you are the first person i have seen take air inlet from inside the house, instead of preheating cold air, been saying this for ages, i bet the metal cabinet acts like a heat store also. and its a dry heat.. these things could prevent so many damp problems many homes have had for years!, one benefit of pulling in outside air, is that it will put the house, in positive pressure, and therefore reducing draughts.. im sure a clever person could build a heat exchanger from the exhaust and pre heat inlet air.. al good stuff.
Yea your right mate it totally makes sense to recycle the air to increase the temperature even more and works well, yea the cabinet does soak a little heat and it’s a perfect little corner for the heater. I was looking into doing the mod that people do with an old EGR cooler on the exhaust to drive a little radiator in my kitchen but I may build an air to air box over the exhaust and use a fan to pump the hot air into my kitchen and that way I’d get the positive air pressure too 👍 yes I agree more houses should have them even just to stop the damp related issues. My heater is outside in a wooden cabinet I’ve built and so draws cold fresh air from outside. Since installing it a week ago I’ve noticed I get no condensation on any of my inside windows. Previously my kitchen and bathroom windows were always streaming with water. Alongside a temperature gauge I have is a moisture content reading which now reads around 40 to 50% whereas before it was usually around 70%.

@@CarJunkeez ..keep an eye on the heater for leaks in the exhaust. I saw another guy from your part of the world used copper pipe as an exhaust. Also buy a few spare fuel pumps, they fail often, they’re cheap though. Buy gaskets as well etc etc. Better off having the spare parts there ready

Nicely done, I think as gas prices hike even more next year in the UK these heaters will become even more popular than ever even in modern well insulated homes like ours, our 32 Kw gas boiler is consuming £1.00 an hour in these freezing temps when the nights get down to minus 7 degrees C just to maintain around 17 degrees C indoors, our outside wall is at a constant 4 degrees C internally, even with cavity wall insulation, so I decided to install a diesel heater in a custom made box outside our home drawing internal air from our kitchen and blowing warm air into the living room. my calculations are that it is costing around 7 to 10 pence per hour to run, a massive improvement on runing a gas boiler, I wish we had done this years ago. gas currently is working out at £60 a week on prepay with no debt on the meter running a diesel heater £20 a week on diesel is a no brainer. I had to extend the cables a little bit and Im running the set up on a 75 amp battery. in case of power cuts that we have been promised in the UK in January and February, im also runing a 20 amp battery charger when the unit is running so when the power fails the battery can cope with the shutdown procedure as it is quite well known that if the power supply fails the heater fan cant go through the shut down cooling process and it can fry the electronics inside the heater. some have proved this wrong with one attempt at complete shutdown on the mains supply but I fear that if it happens once to often it will fry the electronics eventually and a reasonably priced 75 Amp battery isn't very expensive to replace from eBay.
Brilliant mate, sounds like you’ve got a good setup and saving you some money there. Yes I have central heating too on LPG and I get the 47kg bottles and they only last a week if I’m lucky in these temperatures and they are so expensive now. Yea there’s no need to have these heaters on high but work really well on low for keeping the temperature bearable and you can just boost it with other means like a coal burner just to be compatible when at home. 😁 cheers 👍👍
And, when having a battery in between , You can charge it with starter cables from the car ( petrol/diesel) or have 500 watt pure sine inverter on the car snd charge with the battery charger during cut outs..My dual battery system in my work car can run the diesel heater for 3 -4 days without starting my car..
I fitted one two weeks ago after paying £125 for 47kg of LPG. My red is a £1/litre from the farm, its costing me £3 a day to run which is half the cost of LPG. Nice installation you have there, my air supply is from my big workshop, no sense in dragging in freezing air.

@@CarJunkeez Ive just bought a standalone 5 kw unit for my 16ft by 8ft workshop but prices have increased in the past week on both ebay and amazon your looking at nearly £200 for a standalone unit and there arnt many kit sets available at 5kw they seem to be mostly 2kw now, however ours heating our front room mounted on the outside wall is a 2kw unit and its doing a brilliant job in a 16 ft by 11 ft living room.

