Fantastic gents thanks allot for the video.im immerating to france next year and want to do this mod on a disco2.thank you for giving us this great addition to the td5 engine
Thanks mate 👍 hope you have a good time in France 🇫🇷 thanks for your support 🙏😁👍
I'm still trying to source them cheap at junkyards. Can't find them though. Ivecos are not plentiful in my bit. Would you say that 180 degree on the ring, 90 degree on the pin without shaving it would improve low rpm without the black smoke fail my Discovery on the MOT? Don't want to go back and forth on this. Prefer a safe setting that gives it a bit of oomph at the get go
Seeing that tiny brake line coming out of that huge tank gave me a chuckle. If it works, it works. Good effort!
I know yea it’s amazing how little flow these heaters need as it’s just drip by drip so no need for anything bigger than the smallest brake pipe 😜 even on full pelt 🥵😁 thanks mate 👍👍😁
Best tutorial on the subject after all these years. Still relevant.
Thanks mate 😃👍 yea still plenty of these pumps going strong after all those years 🔧 and not just on Land Rover’s. Cheers 🍻 👍
I'm a little concerned about the use of a cooker switch on a high current DC circuit. I fear a sustained arc may occur if you open the switch on a bright sunny day.
Yea it’s never used to be honest and just for in emergency in the barn and now I’ve upgraded the system too and also put 2 DC breakers on the panels 👍 AC switches and high DC currents are a good combination for burnt out contacts 😂 cheers 👍👍
Are these types of ecu as programmable as the later ones or would it to be best to swap out it out for the newer one and program that? Cheers in advance 👍🏻
They can’t be re-mapped via the OBD port like the NNN but you can get rewritable chips and once you’ve fitted the socket you can pop the chip out and rewrite as many times as you want. It actually only takes me about 20 minutes to fully chip a MSB ECU anyway 👍 cheers
@ I’ll be contact with you soon pal, thanks for your response!!
Isnt nuclear better, life behind plant and cheap energy
I’d love to be able too have a small scale nuclear plant ☢️ free electricity and hot water for ever and no need for weed killer ha ha
Hey mate great video as always. Got some work to do on my td5 ! Got some oil getting in the coolant i think it's coming from the oil cooler. Coming close to 300'000km and still on the original water pump could you recommend me which make of pump should I go for ? Thanks mate, cheers from Switzerland
Thanks mate 🙏 appreciated 👍 yea the oil coolers can rupture but could also be the head gasket but I’d do the cooler first 👍 this water pump is OEM and are a good pump PEM500040G 😃 to be honest if it’s had good coolant in it may be ok, I’ve used tap water in this and that’s why it’s so bad, but I’ve just took a pump off another high mileage engine I’m doing and it was perfect 👍 cheers mate
Gday mate great video how many kilometres on that engine and are they reliable and long lasting could you expect to get over 300,000 kilometres if it’s been well serviced ? cheers
Hi mate, thanks 🙏 😃 it’s only done about 100k but I’ve give it a hard life and not serviced it in a very long time 😂 but I’ve known people who have 400k on them and just serviced them with no problems, they’re amazing engines as long as you take care of them so should easily get over 300k 👍 cheers
Super detailed as always.... Wish this video was around a few months ago.... I could have done a bit of better job of the install of my new AMC head 🤔
Thanks mate 😁 I’m sure you’ve done a fine job fitting your AMC head mate 🔧👍 thanks again for your support mate 😁👍 cheers
Well in Shane …. Much love brother 👍
Nice one Matt 😁👍👍 much love bro 👍 take it easy 👍👍
Another crackin' video, mate.Always makes me day when I get a notification that you have a new vid posted. I really enjoy all your content, but especially your TD5 stuff. It's always really informative, and you make it look so easy, mate.Best hours telly I've watched in a while, much appreciated 👏👏👍
Thanks mate, it means a lot to me too hear that pal 😃 I enjoy doing them and good to know they’re enjoyed too 👍 I really like working on TD5 more than anything and find them easier than most other stuff. Thanks for your support mate 😃👍👍 cheers 👍
