@johnbrooks9523 hi mate thanks for this interesting comment. I am in Sydney so most probably too far away for a tune, but I will be okay with it otherwise. That would be magnificent though. It could be a HZ, it was pulled out of one of those type of utes to fit a 253 and I got the 202 off them. I have a few separate manifolds here off a 173 and a 186 actually, but never considered it because it used to run good and was okay. The input shaft I thought was out of an m21 that blew up on me, I did have a 3 speed but don’t remember pulling it apart, maybe I did, was a long time ago. But you are the specialist like you said and I’m certainly not so maybe that’s what I did. The fuel system certainly needs a clean out yes, not hard to do, just none of this has ever been a priority with so many other things to fix and play with. It has for a long time had a dead miss though. Only runs on 5 cylinders. It’s not spark on that cylinder, the dizzy shaft isn’t bent(like I’ve seen on the v8s, hitting the firewall when pulling the engine out I’d say), it’s not a cam lobe, it’s not a valve because had the head off years ago to inspect. All I can think of now is a hydraulic lifter is seized in itself, this is the reason I mentioned a compression test, mainly on the cylinder that is missing. I recently came across this in a Yamaha golf cart we have here, same style of hydraulic lifter, and the plunger had seized in both of them and held the valves slightly open. It stopped running all together. After filming this I looked at it again to move it back into the shed and found the screw that goes through the advance actuator and into the condenser had fallen out because the thread in the condenser had stripped, so condenser wasn’t grounded or earthed. I then popped number one plug out and timed it quickly, but wasn’t far out. I have a timing light and will do it properly, to 6 degrees before from memory. I hit the starter button and it fired right up and idled no problem, then I put it back in the shed. Still running on 5 though. It may even have a 186 pushrod in it, I believe they are a different length. It was very responsive on the throttle. When I get time I will do another tune up video. Look forward to your response. Thank you mate

As far as Holden motors goes I liked the 186 bored out to 192, Rebuilt myself, They when really well in anything, mine was in an old HT ute, with a 25/65 cam, extracted 2''' exhaust. I know of blokes that had the same motor in tractors and Land Rovers. The best motors Holden made I was always told. This one looks good in the Cat, maybe a tune up. Thanks for video.
The 202 had a higher compression ratio?..I remember blokes preferred 186, (I had chev slushmatic 2 spd,in a ht, but felt 202's, had a bit more poke), a cousin had a nice Hg monaro (gold, with the stripes), that had a 186 s, and 3 on the tree. (The lumpy cam made it sound good). I wonder if he knows, where it is now.
Not a computer chip or sensor in sight!! Love what you're doin mate..when an engine was an engine and thats it! The petrol glass bought a tear to my eye👍good shit,
Awesome little machine , definitely needs a good tune up , I remember when a was a kid , my dad put a 170 ford pursuit engine into a 1950s Massey Harris tractor, which was my grandfather’s,it use to wheel stand, a farmer bought it and used it plow a paddock and he said it used to pull stumps out at idle,
Thank you Steve for putting this video up I always thoroughly enjoy watch all of your videos. It is really nice to see somebody who loves working on old equipment and also shows all of the good and bad things that happen along the way. Please put up another video on the D2 I really like watch videos on old earthmoving. They are awesome
Gday Steve, that’s bloody awesome, good tune and a good run won’t do any harm, fantastic footage from back in the day and the cab over look pretty flash as a rigid to mate, great to see the D2 moving, cheers
Hi mate. Yeah it’s a good little thing to have. Fairly unique. The Kenworth did look good mate yes. We took it and my white 4000 all the way to Alice Springs back in 2010. Huge run for it. Took an old Diamond T on the back for a bloke
D2-02 Lol Give the old girl a bit of love mate, those old strommy WW single barrel carbs are okay too so unless shes rooted it'll probably scrub up okay with a kit and pump. I did a quicky donk swap with an old Iseki orchard tractor years ago for a mates old man, He had a few old Volvos kicking around to we nicked a B20 redblock 4 cyl auto and made it work with some cheap RHS and some redgum fence posts and the old 4 speed manual. Half a pack of CIG sticks and an old transarc and a few borrowed ratchet straps. The old bloke shat flames about the fenceposts and the arc rods but he soon came round with the Inter bubbling around the 20 acres with a 4 foot mowing deck behind it. Not even close to nice and solid like your Cat but im told it was still running nearly 40 years later.... I reckon it was the Italia race paint we added :-)
Hi mate. Great comment, interesting read on what you did here. Yes it won’t be much wrong with the Holden. Those carbs haven’t got many adjustments on them. Thanks for sharing

