You are straight up the most unique guitar gear channel on YT. You take a pedestrian pedal or effect and bring the hidden oddities and foibles to the surface and expose it for everyone to exploit. I find myself binge watching your videos. I would love to see your process to uncover hidden uses with a new pedal.
thanks for the comment. also at some point I should make a dedicated video about my process for figuring out a new pedal, but in the meantime it is something i've described in the various AMAs if you want to poke around those. glad you're enjoying the vids
With the imagery, your easy-to-understand but comprehensive explanations, the tones, your channel has quickly become one of my favorites. I also really appreciate that you're not overtly selling gear like so many other channels. Can't wait to watch more!
A lot of people would say: why don't you just get an overdrive/distortion/lo-fi/etc pedal? The point is that you would use what you already have to achieve a desired sound. But more than that, it's about experimenting with what you have - don't just do the same old things. And that's why your channel is the best!
That last sound example was incredible, i could just live in that sound…also now i’m gonna be lookin into that side step..lol..came for eq knowledge but i get sidetracked which is the coolest part..i’m so glad i found your channel. No bs, full of info, the animations are oddly soothing…love em
Such an artist - each video is an album unto itself! My favorite EQ discovery is with the WMD parametric, you can barely boost the lost extreme high frequency range at a low Q after scooping out any mud or nasally mids that are clouding up a guitar, and that little lift in treble headroom is very airy instead of harsh. It can be harsh if overdone but the WMD allows a very high frequency to target and it gave me a sparkle I couldn't find anywhere else
Its more common to find on plugins I suppose but it's very useful if you want clarity, it's hard to blend in sometimes. And I meant "most extreme" not lost, in my comment but wasn't able to edit it. Cheers
One cool tip is to have the speed of the random expression input quite fast and you get that sort of switching radio stations effect you hear on songs like hunting for witches
Thank you Ivan ! I've been watching all your clips and truly appreciate the time and effort you put into these and your generosity in sharing your explorations and wisdom. The clips are also tremendously entertaining ! I always end up considering things from a new angle. That's the best ! Gratefully - John
Side Step rules! So grateful to see that beloved TWA Side Step featured again. Oscar for best supporting role long overdue… An inspiring tool to make the equipment you already have mo' betterer. Dig that one, and for slightly different uses the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Expression Ramper.
"Dammit, Donnie! Why-why you gotta get so smart on us?" Thanks for sharing your knowledge. This is a great page for beginners and experts alike. I watch your videos like five times in a row. Not because I don't get it right away. But you have a great way of explaining things.
I like boss pedals but the eq is not my first choice... get something with true bypass instead. What works aswell as a semi eq pedal is some bass preamps like an ampeg ... they can boost and cut ... of cause there is not so many options in frequenzes as on an eq but it can work.
@@CyberattackWorld I can't find any good tutorials on routing this demonfx filtration II g-string pedal I got. But you're the best at pedal videos man thanks I love your content
Nice vid. I nearly pulled the trigger on a Source Audio EQ2 but didn’t bc I prefer the analog sliders. I’m holding out for a good deal on an XTS or Analogman modded GE-7
anyone who wants a great parametric eq and a fun pedal build kit, i built the one byoc offers and i looove it and you can do most these things (sorry no expression tho) love ya
thanks for the comment. it's true that I never play straight blues, but the one other time I did was pro-tip #2 in this video: th-cam.com/video/ZzQ0Ohyve9M/w-d-xo.html
amazing tips as always my man! one question tho, I have a boss EQ pedal, there is only one input jack, so how could I use an expression pedal, in such case? thanks dude
I'm afraid this means the Boss EQ you have doesn't take expression pedals. Even the Enieqma only takes MIDI expression pedale. This is one reason the Long Life EQ I was talking about at the end is a big deal--it takes normal expression pedal input and there's a bunch of cool squawky tones you can get with it.
Idk if the reverb on the speaking parts of your video are an effect or natural but if I have open back headphones on it sounds like your giving a lecture in the room with me.
@@CyberattackWorld indeed! Great fun using the cv inputs too. Always struggled to get my wah pedal to stay exactly where i wanted it & this has become the best answer.
Great video as always! Would you consider doing a “how to be advanced” video for the Iridium? Just picked one up and would love to hear some of the things you really dig about it and how you approach it! Cheers!
The Iridium rules my life so it's very tempting. But I'm not sure I really have surprising or "advanced" stuff to do with it. I guess one piece of advice would be to ignore your intuitions about what each amp model is supposed to be good for (Marshall for dirt, Fender for clean), and instead decide which one to use based on what sounds good with whatever guitar you're using. Sometimes I surprise myself with which amp mode ends up sounding the best for the thing I'm doing. Thanks for the comment.
can't you see i'm trying? i don't even like it. i just want to get to your apartment now i'm staying please just for a while i can't sleep cos i'm just way too tired.

As per usual, with every video there are several absolute bops. The one at 5:23 especially in this video. The lo-fi trick is pretty rad!

I love everything about this video. Especially the mall graphics.
Even though, having been behind the sound console, I kind of already know/understand most of this; your video and playing still made me smile
Your best video yet, and the bar's already high.
The fact that all your vids don’t get like 100k views sucks. Such useful information.

Watching this again when I'm high
