    Wheeling was always a rule that was interesting..

    7:20 All you'd have to do is turn the movement tray 90° in one direction and then turn the models back 90° in the other direction. Not something you'd want to do all the time, but it's really no hassle once per game for most units, maybe three times in some circumstances, and takes less time overall than using no movement tray.

      Right, I that could work.

    For marching columns ,Maybe just turn your unit in their movement tray 90 degrees and make the (now) front rank face the intended movement direction? This to me seems much more like classic historical gaming, btw

    • @TooMiniModels
      @TooMiniModels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That could work, little sideways shuffle.

    I think that the look of the models in the marching column would be cool. I like spectacle of the look of it. For me it worth moving a few models for this visual aspect. To see long columns skaven tearing across the board, like legions trying to out maneuver, is cool. You can tell the are more leaning into the historical aspects as this stuff is from historical games.

      Do you really think it's a spectacle to see your opponent spend 7 minutes re-arranging his 12 models into a column? Only to change it back shortly after? Do you really think 12 models in a column is a spectacle? So many of these things were removed from the game for good reason by competent games designers.
      Do you know what GW could have done? Told you to simply remember " it marched in "column" " and give you a token to put next to it reminding you of any debuffs.

      It seems easier than moving tons of models in AOS. But I have never played that game so I don't know.

      @OmnisKorrecta 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I know it is a spectacle because I used to play a guy who had his skaven in a 40 man block 5 across 8 ranks, with flamethrowers along the side. It didn't take long to move either and no we didn't use trays. We were just quick about it!

    An adjustable movement tray would be a great addition. Make it clear/translucent.

    The switching to marching column will be super rare it takes to much movement to change and is a huge risk. I believe you will see it extremely rarely. In a 15 man, 5 wide unit you only need to move 3 models to the back temporarily, not really a big deal.

    the march is a double edge sword you can move very fast but if you get stuck in combat it will screw you over, i think its there mainly to speed the game up a little , and the march rule im pretty sure was there before and certain races are not aloud to march, pretty much undead and some creatures with stupidity

    • @TooMiniModels
      @TooMiniModels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right, I think the triple speed march is new.

      @@TooMiniModels The tripple speed march is dumb. It's useless. at least form the preview. Starting deployed in march then moveing up the board and reforming in the second trun will get you less up the board then just marching 2x in normal formation. Now if you march two times and then reform you will equal 3 normal marches. And if you march 4 times at 3x then you will exceed it. But that will take you out of combat formation for 4 turns and denny you a charge on the 5th. So one round of action for that unit. Sounds like a great way to lose a game.

    @PM-xc8oo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I really don't understand why you can't just "abstract" out the marching formation using a token rather than having to fidget around moving your models. Really though what will kill it will be if they insist on baking in the 8th edition unit size inflation that made the game almost unplayable in favor of selling more models. If the game can be played with the more moderate sized 6th ed era units (or even 4th/5th small units) it will be a lot more manageable.

    WHy the hell would movement trays be dead?

    • @TooMiniModels
      @TooMiniModels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because new rules say one needs to move regiment formation to get benefit of march order.

  • @erics.865
    @erics.865 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    You hit the nail on the head…why move around models when they could have easily said take a reform action and plop down a “march” token by the unit. It gets X benefits and X penalties. Sometimes more complicated doesn’t equate to a better game. The movement phase was always miserable with trays getting in the way, models falling all over the place, arguments about where a model is after it had been bumped serval times since it actually moved. Wish they had been laser focused on cleaning up movement as opposed to adding more stuff to it.

      totally agree, they are looking into the past for these rules inspirations instead of modern approaches to rules systems that play better

      @scheikundeiscool4086 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@envaya9838 I think the entire point is to make the game nostalgic again for that area. Also there is a form of spectical to these kind of games. While adding or substracting ranks from a unit to make it combat or marching is pointless from a game standpoint. It is a form of spectical for the game. It makes it readable from a glance just by the look of the game and it also is correct from a real world persective where ppl fought in lines and marched in colums. The game is spused to simulate pike and shot warfare. And that was pretty clunky. That makes no freaking sense as a game obviusly because why would you want a clunky game. But it does make sense as a spectical.

  • @mogwaiman6048

    It was always an antiquated ruleset compared to 40k. It really is better off as a specialist game imo.

      @britainbetterthanyou 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Specialist game that won't sell and will not pull its weight in terms of potential profit + will falsely "prove" the AoS faction at GW were right (they were not).
      Could easily have been re-written as a modern, intelligent game instead of just 9th edition with all the things that made the game crash and burn in the first place.

    • @mogwaiman6048
      @mogwaiman6048 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@britainbetterthanyou it would still need to be a rank and file game to justify it's purpose. It was never going to replace AoS.

    Complexity for the sake of complexity and offering the illusion of tactics and strategy.
    You can have a game that simulates realistic battle tactics whilst staying elegant or "streamlined". This movement article is NOT something that simulates realistic warfare. If this was Epic Warhammer Fantasy/Warmaster then sure. But 5 cavalry or 10-20 men are not going to have any issue moving around freely. And that's the problem. Demanding I fiddle around trying to measure my wheels or re-forming units of 10 or 20 models so I can get 4'' more movement or an extra 2 attacks is bizarre.
    This is exactly the kind of rules that made up the 60-100 page Warhammer rulebook that turned so many people away and destroyed the game. To the people eager to reply "this game isn't for you" - then WHO is it for? A tiny minority who enjoyed what most didn't? If this game is going to be a success i.e. something that GW will proceed to make NEW plastic kits for, it has to be enjoyed, played and bought my a large amount of people: appealing to neckbeards is doomed to fail, but maybe that was the plan: fleece them with a made-to-order run then kill the game forever.
    "they can't please everybody" = so they chose to please almost nobody.

      Hey this is the kind of clunky shit i am into. I play battletech to and i mean the real thing not new fangled streamlined alpha strike stuff. No the oldschool one whit 30+ years worth of rules that needs you to be at least a passable acountant to even be able to play. Of course this shit is niece as fuck and of course it would sell better as a game if it was made to be streamlined and fast to play. But gw already sells warcry for that. This is niece as fuck intentonal. Like HH this is aimed ad those old geezers that wna thier niece so badly that they are willing to pay gw's outrages prices times 1,5. (at least) iIt is not made to plece everybody or annybody. It is made to extract money from a small group of ppl whit way to much of it.
