Machines and a varity of bag styles, sizes and thicknesses. FYI...I am only a customer of theirs, I'm not a representative, influencer, etc.
I bought a vacuum sealer from Aldi's last week for $29.99. I have always wanted one but did not want to pay upwards of $150. With the crazy increase in the cost of food, I am more conscious of buying items when on sale. The sealer allows me to buy larger quantities and freeze for longer periods. Als ol for refrigerator items, especially cheese. I can extend it's life before it turns green (i.e. bad) by vacuum sealing each time after opening the cheese.
I'm probably a little over excited about this but I have to say WOW! I'm gluten free but my hubby isn't. When I bake a batch of cookies there is no way I can eat them all by myself in time. This worked amazingly well and now I have nice size portions in the freezer. This cuts the cost of the more expensive bags that I will continue to use for heavy duty items. Brilliant! Thank You

Great find! Question when you said to place the 2 cut yellow seals on the left and right and the blue in the middle is that Inside the bag at the place of the opening? Also does it say vacuumed as long as the food savor bags?
Great tip thanks. I have done something similar but instead of using the ribbed pieces of the freezer bag I used pieces of a food saver bag that has the texture to allow the air to be removed.
Also let the heat strip cool well between processing bags. They get pretty hot and will melt the bag after the 3-4th ones. Double bag for better storage if going over 6 months or so
It is a good idea for certain items. And for others, even IF you buy PREMIUM freezer bags you have to be careful of how you handle the bags when going through your freezer moving items around looking for certain items. As even using good to premium freezer bags, when filled with hard, frozen foods become very delicate and susceptible to abrasions that go right through those bags if bags are slid, shifted, bumped or banged into each other. And you KNOW how when you stack bags of food in your freezer, once frozen don't exactly just move freely without scraping against or banging into other bags. And that's when said abrasions scrape or poke holes in the bags.
I have the same vacuum sealer as you. If you remove the two black foam rings from the top of the lid and bottom, rinse them off and reinstall, the vacum will stop when complete instead of continuously running and you have to hit the button to start the seal process. I think the foam padding wears out over time and allows air to pass during the vacum and sealing process. This works for me. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! I reuse my vac bags several times. When I cut off the top to get the food inside, I use that strip to seal ziploc or other heavy freezer type bags, like you do in the video. Boy, does it save money!
Geeeeze! I just spent $30 on Food Saver bags (1 box left on the shelf). I could have bought a V8, I mean a box of Ziplocks. Gosh, I am truly having a Duh Moment! Thank you John.
When you cut open your FoodSaver bag, cut right below seal with sharp scissors, wash with hot soap water and let thoroughly dry. Store these used bags on or in an empty paper towel cardboard holder to prevent creases. When you use this used bag, if end has slightly curled, cut a small portion off using the blade in your FoodSaver for a perfectly straight edge. Voila!
You can recluse your potatoes chip bags, bags that were heat sealed already made when you bought it. But just seal function. Keeps chips from going stale and other foods as well.

My wife gets the 30% off coupons occasionally for kohls and whenever she does I stock up on the quart size vacuum seal bags and try to reuse them once or twice. Now I'll have to look for the industrial size boxes of zip lock bags on sale.
I tried this for storing my razor dull blades and broken glass, it didn't work and I think my vacuum sealer is broken. Should I have separated the blades from the glass or did I have some other problem? Asking for a friend.
Umm...ironically, there is a way to preserve razor blades using a vac sealer. Just stick them in a small wide mouth jar and use the jar sealer attachment. It'll keep them from rusting. Though I'm not sure why you'd bother, but, hey, I've heard weirder.
I re-use the vacuum sealer bags all the time. I actually put the food in the cheap storage bags from Aldi, then into the vac bags, then seal them. If the food is frozen when I need it, I cut the vac bag open, remove the inner bag, and thaw. No washing necessary.
I bought one 6 months ago and am (because of your video) about to use it!! Thank you bunches!! Being an empty nest-I waste too much!! An absolute must!!

