    This feeling that failure as an opportunity to grow is maybe a learnt experience. You can understand it in theory, but experiencing it is such a different thing.

    Isn't it interesting how much society tends to see-saw on this subject? Like how we give participation trophies to little kids and then how much of an issue some people make of that... I'm glad we're starting to move towards a healthy dialogue about the benefits of failing.

    I've always thought that fear is just anxiety about not knowing, and teaching ourselves to be excited about what might happen instead of fearing it can be really empowering.

    I think this ‘never give up’ mentality has lead to a whole lot of mental health issues around the world. Sometime, giving up is the healthiest thing to do.

    I'm sorry but to me anyone who speaks english as a second language is already killing it. Being an immigrant in general means you've already overcome some pretty huge challenges. This woman should be so proud of herself.

    This was a really empowering talk but I don't know that I agree about NEVER giving up. Surely sometimes you just have to admit defeat.

    I have never had the experience of moving to another country, and I never really considered how hard it would be starting on the back foot and having to not only qualify for a job, but also learn all the social expectations and nuances too. What a strong woman.

    I love what she says about being honest with yourself and not burying your failure stories. That stuff absolutely helps shape the narrative of who we are and I hate that we've been conditioned into thinking a bit of rejection is the worst thing in the world.

    It might be possible to push through and beyond failure to a certain point, but after a while it becomes disheartening and it wears you down.