Heres a tip. Run a duel tank /duel valve setup. Start it with your kerosene then switch a valve over to filtered waste oil tank retrieved from your autos.. free is good. Thanks for the upload!

Got mine set up on red diesel,using around 250ml just over 1 HR,...I too recirculating the hot air coming through,mine sits in the inside of the home against the wall with the exhaust just going through the wall(all sealed with exhaust paste) yes I use a carbon monoxide detector as well,also sitting on a car battery with a trickle charger so if the power went down I would get around 5days off battery(I know this cause I have already tested the battery).......I loved that tank buddy.....what's the building regs for the tank with local authorities????
most oil companies will deliver two 205 litre drums of red diesel these days and comparing it to the cost of gas its a lot cheaper, or you can travel to them and buy 20 litre carboys direct after filling out a disclaimer for the tax man stating that you are using it to heat your home

Nice setup but just wanted to point out, the air intake that comes from the bottom of the unit is supposed to be kept away from the exhaust, someone might correct me here but I think it’s the clean air intake for combustion & pulling exhaust fumes back threw the combustion intake will affect the units life span & performance, be best off pulling it back through the wall and leaving it inside under the unit👍

Done this in my shed, the only remark I have that if you have a grid failure or a power supply failure, you will burn up the ECU, I use a battery in parallel to prevent this.
Great job you did here, having a massive diesel tank is key. At the prices you mentioned it is a cozy and warm winter for less than having it heated on gas. In some respect you are basically on the Arctic, Survival is immenent. I would create a double (sealed room) door entrance so you can close one before opening the other. A thermostat to regulate the control of your diesel pump would be a nice ad-on. Is that even possible? Make sure you have a 12v battery ready (tricle charged) to run the heater if a power outage or some other disturbance is bothering you.
Thanks mate 😁 yea I just heat one room up in the evening and then open the doors when I go to bed and it’s so economical, I’m on solar so it always has battery backup but I think I may do a 12v sealed lead acid alarm battery too and set the power supply voltage accordingly so it wont over charge it just incase 👍 cheers
Mate, have the fuel pump at 45 degrees... not a straight in line... better fuel delivery (less fuel used) and the pump will last longer before burnout or air-locks.
Great set though just check you pump positioning as I’ve seen some stuff that it has to be positioned on an angle to get best performance on fuel economy etc but your set up may be different . Cheers for great video will invest in one for sure
Thanks mate appreciated 🙏😃 yea the pump is actually at a 45 degree angle but it’s tricky to see it is in the video, to be honest it would be best to fit the pump vertically upright as it’s just to make sure no air is trapped in it. I do find that the pump allows more Kerosene to flow than it does Diesel on each stroke because the Kerosene is thinner, that’s why I changed the settings. Thanks 👍👍
I built a small wooden plywood box for our externally mounted pump then I drilled 4 holes in the top and bottom of the box 2 at each end of the pump then suspended the pump on thin bungee cord available at B&Q it has completely silenced the clicking noise the pump makes and you can still suspend the pump at 45 degrees.
You need to watch David McLuckie's videos on TH-cam about mounting the fuel pump vertical instead of horizontal, it makes a lot of sense. So much for the 10L tank. The ongoing question about recirculating the inside air...regular furnaces have been recirculating inside air for decades, why is this such an issue?
My pump is at 45 degrees at the mo but it’s hard to tell on the video but yes I agree it is best to mount them vertically, yea it makes sense to recycle the air as it gets reheated and it’s separate from the room that the heater is in so less chance of getting fumes. I used the 10 litre tank and didn't put in the supplied fuel nozzel at the bottom of the tank instead I installed the vehicle tank pipe included at the top of the tank a few mm above the bottom and used fuel proof epoxy adhesive to glue it in place after sanding all the surfaces to get a good bond. the tank is wall mounted and now needs to be in a UV protect6ive box to protect it from the sun. dont forget to drill the lid with a 1 mm hole to allow the tank to breathe you can glue a strip of rubber old cycle inner tube over the hole on three sides to keep the rain out of the tank.
This for real 2000 ltr tank , exhaust comes out under tank , full of kerosene, (down graded jet fuel) All to run a cheap Chinese Air heater Which you use 1 ltr to run 10 hrs .
Hi, The exhaust is nearly 3 feet away from the tank and there’s plenty of open air to vent as it’s on the metal frame, it’s not even as bad as a car if you think about it with exhaust right next to fuel tanks 👍 cheers