Excellent Idea ! Parchment paper can help with the sharp stuff, but also... "When you vacuum seal cheese, you're locking in the moisture and keeping out any air. ... Over time, the moisture in the cheese will cause it to deteriorate. So, if you're going to vacuum seal your cheese, wrap it first in wax or parchment paper." - cheesyplace.com
@Guy Fieri If you are saying a good Parmesan can keep on the counter for weeks, but yellowed colored salted wax called processed cheese, needs some help ? - I totally agree
Never had any problems you mention when vacuum sealing cheeses. I've had blocks of cheese aging in my refrigerator for up to three or four years without any problems. White and Yellow Cheddars, Parmesans and Romanos.
@@rubbnsmoke I don't get it either Mike. My food saver "manual" said not to do it, and I was looking for explanations. Most commercial places vacuum without moisture condensing on the wrap, or adding parchment. I call bullshit ?
@@shoddyproductions9793 Well, I don't know if I'd call bullshit on any instructions stating to "NOT" use parchment or other protective items. I've used parchment and/or paper towel when vacuum sealing many dry goods. Especially items such as dry active yeast, flour, dry powdered milk to prevent any powder from being pulled out of the bag and into the vacuum chamber itself. Any powder that gets into the vacuum chamber could actually get into the vacuum pump itself and destroy it, effective destroying the entire unit. But I NEVER use parchment or wax paper when sealing cheeses. I will occasionally put a piece of parchment folded in a few layers to protect bags from a sharp corner/point of a bone when sealing meats that have bone in them. Never had a problem with chicken poking a hole in a bag. Steaks, pork and lamb chops do have bones that you should protect the bag from any sharp parts.
What a great idea! ... I have tried to do this in the past, but of course, I did not have your "genius mind" so I didn't think of the cutting and inserting of the ribs... I am definitely going to try this out with your method... Yes, those thick Food Saver bags are very costly... Thanks for sharing this insight ....
This will be great for my none perishable items like when I want to vacuum seal pills, bandages, and such for prepping that if the bag did leak a bit it won't be food being wasted or short-term food storage.
What if you put the blue ones on either side and a yellow one in the middle will it still work?? :P Couldn't resist. Yes I checked the mirror, didnt see anything hahaha

So um, question. Do those sealers make bags from rolls of plastic? I have 6 mil film I bought for a green house project. Plenty leftover film on that roll to cut down and make bags. I don't know how these sealers work. So this is just a thought.
I just bought a different model Food Saver and I was looking for any hacks to create your own sealable bags. BAH HA HA HAA!!! It's been awhile since I've heard that one. "Yellow and blue make green!" Damn good deal on those. I prefer the freezer bags as well. Yes I used mine to seal cheese cubes in the refrigerator. I mixed the different kinds of cheese and sealed two bags . I left them in refrigerator for 3, and 6 months later I got to use all of them but I had the original bags
Brilliant! The bags were the only reason I’ve been holding off on buying one... guess I have to get one now! Thanks!
Glad I could help!

Sharon E333 Wow. Yep. Only ONE person could think of this. Leave it to you to set everyone straight. I must go thank that lady in Italy. 😏
Meanwhile.. Go look in the mirror.
@@demaoseven878 Well, since you are on an American site, watching a video made by an American, who made a technique to save money and preserve food using bags by an American company , your actions seem to suggest you are more fond of America than your sarcasm implies...
I don't need to have any any fantasies about your preferred version of a deity foisted onto me in order to support well-run businesses that are locally, regionally, or nationally based. Neither does anyone else.
I also don't need to buy into any false fantasies that only people who live in a certain country can be innovative... as in "Good ol' American thinking", HURR!! HURR!!
Nothing wrong with America pride, but I have seen this on other posts. About buying American, since we can’t pay American workers Chinese wages, and if we’re willing to pay the very high prices for products, then by all means why not!
You want a laugh I know not to be the ding dong but my mind is so all over the place I vacuumed 5 lbs of pastas last night in the zip locks 🤦♀️🤦♀️ woke up to you know what! Lol 😂 I’ll tell no one about this but I’ll tell you because you made me laugh, I always say come on don’t be that person, and last night bwhaha thstbwas me!
