@@percycat213 i agree with that as well, but I also believe depending on which sort of Amish you are, while they have their form of mental help within, it’s relegated to their community, which often means the entire family has to be punished to some extent.
@@dexterjustice8749 It isn't an excuse. My point is that the Amish don't believe in any modern mental health treatment. This dude had schizophrenia that slowly got more and more out of control. If he had gotten treatment, Edward very likely wouldn't have killed Katie.

If one of your close ones clearly suffers a psychotic episode, bring them to a hospital immediately and if they don't want to go, call an ambulance. No matter how heartbreaking it is for you, no matter if they act aggressively or not, remember that they aren't truly themselves in that moment and they need professional help. Speaking from experience.
Speaking from experience, unless they are actively self-harming, or have actually caused an injury WITH A WEAPON, the ambulance can do nothing, nor can the police. After they cause someone an injury, it takes a court order to put them in a hospital. I've got a permanent disability to prove it.... after I called the police/an ambulance, the person was "set off" as I was an enemy, and attacked. It took several hours until the police could do anything, initially put in a jail, then to a mental hospital.
Just keep in mind that if you say the person is acting irrationally the police will come along with the ambulance, shouting loud commands with their guns in hand, and will very possibly kill the person if they do not immediately comply. Because they "feel threatened". I don't know what the answer to this problem is, just saying it's a very real possibility.
@@barryervin8536 I can't speak for other countries, because I myself live in Finland. Here if a person doesn't want to go with the medical staff, they will also send police officers, but you will definitely not get shot unless you're openly threatening them or someone else with a weapon and even then there's an extremely low possibility of that happening. It's a really difficult decision to get one of your close ones into a mental care facility, but it can prevent bad things from happening. Not every person suffering with psychosis is aggressive, but even if they aren't, their reality is already so terrifying because of what they hear, see or believe to be true. That's why they need medical attention. But I do agree that the system needs to change. The system and general public perception of mental illnesses. Because often those people aren't being treated with respect and understanding. And it makes me so angry.
@@rudra62 that's awful. As I said in my other comment, I can only speak for the country I live in - Finland. Here if someone is clearly suffering from psychosis, for example talking to themselves or running around and is agitated, they will be admitted to a psych ward and you don't need a court order. I know it might be different in orher countries... the system is broken and needs fixing in many places, but it doesn't change the fact that a person suffering from psychosis needs professional help and proper medication. I just wish it was easier and safer for people to get the help they need in some countries :(
@@anomalyahblack1515 Yes. It's broken. :( If the person is put into the psych ward, in all likelihood they'll be given psych meds, and little to no effort put into finding a physical cause for the problem. In the case of the person mentioned above, which you described their actions perfectly, after more than a week of taking numerous psych meds, they did enough medical testing to find that the problem was a life-limiting (but treatable through medication) hormonal failure.
Not to mentioned that he genuinely felt remorseful for killing his wife and putting his kids through all of that. I not trying to justify what he did but he doesn’t strike me as someone with evil intent, like so many other killers.
How horrific that he would beg for help and never really got the care he needed. So much suffering and an absolutely horrific death could have been prevented. Mental health is just as important as any other health aspect.
Regarding his actions I can't stop thinking about his kids, esp. Going through this at 6 years old, my heart breaks. He had mental illness but he still scared these children for life.
I’ve heard mental illness is sometimes referred to as a “Silent Hell”. Poor man got mentally dragged into his own personal hell and took an innocent woman down with him. If only he got the help he so desperately needed...

