    I don't recommend using cages with mesh at the bottom or a metal wiring as it hurts the Degus toes and feet.

    Your degu’s should NOT be in a cage with wire floor!! It really hurts them and can cause then bumble foot

    Aren't Degus meant to live in cages that don't have wired or meshed floors? I read somewhere before that it can damage their feet? Sorry if I'm wrong, it's just what I heard.

    I've read that degus aren't supposed to live in a cage that has wire as the floor. It's supposed to cause some kind of problem with their feet.

    Did you know that Petco price matches their website? I've gotten as much as 55% off the in store price! Just picked up a cage setup and 2 Degus yesterday and I love them! Way better than a hamster! And in regards to the cage's mesh flooring you can lay cardboard down over the mesh to make a solid floor I'll be doing that with my aquarium topper and ramps sometime today

    My partner & I are looking into getting these, we have a large Aquarium that we have kept Gerbils in, I have put in other levels/platforms they can jump onto giving them more space to run around, much better than metal cages & not as noisy. So far here in the U.K, looking in Pet shops we've only seen Grey Dagus (not looked that much yet) which has put me off a little as I like varied colours. What Colours do they come in?

    • @piggylicous1
      @piggylicous1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they come in this brown color and the gray(otherwise known as albino) so only 2 colors

    • @piggylicous1
      @piggylicous1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what you really want is a sweet tempered pair or more of degus and color isn't too important :) I think they are all beautiful

      piggylicous1 Thnx. I like varied coloured pets although I do love these, my partner & I are thinking about getting Rats.

      yeah, mine are all brown coloured, I live in Luton, UK. but one of them has white patches all over him, so you can get some variance. he's also the bravest of the bunch lol but the other 2 look pretty much the same like this girls Degu's in this video.

      @alanahebert6429 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They come in a variety of colours. I had agouti coloured degus which are just the regular degus. Then there are sand degus which are tan coloured, blue degus which are the grey ones then patched degus which can be agouti and sand and any other colours like black with white patches which of course makes them patched degus.

    where do they wee and poo and how do you clean this off a wire cage?

  • @piggylicous1
    @piggylicous1  11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    they shouldn't have complete wire floors it should have a solid base with bedding like mine has at the bottom i also put soft items like tiny cushions on the floor in some areas but degus tend 2rearange so things don't always stay put I think you are referring to Bumble foot it is really rare lots of people have their degus in wire cages its fine just check there feet daily for any cuts cause combos of open cuts and wire cages is what causes Bumble foot not wire. I hope this cleared things up :)

    They piss and shit everywhere... All of mine have anyway. Still lovable little critters.

    I got 3 of these little guys recently, they are already trained lol, mine all walk onto my hand and let me take my hand to me already n I've only had them a week. but I have multiple rats in the past since I was very young, but they are a lot more inquisitive than rats.. curious little fuckers just want to run everywhere. my room is their cage right now and they live in a little fishtank that I close at night and leave open in the day time, currently looking for a large cage for cheap as I'm not the richest.
    I love them already and in just a week they are all as tame as my tamest rat I ever owned was after at least a month. lol and she was a blind albino.
    I recommend these for someone with a lot of space for them to run around and daylight hours to spend with them as they mine just sleep in the night.
    in the daytime when they are running around they'll be in opposite corners of my room just chatting to eachother.. and even then they sound like morning birds, with a beautiful sounding chirp.
    just beware they poop a lot, but luckily it's dry as all they eat is Hay and Degu pellets. :)

      piggylicous1 oh I didn't update, I've gotten a large 1.5 meter vertical cage for them (they still come out a lot) and they run in and out as they please
      I wouldn't say it's the best for them really as it's taller than it is wide, but there's a lot of cubic space in the cage and they can get away from each other, for if they are getting annoyed with each other.

    i have a degu and one of my degus trys to eat my finger.why dose he do that?

    • @Cherry6415AJ
      @Cherry6415AJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of animals bite fingers, hamsters, gerbils, etc. The possibility of that is just that they are timid or frightened

    • @piggylicous1
      @piggylicous1  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +saulius astrauskas sometimes they just do it, they test you to figure out what your are. that or maybe you smell good like a food maybe wash your hands before you interact with your degu :)

    • @davidharrison7853
      @davidharrison7853 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My partner & I have kept Gerbils for years, they tend to bite or nibble if they think your fingers are food so wash your hands before ( & after) handling Rodents to get any smell off them, also, if you surprise them then they may bite out of fright.

    what cage would you recommend for 3 degus

    • @foot4106
      @foot4106 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are different genders don’t keep them in the same cage. If they are all male don’t put them in the same cage or they may fight. If they are all female I recommend a cage with no mush or wire flooring, instead get a flat surface. Put them in a cage maybe a little bit smaller than your height and make sure the wires on the walls are small enough holes to where the degu can’t get any body parts stuck in the wire.

    most of my degus pee and poo in the bedding but when they pee on the wire mesh I take a tooth brush (just for the degus) and scrub the mesh with it cleaning it with peroxide ;)

    No and my degus are fine in there cages its soft mesh and not like chicken wire or other harmful metal wires I've never had an issue with any of their feet because its not a completely wired cage. their completely fine. the cage is a rat manor

    This video just kinda convinced me not to buy a Degu. It sounds like they cost too much. There so cute tho. I am still 50 50 between buying them.

    • @bockwitmeBM
      @bockwitmeBM 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're mostly just expensive when you first buy them(cage, toys etc) after that they're pretty cheap, I pay maybe 40-50 bucks over 3 months on them and as for toys, things as simple as toilet paper, cardboard and rope is enough to entertain them for a long time. They're very rewarding, as when they finally feel attached to you, they greet you and get very happy to see you. I don't regret buying my degus, very smart, very cute.