Super job Shane , I have very limited knowledge of engines but it’s great viewing I just pretend I know what you’re doing 😇 those 15p cams are cheap ! did I really say that !! ( anybody reading that was a joke ) 😂 that’s a cool landy ready for a good few years action again 👍
Thanks mate 😁👍 I just pretend I know what I’m doing too 🤣 😜 and yea them 15p cams are cheap but not as cheap as the 10p ones 😂 mate we all do better in life with a sense of humour 😁👍 thanks again for your support pal 👍👍 cheers
use rubber grease on rubber parts as far as i am aware normal grease nacks the rubber up and oil on the o ring of your oil filter
Sorry I should of mentioned they’re synthetic and not old school rubber as yes you are correct petroleum based grease would indeed perish natural rubber O rings 👍 thanks for the heads up mate 😁 cheers
@CarJunkeez no probs I was thinking wtf I have a td5 been sitting for years on the refurb list so was just watching you for some tips as I e never worked on one only 300 TDI but I pulled my 300 out and put an m57 in unreal would never go back to a 300 ever will most prob replace the td5 in my other one and my 300 auto half built county that prob get m57 in it too it's night and day with the way it drive and power is unreal
@@graham-martin5847 yea M57 is a good conversion and good engine even in standard form. 300 are just gutless standard and not to much scope modified. I just really like the TD5 engine as they’re really simple and easy to work on, and can give not to bad power tuned, just difficult to match that lowdown torque from the M57 👍 cheers
@CarJunkeez mines got loads of torque to be honest I've got disco transfer box on it with auto box mapped to 300 on 33 inch wheels I love it can't stop driving it and fuel economy is amazing too
@@graham-martin5847 some good power that mate, sounds like a good setup 🔧👍👍
Love the indepth commentry, really enjoy all your video's😎
Thanks mate 🙏😁 really appreciate the kind feedback and thanks for watching 🔧😁👍👍👍
@@CarJunkeez At least you know why your head gasket went, as a breakdown mechanic I went to dozens of jobs which I diagnosed as head gasket, to be told I have just had that done. If you dont know why it failed, it will fail again!
@@kevinmartin9432 very true mate, if the person who’s replaced the head gasket can’t 100% be sure where the head gasket was leaking then could be another failure point in the engine 😂 so I was kind of glad I could see good evidence 🔧😃👍 cheers mate 👍👍
Great vlog as alway, keeps me learning about mine hope I don’t have to dig that deep, but if I do I know where to refer back to good stuff cheers again 🍻 Wiganer in Cornwall 😂👍
Thanks my fellow Wiganer 😁👍 think I just left it a bit too long without any TLC mate so hopefully yours will be fine. Cheers mate, take it easy 👍👍
Them head bolts do take a fair bit cranking up ill give your Idea of leaving them overnight if i ever have to do them again ,think had a bit too much oil on the washers the last 5 degrees they actually sprung back on a couple of them
Yea they’re scary aren’t they on the last couple of stages 😂 I do get that spring back too especially the last 45* but do find the lithium grease on the threads help a little. I know it sounds crazy but it’s freezing here now and last time I did one was summer and can’t remember it being as bad so temperature could be a thing too. I do rate the Victor Reinz bolts though 👍 cheers mate 👍
Absolutely brilliant thanks brother. What oil have you been running engine was clean. My opinion on the vw spec oil...I dint know reason is a lot of HD diesel engines use those type op injectors and fuel system and the are fine on a heavy diesel engine oil. I think we are better of with a heavy diesel oil over a petrol oil. Only my 2c. My td5 on 300000 kilometers no cam issues on shell rimula 15w40 heavy diesel oil