Another beaut vid thanks Steve. Love the old Cat ... like something out of Mad Max. I'm a great fan of the old red Holdens. 186 was my engine of choice. I've seen an old relic forklift years ago running an old Holden repower- so quiet and smooth. I'm still in mourning since GM shut Holden so we can't lose your channel as well. It's fair dinkum man cave stuff, complete with cool things, old memories, junk and a few cold snacks to round it all off. Looking forward to 2025 👍 BTW the 318 in the Cat would be a beast but let's keep it red for now 😊
Thank you Jimmy. Yeah I think it’s a good little thing mate. Fairly unique. That are a great old engine. I’ve always been a fan of them. Will do a tune up video soon

In my 61 years I have found knockers and keyboard warriors to be just wingers Your Channel has always delivered great videos. I love what you do and it has inspired me to enjoy the old machines I have . Keep up the great work mate
Hi Jim thanks for reaching out mate. Yes it has opened my eyes to the amount of different people and personalities out there. It’s unbelievable. Most are great people, but then you get a real parasite that judges your life and ability on a 20 second clip, after spending all weekend most times filming the editing it down to a 25 minute video. Can be extremely frustrating, but I’m learning very quickly not to worry about it and I’m the stronger one for having a go. It’s positive blokes like you that will keep the channel going mate. Thank you 🙏🙏
First time watcher. What a great channel you have. AND YES, Holden 6's are very much underrated. It was awesome to see that 202 hauling that little CAT with ease..... AND pulling that huge Volvo...... Gotta say, growing up as a 66 vintage with these PowerPoint's and working on more than 1 or 2, I would never have imagined. Subscribed and liked and looking forward to more stuff as well as catching up on your already released stuff as well...... By the way, I love 'Brown Sandwhich', I'm going to be using that from now on😂😂
Hi mate. Leave the 202 in D2 . It sounds ok, just needs some love and attention. Great video mate. It just popped up on my screen so I watched it and then subscribed. All the best.
I did an engine swap on the D2 with an old Nuffield tractor. The motor on those sat on rails so it was easy to adapt them to the Cat. This is going back at least 40 years. I used it as a bulldozer for a while after the conversion then sold it on. I remember one of the tracks kept coming off so it had to go. I was around 20 years old at that time. Fun times.
I can remember when I was at TAFE, when I was an apprentice we learned about the basic principles of carburettors (diesel mechanics) the diagram used was lifted straight out of the HR holden manual.
Hi Simon thank you mate I’m glad you like it. All good about donating mate. I certainly don’t expect anyone to do that, but some like to and insist on helping which blows my mind to see the appreciation we get. Good to see people enjoying what we do here