By the time u use last drop of fuel out that tank it will have gone off premium lol also i might add would be more practical to run it on a battery charged from your solar incase of power cuts, brilliant set up tho, ive had deisel heater in a van and have one doing nothing for 2 yrs stored i have cintemplated doing this in my home and finaly found a vid i like to take the plunge , rgds matey
I know yea the price as already dropped massively 😂 I shouldn’t of panic bought 😆 yea think I’m gonna have a lead acid battery and charger just incase as they burnout the PCB pretty quick on power cut. I tend to heat 2 rooms in cold winter then open the doors when I go bed and switch it off, but really chuffed on how well it does mate 👍 cheers

Yea sorry pal, it basically heats up my front room 1 bedroom and my bathroom, although it will heat the other bedroom and kitchen to but have to have the heater on high 👍 cheers

It’s was trial and error mate, I had one of the simple controllers and board before and it was using far to much fuel so swapped for this controller so I could tweak settings, I’ve got an air to fuel meter for a car that I’m gonna fine tune it with too but it’s working well at the mo. Just one thing to bare in mind though is these heaters are all different so my settings may not be right for yours to 👍 cheers

Good set up but do not turn the power supply of wile its running as you will cook the hole unit and mite have a fire, let the unit go through its cool down cycle for safety.
Most sellers have nearly tripled the prices lately because of demand, they are probably the same but some have the more advanced controller so you can tweak them, but the seller doesn’t even know the difference between them anyway 😂
Can you provide a link for the heater you purchased there are so many different ones for sale and the wording is not always so great so it's hard to tell which is a good purchase not to mention the price you quoted is lower than most of what I'm finding
Hi, I got mine from vevor.com but they no longer have any in stock, these heaters have dramatically increased in price in the past few weeks and availability has decreased so they’re difficult to get at the mo. Mine is the 5kw and I changed the board and controller from another all in one unit so I can tweak it that I also got from vevor.com , I’ve actually got 5 heaters in total from vevor.com in the past few months. A couple of things would be a fire valve from your tank, plus it has to be at least 2m from the property to comply with building regs. Then exhausting under the tank is a worst case scenario. Tidy up the electrics maybe and everything else seems good tbh. I think I might buy one now.

If your temperatures outside go below freezing then kerosene is your best bet however a gallon of kerosene has 112,000 BTUs gallon fuel oil or what you call heating oil has 144,000 BTUs so you’re much better off to use fuel oil one it’s cheaper than kerosene and to the heat output is greater than kerosene. The only advantage to burning kerosene is that it won’t gel and fuel oil will begin to jail in about 28°❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cheers 😃👍 Here in the U.K. we have standard or premium(has an additive) heating oil(kerosene) or red diesel and these Chinese heaters do burn hottest with the diesel but has high sulphur content and can coke up the inside of the heaters. I run the standard heating oil as it cheeper and has a clean burn so won’t really coke up the heater. 👍 cheers
I was a bit worried but I suppose it’s not like it’s petrol as that would definitely be worrying 😂 I was gonna put my solar inverter and batteries in that out house too but now I’m putting them in the kitchen as they’d only be a couple of inches away from the fuel tank 😂
@@CarJunkeez Oil tank regs state that they can't be installed close to anything combustible, it needs to be something like 1.5 metres away from such items, gutters, soffit boards etc included. Also, is that a double skinned tank? If not and it leaks, you could end up with a huge clean up bill especially if you have a well, river etc close by. Sorry, just be aware of potential problems from insurance companies etc if the worse were to happen. I've only recently learned all this myself due to moving to a property that's got oil fed system and needed a new tank fitted.

