I have been almost nonstop binging your videos lately, I really appreciate the happiness and entertainment they give me. Lately around where I live it's been tons of rain and snow and I've only had a few days in the last couple months to get out and actually skate so having your videos to watch has been great. Seeing how good you are at skating is super inspiring for me to get better myself. Also how genuinely of a great person you seem to be is so enlightening in my life especially with the world today, I really like how in some of your videos you actually talk about your life and some of the things you go through, not to benefit off your struggles obviously but seeing that other people go through things as well especially people i really look up to really helps because I don't feel as alone. I think it's really showing of how great a fanbase you have that you're willing to share personal stuff like that.. You're my favorite skater ever. 🙏🏻💚
it's funny I remember leaving a comment similar to this years ago, I guess his content has changed quite a bit but what people are able to get out of it has largely stayed the same!
this actually just got me teary eyed. thank you (:(: i don't really know what to say without sounding a bit silly, so i'll just leave it at, you made my night and i appreciate your existence.
I was having a hard time finding a comfortable skate shoe that didn’t fit weird in some way UNTIL I picked up the Etnies Marana. I also like skating Dunks but their price is getting ridiculous
I bought quite a few pairs of those Maranas, they are the best skate shoe that dont hurt your feet. Only downside is I think they're hard to skate in. I wish they skated better. They're rad for just everyday work shoes though. I tried tons of skate shoes for work and the maranas were the one.
Man. I haven’t always been as fortunate as I am now. I would have to wear the same, to small shoes for over a year at a time. But now we are financially stable and I’m able to skate without worrying when I can get my next pair of shoes. I’m humbled by it and love your lifestyle. 15 years old atm and just got my permit and applied for a job to feed both my addictions and my skating. I’m working on my drug addiction more than anything rn. But yeah. Thank you for being inspiring my man, been watching for a while.
I'm 48. I wear very thick padded shoes on a regular basis. I recently got the Vallely Cariuma shoes and was surprised how stretchable and comfortable they were even after skating 4 hours. Unfortunately Vans these days are too narrow and this very uncomfortable for me.
Cariumas gave me a blister on my toe. Can't skate em anymore, can't even use them to walk cause they're not even comfortable for that compared to other skate shoes I've got.
I absolutely love my Catiba pro cariumas but I’ve been skating them for a while so I was looking for new shoes and was planning on getting the vallelys, glad to hear a review and I guess this finalized it for me!
@@JohnHill back in the late 80's & 90's Vans had wide shoes and Airwalk were wide too. Today, companies like Vans like to make shoes narrower to use less material and save money in the manufacturing process, so they can make more profit. Unfortunately, it ends up in an unwearable product for my son and I, and the fact that the Cariumas stretch to our wider feet, saves our soles. I was initially weary of paying so much and of the cork inserts, but I have been pleasantly surprised in the durability and comfort from them. I'm really glad that Mike Vallely suggested then to me.
I don’t know why but johns videos seem to keep getting better and better. Like every time I go on TH-cam I search his name to see if he uploaded. Love the vids keep it up!
14:45 My advice for skating any shoe with a fat tongue is to lace them up all the way to the last loop and tight them more than you usually would. It might look not as great but it improves the performance soooo much. That way you get a really good snug fit and also excellent protection.
John Hill seems pretty air headed to not tie any of his shoes properly to get optimal fit, then give them a bad score. Go figure from this soulless YT skater
@@kmrskates I would never call him souless, he seems like a good guy. But he is probably very used to skating low profile vans shoes which do not usually require tightening up. The fat tongue of any puffy shoe gives a lot of play left in the fit of the shoe and this is why your heel might lift up if you don't lace it up all the way. This is something that is quite dangerous and really makes your shoe feel floppy which is why I always lace to the top.
@@fifthgear93 I find that quite the opposite. ALL of low profile Vans shoes have required me to tighten them all the way up if I were to skate them and not just chill in them. Their usually thin tongues and minimal padding leaves too much play in the fit that they beg to be tied tighter to fit optimally. Fatter tongues and more padding actually allows you to wear them looser while still fitting snug, since that padding takes up any loose space that is normally tightened down via the laces. All my low cut shoes are laced to the top when skating, or second from the top if I am chilling in them, so no disagreements with ya there! The SILO SC specifically has a roomier fit throughout the shoe, including the heel/ankle area, so that explains John's issue in this video. Got a lace it to the top for best fit while skating. I personally find him insufferable, but he's doing his thing to get views so it pays for his lifestyle. Can't argue with that too much, I guess.
My problem is width. They always seemed to me to be designed for people with dainty feet. I wear a 3E/4E width and the only shoe I have come across that is wide on top and still has a wide enough sole (although a couple more millimeters wouldn't hurt the sole) are the Globe Sabres.
