    What is the point of bringing on a “rules expert“ if he’s always going to agree with his referees buddies on the ice? He literally said he would’ve agreed with a five minute major but he also agrees with a two minute minor. Well, which is it? What a joke.

    idk how literally no one seems to realize that the whistle was blown AFTER the hit. Yes, it was interference because he hit a player who was nowhere near the puck, but that's it. That's why it's a 2 minute penalty. McCann go hurt because he knew the puck went out of play after he shot it and wasn't expecting a hit. No one else knew where the puck was, hence Makar hitting him thinking McCann was going to the corner for the puck. There was literally no intent behind the hit other than that, so it's nothing more that a 2 minute interference call, you don't make the penalty larger just because a guy got injured, this is hockey sometimes players just get hurt.

    Ok I would first want to say I hope McCann the best during his recovery. Second I am not a fan of either team just really enjoy watching hockey. My poor team didn't make the playoffs. So I wanted to do a break down of the play from a non emotional side.
    Last touch of the puck by McCann is at 0:05 keep in mind as the shooter he would be watching for the trajectory of the puck where as the defender is not as focused on this.
    Makar makes first contact at 0:06 finishing the hit at 0:07
    Whistle does not sound until 0:08
    Look I think this was a split second decision in a highstakes game. McCann believed the puck was going out of play therefore was not expecting to get hit. Makar may have thought for second the puck was going out but when the whistle did not sound he finished his check. Since McCann was not prepared for contact a hit that normally would amount to nothing end in a devasting result. Truly I feel for both players. McCann has been great for his team. Makar is not a dirty player and made a play resulting in a injury.
    As too the officiating I think if McCann had not been injured no call would have been made. But due to the severity of the injury and the fact that MaCann was not prepared for the check since the puck was going out of play felt a call had to be made. Honestly I don't disagree with the reasoning but feel if McCann had not been injured there would have been no call.

      Turgeon separated his shoulder because the light push knocked him off-balance and sent him shoulder-first into the boards. I'm going to give my opinion as an Avs Fan. Interference was the right call. Should more have been called? Possibly. Makar is a lot stronger than many realize. He's delivered hard powerful and clean hits before. This play looked like the puck went high and maybe would bounce back down and maybe that's why Makar played the body on McCann. He has hit players unexpecting in his own zone. This one, clean or not, Makar knew what he was doing. I do think the hit was late, but there wasn't any boarding (at least head first), hit to the head, instigating, or battle between the two. It's shoulder to shoulder, but it was so close to the boards. it just happens and you cant predict it. I think the reason it stunned McCann is because he wasn't expecting it. the hit also twisted his waist and he landed awkwardly. He also didn't break his fall cause he was too surprised to react. So that's my take. Penalty for Makar? Absolutely. A double minor? idk maybe? Major? Probably not.

      Logic has no room here, it seems. There are two rules driven into kids when they start playing: Play to the whistle and stay alert, don't get hurt. McCann broke both of these rules. If there had been a whistle, it's a dirty hit. Barring that, it draws a minor for looking bad, but no rules were broken. No one at ice level knew where the puck was or a brawl would have broken out after that hit.

    • @DanielSon69
      @DanielSon69 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makar knew where the puck wasn’t, that’s for sure. It wasn’t anywhere near McCann . He knew this because he saw the direction of the puck, he followed McCann for 3 + seconds after the shot and clearly didn’t see the puck in or close to McCann’s possession. He also didn’t see McCann looking around or in any direction that was a reasonable location for the puck. He also hesitated initially on making the hit, before then deciding to ‘go for it’. Indicating to me that he had a pretty good sense that the hit he was about to make was wrong.
      Any other take is delusional in my opinion. Hopefully Makar’s stupid decision doesn’t affect McCann long term, because that’s what’s important here. Who cares about the game, the series, the next series…this is about the health and welfare of a young man in the prime of his life. Hockey is just a game.

McCann took the shot and was without possession of the puck for 3 seconds and skated from the slot into the corner, all without the puck. You can't read anyone's mind anymore than the league can read Makar's mind. Those plays happen dozens of times a game where the puck goes into the corner, or behind the goal, and players light up a guy after the puck is gone. Makar never appeared to notice the puck went out of play, and assuming he KNEW that is ignorant. Had the ref blew the whistle when the puck hit the netting... which was BEFORE McCann turned towards the far corner, Makar would have had time to stop, slow, down or adjust his hit. But, the ref phucked up and took WAY TOO LONG to blow the play dead. That's NOT Makar's job, but he gets punished and of course McCann gets punished for that referee being crap.

    How stupid was that from Makar...some people say a clean hit? How can it possibly be clean when it was that late, a late hit like that is not expected, hence MacCann was vulnerable at that point, when you don't prep your body for the hit that's the result. Don't the NHL want to eliminate (lower) situations where players gets hit in vulnerable positions? They should at least have a look at it for a possible suspension... but it's Makar lol

      @@TheStupidSeal10-3-07 Yeah couple of comments that says that too... since when is the whistle not blowing the deciding factor in an illegal action on the ice? If Maccan had the puck that would of been one hell of a hit, but he did not, and it was unfortunatly obvious as it was like 2-3seconds pass the play and like I said if you don't prepare your body for a hit (like that situation because you dont have the puck anymore and you know the play is dead cause you've both seen the puck go out of the ice) it makes you really vulnerable and probably triple the chance of injuries, and it's just not acceptable, superstar or not... You said it yourself, he knew what he was doing, just by that definition of the play it makes it so much dirtier