Handy old piece of kit. Probably worth putting a kit through the carb. It may be worth adding a little fuel store as that old rubber in those fuel pumps doesn't like ethanol in the modern fuel. Back in the early 2000's you could still get lead replacement fuel.
Steve that is great job you have done on that little dozer with the Holden engine in it bet it would pulled a few plows and things around in its younger days for sure .keep pushing on mate you get there for sure
Great video mate, I reckon a video of either tuning up this 202 and getting all the others running would be aweosme, ive always wanted to learn more about them
Back in the day there were so many surplus 202 and 186 engines they were installed in everything from concrete trucks, generators and other plant. Worked at a couple of boily workshops over the years that had an old chamberlain crane repowered with a 202
That old 6 sounds great Steve, and should run that dozer just fine. Course if you take that pound of coffee and gravel out of the carb and clean the points it may smooth out a bit...8^) Just kidding!
The petrol glass bought a tear to my eye👍good shit,
Hi mate. No nothing modern here, just good old stuff. I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Awesome little machine , definitely needs a good tune up , I remember when a was a kid , my dad put a 170 ford pursuit engine into a 1950s Massey Harris tractor, which was my grandfather’s,it use to wheel stand, a farmer bought it and used it plow a paddock and he said it used to pull stumps out at idle,
Yeah it does mate. I like those old Ford engines. Probably a bit fast like this one is but it still does the job. Thanks for sharing
@@stevesplacedownunder its different, it works and done the jobs you used it for , and do plenty more, that’s ok all good
I love watching this kind of videos
It is so informative.
Fantastic mate
Great HQ Cat, cool idea🤠
Thanks Jim
Keen as for that twin steer, got heaps of old cool shit there I've never seen before. I'm hooked
Thanks for watching mate. She’s getting very close to the road now
She’s got some power
Bruce'd be proud of you
Thank you Steve for putting this video up I always thoroughly enjoy watch all of your videos. It is really nice to see somebody who loves working on old equipment and also shows all of the good and bad things that happen along the way. Please put up another video on the D2 I really like watch videos on old earthmoving. They are awesome
Thanks for the nice support mate. I’m glad you enjoy what we do here. I will do a tune up video of it when I get a chance
Thanks mate, love the video.
Hi mate. Thank you for this. My apologies for the late response. The comments exploded on this video. Your support never goes unnoticed
@@stevesplacedownunder I reckon people are warming to the tractor videos mate. That's gotta be a good thing. Hope you had a great weekend at the 40th.
@anteast2684 I hope so. It’s a lot of work. Yeah it was good to see everyone. Mine is coming up in 2 months
@@stevesplacedownunder that's going to be really untidy from what I have seen of you and the clan on the videos. Gonna be a hoot.
@@anteast2684 yeah I’d say it will be
Great to see the D2 run another use for a mighty 202 thanks for sharing it with us.
It is good mate. Been a while for me also. It’s my pleasure
Always a pleasure mate
all good loved the old footage keep up the good work in keeping this old iron going
Cheers
Thanks mate. Yes I thought it was good to add in the old footage
Great channel Steve loved the old Albion went in them as a kid sam in England Devon 😊
Thank you mate. There are a few videos on that one. I’m glad you liked it
Hi Steve love all videos keep them coming I really appreciate and enjoy your videos and work on all your equipment cheers mate
Thanks, will do I'm glad you're enjoying them. hopefully there will be a lot more
Fully enjoying all your videos, and I'm looking forward to the next one.. keep them coming. 👍👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
Hope you keep with the videos. Your one hell of a good hand. I'll keep watching it if you keep making them.
Thanks Steve. We will see how the rest of the year goes for us mate
D2-02 Lol
Give the old girl a bit of love mate, those old strommy WW single barrel carbs are okay too so unless shes rooted it'll probably scrub up okay with a kit and pump.
Ww strombergs are 2 barrell.
@garygardner6536 Could have been a BX, fuck knows mate it was 40 years ago
What a beast! 😊
Thanks for watching 🙏
Only just stumbled across this site....
Great stuff so far. Reminds me of Diesel Creek channel.
I've subscribed and liked.....and will go back and watch all your previous videos.
Good onya for keeping the old gear running.
Hi Bill thank you mate for watching. I’m glad you like it and there’s plenty more similar content to come
Another beaut vid thanks Steve.
I subscribed after seeing Old American Iron video. I always enjoy seeing the old equipment saved. Once it's gone, it's gone. I get to enjoy Goeffrey's old equipment at the area shows. My husband and I show engines and other equipment as well.
Hi Heather thanks for having a look and for the subscription. Yes Geoffrey cam from Wisconsin to Sydney and stayed with me for 10 days. We had a great time. I got to know him over the phone. It’s good that you and your husband show this stuff also. It’s a great hobby to be involved in
Awesome skills brother you have always had my deepest respect !!!!
Thank you so much robert
great conversion, a bit of work and she would be a great machine
Yeah mate it will be okay. A few adjustments and should be good
Hello Steve hope you and the family are good enjoyed the video on the old cat D2 nice conversion mate and it kept the old girl working when the original engine was shaged out and liked the video of back in the day hope you will keep going mate love the old gear you keep finding and rescuing you don't find stuff in the UK as easy nowadays nowadays
Thanks Keith I’m glad you liked it mate. The original could have been fixed with big dollars but still got something that a lot of others have got also. I like it how it is for now mate
@@stevesplacedownunder yes mate the old girl dose you proud mate