I know Amish people, one family specifically. Their son is very much on the autism spectrum like me, but unlike me, he's only getting more shut in and more aggravated because everything he does naturally, he's beaten or shunned for because it's seen as "abnormal and against God." Things like rocking as a stim, picking his skin, insisting on routines and so on. I'm close with this family and I tried to explain what the problem is, but they told me that whatever happens is god's will. Well, this kid is turning out to be suicidal and has tried twice now. I hope they remember their words. 😟
Mental illness in general and schizophrenia in particular isn’t “easily treated”. It’s a bunch of tests and then try a medicine and then adjust the dose and then more tests. Then wean off and try a different medication because the side effects of that one are worse than the schizophrenia. Rinse and repeat until you finally find a combination of meds that keep you steady and you only feel like a semi-zombie. Things run smooth for a couple of years and then you go off the meds because you are feeling better now and are tired of being a foggy semi-zombie. Of course you crash back into schizophrenia. Rinse and repeat. This man deserved to receive modern treatment but even with modern treatment they may have wound up in this exact situation. Schizophrenia is a lifelong battle.
@@0oshyg0oshy86 If that’s your experience that’s great, however all of the people I have known who have been on major medications (for schizophrenia, psychosis, etc) have struggled with side effects for years and often have difficulty staying on the medication because of it. Sometimes it gets to the point where they are prescribed other medications to deal with the side effects of their current medications which can also have side effects. The battle is worthwhile but treating a serious mental health condition isn’t like treating strep throat, it takes a lot of trial and error and there is a lot of individual variation in response to the medications.

Now I can’t say any of this with certainty as I wasn’t there, nor did I know any of these people, but- with _solely_ these facts presented before me, I personally believe Gingerich is worthy of forgiveness. It appears to me like he really did just have a mental break- it seems he was a generally good man before the onset of his psychosis, and once it hit he completely lost touch with reality. Contrary to the harmful stereotype, most paranoid schizophrenics do not kill, but it happens. He showed the signs and nothing effective was done about it. And clearly, once he entered a more lucid state of mind, his murder haunted him to death. Obviously, his wife’s death was tragic. She didn’t deserve that, not at all. It makes me sick to think about her killing. But since he had no history of being abusive prior to her sudden murder, I feel he truly was just acting in delusion. I hope their kids are well.
@lenamonroe4130 uh. No. The "renowned healer" or whatever TOLD THEM to take him to a modern hospital out of fear of suicide. Also most chiropractors are semi-useless hacks, anyway.
He’d also expressed a considerable amount of guilt for murdering his wife and causing so much pain to his kids. It was the cause for his depression and the reason why he decided to end his own life. The whole thing is truly tragic and I feel bad really for him because I don’t think he’s an evil person with malicious intentions. He just needed proper mental help.

Probably way less stressful, but more inconvenient. Likely, it's exactly how you picture it, if you already have the experience from a modern day mental facility. I imagine the doctors wouldn't be Amish, and staff wouldn't be, but they would be just as devoted and compassionate. I would hope they are more passionate about their jobs than normal doctors and staff, considering is a very specific job.
They’re large wooden buildings full of molasses. In the morning, you get out of your molasses bed (much like a waterbed, but filled with molasses). Then you bathe in a shower or bath of molasses. You get your morning molasses meds. Breakfast consists of molasses on a warm bed of molasses. Then you go and take a nice swim in the Olympic-size molasses pool. More molasses meds. You don’t watch TV, as it’s a modern convenience, but you do get to listen to the radio shows: The Molasses Ranger, followed by Little Orphan Molasses! For lunch, patients enjoy a nice healthy molasses stew with chunks of molasses chew candy in it. Then some light reading from the facility’s wide selection of books: Molasses: A History The Molasses Particle and Stephanie Meyer’s full collection of books. No one reads those, though. Then for dinner it’s molasses, cooked medium rare, with a side of mashed molasses and steamed molasses. With a dessert of a nice bowl of ice molasses! All in all? Lot of molasses.
1. Dude needed help and what he got wasn't enough. Mix of the community and the time this all went down. The fire and brimstone way of converting someone only causes more harm than good.
Couldn't agree more on the ridiculous behaviour of evangelists🙄 As for the meds, I think the reason they dont make as many people so dopey now is because most people will be on 3rd or 4th gen meds. The old school heavy duty ones are a bit of a nightmare. The newer ones can make people sleepy but it's not nearly as drastic as back then. I really feel bad for him too. I don’t want to justify or downplay the severity of his crimes but he clearly needed mental help and I truly believe if he’d got the help that he needed, he would have never murdered his wife. It’s tragic to know that he ended his own life because of the guilt he felt for killing his wife and the pain he caused to his children. I don’t think he’s an evil person.
Just an fyi for people watching this. Schizophrenic people are more often the victim of crimes than the ones committing the crime. This is coming from a person with paranoid schizophrenia that is kind of tired of people assuming the worst of us. Not saying that Rob does this, it's just a comment.