I don't know. But it's good that you wrote this down! In terms of looks, I like these styles of shoes in every way, like Sabre and impeccable on the outside. It holds my ankle well, but I have a problem with its width. The shoe narrows so much at the front that it hurts both my little toe and big toe. Blisters are now calluses. Maybe it should have been half a number larger, because I like it anyway. Thanks! This helped me realize that the shoes weren't bad. It's just the size. (btw mine is the black - moto green colorway) Peace
The eS are actually the Koston eS shoe from the early 2000s just rebranded. I've had those when they came out, and the Carrols are a reissue, had a few pairs of those during those years. My fav is the kyle walkers right now, the lace up version is sick for skating. Old school lows use to be my fav but the redesign skate shoes from vans are a miss with that shoe, totally don't fit right I did like the previous version of those the 'pros'. I also like the new half cabs though, they're good after you really break them in. But I'm now sold on Kyle Walkers, really impressed even bought another pair for leisure.
Glad it’s not just me that thinks a lot of shoes are uncomfortable - even reading through the comments it seems like a lot of people have similar experiences to me. I have a size US11 foot but it’s wide, but I also have really sensitive feet to the point where I can’t break in shoes without being in stupid amounts of pain and literally having to take time off walking. I used to love Vans, Fallen and Etnies for fit out of the box but I haven’t had any good experiences with them in years. The best luck I’ve had for my wide/sensitive foot problems lately have been Globe cupsoles as well as Cariuma Catiba’s. I got some cheap canvas shoes off eBay too and they fit quite well but can tell they also won’t last long. I also started using various FP insoles and found they helped a lot, even just the 3mm ones made a huge difference in my Globe shoes. Thanks for this video, made me feel a little less crazy in my endless pursuit of trying to find shoes that allow me to skate without feeling like I’m dying 😂
I've been going through skate shoes my whole life from ES, World Industry, DVS, DCs, Vans, etc and my favorite style for skating is the puffy tongue ES looking ones but I prefer the slip-on ones for just wearing around... Recently I've been looking for a good pair of BMX shoes for every day wear and now I'm curious about those Amazon specials, those look decent for daily wear. Great video... Keep up the great work.
Same here. Have tried almost every single brand out there. Favourite modern shoes are Adidas Tyshawns. Used to love wearing the old Accels before the éS revival, though.
I love how this guy shows when he fails or doesn’t lands a trick. This shows that even if you are an experienced skater or you have been skating for many year you still make mistakes. I love this channel you are truly one of my favorite skaters. ❤❤🙏🙏
If you liked those eS' you should try the accel OG, legit my favorite skate shoe and I was SO happy when they brought it back; it's so comfy and feels so good to skate in. Accel Slim is great as well but you mentioned you don't like the slimmer shoes and (as per the name) they're a bit more, well, slim.
I really appreciate you being open to discussing big corporate brands like Nike in the skate world. It's something not many want to discuss or be real about. I have found that Nike shoes are uncomfortable, cheap, and somehow more expensive. I wish Prod, Nyjah, and other big names would ditch these big soulless brands and rep real skate companies. I can guarantee that these corporate companies don't give fuck about their riders or the sport, it's just a way to for them expand their already massive reach to corner the global shoe market.
When I started skateboarding in like 1999 to 04 and on and off Nike and Adidas were never in the skateboard business I think they entered about 2010 to be honest I'm not sure when they came in I'll never buy Nike or Adidas skate shoes at all I did get some Nike shifter 6 like 3 years ago they were pretty comfy but I'll never see them as a skate brand
I have been skating for about 35 years now and I've tried a lot of shoes over the year and the most comfy were eS shoes : Accel, Sal Barbier (n°23), Koston's, Arto Saari's. All very good skate shoes and comfortable like no other shoes.
Have you tried the vans kyle walker 1s (lace up, not velcro)? They are the only comfortable skate shoes I've had since seemingly everybody started messing around with vulcs. I loooved cupsoles back in the 90s/00s. Now it seems almost all skate shoes are vulcs and hurt my feet. The kyle walkers feel great like a cupsole but have some of the pros of vulcs 👍
You have to look harder though. There are lots of cupsole skate shoes. And in my mind, except for perhaps the beefiest of thick shoes like Osiris D3-type stuff, they're all superior to vulc shoes in terms of comfort. Arguably something like the Es Accel Slim is a very great skate shoe when it comes to being comfortable, but still having boardfeel. It's one of their thinner shoes. The Es Cykle is also great when it comes to that, very snug shoe that definitely allows an experienced skater to do very technical tricks. I'm an older dude and honestly, I prefer cupsole skate shoes pretty much 100% of the time. I've tried vulc, but the better boardfeel and control of the flick is just not really a benefit to me at all. In my mind the eS Symbol and eS Evants have decent boardfeel. It's just perhaps less so a shoe that instantly works the first day you skate them. But for a skate shoe that lasts so much longer than any of the others, I frankly don't care. My eS Evants have lasted me literally 6 months. Not even joking and the pair is still skateable. Don't expect pro level skating from my side or even daily skating. I have a fulltime job, sadly don't got time for that daily skating grind. But I did regularly skate them and they're perfect in terms of durability (hence me getting a second pair).