Your oil tank is not securely supported, it already looks distorted around that metal frame. A leak of 2000 litres of heating oil will not be a pleasant experience.
Hi, The only distortion in the tank is from when it was manufactured, you’d be surprised at how thick and strong this tank is and I’ve modified the metal frame to suit with 5mm thick angle welded under each rib 👍 but thanks for the heads up I’ll keep an eye on her 👍 cheers
@@CarJunkeez According to fuel storage regulations oil tanks over 1000 litres should either be internally bunded or surrounded by a concrete base and bund wall large enough to contain the max. capacity. In all cases they must be installed on a flat concrete pad larger than the base dimensions of the tank. I liked your video though, just be careful.

Hi, no it doesn’t take much electricity at all, it just draws around 18 amps for the glow plug for a couple of minutes and then not much to run. The 8kw (5kw really) is meant to be the measurement of heat output. 👍
The fan and fuel pump combo take 18-44 watts depending on the speed. The startup draws about 120 total watts because it uses a ceramic glow plug to heat the oil to the point of combustion. If the heater is powered up then adjusted to the lowest setting and allowed to just tick away and never turn off, you're looking at about 20 watts.

Yep totally fine on paraffin or kerosene, it actually prolongs the life of the heater as it runs a lot cleaner so doesn’t coke up as much, also don’t believe what people say about lack of pump lubrication too 👍

I hunted about online and the best I could do locally was at compass fuels penwortham. £1.50 per litre for red £1.29 per litre for kerosene Both prices are for collection of already made up 25L containers. @@CarJunkeez Ive just bought a standalone 5 kw unit for my 16ft by 8ft workshop but prices have increased in the past week on both ebay and amazon your looking at nearly £200 for a standalone unit and there arnt many kit sets available at 5kw they seem to be mostly 2kw now, however ours heating our front room mounted on the outside wall is a 2kw unit and its doing a brilliant job in a 16 ft by 11 ft living room.

Just tweaked the pump pulse settings on mine for old engine oil , 0.8hz min 4.0hz max runs 18.5:1 afr now no soot 👍🔥🔥🔥

Heres a tip. Run a duel tank /duel valve setup. Start it with your kerosene then switch a valve over to filtered waste oil tank retrieved from your autos.. free is good.

Bear in mind the cost of making good if your tank leaks or splits. A neighbour of mine just had a £100,000.00 + insurance job.
Because how your tank is installed, insurance won't pay out.

Got mine set up on red diesel,using around 250ml just over 1 HR,...I too recirculating the hot air coming through,mine sits in the inside of the home against the wall with the exhaust just going through the wall(all sealed with exhaust paste) yes I use a carbon monoxide detector as well,also sitting on a car battery with a trickle charger so if the power went down I would get around 5days off battery(I know this cause I have already tested the battery).......I loved that tank buddy.....what's the building regs for the tank with local authorities????
most oil companies will deliver two 205 litre drums of red diesel these days and comparing it to the cost of gas its a lot cheaper, or you can travel to them and buy 20 litre carboys direct after filling out a disclaimer for the tax man stating that you are using it to heat your home

What temperature will it heat your garage to on a cold day?
I have had it up to 71F while it was in the low 40s outside, that was runniing wide open. I kept it at 68 and it would cycle and maintain it nicely.