I’m From Meadville, and my local generation grew up with this story. Lots of misinformation had been passed from kid to kid, to embellish the story. My psychology professor had to determine if Edwards brother was fit for trial years later. Oh yea, he molested his nieces and nephews after they went through what they did. He was the real monster.
I don't think you have to designate one as the "real monster", it isn't a competition.
Oh my god those poor kids.
I lived in Linesville when this happened.
@@vangoghsseveredear It's a common thing with Amish people. That's why I think they are an especially gross community.
@@Nekoszowa They also abuse animals... They always leave their horses tied up outside of Costco and Walmart on the blacktop without any water and will beat them to death if they feel like it. Combine that with an ever-shrinking gene pool (and their penchant for thinking of genetic testing to find out if your offspring will be grossly retarded is 'the devil's work') and I hope they disappear soon.

@@TGuard00014 thats not how it works, most medications only have bad side effects for a month or twi
@@0oshyg0oshy86 If that’s your experience that’s great, however all of the people I have known who have been on major medications (for schizophrenia,
psychosis, etc) have struggled with side effects for years and often have difficulty staying on the medication because of it. Sometimes it gets to the point where they are prescribed other medications to deal with the side effects of their current medications which can also have side effects. The battle is worthwhile but treating a serious mental health condition isn’t like treating strep throat, it takes a lot of trial and error and there is a lot of individual variation in response to the medications.

with _solely_ these facts presented before me, I personally believe Gingerich is worthy of forgiveness.