Great video John! Been watching since your early LA days 😀 I have sensitive feet too and have been wearing my Adidas AdiEase for 3+ years cause they're one of the only comfortable shoes I've worn especially for skating, Anyway I hope you have a superb day/night and thank you for all your constant dedication🤘
Great video! You should do a second one ranking the shoes again after they broke in. I haven't tried many brands mostly Nike, Vans, Adidas and Converse and in recent years I switched to Emerica and I have been hooked ever since, especially since the pair of Indicators I had lasted over a year of constant hardcore skating, compared to half cabs which I always liked but to be honest in a better case they lasted about a month.
Also give those eS shoes a little more time to break in. They are a thicker cupsole so of course they would break in slower. Give it a day more and they'll be perfect. Also keep in mind that the model you got is leather is not suede and that is why your flick might be different.
Fun video. I like how you hang in there even in windy conditions and trying all these different shoes. I hate the breaking-in period with new shoes. I have wide feet to and it's really annoying when they don't have a wide version of a shoe you really like. Also, I thought that lady was going to try to run you over at first or something. Anyway, thanks for another fun video.
I hear ya. Got scar marks below my ankles due to "extra wide" shoes/trainers that have marginally wider footprint but neglect to widen the opening. Skate shoes were my go-to footwear as a kid just for the wide low ankle bit. CAT, football and "safety" boots are designed for folks with cinderella size feet😂
Setting up to get back into skating, got the DC Gaveler because my DCs were the favorite kicks back in the day and these were on sale. Maybe should have paid more for more cushion and rigidity like I remember, but I never got good at tricks so your comments on board feel help me think optimistic.
I have flat feet and am 40 years old. That means: lots of pain when skating too long. Only ÉS give me the support I need when street skating. BUT, the ADIDAS 3ST 002, are probably the best skate shoes I had for board control. Put some Footprint insoles if you need it. So... even if I love the look of other skate shoes... I have to stick with és. I bought 4 pairs in 4 months.
Emerica G6 cupsoles, like the Juilian Davidson Gamma G6, the Spanky G6 (although it's lack of padding up top bums me out and I'm not super into the look), and now they'll be releasing the KSL G6 sometime soon as well. That G6 cupsole is amazing! First experience with it was the Reynolds G6, and I am convinced it is still one of the best skate shoes I've ever had on my feet. I was super sad to see it go, which is why I'm so hyped for Julian's Gamma G6. Also recently gotten way into the New Balance Numeric 1010s. It was hard to justify dropping $100 on a pair of skate shoes, but they're the most comfortable shoe I've ever skated.Took a couple of sessions to get used to the 1010s as far as less board feel goes, but either option is a super comfortable shoe built for skateboarding. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.
Yeah I skate Emerica Temple's which also have the G6. They took a few hours to break in and now I love them. They were $30 direct from Emerica. Emerica has great sales on their website frequently.
I hate when ppl pronounce the name Ee-merica though. You say it like the name of the country. I always took it as a subversive take on "America". Like Amerikkka. But it's also a traditional name in Italy.
I got a pair of silos and they skate really nice 1 issue though If you have wide feet the elasticated tongue inside the shoe can really hurt your feet for the first few sessions but. If I remember correctly this was always an issue with some es shoes. Instead of breaking them in you can always snip both sides of the tongue(where the elastic runs down to the soles)with scissors and the excessive tightness is eliminated.
So I am a 34 year old skater. I have been skating since I was 5. My feet are an odd shape. Most shoe hurt. I am a skater owned type of guy. I like things that are made for skaters by skaters.....But. I bought a pair of New Balance 913 Westgates. Now I can't turn back. I have a new pair stashed for when these blow out. Try them out amigo. I love them.
Oh boy how I hope these old core brands can maintain a respectful space in our community. From the bottom of my old head heart. Working in a skateshop for years now, I am afraid though that sales wise there is no comparison to the faceless two companies and to vans. And VF as the company behind vans now, that’s a whole beast of another story.