Hi Anthony thank you mate🙏
Runs like a Rolls Royce!!
Hi Steve I must admit that I find people to be very harsh . I feel your frustration with your channel . Just a few words from me mate. In my 61 years I have found knockers and keyboard warriors to be just wingers
Your Channel has always delivered great videos.
By the way, I love 'Brown Sandwhich', I'm going to be using that from now on😂😂
Hi David thanks for watching mate and I’m glad you like it. It’s hard work but I enjoy sharing it all with people like you. Plenty more to come mate
Allways good Steve and family
Thanks Ron
Hi mate. Leave the 202 in D2 . It sounds ok, just needs some love and attention. Great video mate. It just popped up on my screen so I watched it and then subscribed. All the best.
Hi mate. Yes it’s staying in there for the time being. I’m glad you had a look and enjoyed it. Thanks for subscribing 🙏
The 202 is great engine that will run for ever if given a bit of love every now and then
Yes mate it sure will
Keep the videos coming steve your doing a great job mate
Realy enjoying them 👍🏻
Hi Mark thanks for reaching out mate. I’m glad you enjoy it. Helps us a lot
Great conversion
What a cracking job you did mate fitting this engine in there 👍👍
Thanks Ronald. Glad you liked it mate
Fun times.
Hi mate sounds interesting. Certainly are fun times. Would of been good with a diesel
I can remember when I was at TAFE, when I was an apprentice we learned about the basic principles of carburettors (diesel mechanics) the diagram used was lifted straight out of the HR holden manual.
When I did my plant mechanic course in 2001 we worked on them also learning ignition and carbys
I would love a tipp truck for firewood one day. So this channel is a massive inspiration for me
Fantastic mate thank you
Keep it up mate, Awesome work and happy to donate when I have the funds, really enjoy your videos.
Hi Simon thank you mate I’m glad you like it. All good about donating mate. I certainly don’t expect anyone to do that, but some like to and insist on helping which blows my mind to see the appreciation we get. Good to see people enjoying what we do here
Its awesome brother from another country down under !!!! Say hi to the mrs !!! This is an awesome rewind to see what you were up against back then as well as where you have gotten to today !!!!
Gday brother from another country. Yeah mate I thought you’d enjoy the old footage
@stevesplacedownunder for sure that's just awesome brother !!!! Maybe you could put some together and make I short video lol !!!
Thanks for the video Steve, hope you get the subscriptions you need to keep the channel growing 👍
Hi Paul. I hope so too mate. It will let me provide you all with a lot more entertainment by having more time. I have plans but need the growth first. Thanks for your support
Handy old piece of kit. Probably worth putting a kit through the carb. It may be worth adding a little fuel store as that old rubber in those fuel pumps doesn't like ethanol in the modern fuel. Back in the early 2000's you could still get lead replacement fuel.
Yeah mate I most probably will. I ended up finding a small problem after filming that I will show you on the tune up video
Beautiful old machine
Thank you mate
Steve that is great job you have done on that little dozer with the Holden engine in it bet it would pulled a few plows and things around in its younger days for sure .keep pushing on mate you get there for sure
It would have done a lot of work over the years mate yes. Not a lot since the Holden was in it, but a bit. I like it
Awesome . New account Steve for me great video
Thank you mate🙏
Tune er up Steve old chap, those old Chevy 6 bangers run fine !!!!! Crack some Cold ones for me another Steve from Chicago Cheers $ 🍻
We will give her a tune Steve yes mate. Will certainly film it for you
Thanks Steve. Just started watching. Cheers Evo.
Thank you mate
138 red, great little engine.
There was a dozer down here that was repowered with a rolls royce merlin.
They are mate yes. I have heard of it I think.
@@stevesplacedownunderthe RR Merlin is a V12 that powered the Spitfire (& others ) in WW2

Bloody brilliant a 202 in the D2. Be great to see a diagnostic video on the old 202. What a Sweet little machine.
Yeah mate I think it’s a good one. I will do a tune up when I get a chance
Great video mate, I reckon a video of either tuning up this 202 and getting all the others running would be aweosme, ive always wanted to learn more about them
I’ve got both coming up mate. Tune up and one on a stand going to try and get going
The most classic motor of all time Holden red motor 182? grey beard here , NSW remote rural off grid here ...............new sub here .
Hi mate they certainly are here in Australia anyway. Thanks for watching and the sun. Great stuff
@@stevesplacedownunder Yep .
Back in the day there were so many surplus 202 and 186 engines they were installed in everything from concrete trucks, generators and other plant. Worked at a couple of boily workshops over the years that had an old chamberlain crane repowered with a 202
Hi mate. Yes I believe there were. They were a good little unit and powerful for what they were. Great for repower
Keep up the good work
Thank you Richard
keep em rolling mate!
Thanks Rick will do mate
Great vid ticked all the boxes ,love old cats and Holden red motors
Thank you Paul, no quiet a Cat any more but still some of it there🤣. Thanks for watching mate

Hello there, thanks hopefully we can keep them coming. Cheers
Thanks for sharing

Love your work, have subscribed looking forward to your next post.
Awesome, thank you that’s tops
That old 6 sounds great Steve, and should run that dozer just fine. Course if you take that pound of coffee and gravel out of the carb and clean the points it may smooth out a bit...8^) Just kidding! It would make a great tug for moving your collection around on soft ground. Great video, I enjoyed it. Cheers!
It won’t take much I don’t think Jeff to get it running right. I will do a video on it when I get a chance
Bloody awesome 👍