I watched this video a few months ago and I have been doing this ever since. Thank you so much this is a great idea.
Thanks Glad it helps.
Awsome, I make Jerky and have been Himming and Hawing over a sealer because the bags are expensive. Love it, Thank You!
Enjoy
My wife gets the 30% off coupons occasionally for kohls and whenever she does I stock up on the quart size vacuum seal bags and try to reuse them once or twice. Now I'll have to look for the industrial size boxes of zip lock bags on sale.
Holy Cow - this really worked! Used Quart baggies too. Thanks John!
Glad it helped
I tried this for storing my razor dull blades and broken glass, it didn't work and I think my vacuum sealer is broken. Should I have separated the blades from the glass or did I have some other problem? Asking for a friend.
If you add nails you should be good. 10 penny works best.
@@JohnSolar283 And thumb tacks. Can't forget them!
@Steve L Could work but I think the fleeing suspects may need those to remember you by.
Tried it on my brand new dart set. Ran outta freezer bags and used a paper sack. Put out the fire too late and need another sealer. Any suggestions?
Umm...ironically, there is a way to preserve razor blades using a vac sealer. Just stick them in a small wide mouth jar and use the jar sealer attachment. It'll keep them from rusting. Though I'm not sure why you'd bother, but, hey, I've heard weirder.
Thank you for explaining the channel and how to press it down will save me from multiple times I have to reset the bag!
Finally got a Food saved and I've already loaded up my box freezer.😁 I plan on washing and reusing the bags whenever I can.
Didn’t know you could wash bags out, but why not??? Thank you!
I re-use the vacuum sealer bags all the time. I actually put the food in the cheap storage bags from Aldi, then into the vac bags, then seal them. If the food is frozen when I need it, I cut the vac bag open, remove the inner bag, and thaw. No washing necessary.
It is great ! How long you can keep it fresh ?..
I prepare for winter so Dec thru May is my time frame
I'm definitely going to try this. I love my foodsaver but I hate the cost of the bags. THANKS!
I tried this about 10 minutes ago and used a basic dollar store cheap bag, presto it worked easy peasy
Now the worlds your clam
I bought one 6 months ago and am (because of your video) about to use it!! Thank you bunches!! Being an empty nest-I waste too much!! An absolute must!!
I hope it gets you where you need to be now days.
Good job!
That's a life saver and a money saver.
God bless you real good. Jude from Kentucky 🐴🌿🥀
Glad you liked it share with your friends.
😂😂😂 Thanks for making me laugh. I like how you explain things.
I've recently bought a foodsaver machine. I live I New Zealand and the bags here are so expensive. We have the brand glad here as well but I don't think that they are as thick as yours. I'm going to look into your great idea. Thank you
Your welcome. I was near your land in the 80s visiting Tonga
@@JohnSolar283 I've never been to Tonga but when I was growing up and as a primary school teacher I had friends and students who from many countries. The Pacific Islanders were always very polite and respectful of teachers. The kids worked hard and always tried to please which I related to as I'm always been called a people pleaser as if it's bad. I never thought it was a bad trait as I am/was always genuine.
being mean is a bad trait. People pleaser will result in a happy life.
What' about if you use the botton of the 🎒 bag....still have the zipper .
TO REUSE THE 🎒 BAG 🎒
🎒 ✌😷
TOMORROW...im going to try
this bags from dollar tree store.
THANKS FOR SHARING.
Wellllll? this is what i was questioning too....
you need air channels
Thank you, I have a vacuum machine for years but because de bags are to expensive. This idea is great!
Your welcome enjoy.
Great tip!
Thank you so much. I'm a big deer hunter. I would spend at least $50 on bags. Great hack.
Remember thickest freezer bags
"Be normal, okay?" I love it
Yeppers
I don't have a food sealer but this is so cool and innovative!!
Thank You
What a great idea! ... I have tried to do this in the past, but of course, I did not have your "genius mind" so I didn't think of the cutting and inserting of the ribs... I am definitely going to try this out with your method... Yes, those thick Food Saver bags are very costly... Thanks for sharing this insight ....
Such a smart thing to do. Thank you for saving us some money.