Adidas and Nike suck. You are paying for massive advertising campaigns and gov't lobbying while getting a shoe that is mass produced as cheap as possible, often using reprehensible labor practices. I'm disappointed the ethics of supporting these companies isn't more of a concern or spoken about by "influencers". I will never ever ever buy them shits. Core skate brands until I die
Im a " overweight " skater at 6'4 320lbs, i gotta say Vans at this point in my life are the most comfortable shoe out of say Airmaxes, SBs, But boy i saw he had Nuzzi brand, Spencer taught me everything and how to not care about what others think I really want me some Nuzzi brand
your videos honestly are inspiring me to go out and skate. i’ve been struggling lately with just having the energy and strength to skate, thank you for reminding me how fun and rewarding skating can be. keep doing you!
I’m the one who emailed you about how your shoes fit i have Asperger’s you’ve really helped me a lot I’m honestly so stoked you even answered my email you’re the reason i skate 🙏
*Nike SB Heritage Vulcs,* best skate shoe of all time. they're all suede, thin but not flimsy, comfy but not chunky, great grip and boardfeel. IF YOU'RE READING THIS, DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND COP A PAIR, and theyre the cheapest sb shoes I own! They're pretty much the Nike equivalent of the vans silhouette, but actually comfortable and durable.
As someone who religiously skates vans, The old skools you’re wearing are the “classic style” And they switched from “Pros” to “Skates” about a year ago and the new “Skate Old Skools” are worlds better for skating. Better insole, better quality laces and suede and pretty much a rubber toe cap that’s underneath the suede (The same insoles in the Kyle walker 2’s you were skating are the same ones in the new “Skate Old Skools”)
Es silos are one of my favorites,I like skating the more puffy shoes that's what I grew up skating in it takes a little to get used to the feel if you skate more modern shoes.
Since I first got into skating I've used DC brand shoes. I don't even skate anymore and I wear the stag and Graffiti DC shoes. They have been the only ones I've found to be truly comfortable throughout its life span.
Chima 2 has hands down been the best shoe I've skated in years. Comfortable, durable, slim in the right spots, thick in the right spots, great board feel and nice look too
i have a wide foot, back when i skated i pretty much skated in only bulky wide shoes. globe, circa, d3 and d3 2001 were actually my favorite skate shoe. i actually just bought the new pairs that they started making for every day wear since i no longer skate but love the shoe and they made the sole with much better material considering how materials have advanced since late 90s early 00's
I agree so much with this video dude! Top and bottom of my feet hurts so much with skate shoes and they leave my feet hurting for a few days even after
I grew up skateboarding in the PH. When you're in highschool and college, you usually cant buy brand new stuff. I developed a liking on Nike since it is very available in ukay-ukays(thrift stores). Vans ended up taking over those same ukay ukays when skateboarding became mainstream.
lol old school companies like es and dc already solved the uncomfortable skate shoe dilemma by making bulky shoe designs, things just started getting slimmer for whatever reason it may be so now we have a problem. i have some last resorts on the way though :P
The new VANS COMFY CUSH series remedies all of the various skateboarding shoe problems they ever had, and it's THE most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever put on my feet I can remember in my 62 years. The new sole sticks like glue and has a noticeable wider defined footprint. I too suffer from painful feet problems and you are sure to encounter the same problem ; as well, if you do not take preliminary measures now. Instead of like myself whom after decades of bicycle, skateboard ,abusive hikes, and dumb jumps from high places that now I can forecast the weather from arthritic foot pain. For goodness sakes get good orthopedic quality insoles to replace any factory included insoles. Quality insoles (plantar fasciitis, athletic etc.)used NOW is gonna save you younger skaters a world of foot pain LATER ; and shin splits, sciatic nerve pain, and arthritic pain too.
I love these. The board feel is great. They are light. And I love the look. However they are a bit on the narrow side so I had to size up by half a size. I actually skate more in my Emerica Temples - which I was not super excited about at first, but now that they're broken in...They're pretty amazing. Not nearly as much boardfeel as the DC LZ's, just enough, but make up for it with an extremely grippy sole and for me, slightly more comfort while skating
I just got a real skateboard so I started watching skateboard stuff on yt and I found this guy. Litteretly your my favorite skateboard youtuber, even above braile. This guys awsome. keep up the grind and god bless
I started learning in the Adidas Daily. Not bad until you just cruise, or do basic tricks so the canvas in not destroyed instantly :D And I am surprised by the title. I just bought 3 shoes for skateboarding (Adidas Tyshawn, Nike Zoom Blazer Mid and an Ave Pro and the last two felt like a dream from the start, even more so than my worn-in Dailies)
I couldn’t find affordable skate shoes but then I went into a Marshall’s and found Nautica shoes for $20 and they were surprisingly decent. I also got some Levi’s skate type shoes for $16. They’re also ok. The only thing I found was that they were a little thin and started out with a finish on the sole that needed to be worn off to make them grippy enough for proper skating.