Thanks brother and thanks for watching 👍 yea I think your right as I’m pretty sure I used Shell Helix and that’s light being 5w30 but as it’s been using oil due to the head gasket I’ve been topping it up with different oils and left it far to long between servicing 😂 Yea I know the Scania and Volvo use similar injectors in the HD diesels too mate so probably better with a heavier oil cheers 👍 the VW spec thing is because of the P.D. Injectors they use too as they’re similar. Thanks mate 🔧😃👍
couple of things, would you provide more information about the circuit diagram, i'm very interested in the contactor , would you provide a reference link for one and what type/size of fuse do you have on the negative leg going into the inverter. Thanks, keep up the great work
Hi, Thanks mate 😃👍 unfortunately the contactor I purchased is no longer available, but this is virtually the same www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285963515904 I don’t have a circuit diagram as I just wired it directly out of my head, but if you watch both my installs you can see how I’ve wired it. Basically the contactor is energised from my inverter output and when the output of my inverter drops then the contactor acts like a 2 rocker switch for both live and neutral to go to the grid and when energised again goes back over to the inverter, that’s why you need a contactor that’s 4 pole with 2 normally open and 2 normally closed. I don’t use any fuse on the negative. Thanks 😃👍👍
Aren’t the 10p Delphi and 15p Delphi strokes both the same so why would using a 10p injector in the 15p head and give more fuel delivery?
It’s only the nozzle that’s making more fuel delivery if putting a 10p injector in replacement for a 15p injector in the 15p head and cam. Even though the 10p injectors only have 5 holes and 15p have 6 hole the diameter of the 10p are bigger, I know if you add all the diameter of all holes together you would expect the 15p injector to deliver more fuel because the sum of all hole diameters added are greater than the 10p as there’s only 5 holes on a 10p, but if you work out the area of the hole using π then add them together you will see the 10p is actually more overall area even with one less hole, this is the reason you get more fuel from the 10p injector with same settings on a 15p setup, also the 15p cam compresses the injector 1mm more than the 10p cam 👍 cheers
@@CarJunkeezthanks for that information
The colour looks right in the daylight
Cheers pal 👍 yea it’s a nice yellow, wouldn’t mind it on a car to be honest 👍
Top job lad
Nice one mate 😁 cheers 👍👍
So the best combo is 15P head, cam and rocker arm and 10P injectors for maximum power on the Td5?
Yes, and you can use 10p head or 15p head but it’s best to match the head to the pistons as original 15p pistons have the combustion chamber slightly offset due too the different angle of the injector in the head, whereas the 10p are central. You can use either rockershaft setup but the 15p rockers are slightly lighter and appear to be stronger due too there design. But yes use a 15p cam for the extra 1mm lift and 10p injectors with lash set correctly, that way you get more fuel delivery, but as in my videos there’s 2 different types of 10p injectors and one will deliver more fuel than the other 👍 cheers
@@CarJunkeezit’s the Delphi version we need correct
@@TheMachine4ever1 either of the 10p injectors will deliver more than the 15p but the BEBE2A000010 that has L071PBC nozzle will deliver slightly more than the BEBE2A00101 that has the L023PBC nozzle. I think the Lucas and Delphi branding is maybe different on some injectors due to the date they were manufactured as it’s the same company. 👍 cheers
@@CarJunkeezok thanks but what about the atomisation of the fuel with the 10p? Wouldn’t it be less than the higher pressure 6 hole 15p injector?
@@TheMachine4ever1yea your correct you do get better atomisation with the 15p nozzles hence better emissions and that’s why Land Rover did it too keep with EU3 requirements, but you can get more power from the 10p nozzles and mapping due to them being able to flow more fuel. 👍 cheers
Looks dry as bone onboard geny aye aw bells whistles
Yea it’s not to bad inside, just the back where shower is and a skylight but otherwise all good, and yea geny and all bells n whistles too mate ha ha they cram a lot in these things don’t they 👍 cheers
