Our Honest Review of the Nemo Stargaze Luxury Recliner

- *DISCLAIMER* All opinions expressed on the following video are purely our opinion! Because we have had many people vehemently disagree with us on the quality and packing of the chair, we will be doing a follow up video because Nemo has RECALLED this version of the stargazer.
When it comes to choosing a camp chair, it is extremely important to consider all aspects of a chair before you actually buy one. If you are considering purchasing a Nemo Stargaze Luxury Recliner, you definitely need to watch this video to see the main reason why we want to return these chairs.
This is the review we wanted to see when we were shopping for a chair, but were unable to find, because all the reviews we watched offered glowing reviews, yet glossed over this major issue with the chairs.
If you watched our review of the Nemo Dagger, Viola and Forte sleeping bags, and the Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pads, it is obvious that we are Nemo addicts, so we don't want anyone to thing that we are opposed to Nemo as a whole. These chairs have one major issue, and if this very fixable issue were fixed, we would never stop talking about how fabulous these chairs are.

Thank you! We felt the same way! If we had known that the chair was such a pain to pack up, we probably wouldn't have even bought it. When we made our purchase. We had watched all the reviews on TH-cam, and not a single person brought up the packing/ fitment issue.

I've had this chair since it's inception. I have zero complaints and it's the best chair I've every owned.
You roll the fabric over the folded frame, then pack, easy.
We really just wish it would fit in the carrying bag! We'll do a glowing review when they fix the bag, but I checked them out at REI, and these chairs still have the issues that we pointed out. We have many nemo products, and while we love their gear, we just personally feel that a $150 chair should at least fit in the carrying bag.
Right on. Trust me we've tried that, it's still a tight fit. The build and comfort of it is great, just packing is a little cumbersome.

Great review! My chair always looks like a hot mess putting back into the bag and it never looks like the legs will fit. But it always does fit surprisingly. That’s the only drawback for me. The comfort is amazing and I’m 6’ 250 lbs and it handles no problems.
Totally agree. We love the strength and quality build of it. As a man do you have a slight issue with the sides pushing your legs closed? It's a small thing but if I lean forward it forces my legs closed, I'm only micro analyzing...lol

@@neverlostadventures way it's suppose to be bro trust me any problems Nemo will replace....lifetime warranty....best on the market and it's what 3yrs old or so now nothing has came close .....we got it for the stars you may want the one they made before the stargazer ...each to there own...take care be safe

If you watch some of the other videos on this chair, you’ll see they insert the legs back in bag first, which seem to make it much easier in packing it up…
We'll have to try it! We are actually planning on buying a new chair and doing a follow up video, as we have a positive feeling that Nemo may have made the carrying case a bit bigger for the new edition of this chair.
The Stargazer is EXPENSIVE!!!!
Your opinion: is there enough value added that make the purchase worthwhile?
Yeah there is, BUT! Here's a thought to think about, I rarely ever use the head rest, but wife uses it a lot. If you think you'd recline back much get it, if not, get the other version without head rest. It will save some cash and be easier set-up/ tear-down. In short Nemo is a great company, these chairs are well built, we feel for what's out there, they should be a bit cheaper, and a little less cumbersome. For a multi night stay, great! For hop and pops camps....mmmmm maybe think quicker set-up chair.

My wife and I just started looking at these and the cupholder and other pocket, to us really seems invalid to use if we got these and there are other places that can be at a higher point for mesh pockets that I see already as a better option.
They are very pricey and surprised that SO many companies never make their storage bags slightly bigger for so many of us that could never repack it the way factories do. Just a tiny bit bigger for so many items is all it takes to cut down packing time and struggle.
Your absolutely right, but to let you know Nemo has fixed I believe most of the problems. I have been wanting to demo or buy a "newer" version to show the comparison. Just haven't. I'm looking to buy the super fast, light weight chair from Cliq. Check them out!

I have the same problem packing it into the bag. It's almost a deal breaker for me. I have found that if I put the legs in first, and then the seat chair, it closes easier.
Also those back poles are ridiculously difficult for me. I have to get my husband to put it in. But I do like how small it packs down and the carry bags (could be slightly bigger like you said) would have made these perfect.
yeah if we would have known the complications before we probably wouldn't have bought either. It's to expensive for minor problems. I did watch a few other vids that help out the packing, but it's still a bit cumbersome. We love Nemo but there are other chairs that are cheaper, well built and easier to stow away. You look like you're trying to shove it in the bag have tried rolling the fabric up more so it's not so loose when you put it in?
We totally have! Actually, the bag itself is just too small for the chair (fabric and all) we recently talked to a few busines who sell Nemo products, and apparently Nemo has updated the carrying bag a little bit. We plan on doing a follow up review, but honesty these are so many more truly wonderful chairs out there now that we would recommend over these.

