- A contestant on 'The Price is Right' makes history! On Friday's episode, Patrice Masse placed a bid that came within just one dollar of the actual showcase total, winning him the double showcase. Host Drew Carey says it was 'the best showcase bid in the history of the show.' Patrice earned a grand total of $83,068 in prizes, which is the highest double showcase win of the season.

I don’t think people realize how insane this is. The chances of this happening is so small, you probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than being off by 1$ in the showcase. Truly incredible
The only thing more insane is when a contestant got the price exactly right on a showcase in 2008.
@@busterbudunfortunately that is tainted since it was proven that there was cheating involved in that
@@Fearmemaybe15 Please provide documentation citing reliable and credible sources as to how it was "proven." From what I've read, cheating was suspected, but never "proven."

@@csufusc.4081 True, and studying prices is not cheating as some have stated.
Quite an eventful day in game shows! Pat Sajak’s final “Wheel of Fortune” and a double showcase win on “The Price Is Right” with a difference of only $1!
Got the news that Jorge Ramos the band show is done because he is retiring. What a shocking day this was.
@@rplayer77, who is he, and what show is that, again?
Makes me wonder if CBS intentionally scheduled this particular episode to air on the same day as Sajak's last Wheel to take away some of his fanfare.
@@paxhumana2015 Some Uruguayan dude who did a soccer talk show.
Tying for 2nd lowest difference in Showcase in March 1980, when the contestant bid $6,500, and also was a buck off and swept the showcases.
I haven't checked out Price is Right in years but Drew adding the mental health thing to the regular outro was a lovely surprise. Good on you Mr. Carey. And if I were this man, I'd have bought some lottery tickets after this show
This was no doubt a HISTORIC moment! 🤯
I agree...I feel like this will be something people will talk about decades from now when looking back over the course of Drew's hosting, and probably even the show as a whole. Kind of like how now there are moments from Bob Barker's run from the 90s, 80s, etc. etc.
How when one guy guessed 23,743, and it turned to be 23,743
@@justrelax1539 There's controversy about that exact bid from 2008 as there's a documentary regarding the moment called "Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much"
Drew was genuinely more in shock about this $1 difference than the exacta
“a historic,” not “an historic”
Remember March 1980? A contestant bid $6,500 when the showcase retailed for $6,501. That was the record then. This, tied for second now.
Screw Terry.. THIS GUY, Patrice, his $1 difference should be the official Record of the Showcase! Just incredible!!
2003 some guy guessed it 100% correctly it's on TH-cam
Nah blame Ted Slauson instead, he's helped Terry and tried to help others perfectly wins the showcases
Terry cheated.

I KNOW!!!
He was Canadian too. Such a milestone that hits close to home. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
1:18 - “With no help from anyone in the audience…” as opposed to the time Terry bid a showcase exactly right after a super-fan named Ted knew the price to the dollar.
It caused a tape stop-down and upset Drew, because he thought the show was compromised and his career flashed before his eyes. His reaction to this “Historic Moment” was quite subdued and bemused as a result.
Clearly Carey is still not entirely over how hurt he felt from that, and I understand him proclaiming this the true “best bid ever”! I love his reaction here - nice touch giving Patrice the card.
Well I'm glad that Ted Slauson wasn't getting involved to this, cause Slauson also helped Terry to perfectly bid the showcase back then but Terry didn't credit Slauson for his help
Not the first time a CBS game show had its producers thinking that either. We ALL remember the legendary Michael Larson who studied the Press Your Luck patterns to make sure he always landed on the two spots that never had a Whammy and always awarded an additional spin, one of which had the top cash prize that was on the board, winning him north of 100k bucks (and Peter didn't even know of Michael's technique until years later). The Terry situation was similar to the way Michael Larson studied PYL back in the day.
This $1 difference bid would be like winning a million on the current PYL show's front game with the board patterns being completely randomized.
@@GeekGameCulture Happy 40 year (+3 day) anniversary of that legendary day! Not infamous except for CBS’ sour grapes and that salty GSN documentary, exactly.
BS.. I love this show but I saw the episode where he was exactly right, and this one dollar
Both were dumb luck
Giving him the card was a “nice touch” compared to what he usually does (throwing it on the floor for some hapless PA to no doubt pick up later). I’m also glad that he has calmed down and doesn’t scream at contestants when there’s a DSW like he used to. He’d be pointing at them and screaming “DOUBLE SHOWCASE WINNER! DOUBLE SHOWCASE WINNER!” I don’t care how exciting it is-if someone puts his finger in my face I’ll bite it off. RUDE
This was the best thing to watch in real time! Congrats to him❤
THE SURPRISING THING IS, PATRICE GOT TO KEEP THE WINNING PRICE CARD FROM DREW.

