you. I’m glad you like it and thanks for reaching out. I’m going to head over and check your channel out
Only a GM, Detroit would start up after sitting so long within a decent timeframe. Cummins take forever to get started.
Gday Andrew yes they always seem to go if the spin over. Even completely worn out they still go mate. I like Cummins too though. I just have more Detroit stuff
@@stevesplacedownunder Many thanks 👍. I wasn't expecting your reply. I like some Cummins diesels like the C 160 and 290 and the V903 but I love GMs, always have since I was a kid. I know their strengths and weaknesses and how to set up a 71 with turbos and bigger injectors and they've got some kick then. A bit more torque down lower. Anyway stay safe you and family.
Nothing like a Jimmy Love the sound of them running
Certainty mate that’s right. Brilliant sound
Nice one Steve haven't done any work on that type of engine very interesting mate 👍
They are a great engine to work in mate. I’m certainly no expert on them but can get around them alright I guess
Good to see the old Allis fire up. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Stephen thanks as always mate
She's purring like a kitten!
Certainly did mate. I was very happy with the condition of that engine
Great video mate
Thanks Neil. I was happy enough with how it went mate
Love those Detroit engines they would take a beating and keep going
Hi mate they certainly are good things. Even when worn out they still run good