Do any skate shoe companies make wide fit shoes, a lot of people don't know that shoes have 2 sizes one for length e.g 9,10,11 and one for width e.g B,D,2E,4E. I'm a 10 length and 4E extra wide, Asics make the best shoes for my foot with New Balance being the second best option and its near impossible to find shoes in most other brands, thinking of getting back into skating and if anyone knows of any shoes in 4E that would be good to know as when I used to skate, I always had to buy shoes 2 sizes to big which is less than ideal.
I recently found out that running shoes are hella comfortable when skateboarding. I first started skateboarding over a year ago and I skated with cariumas because I thought they were the best skate shoe. They are pretty good but they provide pretty much no support for my feet and I’m flat footed. I thought my legs were weak because I got hella sore from skateboarding just after skateboarding for like an hour. But I just recently realized that my New balance running shoes got suede on them. I tried one ollie and it felt amazing like my feet were in heaven. So from now on I’m going to be skating in new balances.
I've heard last resort kind of sucks from anyone who actually skated them. Too expensive for what it is. Edit: The woman with the crossover was peak Karen. Okay not peak, but I'm getting beyond tired getting kicked out of spots as an adult. When I was a teenager I expected it, but lately I've been giving people a lot of shit for getting into my business. I skate solo exclusively, I do it to relax, now fk off and let me skate - I'll be gone in 20 minutes.
Youre a G. love your content. Love your art, keep killing it. Also, i've been skating the Louie Lopez Cons, and i've never loved a shoe so much. I've skated ALL of them, NB is probably #2 because i love the cons so much. I highly recommend them. I also like adidas. Vans blow now a days. and Fuck Cariumas. The whole concept is so dope. i bought some because of it, but hated them. i also hate how theyre everywhere now a days.
When I first heard about Cariuma it was the Vallely's and I was confused and thought it was his company, got siked. No, it's a spinoff of a luxury footwear brand who thinks skaters are a good mark and sponsored a lot of skaters like Mike V to buy cred. F that
I really enjoy these videos because I thought it was just me being weak and thats why my feet would hurt. Thanks for your content, really appreciate it.
I hate to admit Cariuma are pretty comfortable. I mostly use the expensive king FP insoles that form to my feet which I also don't like that much but once broken in they're decent. I know for a fact skate shoes from the early 2000s were significantly better because I still have some stored away. My heels always come out of Lakais too.
The Last Resorts seem gimmicky based on your feedback. They look great like "adult artsy" vans but the fact they went with canvas/suede which necessited changing the soles and making them bulky to protect the canvas/suede was a bad move and made fashion first choices which is odd for a shoe designed by a skater but some skaters are really into art so will prioritize the look. The Nuzzi shoes seem like a better execution where "design" and looking "artsy" takes a backseat to being a good shoe to skate in.
I have the same issue with lakai shoes. No matter how tight I tie them they always slip off my heel. I could physically cut the circulation off to my feet from how tight I tie them and I still get heel slip. I found that the new balance 316 Jamie foy shoes are so nice and hold my feet nice and firm but comfortably
I actually hate having board feel. Lol been skating only fatty és since the 2000s and all my tricks go out the window with slimmer shoes with a ton of board feel.
The new skateboard shoes suck. But my old airwalk shoes from late 80s / early 90s fit nice and they was thicker and comfortable I still have my vallely airwalk shoes from way back then. And I wear some ken block dc shoes. But mostly new shit fall apart quickly and you got to buy more. I used to have my purple and gray velocity airwalk shoes.. but lost them during my first divorce and second divorce and I was homeless before. But I only had to pay child support to my first exwife I had 2 kids with. Now I'm 47 and married 3rd time with 32 year old and we have 3 lil kids together. But I manage to keep my skateboard collection and added some more and one set airwalk shoes my vallely. They used to stitch the sole to leather of the shoes and glue.. but these new shoes dont use the best stuff and just glue the sole shoes they barely stitch them anymore. It's to make you buy more new shoes. It's on purpose to do to you guys.. how I kept my skateboard collection was I left them in storage before my mom's passing in her boyfriend attic of his garage..