Nice setup but just wanted to point out, the air intake that comes from the bottom of the unit is supposed to be kept away from the exhaust, someone might correct me here but I think it’s the clean air intake for combustion & pulling exhaust fumes back threw the combustion intake will affect the units life span & performance, be best off pulling it back through the wall and leaving it inside under the unit👍

Done this in my shed, the only remark I have that if you have a grid failure or a power supply failure, you will burn up the ECU, I use a battery in parallel to prevent this.

Great job you did here, having a massive diesel tank is key. At the prices you mentioned it is a cozy and warm winter for less than having it heated on gas. In some respect you are basically on the Arctic, Survival is immenent. I would create a double (sealed room) door entrance so you can close one before opening the other. A thermostat to regulate the control of your diesel pump would be a nice ad-on. Is that even possible? Make sure you have a 12v battery ready (tricle charged) to run the heater if a power outage or some other disturbance is bothering you.

Mate, have the fuel pump at 45 degrees... not a straight in line... better fuel delivery (less fuel used) and the pump will last longer before burnout or air-locks.

Great set though just check you pump positioning as I’ve seen some stuff that it has to be positioned on an angle to get best performance on fuel economy etc but your set up may be different .

I do find that the pump allows more Kerosene to flow than it does Diesel on each stroke because the Kerosene is thinner, that’s why I changed the settings. Thanks 👍👍
I built a small wooden plywood box for our externally mounted pump then I drilled 4 holes in the top and bottom of the box 2 at each end of the pump then suspended the pump on thin bungee cord available at B&Q it has completely silenced the clicking noise the pump makes and you can still suspend the pump at 45 degrees.

You need to watch David McLuckie's videos on TH-cam about mounting the fuel pump vertical instead of horizontal, it makes a lot of sense. So much for the 10L tank. The ongoing question about recirculating the inside air...regular furnaces have been recirculating inside air for decades, why is this such an issue?
My pump is at 45 degrees at the mo but it’s hard to tell on the video but yes I agree it is best to mount them vertically, yea it makes sense to recycle the air as it gets reheated and it’s separate from the room that the heater is in so less chance of getting fumes. I used the 10 litre tank and didn't put in the supplied fuel nozzel at the bottom of the tank instead I installed the vehicle tank pipe included at the top of the tank a few mm above the bottom and used fuel proof epoxy adhesive to glue it in place after sanding all the surfaces to get a good bond. the tank is wall mounted and now needs to be in a UV protect6ive box to protect it from the sun. dont forget to drill the lid with a 1 mm hole to allow the tank to breathe you can glue a strip of rubber old cycle inner tube over the hole on three sides to keep the rain out of the tank.
This for real 2000 ltr tank , exhaust comes out under tank , full of kerosene, (down graded jet fuel)
All to run a cheap Chinese Air heater
Which you use 1 ltr to run 10 hrs .
Hi, The exhaust is nearly 3 feet away from the tank and there’s plenty of open air to vent as it’s on the metal frame, it’s not even as bad as a car if you think about it with exhaust right next to fuel tanks 👍 cheers
Crazy to think that tank could stretch out to 2000 days. And you only use the heater in the colder months, not year round. What is the shelf life of kero in a tank like this?
By the time u use last drop of fuel out that tank it will have gone off premium lol also i might add would be more practical to run it on a battery charged from your solar incase of power cuts, brilliant set up tho, ive had deisel heater in a van and have one doing nothing for 2 yrs stored i have cintemplated doing this in my home and finaly found a vid i like to take the plunge , rgds matey

It would have been nice to have a look around the bungalow, to see the space you're heating and whether or not you got the entire place warm from your one inlet point.
Yea sorry pal, it basically heats up my front room 1 bedroom and my bathroom, although it will heat the other bedroom and kitchen to but have to have the heater on high 👍 cheers

Your pump should be mounted on an angle as per instructions. It can't expell air bubbles that cause cavitation, stopping flow.

