Trying to breed bsf but not having any luck. I have a ton of flies but have never had eggs. My setup seems to be correct (86ish degrees, above 30% humidity, food scraps for attractant, laying media of woods slats and cardboard, water to drink) I’ve done both an indoor and outdoor setup with no luck. They mostly just sit on the mesh. Any ideas?
What about humidity, is there a target level you are maintaining? Also what's the purpose of the soil on the ground, never saw that in other setups. Thanks.
The humidity at around 70% is better for bsf rearing at all stages. The soil gives them natural impression. Besides, there were consequences of bsf falling from top of the net on the hard surface and ultimately dying. The soil prevents it.
@@bsfagrofarmnepal Thanks for responding, I live in Greece directly at the coast and even thought the wind keeps blowing from the sea the hydrometer never touches 60% saturation. Is the climate in Nepal naturally more saturated or do you employ methods to increase the humidity around the cage? I'm asking since I had a full cage with around 100 bsf adults none of which mated or laid eggs. I ended up releasing them all after 5 days since my cage was nothing more than a grandiose death camp. I made sure they had direct morning sunlight, space to fly around, a shaded place to lay their eggs and of course an attractant, yet nothing happened. My only clue is a lack of humidity. Also thanks for the information on soil ground coverage, I'll definitively implement this in my further efforts.
The flies have higher mating and egg production rate in the morning and in the evening at right temperature and humidity. Spraying water periodically in the cage, especially during these two periods might also solve your issue. we are coming with new videos regarding these issues and all other issues very soon. @@bsfagrofarmnepal Yeah I tried spraying the cage a few times but unfortunately nothing changed so I ended up releasing the poor things. Would be a shame to just let them die needlessly. I'll sew a bigger net for my next trial and implement your soil idea which should help to retain moisture as well. Maybe I'll also install a plastic sheet some distance around the cage so that wind can't just blow the moisture away but force it to evaporate up through the cage. Anyway, again thanks for responding and I'll be waiting for your next upload.

Attractant are changed every 2-3 days. Yes mosquito net can also be used.

The maximum we produced was 15 grams.

A wet cloth dipped in water is placed inside the cage.

4 hours a day is best at temperature above 27° Celcius.
Which artificial light have you used?
Normally, we rely on natural sunlight for mating. In this setup we have used 40w led light.