These skate shoes now are too skinny and slim that's why they're uncomfortable, I hate to be the old guy but even when I stopped skating in 03', back in that fat shoe days I kept wearing skate shoes cause they were so comfortable, and they were fat partly to protect your feet, and to be as comfortable as possible while skating, just try a pair if you don't believe me, u won't go back I promise you, and I started skating again 3 years ago I don't think I could skate the skinny shoes, thank God you can still get the fat shoes
eS ALL DAY LONG. My favorite shoe was Zoom Tre back in the early 2000s. Then the Busenitz (cupsole). I do like the Busenitz vulc too actually. But for the past few years, eS shoes are all I like to skate with. SLB 97 was my shit but now the Quattro are my way to go. If I need more board feel, I go back to the Busenitz Vulc. I would have chosen the SLB97 but they don't make them anymore. edit - If anyone's interested in the Amazon shoe, it's Lugz Clipper Sneaker.
I work as a mechanic on concrete all fuckin day, i like skatin stairs. I went through the same thing trying to find a good shoe to skate so i dont destroy my feet. Avoiding the obivous stiff painful vulc(but so good for doing tricks.) I found adidas tyshawns were the beest. Takes a good sesh to break in, but definatly the best for comfort and skateability.
I can’t skate Vans and Nike because They hurt my shoes. I love Adidas but their insoles are way too thin, I skated many busenitz cupsoles but I so usually replace the insoles. I tried Last Resort and the soles feel like they are made of paper, they are way too thin I don’t even want to Ollie with those shoes on. I love Lakai but yeah, I had troubles with some of their modes (especially the Flaco low ) just like John my heel was slipping off the shoes all the times. Did not have the same problem with the Newport (actually one of my favourite vulcanized shoes). Fallen are good. Emerica used to be good but tbh haven’t skated one in years. Love me some Lakai Telford or Atlantic lately , Carrols are good too but for Lakais you still need to change the insoles, way too thin for me. Es Accel were the best shoes in the early 2000s and in my opinion still are after 20 years.
Honestly, people are getting the wrong shoes when it comes to true comfort. :) Probably. I own quite a few shoes that do not hurt. The Vans Old Skool are easily the worst of the bunch you tried. They'd be a 1/10 to me. I'm personally a real fan of eS. I have multiple pairs of Evants and Symbol and also have skated the Accel OG and Accel Slim, the Evant and Symbol are probably my favourite shoes overall. This includes durability and foot protection. The flick and boardfeel are less than a whole lot of other shoes, but actually not that hard to get used to. In terms of comfort, they're a 10/10. Ironically, currently I'm trying out Nike SB Blazer Zoom Mids and they're like a 7/10, but do not expect much from impact protection as there is none. Having to lace them up is kind of annoying. But the flick is very decent. I can see why a lot of people like to skate Blazer Mids.
With you on your whole comment. Here for a Vans rant: Their durability is the worst in the industry, their base models have by far the worst impact protection, they look and feel cheap and they're pretty much the only shoes I can consistently put holes in after one session. I hate that I feel like that too, because I love the Van Dorens and used to love their shoes.
Best shoe to skate Historically? Adidas Samba Worst shoe to skate Historically? Nike Omar Salazar Battle shoe for long sessions and demanding skateboarding? Etnies Marana Shoes to skate like Lucas Puig? that's stupid, we will never skate like Lucas... also, Adidas Lucas Puig Shoes to Skate like Shane? Vans AVE Underdog Brand that could wipe the Shoe Industry in a heartbeat? Qix from Brazil Mainstream Brand that should make skateboarding shoes? Diadora The shoe that everyone has to skate once in their lifetime? éS Accel My current shoe? Diadora Field: low cost, lots of tech in a simple, slim shoe and you can grab a pair for like $40 bucks.
I love real shoe reviews. I'm like a chick when it comes to skate shoes. The army tore up my feet, ankles, knees ect so I'm very picky with my shoes. So thank you for helping me out and love the content keep it up!
i feel you on this, vans kill my feet and don’t allow me to even skate properly, nikes are narrow as fuck tbh, just skate shoes suck, the only skate shoe that i want that i have yet to try and a pair of dunks, i love how ones feel on my feet and dunks are basically ones

this actually just got me teary eyed. thank you (:(: i don't really know what to say without sounding a bit silly, so i'll just leave it at, you made my night and i appreciate your existence.
Facts bro John is a goat
I feel the exact same way, honestly. John is rad as fuck and riiips.
Yep rain and snow
I was having a hard time finding a comfortable skate shoe that didn’t fit weird in some way UNTIL I picked up the Etnies Marana. I also like skating Dunks but their price is getting ridiculous
“Getting?”😭😂
@@masons215 🤨
I bought quite a few pairs of those Maranas, they are the best skate shoe that dont hurt your feet. Only downside is I think they're hard to skate in. I wish they skated better. They're rad for just everyday work shoes though. I tried tons of skate shoes for work and the maranas were the one.