Cheers mate 😁 not sure on oil but if you’ve got a meter then shoot for around 15:1 and see what temps your getting and tweak from there, and make sure it doesn’t sound like it’s trying to stall the flame when on low setting as that’s the trickiest to get right 👍👍

It’s was trial and error mate, I had one of the simple controllers and board before and it was using far to much fuel so swapped for this controller so I could tweak settings, I’ve got an air to fuel meter for a car that I’m gonna fine tune it with too but it’s working well at the mo. Just one thing to bare in mind though is these heaters are all different so my settings may not be right for yours to 👍 cheers

Good set up but do not turn the power supply of wile its running as you will cook the hole unit and mite have a fire, let the unit go through its cool down cycle for safety.

Most sellers have nearly tripled the prices lately because of demand, they are probably the same but some have the more advanced controller so you can tweak them, but the seller doesn’t even know the difference between them anyway 😂
I also noticed that non of them come with your wall control box, but it can be bought separately for another £35 😕

A couple of things would be a fire valve from your tank, plus it has to be at least 2m from the property to comply with building regs. Then exhausting under the tank is a worst case scenario. Tidy up the electrics maybe and everything else seems good tbh. I think I might buy one now.

If your temperatures outside go below freezing then kerosene is your best bet however a gallon of kerosene has 112,000 BTUs gallon fuel oil or what you call heating oil has 144,000 BTUs so you’re much better off to use fuel oil one it’s cheaper than kerosene and to the heat output is greater than kerosene. The only advantage to burning kerosene is that it won’t gel and fuel oil will begin to jail in about 28°❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cheers 😃👍 Here in the U.K. we have standard or premium(has an additive) heating oil(kerosene) or red diesel and these Chinese heaters do burn hottest with the diesel but has high sulphur content and can coke up the inside of the heaters. I run the standard heating oil as it cheeper and has a clean burn so won’t really coke up the heater. 👍 cheers

I was a bit worried but I suppose it’s not like it’s petrol as that would definitely be worrying 😂 I was gonna put my solar inverter and batteries in that out house too but now I’m putting them in the kitchen as they’d only be a couple of inches away from the fuel tank 😂

@@CarJunkeez Oil tank regs state that they can't be installed close to anything combustible, it needs to be something like 1.5 metres away from such items, gutters, soffit boards etc included. Also, is that a double skinned tank? If not and it leaks, you could end up with a huge clean up bill especially if you have a well, river etc close by. Sorry, just be aware of potential problems from insurance companies etc if the worse were to happen. I've only recently learned all this myself due to moving to a property that's got oil fed system and needed a new tank fitted.

Your oil tank is not securely supported, it already looks distorted around that metal frame. A leak of 2000 litres of heating oil will not be a pleasant experience.
Hi, The only distortion in the tank is from when it was manufactured, you’d be surprised at how thick and strong this tank is and I’ve modified the metal frame to suit with 5mm thick angle welded under each rib 👍 but thanks for the heads up I’ll keep an eye on her 👍 cheers
@@CarJunkeez According to fuel storage regulations oil tanks over 1000 litres should either be internally bunded or surrounded by a concrete base and bund wall large enough to contain the max. capacity. In all cases they must be installed on a flat concrete pad larger than the base dimensions of the tank. I liked your video though, just be careful.

It doesnt use 8kw of electricity does it?
Hi, no it doesn’t take much electricity at all, it just draws around 18 amps for the glow plug for a couple of minutes and then not much to run. The 8kw (5kw really) is meant to be the measurement of heat output. 👍
The fan and fuel pump combo take 18-44 watts depending on the speed. The startup draws about 120 total watts because it uses a ceramic glow plug to heat the oil to the point of combustion. If the heater is powered up then adjusted to the lowest setting and allowed to just tick away and never turn off, you're looking at about 20 watts.

Yep totally fine on paraffin or kerosene, it actually prolongs the life of the heater as it runs a lot cleaner so doesn’t coke up as much, also don’t believe what people say about lack of pump lubrication too 👍