that was the BEST moment of the year. who says anything is possible but a surprise for a miracle.
Look at that, at the Barker era, we've had a couple contestants gone "over" by $1 from their retail prices of their showcases 1974 and 2004, and now one contestant went underbid by $1 and won both showcases, that's very incredible!
There was a March 5, 1980 clip where a contestant missed the showcase by $1. That episode isn't aired.
@@iPlayDealOrNoDealI think you meant to say “that episode isn’t in circulation”. That’s because it was a fur episode, hence why it didn’t air on GSN.
@@angrybirdsfan2003 , let me guess, PETArds have a problem with that, hmm? Okay, then maybe we can be like Buffalo Bill from the Hannibal trilogy in response to the hypocritical little whiners?
And there were a few who actually had a perfect bid during Barker's era of hosting. Guess many are too young to remember those times lol
Yeah, but imagine if the actual price was $39,499.
In November 2004, an overbid by $1 did happen, unfortunately. She bid $12,000 (which was reasonable)… but the price was $11,999. 😔
I thought same thing. When does a price ever end with an 01?
@@sanfranman4919 even more, have there ever been a pair of showcases that BOTH end in 01. That would seem to be a once in 10,000 occurrence. Kinda seems like producers were opening the door to opportunity and hoping someone stumbled into it....
@@sanfranman4919 who knows?
That's 2 bucks off!
0:52 - You could tell the poor guy was half-expecting Drew to say he just barely overbid instead lol
But it did not

But he did not said that
It's the Showcase. Showdown is the wheel
I just don't understand why people still confuse the two.
@@GamingDelightme either!
Guess ET didn’t do their homework. There was a contestant back in 2008 that got the price exactly right, and won. That was the Greatest Bid in TPIR History.
That was *ABSOLUTELY* cheating and there's no way you can perfectly bid just because that you have limited knowledge of item prices
Ted Slauson is the one who helped Terry to perfectly bid the showcase, cause Slauson is a math teacher and he's good at memorizing the item prices over the course of this show
@@hieuquocnguyen7645 How is that cheating?
Using the audience on the price is right is fair game. It was lack of production in keeping varied amount of products in that did it.

“Best guess in the show’s history.”
Terry: Am I a joke to you?!
It was the second closest bid and it was tied with the March 5, 1980’s episode of The Price Is Right.
Forget the perfect showcase bid, this one is definitely in The Price Is Right books right here and to end the week off with this was the cherry on top of the cake.
He’s from Edmonton, Canada. 💪🥳
In the Showcase round, if the bid of your Showcase is within $250 of its actual price, you win BOTH Showcases. During the show's early seasons (when the late Bob Barker was hosting), the bid of your Showcase had to be within $100 of its actual price.
That $100 part was only until either 1995 or 1997!
Actually, you had to be LESS than $100 away, when that rule was first introduced, until 1998.
Absolutely amazing! And besides that, I haven't seen Drew Carey in a very long time. I must say, he looks fabulous! 😉👍
0:49 Patrice has probably won.

1:01 You could tell he won already!
One of golden rules in The Price Of Right history: Never underestimate the power of the dollar. And the power of the dollar was certainly strong in this guy.
I guess Drew is still THAT mad that Theodore figured out the prices of everything on the show and told a contestant what to bid? Isn't that what the show has pretty much always encouraged? Perfect bid is still better than 1 dollar off in my math class.
You cannot tell me this happened coincidentally on National DONUT Day.