Sb dunks or normal dunks
My last shoes were the Maranas and I found them very comfortable and nice to skate in. One of the best shoes ive skated
Unfortunately Vans these days are too narrow and this very uncomfortable for me.
narrowness has always been my problem, i get that old shows tend to widen, but i'll take all the wide i can get.
Vans are the farthest from narrow. Nike sb takes that crown

I wear a 3E/4E width and the only shoe I have come across that is wide on top and still has a wide enough sole (although a couple more millimeters wouldn't hurt the sole) are the Globe Sabres.
new balance makes good wide models
Seriously love these POV clips. Started using your foot positioning for kickflips and I have them down solid now 😍
I've been going through skate shoes my whole life from ES, World Industry, DVS, DCs, Vans, etc and my favorite style for skating is the puffy tongue ES looking ones but I prefer the slip-on ones for just wearing around...
Slims definitely have the board feel he's looking for with the comfort but imo the OG Accels are the 🐐
I really appreciate you being open to discussing big corporate brands like Nike in the skate world.
KW2’s are amazing imo. I love them, no complaints
Great video John! Been watching since your early LA days 😀 I have sensitive feet too and have been wearing my Adidas AdiEase for 3+ years cause they're one of the only comfortable shoes I've worn especially for skating, Anyway I hope you have a superb day/night and thank you for all your constant dedication🤘
i used to be obsessed with how adiease's look. worked at a skateshop and always looked forward to getting a shipment of them in.
Also keep in mind that the model you got is leather is not suede and that is why your flick might be different.
eS all the way!
CAT, football and "safety" boots are designed for folks with cinderella size feet😂
comfort is one of the most important things in skating. If my fit doesn't feel comfortable on a day very often I will skate much wrose
Your really positive, I started watching you every day when I started skating😂 but theres no negativity from you. Keep it up dood
I skate with my DC shoes and wear them basically everywhere. Especially love them for long hikes, never wear hiking shoes :)
My man goes hiking in flat untextured DC's for hiking dfkm 😭
Mud must be your mortal enemy.
@@thepancakemann I like DC's because the rubber is supper grippy. Went through mud, snow, no issues. I nano coat all my shoes anyway.
I got a pair of silos and they skate really nice
1 issue though If you have wide feet the elasticated tongue inside the shoe can really hurt your feet for the first few sessions but.
P.s. I kind of hate that I love them.
12:30 first time I’ve ever seen John put a board together
Im a " overweight " skater at 6'4 320lbs, i gotta say Vans at this point in my life are the most comfortable shoe out of say Airmaxes, SBs, But boy i saw he had Nuzzi brand, Spencer taught me everything and how to not care about what others think
I really want me some Nuzzi brand
The thing about the wino g6s is theyre fantastic but once they wear in all the way they become loose af unless you double sock
my favorite all around shoe, good for skating and chilling. Also, you can get them cheap, my last pairs I bought for like 30.
@@auto-nomadic1326 yeah i love them, they're my work/backup skate shoes, my Etnies got a hole in em, so while the shoe goo dries, its Emerica time
Adidas and Eś are the best shoes in the industry, quality, style, and performance for sure.
your videos honestly are inspiring me to go out and skate. i’ve been struggling lately with just having the energy and strength to skate, thank you for reminding me how fun and rewarding skating can be. keep doing you!
As someone who religiously skates vans, The old skools you’re wearing are the “classic style”
And they switched from “Pros” to “Skates” about a year ago and the new “Skate Old Skools” are worlds better for skating. Better insole, better quality laces and suede and pretty much a rubber toe cap that’s underneath the suede
(The same insoles in the Kyle walker 2’s you were skating are the same ones in the new “Skate Old Skools”)
They got worse over time. OG pros used to have gel insoles. These new ones hurt my feet out the box.
@@meltingspot1064 I guess that’s just preference then, I personally feel like they’re already broken in right when I put them on
Es silos are one of my favorites,I like skating the more puffy shoes that's what I grew up skating in it takes a little to get used to the feel if you skate more modern shoes.
Since I first got into skating I've used DC brand shoes. I don't even skate anymore and I wear the stag and Graffiti DC shoes. They have been the only ones I've found to be truly comfortable throughout its life span.
All the varieties in your camera angles are sick! It makes it so watchable along with your fun personality bro 🙏 thanks for sharing everyday
Expected some hot take about Nike, get John getting all sappy about how he loves his buddies. That was delightful.
lol old school companies like es and dc already solved the uncomfortable skate shoe dilemma by making bulky shoe designs, things just started getting slimmer for whatever reason it may be so now we have a problem. i have some last resorts on the way though :P
Quality insoles (plantar fasciitis, athletic etc.)used NOW is gonna save you younger skaters a world of foot pain LATER ; and shin splits, sciatic nerve pain, and arthritic pain too.
for those knock off amazon ones they have em at ross and they were like 20 bucks at my local one and they are actually really comfy and snug
The DC Lynx Zero is honestly the perfect balance of board feel and impact protection for me 👌🏼
I love these.