Your heart and soul go into every video and it’s easy to tell. Now I myself am camera shy and could never deal with the internet trolls my mental health won’t allow it but u are a true inspiration to many especially me. You speak so eloquently ur humor is incredible your voice is intoxicating and with all that being said I just want to say welcome back and much much love from NY xoxo
I loved the way this episode was put together!! So glad you’re back!! 😄😄
You know, I deal with the almish every day and their the sweetest people I've ever met. And their so quiet too.
The sweetest people are the ones you should beware of.....they're always hiding something behind a smile !
@@SUGAR_XYLER nah. I live close to Amish country Lancaster and even worked with 2 Amish chicks. Very nice people.
I grew up in an Amish populated town.. They were okay but one did stalk my mom. And one time one of their horses ran in to my car
Lmao “they’re nice to me, so obviously they’re good people”. Dahmer & Bundy were nice to certain people too…..doesn’t mean they were decent people 😂
Hell YEEEEAAHH! So nice to hear your voice again. Like chocolate after "I'm on a diet" phase :D
Glad I'm not the only one!! I commented about Daddy Rob being back. 😆😆🤷😆😆
A doctor thought he was "treating" this guy with scalp massages and giving him molasses? Oh yeah nvm, it was a chiropractor. /s
Being serious though, wth kind of treatment is that man?
Don't forget the "toe-pulling"!
(I've no clue, what kind of treatment this is, tbh).
I needed this voice in my life
I'm honestly surprised there's even still any Amish around, considering they think toe pulling & scalp massages are a form of "medicine"...
They're not all like that. Heck, Jacob told them to take him to a modern hospital.
@@ajtroyer76 I want my toe pulled
There’s many different branches of amish, just like how there are many different branches of Christians.
Even some Amish are surprised they’re still around, there was concern over their livelihood at the turn of the century in 1900.
There are people who believe that essential oils can defeat viruses. What do you mean you're surprised?
I’ve missed you so much and been waiting impatiently to hear your voice again! So thankful you’re back! ❤️❤️❤️
Good to see ya back! Was just thinking about you yesterday, missed your soothing voice!
Soothing voice🤔
The man the myth the legend big homie Rob Gavagan so good to see you back homie can't wait to see more uploads Missed your videos so much bro
I like the new intro real after the introduction. It really gets into the meaning of Ananomy of Murder series using shots from previous videos
Your sponsorship “commercials” are always so funny. I always sit through and listen to them even if I’m not interested in the product.
This new intro with the music just hits so good.
I MISSED YOU AND YOUR CONTENT! this is my reward from the universe for finishing my last final of undergrad🥳🥳🥳
Go Hattie!
I’m up at 12 am , eyes burning due to lack of sleep , but I’m STILL going to watch whatever rob posts !
This is absolutely heartbreaking. Everyone, except for his children, failed Edward.
I think the man who spent minutes kicking his wife to death in front of their children before slicing her open and tearing out her organs, again in front of his children, is the last person to deserve pity in this story.
@@gigglestheclown3165 you just showed a perfect example of how those who don't understand mental health think about these sorts of situations. I recommend you educate yourself on paranoid schizophrenia and rewatch this.
@@gigglestheclown3165 open your mind a little yes he was guilty and wrong but thinking like that is going to let things like this happen again
@@gigglestheclown3165 This is such an childish way of thinking about real problems in society. If you cant comprehend even basic cause and effect, maybe you shouldn't put you lack of intelligence out there for us all to see.
@@gigglestheclown3165 username checks out.
I’ve said it before, it’s damn good to have you back rob
This new intro is SO good, glad to see you back at it Rob :)
Welcome back, Rob! You rule, good sir!!!
Hey Rob could you please bring back Why Would You Put That On The Internet ? TH-cam just hasn’t been the same with out you bro!! We need you!!
He has it on a different channel of his
No
@@catherinesheffield8093 he hasnt uploaded on his other channels in over a year
Love me some Rob Gavagan! He could be reciting the nutritional information on my cereal box, and I would listen... he's just got one of those voices!
PA resident here! I see Amish folks every now and then when I have doctors' visits. They always look so sad in the face, but really, I don't know enough about them to tell if they're just stoic or actually upset. I wonder if they still think about this case, maybe that's why they look so solemn.
Wow the quality of your videos has dramatically increased over the years. I'm loving it keep up the great work Rob and his team! 🙂
Rob Gavagan with the Amish representation 🔥
Ah yes, toe pulling and some molasses. Fixes everything!
Listen....it works SO well. I was prescribed this to make me taller, I was 5'2, im now 11'4! Don't knock it till you try it 😆
The production quality really has increased since I started watching in 2012
too bad his videos are now full of ads can't go 5 minutes without getting an ad plus sponsorships and patreon guys gone greedy asf
@@Shukulo maybe if TH-cam actually supported their creators he wouldn't have to
@@Luxurious_count_levi wouldn't have to have 5 midroll ads? No he does it because he wants to.
Welcome back glad you are still with us makeing videos like this cant be easy on the mind i appreciate your time thank you
I haven't seen any of your videos in ages, they just haven't been showing up in my suggested videos at all . I'm glad I found this today, I will now go back and watch the many that I've been missing out on.
I couldn't help but to sometimes I feel Amish is like a cult
It is definitely a cult, like all religions unfortunately.
@@anubis.monster Most Pagans are solitary practitioners so I'm not sure how you'd call the various religions under that umbrella a cult.
@@abitcattywampus Except for you, you get it and understand. Yea if you ever ever met any Amish families or communities it’s real clear it isn’t very cultish. The similarities are surface value at best, even then you could say the same about the Catholic Church if we went by the OPs logic. Good comment you made
I find this very offensive because I happen to be Amish we’re not a cult we’re good loving people that love to do things the old fashion way 😊
@@debbiegotyha8523 amish with a phone 😳
I remember hearing about this years ago. It’s cool you’re talking about this case Rob. Keep up the great work!
Welcome back from a McKean County, PA resident. Always interesting and sad to see local events on videos
It’s good to see you’re back Rob!
I’m both disturbed and sorrowful for Edward, and his suicide could have been avoided. His family shouldn’t have been shunned, or treated so poorly. I hope they all can have better futures and lives now that Edward is at peace.