Wow, just AMAZING!!!
It's a great bid, but having such an even number plus ONE increased the chances of this happening ten-fold.
In 2008, a contestant named Terry Kneiss won the double showcase by making a PERFECT BID of $23,743 dollars.
Now THAT'S incredible!
some other guy and wife studies TPIR and had all the stuff memorized for how much it would cost. He went on to win TPIR exactly on the dollar. Drew was shocked. Now I do applaud today's winner, he was not 'the best in showcase bid in the history of the show'.
Ted Slauson is his name.
The last $1 Double Showcase win was on 5 March 1980.
You calling it the last one makes me wonder if any others have happened before the date that you give here. God bless you always!!! Holly in east TN
That's unbelievable! 😮😮
Of course, people have already forgotten that Terry Kniess hit it exactly on the nose back in 2008, with Drew Carey so convinced he cheated that there's utterly no enthusiasm or emotion in his voice at all while announcing it.
Despite the rumors he cheated or had help, though, it's never proven. As far as everyone knows, Kniess picked up on that TPIR reused prizes, memorized their cost, and essentially gamed the game. It also forced TPIR to cycle prizes much more frequently to prevent a repeat of it.
For those not in the know, look it up. It's an interesting tale.
Love it !! So so happy for them !!😅
He's off by a dollar. No way!😮😮😮😮
Actually there was a male contestant who bid $23,743 and got tge exact bid years ago, but this bid is epic nonetheless. A double showcase winner
Drew hated that. He explicitly pointed out “absolutely no help from anyone in the audience” since the guy from the $23743 bid got help from a super fan in the audience who knew every price to the dollar

Be-a-u-ti-ful! What a historic moment! Bob Barker reminding you, help control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered-- goodbye, everybody!"
Wish I could’ve seen this-was at work today.
That was AWESOME! OMG!!
That’s beyond phenomenal
This ranks up there with the Canadian getting the total exactly right in Check Out!
I just watched this episode this morning
The craziest thing about this (for ME, anyway)? OK, I almost never watch TPIR. I don't even remember which year it was (and not even sure if I'd get the correct DECADE right by guessing the 2010's) that I last tuned in to watch it at home. I am simply never, ever, ever up that early. But, NO: on that day, 06 June 2024, I turned the TV on at 10:51AM (concurrent with the East Coast showing, but an hour earlier here because we're on Central Time)...and the Final Showcase was JUST STARTING. I SAW THE WHOLE THING HAPPEN.
What would make me turn on the TV right at THAT minute, and on this one particular day? There's no conventional reason for it. In my mind it isn't even coincidence, but something else. So I've randomly had TPIR on at home only once or twice since maybe 2010, and I just happen to catch perhaps the most amazing few minutes in the history of the show!
I take this as a "sign of affirmation" from somewhere we don't fully understand, maybe that I'm "doing the right things" in life and to keep it up...I said this isn't a coincidence because this isn't an isolated incident! I seem to have two or three of these illogical (and almost always wonderful) things happen to me per year.
There was a nine-day period in 2016 that six or seven of these bizarre things happened, one after the other, and I assumed it was telling me that my one-decade-long agonizing on where to move would soon be resolved. Indeed, less than nine weeks later, moving to Chicago was decisive (made during a refreshing two-mile walk in very thick fog and 37 degrees F) and it took me only six more weeks to close on the place. It's one of the best decisions I ever made.
That was just amazing. I have never seen someone by one dollar.🎉❤🎉🎉
Great bidding!
That’s not true, someone did get a perfect bid once about 15 years ago (albeit with some help, not cheating though)
This is the closest one in TPIR history that was just a complete guess.
Closest guess that was not the exact bid
That is incredible!
Well there was that other incident but we don't talk about that .
But there IS the urban legend of a perfect bid on the Dennis James version....
Please note it's the best showcase bid in DREW'S OPINION. There's been 2 perfect bids in showcase history, one being as Drew as host.