Really liked this vid, I think it will help me pick out my next pair!
Last resorts alll right
“ohh, i thought you were like a stranger, didn’t know you owned the place” 😭 imma use that next time i get kicked out a spot lol
Yeah John! Get some Fallen!
I just got a real skateboard so I started watching skateboard stuff on yt and I found this guy. Litteretly your my favorite skateboard youtuber, even above braile. This guys awsome. keep up the grind and god bless
been a while, don’t skate anymore but I love watching your videos
Clicked as soon as I got the notification lol, love the go pro angle!
I started learning in the Adidas Daily. Not bad until you just cruise, or do basic tricks so the canvas in not destroyed instantly :D
And I am surprised by the title. I just bought 3 shoes for skateboarding (Adidas Tyshawn, Nike Zoom Blazer Mid and an Ave Pro and the last two felt like a dream from the start, even more so than my worn-in Dailies)
I’ve got the same silo SCs, love the koston vibe to them too
I couldn’t find affordable skate shoes but then I went into a Marshall’s and found Nautica shoes for $20 and they were surprisingly decent. I also got some Levi’s skate type shoes for $16. They’re also ok. The only thing I found was that they were a little thin and started out with a finish on the sole that needed to be worn off to make them grippy enough for proper skating.
Liking the Kyle Walker laced shoes (tight squeeze to start with indeed) and love Emerica Temple shoes (fit like a glove!)
Love the Temples too. G6. Super comfy after short break-in. Super grippy. A lot of rubber, so they're heavy, but they just feel great to skate in.
DCs are pretty wide and comfortable
Thanks for being you Johnathan!
Just got into your content, thanks for giving me my skating fix while not being able to actually skate because it’s so cold.
The first pair of Lakai's just needed to be tied more, imo.
100% lol
I hate to admit Cariuma are pretty comfortable. I mostly use the expensive king FP insoles that form to my feet which I also don't like that much but once broken in they're decent.
I know for a fact skate shoes from the early 2000s were significantly better because I still have some stored away. My heels always come out of Lakais too.
Dude! I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing the heel slip on Lakais
Have you tried the new Ishod’s? They actually have a surprisingly good design w/ comfort. Usually a Vans half cab person.
Vans actually acknowledge that their shoes will rip your heel apart, there’s even a section on their website about it.
I say it every video, But I love the Jazz, it's perfect for skate videos 😀
if you like old school 90s style like those es ones you have to try dc lynx og and zero they are so comfy and the zeros are almost perfect for me
DC LZ's are IMO one of the best looking and feeling skate shoes ever - except they run narrow, which is not going to work for John
Been wanting a pair of lakais, even if they weren't your favorites just always loved the look! Anyways love your videos!
Nike SB are the most Comfortable Skate shoes. 👟 I’m currently rocking my Chicago SB
Those ON’s are super comfortable shoes and great for your feet! Great video and amazing skating! Thank You for sharing
I skate the es accel og’s a lot and they don’t really have much of a break in period
We are missing the most popular Skateboard brand shoes of all-time, Nike.
B what!? They made skate shoes?
eS ALL DAY LONG.
I usually use comfortable insoles and dcs the padding on the rear helps from when I sprained my ankle
Try Fallen Patriots or Troopers if you’re a cupsole guy, only shoes I skate aside from Accels or Walker pro 1.
Dude, I hope you had an actual session that day too. Trying 10 pairs of shoes in a session sounds like a nightmare😂
The es silo sc 2 look really comfy, I’ve been looking for that exact color way but can’t find it

I love real shoe reviews. I'm like a chick when it comes to skate shoes. The army tore up my feet, ankles, knees ect so I'm very picky with my shoes. So thank you for helping me out and love the content keep it up!
Were all the shoes, except for maybe the Es and Lakai, vulcanized? I'm interested in trying some cup soles...
john how do you get out of a feeble on a flat bar I always land primo pls help
i feel you on this, vans kill my feet and don’t allow me to even skate properly, nikes are narrow as fuck tbh, just skate shoes suck, the only skate shoe that i want that i have yet to try and a pair of dunks, i love how ones feel on my feet and dunks are basically ones
Etnies Joslins are the most comfortable, protective and durable shoes I've tried. I've had them a year and still no holes in the Michelin soles.
i almost always skate in sb dunks there really comfy but the price is fkd
What trucks do you skate? They seem really good and I want to know what’s good since I’ve only ever used thunder, Indy, and ace.