Looks nice. Seems insane to have the cupholder on the inside like that. Thedy should have it on top/outside of the pole like on the kingcamp similar chair....
We agree on that. Depending on cup and fill height fluid can spill over. Like we keep saying, great chair, solid build/ construction but with price, slight packing issues and it being a little cumbersome to assemble/ disassemble has us rethink the purchase. We love Nemo products though.

Oh... btw... finally picked these up... with the packing issue. I found putting the legs in first and then rolling/ folding the back rest correctly allows for easy fitment.

Yes your correct, great chair, high price....I gues worth it for quality material and build. To long for set up take down.
I know there are some other options, can't think of any brands right now that are similar.... if I come across one I'll let you know.

Cool, thanks, will do. We also went to REI and checked them out again and noticed that the packs seem a bit bigger, so maybe we just bought a bunk set. I'm guessing they revised the pack.

@@Yosistershouse that's great! I/we have "common sense" too, but as I said before I think they have altered the bag situation. We tried one at REI last month and it was way easier to put back. I think our other gripe was the cup holder, as a male it was a bit cumbersome to have an open mouth cup without spilling and swinging. So thanks for you comment but mocking us with our opinion compared to our knowledge is simply disrespectful.
there is a video on how to pack it up, I just bought the moon light chairs more compact and convenient I think
yeah we thought about purchasing that but went this direction. I think Nemo has fixed the pack issue. We went to REI and play with a newer chair and it was really easy to put back. Go figure. Either way I still think they are very expensive.

My poles were hard to put in the chair to then after 3 months it punched through the bottom part of it. I called them and they said that they now have slightly smaller poles so that they go in way easier!
oh yeah they also repaired the hole for free.... even sent a free return shipping label.

Bought on sale so price is ok alot of gear set up is knowing the tricks try packing your kayak the first time for a two week kayak trip getting older now and i use the chair for rv breaks lunches and music now
right on! yeah we've tried a few ways to pack it. We've now learned that Nemo has made a few changes since. We're thinking of buying a newer version, comparing ours to it then having a give-a-way for all 3 chairs. Thanks for watching, commenting and your support.
I have two of those small chairs. They are great. Only reason I am looking for something else is on the beach they dig in. I think I am going to grab a piece of 2x4 and make two places fir the feet to sit in. I agree that the Nemo not worth $200.
Right on. There are some other really good chairs my buddy bought, forgot the name though.

Bruh... you're comparing apples to oranges. How about you compare your little light weight chair to the Nemo's Moonlite™ Reclining Camp Chair.

Good review - and valid pros/cons. I’m in the market for a nemo, watching your vid hasn’t changed my mind about purchasing the chair, only now I’m going to buy something similar to the second chair you demonstrated as well. Great as that little chair is (size/weight/pack ability/takedown/repack) I doubt very much it would surpass the comfort of the nemo (not withstanding the issues you raised being a big guy) me being average size. I’ve got a couple of down jackets (Canada Goose & Arcteryx) the cost about $500 each, there’re a real pain in the a.. to pack into their stuff sack/pocket - 1st world problem
Thanks! much appreciated. We agree, the chair is great, but considering the price and it taking a bit for set up/ break down there are others out there for cheaper/faster. Although we keep coming back to the quality and comfort of the chair, also Nemo has great customer service. Yes, we love the little chair, its great for quick on the go bbq, concerts in the park, backpacking or pop up a chair in the garage situations.
The Stair Gazer is more of the long camping trips or where the chair will be up for awhile, great chair just time consuming and a bit large when packed. Thanks for your support and I hope you make the best decision that works for you, cheers!
Hmm, other TH-camrs demonstrate packing up this chair, including Nemo. Check them out.
I have a Helinox chair like the second one you demonstrated and it weighs just over a pound. It’s great for backpacking but it’s not even the same league as the Stargazer for comfort. Apples vs Oranges.
I got the Stargazer for half price and plan to use it as a recliner to relax and nap in. Paired with the Nemo table and a small foot stool it should work great
That said, l don’t know why these companies make their bags so damn tight. Adding an inch or two wouldn’t hurt and would make life so much easier
Totally agree, but we were just being funny to compare these totally different chairs. Yes, the smaller one and your Helix are definitely backpacking chairs. The Stargazer is not, and more a camping one. They are both great for their purpose.
To be fare, Nemo did remedy most of the nuances from Gen 1. We want to review the new version, but we don't really want to spend the money. Thought about having a raffle if we did.

Thank you! We watched/read so many reviews of this chair before we bought it, but nobody addressed any of the negative aspects about it. If someone had done a review as honest as ours, I would have definitely left this chair at the store!