Thanks glad you liked it.
This will be great for my none perishable items like when I want to vacuum seal pills, bandages, and such for prepping that if the bag did leak a bit it won't be food being wasted or short-term food storage.
Good info to have
I use a similar method to seal mylar bags. I just use small strips of vacuum sealer bags in place of his strips from the ziploc bags.
I swear, I had no idea how much I could save by buying in bulk! Thank you!
Oh yes it wild once you really look at it.
Excellent idea!! (And I'm not gonna be one of "those people"....lol)
Great information... Thank you for sharing
Sharing... This will help a lots of people out there etc..
Son John (imagine Jerry Clower callin' ya) you are the man!! What a great idea!!!!!
My Rival model VS105 vacuum sealer won't work .But the sealer works 🤔 does this mean I have to buy another one
Sadly it would seem so.
What if you put the blue ones on either side and a yellow one in the middle will it still work?? :P Couldn't resist. Yes I checked the mirror, didnt see anything hahaha
Nicely done and well qualified secondary mirror follow up.....You have been pinned
@@JohnSolar283 thanks for your reply and help
This is awesome! I was watching sealing videos trying to decide if I wanted one and which one and then I thought, I bet the bags are ridiculous expensive. Awesomeness thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I would just sit watching the TV and eat the 5 lb block of cheese.
stripymccatpuss - Bwaahahaha!
Yeah. Like, why are you putting up the cheese at all? 😱
Lol! No kidding 😅
OMG I bust out laughing!
LMAO.... I know I love cheese !!!!
Thank you for sharing this hack! ☺️ It worked like a charm! I used Walmart's Great Value freezer bags. Sealed tortillas.
Glad you got to use it good info for those tough times.
Ha ha... Look in the mirror and see who the dingdong is! Crack me up still laughing
Fantastic...... getting ready to buy a sealer and this was a big help to save money
Just did a video on my channel of a really nice one crushes cans even.
i love it "your the ding dong" lmao
Glad you enjoyed Please share with your friends
I could never figure out why other plastic bags would not vacuum like the bags that come with it, now I know how to get it to work right.
Enjoy
Going to have to try this! When I use foodsaver bags, I try to wash them out and reuse them. The cost gets ridiculous when putting up meat during hunting season. Thanks for the tip!
So um, question. Do those sealers make bags from rolls of plastic? I have 6 mil film I bought for a green house project. Plenty leftover film on that roll to cut down and make bags. I don't know how these sealers work. So this is just a thought.
Yes they do
@@JohnSolar283 Thank you. Wheels be turning now...( =
I just bought a different model Food Saver and I was looking for any hacks to create your own sealable bags. Thanks for the tips and info on using those Ziploc heavy-duty thick bags to replace the Food Saver brand bags that are definitely costly. I subscribed to your channel John. Many thanks, from Canada.
🤣🤣🤣 "be normal, okay?"
Great video, thank you!!!
Don't be that guy who tries to vacuum pack a bag of screws. That cracked me up!
Omg it really worked, this is awesome hack for refrigerated items.. thank you so much
Glad it helped
Thanks for the info... works great!!!
Glad it helps got a great one for disinfecting all masks in about 10 Mins (lab Tested)
John Solar 283: I’m about to try this for the first time, but I want to get my head around the theory. That way I waste less product. Why do the ribbed strips need to be placed down through the bag, sir? It’s probably key to the process or you wouldn’t do it, so I hope you can help me out with this. :-)
Mr. John...this method is awesome! How did figure out how to do this? I guess by being very clever. Thanks for sharing.
Just sealed cheese….so worked…thank you!!
Glad you gave it a try
BAH HA HA HAA!!! It's been awhile since I've heard that one. "Yellow and blue make green!" Damn good deal on those. I prefer the freezer bags as well. Now go find a friend with a fork lift that you can barrow and order an industrial size roll of that thick mil food safe plastic sheets and you'll be set for life. (if only it were that easy).
Finally an Idea worth listening to
Just curious.... Why is the color of the strips matter? blue or yellow should work... right?
Other than that - this is VERY SMART !!
Color does not matter just the channels it creates.
